June 26th is the date set by Symbol of Domination (Belarus) and Ira Militias Productions (France) for the release of the debut album by the French black/death band Cult of the Horns. Entitled Chapter I – Domination, it’s a 10-track, 41-minute manifesto of hatred for mankind, and today we have the premiere of the album’s first track following the introductory piece “March of the Tyrants”. The song we bring you is “Mass Destruction Supremacy“.

Chapter I – Domination is the work of Cult of the Horns‘ Bordeaux-based sole creator Mephisto, and it follows an initial 2014 demo named Hatred & Desecration and a 2015 split with the band Goatvermin.

While “Mass Destruction Supremacy“, as its name suggests, is a cyclonic scavenger driven by threshing riffs and a deep and dire bass and drum engine, with the lyrics expressed through heartless, malignant roars and scalding cries, there’s more to the song than chilling barbarity.

The riffs pulse with infectious vibrancy; there’s a piercing, serpentine solo that might take you by surprise; the whirlwind of savagery is segmented by jolting grooves; a dark, melancholy melody rises up like a graveyard ghost; and the song rocks as well as ravages. In other words, while the track may be a celebration of mass destruction, it’s also a dynamic and multifaceted piece of music.

French Cult Of The Horns was started by N. and only remaining original member Mephisto in 2013. The two seem to be the protagonists behind Ira Militias who Satanath's sub-label S.o.D. co-releases this debut with.

The one-man cult plays death/black with a rather primitive, occult and raw touch. Mephisto has left the drum duties to Naja-Atra, who hammer in several lesser-known black metal constellations, as well as in a brutal deathrash band. The man can nail robe-clad fanatics to their cross where and whenever necessary, and Mephisto twist and distort both strings and throat.

It took a few spins for the album to grow before it eventually sticks.

The album begins with an excerpt from John F. Kennedy's speech “The President and the Press” (1961) set to an evocative orchestral “film score” with overtones of militant brass. The President's bodeful warning words about conspiracy and imminent danger set a disturbing tone when taken a bit out of context. But this suits Chapter I - Domination well, for the Cult Of The Horns found their works on sowing fear, distrust and resentment. I suspect that the horned cult feed on the same negative energies that they sow, just as you can feed on self-grown vegetables, or pretty much just like how those pulling the strings, the anonymous men in shadow governments, exploit the very fear they themselves create to justify their own secrecy. But that's just a conspiracy theory on my part.

Through songs with titled such as Mass Destruction Supremacy, World Conspiracy and Domination comes crushing, brutal and negatively charged aggression. A display of hate and anger with violently angered rifling, vocal and rhythms with roots in Morbid Angel, a dash of Marduk and a hint of deranged thrash. Subsequently the band arouse, stir and call for rebellion and rioting through Revolts (The Final Uprising), which ends with samples of a noisy crowd in the background. The band's slaying drift, and the amount of details in combination with dozens of killer and memorable riffs distinguishes this rather unknown Frenchman from many of those who with varying success try to do the same.

Betrayal and Divide & Conquer both takes some time to build up an eerie mood before more chaos and violence once again hit the listener in the jugulars in violent waves. The latter song with samples taken from the documentary Zeitgeist, with a monologue of Jordan Maxwell, not particularly well-known and rather controversial philosopher and author who questions the origin of religions and is almost unhealthily obsessed with the idea of, among other things, secret societies and suspicious brotherhood alliances. This again helps to pour gasoline on the fire what fear and suspicion concerns.

With Worship of the Idol and Eradication, there is a lot of cataclysmic full-throttle downpour, which unfortunately affect the alarming atmosphere that parts of the album provide with negative consequences. Outro - A New Order... seek to make amends with the "I'm mad as hell" monologue from the movie Network (1976).

Chapter I - Domination is an album that almost succeeds in spreading panic by imprinting theories of plots and conspiracies in the listeners' minds, but that due to its manic raging rants, allows the listener to pull out of the hypnotic manipulation. This does not prevent the music from being among the better that black-coloured death metal has to offer, though. The music might not be completely outstanding, but I'd say it's far above average. Thus I feel that the highest rating best reflects its quality. Cult Of The Horns is a name for fans of old school extreme metal, delivered with vitality and conviction, to watch out for.

