Готическим блэком с романтикой вампиризма сейчас особо никого не удивить, да и может ли этот жанр оказаться в каком-то месте удивительным? По-моему, британцы Cradle Of Filth сделали все возможное, чтобы занять в нем самую авторитетную нишу и остаться королями стиля навсегда. Взяв в руки компакт-диск с новым альбомом Celestial Crown, я подумал, что услышу что-то подобное и здесь, но по ходу прослушивания понял, что ошибся. На самом деле эстонцы с "Крэдлами" имеют мало чего общего и вообще играют что-то такое, что относится больше к дум-металу, хотя исключить из стилистического спектра коллектива блэк-метал тоже никак нельзя. Примерно так же дела обстоят и с имиджем - он далек от сатанинской культуры и имеет конкретно готический окрас, но без соответствующей бутафории. Музыкальный костяк альбома - это думовые риффы, разбавленные редкими тремолирующими запилами с переборами, плюс надрывный мужской скриминг с редким гроулом, который удачно разбавляется женским пением, очень похожим на оперные мотивы. Но хотя вокал девушки вполне красив, до оперного ему пока далеко, хотя тембр сам по себе совершенно не напрягает, что по простому можно описать как "попадает в ноты". За долгое время существования группа вполне сумела сделать из музыки своеобразную театральную постановку, в которой актеры исполняют свои роли очень эмоционально, делая печаль печальной, страх страшным, а тоску не лишенной слез. Это, наверное, и является главным фактором, благодаря которому альбом может стать потрясающей находкой для любителей темноты, а группа - хорошим новым открытием. Ну а песни "Awaken" и "Beyond The Horizon" вообще можно причислить к самым настоящим хитам. Первая выделяется драматичной гитарой, на фоне которой неплохо слушаются страдальческие вопли, а вторая тема - это вообще утяжеленная Lacrimosa. После прослушивания альбома я решил изучить и раннее творчество эстонцев, что непременно сделаю в ближайшем будущем. Конечно же, после того, как вдоволь наслушаюсь "Rebirth".

CELESTIAL CROWN is a band from Estonia that is already active since 1999 and “Rebirth” is their 5th full-length album. The band plays Gothic / Doom Death Metal influenced by bands like ANATHEMA, MY DYING BRIDE or THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. Providing the right soundtrack for the coming winter season, the band starts slowly with the opening track ‘Chaos Reigns Over’ which already shows their nearness to MY DYING BRIDE (without violin) and ANATHEMA during their “Pentecost III” era. Gothic / Death Metal as played in the mid 90s. The band offers all well-known trademarks of this genre. Slow and heavy guitars, spoken effected passages, female vocals and well-dozed keyboards. Only the typical grunts are missing and instead of grunts the vocals are mostly Black Metal styled screams. ‘Beyond The Horizon’ and ‘Collapsed Reality’ come up with really matured songwriting and very well done guitar melodies and solos. Especially the female vocals are well-dozed and not annoying at all. The production is also fine and with a good fitting cover artwork the overall impression of this output is good. Only for the male vocals I would have preferred grunts instead of the screams, while the spoken effected voice is good and delivers a good atmosphere. Fans of this genre and the mentioned bands should give those underdogs a chance.

