Die deutsche Formation ROADKILL XIII geistert bereits seit 2002 durch den Untergrund und im Mai erschien mit „Triskaidekaphobia“ das zweite Album. Der Begriff „Triskaidekaphobia“ bedeutet die abergläubische Angst vor der Zahl 13, was natürlich ein schöner Name für ein Album von einer Band mit solch einem Namen ist.
„Triskaidekaphobia“ ist acht Lieder Stark und beinhaltet ein treibendes und packendes Gemisch aus Thrash Metal und Death Metal. Welcher Stil gerade überwiegt ist oftmals gar nicht so leicht auszumachen, was meiner Meinung nach für die Qualität der Band spricht. ROADKILL XIII spielen einfach direkt geradeaus, was sich oftmals in schnellen und stampfenden Rhythmen, einem dreckigen Gesang und zahlreichen Riffs äußert. Doch ROADKILL XIII sind nicht nur schnell und brutal, im Gegenteil. Immer wieder sind auch düstere und schleppend bis mittelschnelle Passagen und Lieder zu hören, die trotz des gedrosselten Tempos mächtig Dampf haben. „Exitus Letalis Yersinia Pestis“ ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel dafür, wie man trotz einer angezogenen Handbremse schön druckvoll und unheilvoll aufspielen kann. Doch Schnelligkeit ist wesentlich häufiger zu hören, und dann erinnern mich ROADKILL XIII an die Amerikaner ENGRAVE und deren 1998er Album „The Rebirth“. Ich habe keine Ahnung ob die Scheibe heute noch jemand kennt, doch ROADKILL XIII spielen einfach ähnlich auf, gerade die Kombination aus trockenem Gesang und schwungvollem Riffing ist vergleichbar.
„Triskaidekaphobia“ ist eine feine und druckvolle Scheibe die jede Menge Spaß macht. Der Gesang ist dreckig, das Riffing melodisch und abwechslungsreich und das Tempo variabel, aber überwiegend schnell. Das Album hat für mich keine erkennbaren Schwächen und überdies gefällt mir die relative Eigenständigkeit. Bis auf die zufällige Ähnlichkeit zu ENGRAVE haben mich ROADKILL XIII schön eigenständig unterhalten.
Oftmals denke ich, es ist schon schier unüberschaubar das Genre des Death/Thrash. Umso mehr erfreut es mich dann immer wieder, wenn man dann Acts entdeckt, welche mit viel frischem Blut und einem enormen Schlag ans Werk gehen. Roadkill XIII sind eine davon und servieren uns mit „Triskaidekaphobia“ bereits den zweiten Langstreich. Bis dato habe ich eben noch nie von der Truppe was gehört, doch was hier aus den Boxen schallt spricht für sich. Gereifte Mischung aus modernen, wie auch traditionellen Anleihen des Mischverhältnisses und dazu noch eine spitzfindige Beigabe aus Groove und Death ‚n‘ Roll Elementen. Absolut ansehnlich und das geht einfach donnernd und mit viel Wiedererkennungswert ins Gehör. Gibt es etwas Vergleichbares? Ja und zwar aus unserer Alpenrepublik und so klingen die Jungs wie die Waffenbrüder von Mosfet. Einfach enorm, mit welcher Vehemenz uns hier die Luft abschnürt und amtlich die Fresse poliert. Viele Einflüsse hat man wohl aus dem hohen Norden, setzt aber dem Ganzen einen durch und durch eigenen Stempel auf. Der Paukenschlag zwischen erdig-rauem Old School Thrash und dem Thrash der Moderne ist den Jungs aus Regensburg sehr gut gelungen. Die feinen Ausläufer im Bereich des Death bzw. Death ‚n‘ Roll sind wunderbar und gehen einem bis in die tiefste Gegend des Körpers. Ansteckend und durchaus animierend sieht man sich vor der Aufgabe hier einfach die Sau raus zu lassen. Mit solchen Songs auch keine Schwierigkeit, denn diese haben viel Wiedererkennungswert und wissen einfach den Hörer durch die Bank zu reizen. Ein besonderes Goodie ist dabei die kauzige Shoutstimme des Fronters und komplett ist eine sehr gute Mischung die man einfach laut hören muss. Es mag schon sein, das man hier gegen eine starke Konkurrenz ankämpfen muss, aber mit dem vorliegenden Album hat man locker eine Massenvernichtungswaffe in der Hinterhand die fast alles plättet.
Fazit: Enormer Silberling, den uns hier die Bayern vor den Bug knallen. Mit viel Einfallsreichtum und einem enorm tollen Death/Thrash ‚n‘ Roll Faktor hetzt man uns von Track zu Tack. Viel Ansteckungsgefahr und das blutgeleckte Treiben machen mit dieser Formation viel Spaß.
Was ein geiler Start. „Hunt And Kill“ machts den restlichen sieben Tracks vor, wie geil weil einfach simpel Riffs sein können. Dann geht’s aber auch in einem Ritt weiter. Der Vierer spielt so was von straight, wie es mehr nicht geht. Das ist die hohe Slayer-Schule, und ein gewisser Grad Kaltschnäuzigkeit. Das gilt auch für das kleine Solo in „Quintessence Of Fire“. Kurz und bündig, aber voll auf die Zwölf. Selten heben die Jungs aus Regensburg noch einmal das Tempo an, aber wenn doch, dann knallts richtig. Für „Exitus Letalis Yersinis Pestis“ bremsen sie mal ab, und siehe da, auch hier groovts geerdet an allen Ecken und Enden. Gitarrist und Shouter Peter Kern liefert uncleane Vocals der rotzigen Art, aber ein paar ziemlich blackmetallische tauchen noch zusätzlich auf. Bevor man sich Gedanken macht, ob in „No Salvation“ Vocals gedoppelt wurden, sei angemerkt, dass ex-Dark Fortress Growler Azathoth Gastvocals beigesteuert hat. Die Band macht mit den acht Tracks auf seinem zweiter Longplayer alles richtig.
'Triskaidekaphobia', a word which would score bigtime in a game of Scrabble and a serious tongue-twister, means 'fear of the number thirteen'. Many people do actually fear this unlucky number. Some buildings have a twelfth and fourteenth floor but no thirteenth. Sports teams avoid the number and some people shiver when they have to enter house number 13. Do you know why? Well, it might be because in all those places, a German band named Roadkill XIII is slamming their music, scaring the shit out of everybody.
The weapon of choice for this German quartet is thrash induced death metal at a very high tempo. This is the stuff that evokes moshpits, stagedivers and crowdsurfers everywhere and with good reason. The music blasts, the riffs are fierce and the drums are highly energetic. 'Hunt To Kill' and 'No Salvation' incorporates two vocalists, including Azathoth, which gives the songs something extra. In fact, those double vocals make these my favorite tracks on this album.
Although you shouldn't underestimate the other tracks. 'Downfall' for example is a great piece of old school death metal, rolling on in a fierce tempo and with sheer brutality. Maybe you can compare it with a blend of Obituary, Motorhead, Slayer and Bolt Thrower. Often they also throw some blackened sickness into the whole, as in the brilliant 'Exitus Letalis Yersinia Pestis', where even Samael or Khold come to mind. That being said, this is quite a varied album.
So no, Roadkill XIII isn't a band to be taken lightly. This is a massive force of extreme metal, well capable of setting venues on fire everywhere they go and leaving them in a blazing 'Inferno', the closing track on this impressive piece of work. So, before I'll leave the death metal albums behind for today, I'll just recommend this to any death metal fan out there. You won't be disappointed by what this quartet has to offer. Bang those heads, surf that crowd and mosh that pit, that's all you have to do...