French black/death. Full bodied production, thick, meaty guitar tone – feels more Belphegor or Behemoth than any French BM or black/death act I could name.

Production’s excellent (if very ProTools and in your face, modern metal style), vocals are totally death metal rather than black metal, drumming is busy, fast and crisp (lots of double bass, tom rolls and cymbal work between all that blastbeat bullshit) and there are actually classic death metal-style guitar solos to boot.

If they didn’t have that moniker and show up in corpsepaint, you could have just taken Cult of the Horns as a more satanically inclined death metal band ala Deicide or Morbid Angel (in that sense only, not in any way related to respective playing styles)…so I was surprised to really find myself enjoying this one.

Yeah, it’s more suprise factor than anything else (you walk in expecting yet another FPoDB job, and get Blood Magick Necromance redux, you’re stunned and quite appreciative thereof!), but I was well chuffed with this one.

Metalliautistin soittolista on tänä kesänä ollu melkoisen turbulenssin kourissa. Sacre bleu!

Cult of the Horns on yhden miehen projekti Ranskan Bordeauxista, jonka ensimmäinen kokopitkä on tässä käsillä.

Tämäkin albumi on pitänyt aloittaa tunnelmointipalalla, joiden tarpeellisuusdesta olen oman näkemykseni ilmaissut jo useampaan kertaan. Näin ko fiilistely on helppo skipata. Asiaan kuitenkin päästään välittömästi kakkosraidan Mass Destruction Supremacy, eikä tämän jälkeen pahemmin fiilistellä, vaan runnotaan menemään kuin viimeistä päivää albumin loppuun asti, pl loppuun ujutettu pakollinen synkistely outro. Vaikka yhtye on yhden miehen projekti, on albumilla mukana sessiomiehiä rumpujen takana ja basson varressa. Näistä varsinkin rumpali osoittautuu tekijämieheksi. Tämä on erittäin positiivinen ilmiö verrattuna niihin yhden miehen projekteihin, joissa rumpalin virkaa hoitaa sätkättävä sekvensseri. Toinen positiivinen vaikutus kohdistuu rumpusoundiin, joka lähes poikkeuksetta on kyseenalainen koneella toteutettuna.

Soundeista puheenollen, Chapter 1 kuulostaa kaikinpuolin todella onnistuneelta, eikä nokan koputtamista juurikaan löydy. Ainoa huomionarvoinen mutinan aihe on miksiin hautautunut basso.

Itse soitto on erittäin tiukkaa, eikä jätä toivomisen varaa missään kohtaa.

Cult  Of  The  Horns  are  a  solo  project  from  France  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  bestial  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2017 album  "Chapter  I.  Dominion"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Domination  and  Ira  Militias  Productions.

Military  style  drum beats  along  with  some  synths  start  off  the  album and  they  also  bring  in  a  very  epic  sounding  atmosphere  along  with  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  direction  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.

Clean  playing  can  be  heard  briefly  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  bestial  death  metal  growls  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very dark  and  melodic  fashion  and  black  metal  screams  are  also  used  at  times and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  synths  and  spoken  word  parts  also  make  a  brief  return  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.

Cult  Of  The  Horns  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  bestial  style  of  black,  death  and  war  metal  from  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  war, domination,  violence  and  nuclear  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Cult  OF  The  Horns  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  bestial  black/death  and  war  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.

Cult Of The Horns

Released digitally on September 13th 2016, "Chapter I - Domination" is the debut full length album from Cult Of The Horns. Being a one man band from France, so far managed to form a strong fanbase through " Hatred & Desecration" demo and Cult Of The Horns / Goatvermin split both released respectively in 2014.

With a total playtime of 41:25, this album contains 10 bestial tracks including two instrumentals that will make you fall into the abyss in no time.Musically it has this strong feeling of death metal embedded well with black metal in a brutal and sadistic approach. Mephisto really know his stuff well with an excellent musicianship despite being labelled as another bedroom black/death metal release due to its nature being a one man show but that doesn't make Cult Of The Horns part of the trend at all. The guitar works are just dark and melodic in its own way slaughtering its way through the entire album. The vocals are just pure and feels right for this kind of music but more to death metal with occasional black metal style. With some clean parts accompanying the slow and mid-paced arrangement, Mephisto delivered his messages well through Cult Of The Horns without looking back. The drum works are great too but the tone are too predictable (not a big surprise though) but really fits in the brutality of this album and it feels like it's almost time for an apocalypse.