Дамы и господа! Добро пожаловать в мир чарующей утопии и терпкой меланхоличности! Сентябрь, который славится богатым урожаем, в этом году порадовал также совместным релизом Symbol Of Domination и Divenia Music. Новый альбом эстонской gothic doom/death metal группы Celestial Crown вышел 21-го сентября. Rebirth– достойный плод трудоемкой работы, которую проделали прибалты.
У этой группы довольно-таки интересная история создания. Товарищи и одногрупники-физики Denis Volynkin (Vocals) и Aleksander Shelepenkin (Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drums) в 1999-м году решили создать новый проект, который будет заниматься более серьезной и мрачной музыкой (до этого они играли в местной панк-рок-группе). Весной 2000-го года к ним присоединился еще один физик – Sergei Vlassov ( Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drums, Vocals). Спустя два года к ним присоединилась Diana Volkova, которая участвовала в записи женского вокала до 2014-го года, а в 2015-м году ее сменила Viktoria Seimar. Также в составе есть сессионный бас-гитарист Arnold Looga, который принял участие в записи первого альбома The Embraced. В то же время группа подписала контракт с лейблом Doom Records, который распался через некоторое время после записи альбома.
С того момента группа записывалась и записывается на домашней студии Denis Volynkin - «Divenia Music». После выхода первого полноформатного альбома группа издала еще три на домашней студии: A Veiled Empire (2005), Suicidal Angels (2006) и Ascending... (2014). Важно отметить, что в 2006-м году группа перезаписала свое первое демо Invasion of Suicidal Angels, добавив три бонусных трека. Некоторый период группа функционировала и давала концерты вместе с приглашенными сессионными музыкантами. Но в какой-то момент команда пожертвовала составом из восьми человек в пользу работы на домашней студии, и сократила его до первоначального, состоявшего из четверых музыкантов. В 2014-м году Diana Volkova стала мамой, поэтому для записи следующего альбома ее заменила Viktoria Seimar. И вот, в сентябре 2016-го года вышел новый альбом Rebirth эстонской группы Celestial Crown.
Творчество группы сочетает в себе разные стили: начиная от ласковой и задумчивой готики, заканчивая мрачным и злобным блэк-металом. Успешное сотрудничество музыкантов дало результаты – новый альбом является самым техничным и выдержанным в собственном музыкальном стиле. Это наиболее сочный фрукт из всей коллекции урожая 1999-2015-х годов.
Удачно подобранная тональность, игра с размерами, сочетание стилей и нестандартная гармония – все это воплощено в работе эстонцев. Тягучее эфирное вещество композиций окутывает тонкой паутиной клавишных в сочетании с женским вокалом. Дерзкая ритм-секция не дает скучать. Пронизывающие терции чередуются с жирными рифами. Двухголосие – лирический девичий и хриплый мужской вокал дополняют друг друга, украшая собой текстовую часть композиции.
Гитарные переборы опавшими лепестками роз тонко накладываются на продуманные барабанные партии. Волнующие гитарные соло чередуются с монотонными клавишными партиями, которые воплощают собой тихую скорбь и инстинктивные порывы. Этот альбом – трагичное и суровое творение прибалтов. Хрупкость и легкая грубость, сладострастие и возвышенность, вселенская гармония и утопическая опустошенность слились в одно целое, в чувственный эликсир. Удивительный альбом Rebirth залечит все душевные раны и поможет возродиться из пепла. Итак, приятного прослушивания альбома и незабываемого путешествия во времени, друзья!

Now THAT’s interesting…wasn’t expecting to encounter a gothic metal band on the label.
Admittedly, this is in the older sense of the word, when bands like Therion and earlier Tristania/Sirenia ruled the roost with their more death metallized orientation and focus on male shout/growl vox…but Viktoria Seimar’s sweet soprano turns nearly make all the boring parts worth waiting through.
Yep, I’m giving a bit of backhanded advice there. Cough.
That said, Dennis Volynkin can and does drop a few clean, gothic-style vocal phrases into the mix every now and again, and those work pretty well…and in all honesty? Even the growly bits aren’t terribly offensive, at least by comparison with some I’ve heard. Then again, I’ve heard more than the average bear, so realize I’m probably grading on far more of a curve than you will, dear reader…
The band themselves? No issues whatsoever – it’s fairly typical, if less symphonic than usual for the genre. There’s plenty of melodic orientation, and at times it feels a tad Moonspell circa Irreligious, at least when Volynkin’s doing his clean baritone thang.
I was good with it, especially when Siemar went all Sarah Jezebel Deva on “consumed by fire”…gorgeous.
Decide for yourself, give ’em a spin and see if it sticks.
Momci iz benda Celstial Crown dolaze iz Estonije, a formirani su još sada već daleke 1999. godine. Bilo je tu u bendu i nekih riba, evidentno, budući da se čuju na albumu, ali ako je za verovati Encyclopaedia-i Metallum i njihovom Facebook profilu, trenutno su u postavi samo trojica članova, pri čemu su statusi nekolicine ili nedefinisani, ili su u pitanju neke pozajmice, leteće izmene, ili nešto slično... Kako bilo, oni nisu gubili vreme, do sada su izbacili tri dema i pet albuma, pri čemu je ''Rebirth'', najsvežije izdanje.
Nisam ja odmah snimio opis, pa sam pomislio, onako na prvu, gledajući omot albuma, da je u pitanju neki black/death metal ili tako nešto, a onda sam se malo i iznenadio (do kraja albuma sasvim prijatno) kada sam skontao da zapravo sviraju muziku između gothic i doom metala. Ljudi fino sviraju, teme na gitari su lepe, nisu napadne, negde su sasvim jednostavne, lepo zaokružuju pesme, stvaraju odrađenu atmosferu i slažu se fantastično sa ženskim vokalom, koji nije operski, ništa nalik na Tarju i Nightwish, ali ne štrči, šta više jedinstven je i ''vodi'' muziku u određenom pravcu (verovatno tamo gde bend želi da bude). Bubanj je mahom spor ali ume da ubrza, tu je dupla, po potrebi, da da na dinamici, aranžmanski je fino uklopljen i u službi pesama.
Imam utisak da klavijatura nije baš u prvom planu iako je u ovom žanru više nego potrebna/zahvalna ali je ima, pomaže gitarama i doprinosi celokupnoj atmosferi. Tu i tamo se provuče i poneki solo na gitari, ali ne stalno i ne po svaku cenu i uopšte na ovom albumu ničega nema previše, već je sve baš na svom mestu. Muški vokal je fino izbalansiran sa ženskim, zajedno pričaju priču, tip ima dubok glas, ne kao Peter Steele, ali ne peva visoko uopšte (ne bi ni valjalo), kada to pesma traži growl-uje, ima i gde pripoveda i onda sve to stvara utisak kao da je u pitanju neka predstava u kojoj svaki glas tumači jedan lik, svakako zvuči jedinstveno jer ne liči ni na koga konkretno.
Ne bih izdvajao nijednu pesmu posebno jer su sve stvarno ujednačene da nijedna ne odskače i u svakoj može da se uživa podjednako, pomenuo bih recimo predzadnju stvar ''Dark Forest'', iz razloga što počinje razlaganjem na gitari uz neki gruv na bubnju, sinhronizovan sa rifom, šapat muškog vokala koji se u nastavku utapa u stvarno finu deonicu na ženskim vokalima, pa se smenjuju i dopunjuju i jednostavno mi je pesma ušla u uši iz drugog plana i ostala u glavi.
Iskren da budem, na momente su me dok sam preslušavao album, pa i sada evo dok pišem ove redove (slušam album), asocirali na neke (da ne kažem ''rane'') radove Tristania-e, pa sam se dvoumio da li da ih stavim rame uz rame, Tristania su ipak stari lisci, legende scene i žanra, tako da sam odlučio za kraj samo da kažem da estonci iz Celestial Crown ovim tempom rada, uz malo sportske sreće i neminovnu muzičku evoluciju, imaju materijala da se nadju u tom društvu.

