Because most visitors to our site are English speakers (to one degree or another), we’ve used English translations for the name of the band whose song we’re premiering today, and the song name as well. But the band themselves are steadfast in their use of the Russian language, both in displaying their name and in the rendering of the title of their debut album and all the song names.
And so we present the song “Суицидальное жертвоприношение” (“Suicidal Sacrifice”) from the album Избыточная Смертность (“Excessive Mortality”) by the band Летальный Исход (Lethal Outcome).
In their music, this group from the Urals have devoted their talents to old-school death-thrash, but with other ingredients in the mix, drawing their inspirations from the early works of Protector, Sepultura, Sodom, Obituary, Deicide, Mayhem, and Asphyx. The song we’re presenting today also proves the dynamism of the band’s songcraft.
In a compact three minutes and change, this new song stomps and races, jolts and convulses. In its most frenzied contortions the drums blast and the heavy, down-tuned riffing becomes a vicious whirring blizzard of sound. When it stalks like a black menace the band still keep the energy level high, erupting in tumultuous double-kicks and ejecting a supernatural reverberating solo that wails and soars.
But despite the track’s compact length, the band continually switch things up, bolting into rhythmic gallops and chord progressions that channel an almost gleeful sense of the sinister, and bringing into play another melodic solo that’s still eerie but also feels forlorn, which serves as a prelude to one last wild and savage musical race and a final bout of hammer blows to the listener’s neck.
Through it all, vocalist V.V. sounds like an attacking panther, using her voice to create an added element of howling hostility and teeth-bared savagery.

Derzeit gibt es eher wenig positive Assoziationen mit Russland. Der Krieg in der Ukraine und Putins Regierung machen es schwierig, nicht flächendeckend negativ zu urteilen. Doch selbstverständlich gibt es in einem Land mit 145 Millionen Einwohnern nicht nur machthungrige Politiker:innen, sondern viel mehr Menschen, die nur ihr Leben leben möchten. So zum Beispiel die Musiker:innen von Летальный Исход.
Bei dieser faszinierenden Band, deren Name auf Englisch in etwa «Lethal Outcome» bedeutet, handelt es sich um eine Old School Thrash/Death Metal-Gruppe aus der Ural-Region, unweit von Chelyabinsk. Mit ihrem Debüt-Album «Избыточная Смертность» (in etwa «Excessive Mortality») beweisen sie nicht nur, dass es auch in dieser Ecke der Welt spannende Musik gibt, mit einer so talentierten wie anonymen Sängerin reissen sie auch gleich mehrere Stereotypen ein. Bereits im Opener «Похороны бога» liefert sie in bester Angela-Gossow-Manier eine angsteinflössende Performance ab, bei der es einem kalt den Rücken herunterläuft.
Musikalisch bewegen sich Летальный Исход auf der Schiene der besten Thrash und Death Bands, Einflüsse von Obituary, Deicide, Sepultura und Sodom sind spürbar. Mit rasenden Beats, vernichtenden Riffs und ordentlich viel Abwechslulng beansprucht die Band die Nackenmuskeln. «Самоистязание» wartet mit einem fantastischen Gitarrensolo auf, das vernichtende «Огонь» beginnt schleppend und heavy, bevor bösartige Gangshouts und rasante Blastbeats alles niederreissen und «К Дьяволу… (Приди!)” wirkt wie eine bösartige, epische Hommage an Metallicas «Battery».
Летальный Исход können problemlos mit ihren weitaus bekannteren Genre-Kumpanen aus dem Westen mithalten. Auch der Sound der Platte überzeugt, sämtliche Instrumente kommen glasklar durch und nichts klingt überproduziert, sondern nach einer detailverliebten DIY-Produktion.