With the concept that deals with violence, war and domination, Culf Of The Horns should have no problem dominating the scene, as it is. Enough said and make way for The Cult Of The Horns and it's apocalyptic music to destroy and violate the dying world and the entire human race.

The debut album by Cult of the Horns is a pretty ferocious affair of Blackened Death metal that pounds the listener from the get-go. The compositional quality is above standard, and supported with a good production that gives more power to the performance. All the instruments are audible and well performed, with the drums and bass prominently embedded in the mix. There is quite an emphasis on atmosphere, which is where the black metal elements seep in. The album definitely gets better with each listen, as it contains enough depth to make you go back for more. People into bands like Adorior, Lvcifyre, and Impiety, will dig this.

Who would have thought that with a namesake such as Cult Of The Horns, it would be if at all things, a solo project in the ways of music. But since this is a death metal act mixed well with black metal elements, solo project makes sense at least for one man personal Mephisto. He's the man behind all of the instruments as well as the vocals, over the array of releases spanning across the Cult Of The Horns catalog. Which would bring us to the latest working's that comes by the name of "Chapter 1 - Domination". This album of craft and very cunning work, is a mash of the mentioned genres, of death metal meets black metal elementals, with very much intensity in full force. This never being a drawback or downside at any costs, but more of a free will approach. It's like you get this intensity that is so vivid, gripping and filled with aggression, there is no end. That is what this album does, to you the listener, it is furry in a bottle, awaiting to be exploded with a little twist of the bottle cap.

CULT OF THE HORNS is another French death metal band. It seems that this week is full of cool French metal. And being somewhat of a Francophile I don’t mind. This has all the makings of being more of a blast than AKSAYA was. Or at least that is what I hope it will be. To my ears the first few notes made me think of Polish death metal like Decapitated, Hate or even latter day Behemoth. There are even traces of black metal in this. Throw in some east coast US death metal and you get a pretty good idea of what it is that I hear on this album. Cool stuff indeed.

Gut wrenching blackened Death metal from France. If you are a fan of early-to-mid era Belphegor you are SO going to enjoy this album. I know I did!

Fort recommandable !

Итак, сегодня мне в руки попал первый полноформатный альбом французского проекта Cult Of The Horns, изданный в текущем году на Symbol Of Domination.

Dies beweisen Cult Of The Horns mir allemal.

Fuck! Cult Of The Horns is a bestial death metal band from France and this is 2017 debut album from them. They released it few years after a demo - Hatred And Desecration and split album with Goatvermin from 2015. The band is lead by Mephisto and N. but they are supported on their gigs by live musicians so it is not just studio project.

This album is a humiliating, merciless and full of hatred war death black metal album that will sentence you to death without judging your guilt or innocence. They are absolutely mad on drums and perform hideous growls on vocals while tempo of most songs takes no prisoners. The band delivers certainty of death and black metal sound that lead to total music destruction. They also mix the music with a depth of black metal guitars so the production has a blackened death metal touch to it. Possibly fans of Deicide, Blasphemy, Azarath, Hate or Bestial Deform will spot few influences from these bands in music of Cult Of The Horns but these French band is effortlessly as good as most of them. Especially, when come to face brutality and barbarity of the songs, music goes to the level when humanity meets its inevitable extinction. They not always play with speed of light; often just heavier and have middle paced death metal moments to take a breath. It does not always sound flawless and this is a reason I like them much more with uncompromising blasts and speed. What`s interesting, the songs turn to sound only black and only death metal sometimes or both genres go altogether causing a thrill of having a little earthquake in my room. I do not think this album has ever supposed to sound perfect or anything like that but as a bringer of extreme brutality, Chapter I, Domination works its way to the obliteration of the WEAK .