Reminiscent of early Paradise Lost and Cradle of Filth, Celestial Crown deal in darkly romanticised blackened death metal with a compelling mixture of clean, female vocals and guttural roars and a strong element of Doom thrown into the mix for good measure. Remarkably the album was recorded in the band’s home studio (and includes a dedication to the (presumably) long-suffering neighbours), and yet still boasts a remarkably professional sound with vocals ringing out clearly over a well-balanced instrumental mix. A four piece, the band comprises Denis Volnkin (vocals), Sergei Vlassov (lead & bass guitar, drums, keys & vocals), Aleksandr Shelepenkin (Rhythm and bass guitar, Keys and drums) and Viktoria Seimar (female vocals) and together they make a beautiful, often brutal, noise.
The album opens with the ambitious ‘Chaos reigns over’ which juxtaposes Viktoria’s clean vocals with spoken word passages and harrowing growls, all set against a tightly wound death metal back drop. As the song devolves into madness with looped laughter and pounding double bass, the band dial back the violence and indulge in some tension building with the orchestral opening to ‘consumed by fire’ adopting a subtle, creepy tone. The female vocals are particularly effective here, beautifully delivered without indulging in excess, they add melody and depth to the music without blunting the metallic edge of the music. The band continue to impress as they explore the more romantic edge of their sound with elements of Sisters of Mercy emerging in between the powerhouse riffs. A song with a doomy vibe, ‘Awaken’ has a grinding riff set against an awkward beat, and whilst the keys sweeten the sound they remain subservient to the power of the almighty riff. Opening on an orchestral note, ‘Beyond the horizon’ has a whimsical feel with its plucked strings before a churning, deathly riff marks it out as the heaviest track on the album to date with blistering, raw throated vocals and dark, mid-tempo passages recalling Paradise Lost’s much vaunted ‘gothic’ album. This is also the first track where male clean vocals (as opposed to spoken word) appear, but these are less-well delivered and suffer particularly from comparison with Viktoria’s soaring tones. More clean vocals appear in ‘Collapsed reality’ but this time they’re delivered in sonorous tones that recall My Dying Bride and the impact is much greater than on the previous track. Here the doom/death divide is deftly handled and ‘Collapsed reality’ proves to be an album highlight with its memorable melody and powerful, surging riffs.
Subtle and nuanced with almost a progressive edge, ‘deep blue’ has some stunning lead guitar work set against slow, meditative riffs and restrained vocals, providing the listener with some respite before the piece finally explodes into a deathly glow. Heavier, darker and with that strong doom edge once again recalling My Dying Bride, ‘Reflection in a mirror’ has a dense atmosphere with the gloom occasionally punctuated by Viktoria’s sweet vocal beckoning the listener ever deeper until they emerge into the swirling mystery of the ‘Dark forest’ a haunting epic with harmonised guitars and richly textured vocals always working to build that sense of atmosphere. The album ends with ‘gazing demise’, a dense, synth-infused piece that provides the album with a fitting conclusion. At eight minutes, it is the album’s longest track, but the band use the time effectively to weave their spellbinding web around the listener one last time and it passes in what feels like a fraction of its run time.
From start to finish, ‘rebirth continually impresses. Celestial Crown have obviously poured heart and soul into the making of the album and the wide range of influences makes for a consistently engaging listen. Despite working on the album in a home studio, there’s no impression that this is a budget release and the band should be rightly proud of the dark, powerful sound they have achieved on the record. Of course, good production is as nothing without the songs, but each of the nine cuts on ‘Rebirth’ are beautifully rendered and played and nothing serves to distract the listener form the ebb and flow of the music across the album’s fifty-minute run time. Heavy, atmospheric, and quite often beautiful, ‘Rebirth’ is a stunning record and well worth tracking down.