Dass es in der momentanen Zeit eine solch faszinierende und überzeugende Band aus Russland zu entdecken gäbe, hätte ich nicht erwartet. Летальный Исход machen enorm Spass, die starken Songs, das abwechslungsreiche Songwriting und das immense Talent aller Beteiligten macht «Избыточная Смертность» zu einem mehr als ernstzunehmenden Extreme Metal Album. Hoffen wir, dass irgendwann auch eine Europa-Tour möglich sein kann.

The old school will never truly die, I’m convinced of it. For better or for worse, depending on your viewpoint, that’s a thing that I think many others would agree upon simply due to how strongly the sound is being kept by modern bands that don’t just show love for it but in the perpetuation of the sound itself. It’s a movement that has been going on since the dawn of the digital age and likely before, but there is still a clear echelon at the top of those who manage to rise above and deliver material that is by and large far better than much of what’s released around it. Such releases can come from anywhere in the world from any band at any given time from even the most unlikely of places. With their debut album, Lethal Outcome did not need to prove themselves when just laying the foundation of their sound, but it’s in every way that they make it clear that they’re a name not to be forgotten easily nor taken lightly!
It’s always easy to say that you dabble with the old school as a student of what it has always had to offer and teach for those competent enough to put power and meaning into those lessons, but it’s another thing altogether to really seize the opportunity and make something that can be likened to bands like Bolt Thrower should it be done well. I had no idea what Lethal Outcome would deliver for their debut album, but it was damn near instantly that it was obvious to me that this is a new band on the block whose power is all-engrossing and fabulously captivating! Straightforward death metal but never once lacking in any terms when it comes to personality or magnetism that really keeps the listener gripped from track to track, “Excessive Mortality” sets the record very clear for what Lethal Outcome is capable of with the bar immediately set staggeringly high with this being just the band’s debut effort. And it’s every aspect that comes together to really make the eight tracks of “Excessive Mortality” a sight to behold from its incredible production to captivating energy to the vocalist already having tremendous competency that she should be extremely proud of; it all almost works too well! A true creation of the dense underground that is a real reward for those who discover what the offering has in store, there’s no way to deny the simple truth at play here: Lethal Outcome has delivered grandeur on an immense scale with every piece of it coalescing to become what has to be a must-stop location for death metal fans in 2022.
Debuts like this are what crazes start out as. Everything fell perfectly into place in order for this creation to become as massive and bold as it is in even its smallest moments as Lethal Outcome constantly defies expectations for an overall performance that can’t be seen as anything short of bewildering. “Excessive Mortality” is just the beginning for what this band is able to bring to the table, and I can only hope that it is the first hearty course of many to come.

Russian band Летальный Исход released the album "Избыточная Смертность" in the late fall of 2022, and thrash metal is the style explored on this production. It is a tight and vibrant variety of thrash metal we get on this album, where the distorted vocals and the guitars have been produced with a muted effect that gives a tight and smooth yet hard and vibrant soundscape that strikes me as rather broadly appealing, as well as functioning as an excellent foundation for the numerous and captivating melody oriented guitar solo runs presented on this album. In terms of more specific style and orientation I'd describe this album as a whole as a blend of the accessible and vibrant elements of early days Possessed with the more elaborate and art-oriented escapades of 80's Celtic Frost with a dash of Bay Area thrash metal from the same era. As these associations indicates we get lapses into both extreme metal and doom metal, and we get some songs with orchestral-oriented flavoring too. An album to seek out if a tight, expressive and dynamic variety of art-oriented thrash metal with extreme metal and doom metal lapses sounds like an interesting proposition.

Дэт-металл в России появился в начале девяностых. Прошло 30 с лишним лет, но группы, играющие дэт в его первозданном виде, продолжают создаваться, вопреки популярности других, более адаптированных для массового слушателя жанровых модификаций...
К числу таких групп можно смело отнести команду с оптимистичным названием Летальный Исход. Этот коллектив родом из далёкой, суровой, обросшей стереотипами Челябинской области, а точнее - из Златоуста. В который раз убеждаюсь, что тяжёлая музыка помогает повысить уровень знаний по географии. Раньше я и не слышала о таком городе - а он есть.