If I am not mistaken, Mephisto, the guy behind the French one-man band Cult of the Horns, belongs to my FB group "Bestial Black/Death Metal", and I imagine that he will be happy by reading this positive review about the debut album "Chapter I - Domination" of his malevolent creature. I've got this album in my hard disk even since late August when Aleksey of Satanath Records sent it to me along with other releases (already reviewed on these pages) but I listened to it only during these last days.

Firstly self-released in 2016 and then re-issued in 2017 by Symbol of Domination (the extreme parent label of Satanath Rec) in alliance with Ira Militias, "Chapter I - Domination" is presented through an artwork that is a bloody and funereal version of the so-called Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci, a perfect image to introduce yourself to the holocaustic assault of Cult of the Horns. After the militaristic "Intro: March of the Tyrants" full of apocalyptic vibes, the album starts with "Mass Destruction Supremacy", and, from here to the end, it's useless to say that your ears will be under a non-stop attack!

Basically, Cult of the Horns plays a dynamic black/death metal with many tempo changes also thanks to the imaginative drumwork of the session Naja-Atra (also if I consider the drums' sound a bit weak. Anyway, this musician is known for bands like Gomory and Pendulum) so to range from slow to ultra-fast ones while there are some violently bestial outbursts à la Blasphemy (especially in the same "Mass Destruction Supremacy" and "Worship of the Idol", a number that contains even some fantastic riffs) that I like a lot, as you know.

There is need to say that the death and black metal elements are perfectly balanced, so you have to expect to hear, for example, melodic and despairing riffs and arpeggios in a classic black metal style, and also riffs à la Deicide and wheezing growls (alternated with some screams here and there) more typical of the death metal genre. But, to say the truth, there are also some thrashing and punkish moments (like in "Revolts (The Final Uprising)") that gives a scrapping aura able to make the music more intense. And don't forget that, in few songs, there is also a sort of shrilling double guitar solos, like in the first three songs until "Domination".

The great dynamicity of the various numbers is also justified by their average lenght since some of them lasts 5 minutes, reaching even the 6 minutes and 30 seconds circa with "Divide & Conquer", that, containing also long spoken parts, is characterized by strongly black metal tunes. At its contrary, there is that shrapnel of 90 seconds circa called "Eradication", surely the most violent and savage song of the entire album. And, just for this, it's one of my favorites along with "Mass Destruction Supremacy", "Revolts..." and "Worship of the Idol".

Well, before listening to "Chapter I - Domination", I expected a more orthodox war metal album in the style of Necroholocaust or Proclamation (two of the bands mentioned by Metal-Archives as similar to Cult of the Horns) but it isn't entirely correct. This because I discovered a band that belongs surely to the war archetypes but showing, anyway, a good personality expressed through many different influences, a great dynamicity and enough complex structures a bit far from the classic war/bestial standards. Said that, Mephisto is now working on a "Chapter II" and preparing for the live comeback scheduled on 27th April 2018 where the live version of Cult of the Horns will play in Nantes with black metal bands called Sordide and Incipient Chaos. Ha!, and if you wondering who is the demoness at the right in the band pic, I think she is the co-owner, along with Mephisto, of Ira Militias...do I say right?

So, Mephisto is the pseudonym for the guy who is behind this one-man French Black/Death Metal outfit named Cult of the Horns? Brutal? Yes. In-yer-face? Yes, even that. An uncompromising and unholy mix of Black and Death Metal with the right attitude? You bet. That's what you are about to get, and even more

Chapter I - Domination, the band's debut album, falls musically into the same pitch-black cauldron of extremes where Impiety, Blood Incantation, Maveth, Unaussprechlichen Kulten and such unholy forces of evilness all suck their life energies from. It's about pure wickedness, sheer brutality, and operates at extreme levels of heaviness and kind of never lets the listener escape from its strong and crushing grip. Being a one-man performance, you have to respect all of Mephisto's hard efforts on this release: he has made this sound like a full band, albeit some amateur-ish clumsiness here and there cannot be completely avoided either.

Overall, Chapter I... offers a healthy dose of blackened Death Metal which might appeal to many of us diehards as well. Give it a listen, or preferably even two.