Celestial Crown are a band from Estonia that plays a mixture of black, doom, and gothic metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Rebirth" which was released as a joint effort between Symbol Of Domination Productions and Divenia Music.
Symphonic sounding synths start off the album and also mix in with the heavier sound a few seconds later and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the guitar solos and leads are done in a very melodic style while the slow riffing is heavily influenced by doom metal.
Goth style female vocals are a very huge part of the recording while the spoken word parts also have a vampyric edge to them along with black metal screams also being used at times while male clean singing and whispers are also added in some parts of the songs and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and there is also a brief use of evil laughter and death metal growls and the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody and as the album progresses violins are added onto the recording and some tracks also bring in a small amount of mid paced parts and a later track also introduces clean playing onto the album.
Celestial Crown plays a musical style that takes black, doom and gothic metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Love, Occultism, Death, and Pain themes.
In my opinion Celestial Crown are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom, and goth metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band.

A propósito da excelente estreia dos dinamarqueses End My Sorrow, e da viagem ao passado que o seu som provoca, temos da Estónia os Celestial Crown uma proposta similar. a diferença é feita em alguns pontos - mal seria se tívessemos duas propostas iguais. Os Celestial Crown apesar de existirem mais ou menos desde a mesma altura (final da década de noventa), já lançaram, contando com "Rebirth" cinco álbuns de originais. Em termos sonoros a grande diferença é que existe um protagonismo menor da vocalista feminina (que infelizmente não temos informação do seu nome) e o vocalista masculino (Denis Volynkin) acaba por ter tempo de antena suficiente para que se colocarem no centro das atenções. O facto de termos a predominância de vocalizações mais extremos também faz com que "Rebirth" soe mais primitivo e cru. No entanto, e é aqui que queremos chegar, a qualidade é igualmente excelente. Talvez as músicas tenham demasiado lugares comuns, mas nada que afaste os amantes de metal gótico puxado ao extremo. Recomendado.

С вами случалось такое, что вы заходите в комнату, а потом стоите, не можете вспомнить, зачем зашли? Так вот. Скорее всего, в этот момент вы увидели в комнате инопланетянина, а потом пришли люди в черном и стерли вам память.
Вполне самобытная Gothic Doom/Death Metal корпорация, - в работе уже с 1999 года. Это пятый альбомище команды, который с большим искусством был выпущен лейблом Symbol Of Domination (совместно с мексиканским Divenia Music). А SOD еще не на то способен, мы это уже уяснили для себя. Кстати, на метал архивах подброшен еще один тег — блак, может когда-то нечто черное сквозило в компо... а может и сейчас рвется из подвалов.
Под 50 минут накрошили медиаторов и проч. И, как кажется, не зря. Потому что с первых ударов формация демонстрирует очень зрелый звук - мощный, будто они монтировали вначале буровую установку, а получился саунд альбома. Повторю, группа самобытна — не повторяет чужие лекала. Ведь когда имеешь необходимое количество мозгового вещества в черепе, то можно придумать и кое-что свое.
Композер сразу решил в первой же компо кидать козыря на стол: тут и женское сопрано, и чистый мужской, и харш, и гроул, и пронзительная свободная мелодика, и прямо-таки пропитанный свинцом корпус трэка, в результате чего он становится реальным пробивным орудием для разрушения крепостных стен. И ведь это только начало...
Бригада Celestial Crown по-умному структурирует свои траки, так что издалека слушателю кажется, что тут синтезировано наследие Театра трагедии, Крадле оф филт, Годгори чуть ли не с брутал дэтом. Иногда критики так и пишут — слышу влияния таких групп. Не понимая, что они сравнивают звучание группы со СВОИМ музыкальным опытом. Ну это ладно, это уже психология восприятия...
Лучше о приятном - Celestial Crown продолжает валить (что приятно) в том же самом сокрушительном стиле дум-дэта с несколькими вокалами, что позволяет безапелляционно причислить его творения и к неоклассик мелодик дэту.
Игра затевается серьезная, суровая и увлекательная, потому что команда, как указано, уже имеет свои ключики для достижения стальных сердец фэнбазы. Во первых, это мощь и особая энергетика компо, каждый трак будто бы накачан адреналином, саунд-инженер каждый раз постарался создать тяжеловеса, даже если он начинается с виолончелей. Очень тугой и плотный звук - это тоже достижение студийное (и команды естественно)... Звук... Звук сначала мелодичных, а потом деструктивных гитар, потом снова нежных и обидчивых, далее как специальное сверло с напайкой.
2. … и тут входит женский вокал. Ведь дело в том, что иногда голос Виктории включен в диалог, а иногда будто бы и в диалог, НО звучит совершенно отдельно, сила отрывает его от контекста и он вздымается над компо, и солирует вволю на свежем ураганном ветре. Это будет четко воспринято слушателем при максимально добром качестве звука с реального диска, например. (Да и вся звуковая палитра просто собой голосует за такой выбор. Какие уж здесь мпз(( ).
Мало того, что вокалистка здесь формирует свою личную мощную дорожную карту, (и этого бы уже хватило, чтобы захвалить диск). Так тут вокалист решает к середине компакта показать, что пропахивание реальности и ему под силу. Для кого-то неожиданно, а для кого-то нет, Дэн наливает столько стального расплава в ваш бокал, что понимаешь, —— и его сольная творческая рельсовая дорога имеет очень важное значение для этого диска. И я говорю о чистом вокале, да плюс вспоминаю и экстремальные, уже упомянутые. Итого — на компакте два мощных голоса.
На клаве осталось совсем мало букв и нужно сказать о струнниках. Упомянув в третий раз (не мало ли будет?) о СОЛИДНОМ прессе, создаваемом гитаристами, надо проговориться и о их знаковом и фирменном мелодизме. Суровом и проникновенном, жестоком и умиротворяющем. Но чаще, и это совершенно оправданно в нашем жанре, - гнетуще-пессимистичном — на границе с минором и разДУМчивостью.
В группе анонсированы два клавишника, и их работу можно услышать и заметить, но это тот случай, когда сотрудничество создает МУЗЫКУ, а не склеенные двадцать партий музыкантов.