Пожалуй, музыка, которую делают участники группы. действительно соответствует их уральскому происхождению. Это поистине тяжёлый, мрачный и такой что ни на есть "настоящий" трешодэт. К слову, с жанром у меня поначалу вышло некоторое недопонимание. Между делом глянув концертное видео группы, я почему-то для себя решила, что имею дело с блэком. Ну, а чем, собственно, не блэк? Лого, названия треков, атмосфера, упоминание Дьявола... Во многом угадывается лёгкий флёр блэка, хотя едва ли на этом альбоме есть что-нибудь лёгкое.
"Блэковость" прослеживается также и в манере пения вокалистки. Да, это группа с женским вокалом, на что невозможно не обратить внимание. Конечно, для блэка её голос слишком разборчивый. Вместе с тем, он донельзя сухой и жёсткий. Фронтвумен будто хлещет наши уши, не жалея и собственных связок. Стоит услышать её ор в начале песни "Похороны бога", и прямо-таки влюбляешься в этот голос.
Итак, альбом "Избыточная смертность". Дебютный у группы, он претерпел три издания. Цифровая версия от Satanath Records, диджипак от Metal Race, а третье... А вот о третьем вам расскажет Фёдор, и это был маленький спойлер, что ждать нового видео осталось недолго.
А мы остановимся на диджипаке. Оформление ну просто на высшем уровне. Возможно, именно благодаря этому диску у меня будет новая тату :) Как вы можете видеть на фото - чёрно-белый буклетик с текстами и фото симпатичных музыкантов. Они правда показались мне добродушной командой, хотя и играют такую тяжёлую музыку.
Альбом довольно лаконичный - 8 композиций, без всякого проходняка, если не считать интро и аутро, которые здесь совершенно неприметные. Как по мне, обрамляющие аудиозаписи вообще мало где действительно нужны. Так что фактически релиз открывается первой "полноценной" песней под названием "Похороны бога". Предположу, что для музыкантов эта песня "любимица", раз её поставили на первый план и снабдили одним из самых интересных текстов на альбоме. Однако мне показалось, что припев здесь слишком прост, да и вообще, на диске есть несколько более любопытных опусов.
Например, следующая песня "Самоистязание", в которой, как минимум, очень необычное вступление. Оно ускоряется, набирая обороты динамичности. Далее следует ещё один довольно сильный трек "Огонь". Звукоподражательное начало с "музыкой огня" резко сменяется искромётным риффом. Текст здесь тоже очень эффектный: поэтичные метафоры уживаются в нём с пугающим натурализмом.
"Суицидальное жертвоприношение". Наверное, если на альбоме действительно есть блэк, и это вовсе не моя слуховая галлюцинация, то больше всего "черноты" именно в этой песне. Ни в музыке, ни в тексте, а именно в атмосфере.
А вот "К Дьяволу... (Приди!)" оставила немного другое впечатление. Хотя альбом и в целом довольно драйвовый, этот трек будто бы создан в первую очередь для слэма. Он разбитной и немного даже шуточный, как мне показалось. Один текст чего стоит, персонаж которого именует себя "вавилонской шлюхой". Ну, уж куда без трека о плотских радостях на альбоме с сатанинской тематикой.
"Коса Сатурна" - тяжёлый эпик, притаившийся в конце релиза. Давящие, грузные риффы венчаются с бескомпромиссным рёвом вокалистки. Она будто переживает то, о чём поёт. А ведь текст актуален. "Распорото танками брюхо Земли"...
Для кого этот альбом? Ну, фэнам олдскульного экстрима нужно слушать обязательно. Всем остальным тоже советую послушать. Потому что это действительно крутой альбом. Летальный Исход - это возврат к традициям дэт-металла, и я думаю, что будущее у этой группы хорошее. Интересно было приобщиться к уральскому андеграунду.
