Because most visitors to our site are English speakers (to one degree or another), we’ve used English translations for the name of the band whose song we’re premiering today, and the song name as well. But the band themselves are steadfast in their use of the Russian language, both in displaying their name and in the rendering of the title of their debut album and all the song names.
And so we present the song “Суицидальное жертвоприношение” (“Suicidal Sacrifice”) from the album Избыточная Смертность (“Excessive Mortality”) by the band Летальный Исход (Lethal Outcome).
In their music, this group from the Urals have devoted their talents to old-school death-thrash, but with other ingredients in the mix, drawing their inspirations from the early works of Protector, Sepultura, Sodom, Obituary, Deicide, Mayhem, and Asphyx. The song we’re presenting today also proves the dynamism of the band’s songcraft.
In a compact three minutes and change, this new song stomps and races, jolts and convulses. In its most frenzied contortions the drums blast and the heavy, down-tuned riffing becomes a vicious whirring blizzard of sound. When it stalks like a black menace the band still keep the energy level high, erupting in tumultuous double-kicks and ejecting a supernatural reverberating solo that wails and soars.
But despite the track’s compact length, the band continually switch things up, bolting into rhythmic gallops and chord progressions that channel an almost gleeful sense of the sinister, and bringing into play another melodic solo that’s still eerie but also feels forlorn, which serves as a prelude to one last wild and savage musical race and a final bout of hammer blows to the listener’s neck.
Through it all, vocalist V.V. sounds like an attacking panther, using her voice to create an added element of howling hostility and teeth-bared savagery.

Derzeit gibt es eher wenig positive Assoziationen mit Russland. Der Krieg in der Ukraine und Putins Regierung machen es schwierig, nicht flächendeckend negativ zu urteilen. Doch selbstverständlich gibt es in einem Land mit 145 Millionen Einwohnern nicht nur machthungrige Politiker:innen, sondern viel mehr Menschen, die nur ihr Leben leben möchten. So zum Beispiel die Musiker:innen von Летальный Исход.
Bei dieser faszinierenden Band, deren Name auf Englisch in etwa «Lethal Outcome» bedeutet, handelt es sich um eine Old School Thrash/Death Metal-Gruppe aus der Ural-Region, unweit von Chelyabinsk. Mit ihrem Debüt-Album «Избыточная Смертность» (in etwa «Excessive Mortality») beweisen sie nicht nur, dass es auch in dieser Ecke der Welt spannende Musik gibt, mit einer so talentierten wie anonymen Sängerin reissen sie auch gleich mehrere Stereotypen ein. Bereits im Opener «Похороны бога» liefert sie in bester Angela-Gossow-Manier eine angsteinflössende Performance ab, bei der es einem kalt den Rücken herunterläuft.
Musikalisch bewegen sich Летальный Исход auf der Schiene der besten Thrash und Death Bands, Einflüsse von Obituary, Deicide, Sepultura und Sodom sind spürbar. Mit rasenden Beats, vernichtenden Riffs und ordentlich viel Abwechslulng beansprucht die Band die Nackenmuskeln. «Самоистязание» wartet mit einem fantastischen Gitarrensolo auf, das vernichtende «Огонь» beginnt schleppend und heavy, bevor bösartige Gangshouts und rasante Blastbeats alles niederreissen und «К Дьяволу… (Приди!)” wirkt wie eine bösartige, epische Hommage an Metallicas «Battery».
Летальный Исход können problemlos mit ihren weitaus bekannteren Genre-Kumpanen aus dem Westen mithalten. Auch der Sound der Platte überzeugt, sämtliche Instrumente kommen glasklar durch und nichts klingt überproduziert, sondern nach einer detailverliebten DIY-Produktion.
Dass es in der momentanen Zeit eine solch faszinierende und überzeugende Band aus Russland zu entdecken gäbe, hätte ich nicht erwartet. Летальный Исход machen enorm Spass, die starken Songs, das abwechslungsreiche Songwriting und das immense Talent aller Beteiligten macht «Избыточная Смертность» zu einem mehr als ernstzunehmenden Extreme Metal Album. Hoffen wir, dass irgendwann auch eine Europa-Tour möglich sein kann.