Devo ammettere che, per quanto le mie conoscenze musicali siano maggiormente cresciute in direzione del panorama scandinavo e — più in generale — nord-europeo, non avevo mai avuto il piacere di imbattermi in una band estone, prima d'ora. Inizio a colmare questa lacuna, quindi, ascoltando l'ultima fatica dei Celestial Crown, "Rebirth", prodotta dalla Divine Music in collaborazione con la Symbol Of Domination Productions, sotto-etichetta della a noi più nota Satanath Records.
Il quartetto, nato alla fine degli anni '90 e con all'attivo già quattro album e tre demo rilasciati prima di questo disco, giunge perciò a me con un certo passato alle spalle, del quale purtroppo non posso dire di conoscere a dovere ogni singola svolta. Faccio questa premessa perché il sound dei Nostri non si può definire certamente sperimentale né risulta innovativo rispetto ai canoni in cui si inserisce, eppure, vuoi anche per gli anni spesi a definirlo, è molto personale. La classica contrapposizione tra una voce femminile soave (ma decisa) e una maschile che alterna passaggi clean meditabondi ad altri harsh violenti (di stampo decisamente Black Metal) è dunque uno degli elementi del filone gotico del Doom ripresi dai Celestial Crown in maniera più che soddisfacente, com'è intuibile già dalle prime due tracce, "Chaos Reigns Over" e "Consumed By Fire"; nei rispettivi finali, però, sono state inserite delle risate (maschili e femminili) in loop, che fanno storcere un po' il naso per quanto suonano finte e forzate, insomma un po' evitabili, a mio parere... un bel po'.
Altra peculiarità ripresa dal Gothic-Doom sta negli arrangiamenti: gli inserti melodici delle chitarre, le armonizzazioni più o meno invadenti fornite dagli archi e i piacevoli fronzoli di tastiere piazzati sapientemente all'interno di tutto "Rebirth" rendono l'intero disco un amalgama molto piacevole, dalle sonorità calde e avvolgenti. Le chitarre fanno un uso piuttosto intelligente tanto di riff cadenzati e intriganti, come quelli all'inizio di "Awaken" o quelli nel mezzo di "Deep Blue", quanto di soluzioni più massicce e incalzanti. La sezione ritmica, dalla sua, supporta in maniera adeguata l'opera, ora creando tappeti volti a definire le più oscure profondità atmosferiche, ora con accelerazioni di stampo quasi Black Metal, senza mai esserlo davvero. Traccia dopo traccia, seguiamo quindi l'evolversi statico ma perenne della proposta dei Nostri, che su queste note adagiano pensieri e riflessioni sul cosmo tanto quanto sull'esistenza umana, con i suoi dubbi e le sue sofferenze.
Questo "Rebirth", a conti fatti, è un album valido e interessante, ben prodotto e piacevole in toto. Il problema che io ho riscontrato sta nel fatto che probabilmente non ho scelto il momento migliore per approcciarmi ai Celestial Crown, visti il sole splendente fuori dalle finestre e la primavera così terribilmente incombente. Disagi climatici a parte, e anche un po' (involontariamente) onorando l'animo Gothic dell'opera, ne consiglio dunque l'ascolto a sole tramontato, possibilmente accompagnandolo con un buon bicchiere di vino rosso.

Celestial Crown gründeten sich vor bereits 18 Jahren im beschaulichen Estland und wie sich das für Bands aus dem Nord(ost)en gehört, hat sich die Band der düsteren Musik verschrieben. Mit „Rebirth“ erschien jetzt das fünfte Album der Band auf dem sich die Band gereift und mit neuer Sängerin präsentiert.
Celestial Crown mischen ganz ungeniert Gothic mit Doom und Black Metal, packen das in ordentlich kraftvollen und differenzierten Sound und erschaffen damit ein interessantes, düsteres Machwerk. Kraftvolle Riffs wälzen sich behäbig aus den Lautsprechern, während sich immer wieder einzelne Melodien in den Vordergrund drängen, unterstützt von behäbigen Drums, die sich gelegentlich zu Blasts hinreißen lassen und Keyboards, die sich eher im Hintergrund halten und nur den letzten Feinschliff zur Atmosphäre beitragen. Immer wieder wandelt sich die Band leicht, bringt mal ordentliche Groove-Walzer mal atmosphärisch dichte Strukturen und mal wird das Tempo noch weiter gedrosselt und mit melodischem Klargesang um sich geworfen. Dabei ist der Gesang mindestens so abwechslungsreich wie der Rest der Songs, wenn nicht noch mehr, immerhin liefern die Sänger alles von tiefen männlichen Growls und verzweifelten Screams über männlichen Klargesang in verschiedenen Lagen bis zu hohem weiblichen Klargesang alles was das Herz begehren könnte, nur auf Rap wird erfreulicherweise verzichtet. Durch diese Vielfalt im Sound, interessante Ideen und die dichte Atmosphäre schaffen es die vier Musiker ihr Werk über seine vollen 51 Minuten spannend und interessant zu halten.
Wer kraftvollen Metal zwischen Gothic und Doom Metal sucht und Black Metal-Einflüssen nicht abgeneigt ist, der macht mit Celestial Crown und „Rebirth“ absolut nichts verkehrt, immerhin gelang der Band mit diesem Album ein interessantes, kraftvolles und atmosphärisches Werk abseits von Kitsch-Keyboards und Schminke.

La rinascita degli estoni passa per nove tracce corpose che cancellano di fatto quanto pubblicato in precedenza. La sensazione è infatti quella che con il successore di ‘Ascending...’ la band fondata da Denis Volynkin e Sergei Vlassov possa davvero svoltare e farsi conoscere al di fuori dei propri confini. Prima di tutto perché la produzione di quest’album è nettamente superiore a tutto quanto era stato ottenuto in termini sonori passato ed in secondo luogo perché adesso al microfono troviamo l’accattivante Viktoria Seimar, che ricordiamo con Inferno, Whispering Forest e Suicidal Romance ma anche nel singolo ‘Hear Me Calling’ di Virtual Victim. La materia trattata è sempre un gothic-doom con venature black metal e sinfoniche, basato su testi occulti e ricco di pezzi elaborati ed effetti scenici. Agli arrangiamenti ha contribuito anche il chitarrista-tastierista Aleksandr Shelepenkin ed i passaggi più significativi sono senza dubbio ‘Consumed By Fire’ e ‘Gazing Demise’. Un tour massivo nel vecchio continente potrebbe consacrarli definitivamente.

I really shouldn’t be amazed that there are so many bands in the world that I haven’t heard of but I am. Because it doesn’t seem to end. If I were to keep track of them all I’d go insane. It is an impossible job to keep track of every single band out there. I just scrape on the surface and even that tires me. This Estonian band mixes doom and gothic metal in such a manner that I am impressed. It maintains the heaviness of doom with the beauty of the gothic. I have a soft side for this kind of metal and can’t seem to get enough of it. I like how they mixes different sub-genres to make it their own. This is definitely the surprise of the week for me.

Quinto CD de los estonios Celestial Crown, una banda enrolada en el doom/death, con los consabidos contrapuntos de voces limpias, femeninas y rugidos guturales. Nada nuevo bajo el sol, pero aun así bastante disfrutable.
El álbum es parejo y a lo largo de los 51 minutos que dura, Celestial Crown dispone sobre la mesa todos los elementos del estilo, yuxtaponiendo voces limpias con pasajes de voz hablados y gruñidos desgarradores, riffs poderosos, a veces sutiles y matizados con aristas progresivas y góticas, todo confluyendo en una amplia gama de influencias hace que su escucha sea consistentemente atractiva.
Fans de Anathema, My Dying Bride y Sisters Of Mercy, aquí tienen una nueva opción para su anaquel discográfico.

Sometimes a little too determinedly eclectic, Celestial Crown's last release is still pretty strong.
'Rebirth' sees Estonia's Celestial Crown, well, reborn with a changed line-up with female vocals now provided by Viktoria Seimar after her long serving predecessor, Diana, left the group. The band embrace an eclectic range of styles to create a frenetic combination of Doom and Black Metal with some moody Gothic flourishes. Clocking in at just under an hour, this fifth full length release is an epic, progressive experience with a lot going on. It features some interesting interplay between the different members of the band both musically, and particularly vocally with frequent switches between clean and growled delivery.
This amalgamation of different styles is immediately apparent on opening track, 'Chaos Reigns Over', which begins dramatically with moody synth effects, quickly morphing into a fearsome blast of Black Metal featuring three different vocal styles: clean, spoken word, and harshly growled male vocals, complimented by some rather beautiful, ethereal work from Viktoria. Throw in a powerful riff and liberal use of Gothic synth effects, and it's an exciting, eclectic opening to the album.
It's when these different elements combine and complement each other that the album is at its progressive best. Possibly never more so than on the excellent 'Awaken' which begins with a classic metal, almost Maidenesque, riff, some intense crashing drums, emotive spoken word vocals and soaring female singing that adds a chilling Gothic flavour. There's certainly a lot going on and it comes together beautifully.
With so much thrown into the musical melting point, there is always a risk that the ingredients won't always blend in the desired fashion. And there are times when it feels like there's a little too much reliance on the growled/clean/female vocal combination, and it leaves one wondering if some tracks would be improved by sticking to one, or even two of these styles. That's not to say that each individual performance viewed in isolation isn't well delivered, it's just that the constant interplay can, on occasion, feel forced. However, these moments are rare, and the combination works more often than not. 'Dark Forest', for instance, is a melodic Gothic treat that shows Celestial Crown at their finest.
In essence, 'Rebirth' is a progressive, eclectic amalgamation of Doom, Black Metal and Gothic Metal that offers a grand, epic soundscape that provides a varied and interesting listen. Although it is occasionally guilty of over-egging the pudding somewhat with the three different styles of vocals, it's still a strong, technically impressive release with a terrific blend of outright ferocity, and dramatic Gothic overtones. Overall, a healthy rebirth of the band with their new line-up that promises more strong material to come from them in the future.

Celestial Crown – Rebirth: Celestial Crown comes from Estonia and is a Gothic Doom/ Death Metal band. “ Rebirth” is an amazing offering I instantly fell in love with Celestial Crown's sound. The mixture of Denis Volynkin with his male vocals that range from clear to brutal and the female vocals of Viktoria Seimar works perfectly. Some might say the vocals are weak but I think they are balanced and fine the way they are. This band is simply fantastic and intriguing. Definitely a must have in your collection. Each track stands on its own and this CD is a pleasure from beginning to end.

Celestial Crown è un gruppo baltico, formato nel 1999 in Estonia, e ha all’attivo 3 demo e 5 full-length, una vera rivelazione data l’ubicazione geografica del progetto. In perfetto stile dei vecchi Paradise Lost e Cradle of Filth, la band presenta una musica molto particolare, un metal molto ruvido ed oscuro diluito con una miscela irresistibile di voci femminili pulite, ruggiti gutturali e forti elementi di Doom e Black che danno più compostezza e pesantezza. Sorprendentemente l'ultimo album, “ Rebirth”, è stato registrato nello studio casalingo della band, eppure vanta un suono straordinariamente professionale con voci che risuonano chiaramente su un mix strumentale ben bilanciato. Come struttura, la band comprende Denis Volnkin (voce), Sergei Vlassov (chitarra e basso, batteria, synth e voce), Aleksandr Shelepenkin (chitarra ritmica e basso, tastiere e batteria) e Viktoria Seimar (voce femminile) ed insieme fanno una musica bella, anche romantica, ma con delle sonorità ruvide e graffianti. Ottimo il songwriting ed i testi, che li fanno assomigliare un pò ai cugini russi Autumn Rain Melancholy. Ottime anche le chitarre, con un suono decisamente tenebroso, ma allo stesso tempo anche aggressivo. Oltre a tutto ciò, la classica contrapposizione tra la voce femminile soave, ma allo stesso tempo decisa, e quella maschile che alterna passaggi di clean meditativo, di stampo Doom, a dei scream violenti, di stampo decisamente Black Metal, è uno degli elementi del filone gotico del Doom ripresi dai Celestial Crown in maniera più che soddisfacente. Altra peculiarità ripresa dal Gothic-Doom sta negli arrangiamenti: gli inserti melodici delle chitarre, le armonizzazioni più o meno invadenti fornite dagli archi e dalle piacevoli sonorità delle tastiere piazzati sapientemente all'interno di tutto il "Rebirth" rendono l'intero disco un’amalgama molto piacevole, dal mood caldo e avvolgente. Le chitarre fanno un uso piuttosto intelligente con tanto di riff cadenzati e intriganti, come quelli all'inizio di "Awaken" o quelli nel mezzo di "Deep Blue", quanto di soluzioni più massicce e incalzanti. La sezione ritmica, dalla sua, supporta in maniera adeguata l'opera, creando tappeti volti a definire le più oscure profondità atmosferiche, con accelerazioni di stampo quasi Black Metal, senza mai esserlo davvero. Traccia dopo traccia, seguiamo quindi l'evolversi statico ma perenne della proposta del gruppo, che su queste note adagiano pensieri e riflessioni sul cosmo tanto quanto sull'esistenza umana, con i suoi dubbi e le sue sofferenze.
Non si può non parlare anche dell'ambiziosa traccia "Chaos reigns over", che amalgama la voce pulita di Viktoria con passaggi di parole pronunciate e ringhi strazianti con una sorprendente dose di metal pesante. Mentre la canzone si trasforma in follia con risate in loop e contrabbasso martellante, si percepisce una svolta insana verso la violenza e si concede un po' di tensione con l'apertura orchestrale di "Consumed by Fire", adottando un tono sottile, ma allo stesso tempo inquietante. Le voci femminili sono particolarmente efficaci qui, ben distribuite senza indulgere in eccesso, aggiungendo melodia e profondità alla canzone senza smussare il bordo metallico della musica. La band continua ad impressionare mentre esplora il lato più romantico del loro sound con elementi di Sisters of Mercy che emergono tra i riff della prossima track , dalle atmosfere decisamente doomy, “Awaken”, che presenta un riff macinante contro un ritmo pesante e sonnambulo, mentre i synth addolciscono il suono, rimanendo però sottomessi al potere del riff onnipotente. Aprendosi con una nota più orchestrale, "Beyond the horizon" ha un tocco stravagante con le sue corde pizzicate, che precedono un riff malato ed insano, che lo contraddistingue come la traccia più pesante dell'album, con parti vocali maestuose e spumeggianti, ricordando il tanto decantato album "gotico" di Paradise Lost. Questa è anche la prima traccia in cui appaiono voci maschili pulite , ma queste sono meno ben distribuite e soffrono particolarmente del confronto con i toni impennati di Viktoria. Le voci pulite appaiono pure in "Collapsed Reality", ma questa volta vengono consegnate in toni sonori che ricordano My Dying Bride ed i Therion, l'impatto è molto maggiore rispetto alla traccia precedente. Qui la divisione doom /death viene abilmente gestita e la canzone si rivela un highlight dell'album con la sua melodia memorabile e riff potenti e inarrestabili. Sottile e sfumato con un bordo quasi Progressive, “Deep Blue” ci mostra un assiduo lavoro da parte della chitarra solista incentrata su riff lenti, meditativi e voci potenti, fornendo all'ascoltatore un po' di respiro prima che il pezzo esploda definitivamente in una battaglia mortale. Più pesante, più scuro e con quel forte bordo di tristezza che ricorda ancora una volta My Dying Bride, “Reflection in a mirror” ha un'atmosfera densa con l'oscurità occasionalmente punteggiata dalla voce di Viktoria che richiama l'ascoltatore sempre più in profondità fino a quando emergono nel vorticoso mistero dell’infinito cosmico. "Dark Forest" invece è un'epico inno, con chitarre armoniche e voci riccamente strutturate che lavorano sempre per creare una magica ed avvolgente atmosfera. L'album termina con “Gazing Demise”, un pezzo denso e molto ricco di forme ed innovazioni che fornisce all'album una fine colminante e trionfale. Nonostante è la traccia più lunga dell'album, ma la band usa il tempo in modo efficace per tessere la loro rete incantatrice attorno all'ascoltatore un'ultima volta, facendolo perdere il senso del tempo e dello spazio.
A conti fatti, la rinascita che ha dato quest’album a Celestial Crown impressiona continuamente. La band ha ovviamente investito anima e corpo nella realizzazione di questo lavoro maturo ed impegnativo e l'ampia gamma di influenze rende l'ascolto costantemente coinvolgente. Nonostante la produzione casalinga, non si ha l'impressione che questa sia una pubblicazione low-cost e la band dovrebbe essere giustamente orgogliosa del suono cupo e potente che ha ottenuto nel disco. Naturalmente, una buona produzione è nulla senza delle linee-guida e senza delle idee giuste, ma ognuno dei nove pezzi di "Rebirth" riesce a farsi notare dall'ascoltatore e di trasmettergli l’impazienza di notizie e nuove uscite da parte del gruppo baltico.