Encore une découverte reçue par Satanath Records qui au gré d’une collaboration nous présente cet album de Roadkill XIII.
Le combo nous vient d’ Allemagne et s’est formé en 2002 et c’est ici le second album q u’ils nous proposent, et l’ambiance proposée mixe un death bien thrash , comme à l’époque où les teutons perçaient) avec une touche également groove metal.
Ce sont huit titres bien corrosifs qui nous sont proposés, des titres qui vous pousseront au headbang et au moshpit.
Prenons une bonne dose de tarte dès l’ouverture sur « Hunt and Kill » avec ce début bien 90s et saccadé puis cette suite qui déroule bien énergiquement. Deux chants crachent leur venin, tous deux dans un ton éraillé et l’on pourra penser à ce niveau par moment à Crack Up autre combo germain, ou encore à Martin Shirenc de Pungent Stench (entre autres).
De la double pédale qui tartine et du riff qui flaire bon l’époque, l’énergie est dans la place.
On apprécie la bonne formule de « No Salvation » également qui partira en croisade contre le down tempo par le biais de rythmiques et de riffs incisifs et bien couillus ou encore l’excellente touche thrash guerrière d’un titre comme « Quintessence Of Fire » avec cette rythmique digne d’une marche au combat qui ne sera pas sans déplaire aux amateurs de Bolt Thrower par exemple toujours alternant sur cet esprit thrash des familles qui ici ne sera pas sans rappeler Kreator.
« Downfall » aussi met la gomme et la raclée avec ce riff méchamment accrocheur. Je mettrais ma bière à bouillir que vous n’headbanguiez pas au gré des riffs old school et de cette puissance ambiante ainsi que sur l’eightisante « Purblind Gods ».
Un titre se démarque des autres : « Exitus Letalis Yersinia Pestis » de par cette atmosphère beaucoup plus glaciale et black metal. Nous avons ici le titre le plus long, non dépourvu de variations avec toujours cette bonne sueur thrashouilleuse, des roulements de caisse claire, des passages de grattes alternant le lourd et le dynamique et ce chant arraché.
C’est un album qui donnera bien du plaisir aux nostalgiques de vestes à patches, de bonnes bières tièdes et de moshpits à l’ancienne, avec de bons riffs, de la bonne ambiance générale qui laissera des thrashes sur les murs !

Roadkill XIII are a band from Germany that plays a mixture of death, thrash and groove metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Triskaidekaphobia" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records and Rebirth The Metal Productions.
Dark sound effects start off the album before going into more of a heavy thrash metal direction and once the screams and death metal growls are added into the music a great amount of blast beats can be heard in the faster sections of the music and the music also mixes in a lot of mid 80's and early 90's influences.
When solos and leads are added into the music they remain very true to an extreme death/thrash metal direction and spoken word along with movie samples can be heard in the music at times and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and as the album progresses the music starts incorporating more old school groove metal elements and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and one of the tracks is very long and epic in length.
Roadkill XIII plays a musical style that takes death, thrash and groove metal and mixes them together to create a style of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover hate, anger, social criticism and horror themes.
In my opinion Roadkill XIII are a very great sounding mixture of death,thrash and groove metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hunt And Kill" "No Salvation" and "Inferno".

2014's "Triskaidekaphobia" (a.k.a. fear of the number thirteen) is ROADKILL XIII's sophomore album. Their debut album, 2007's "The Chronicles" was released independently, so maybe that is the reason why I haven't heard anything about this band before. As stated above, I don't know if they have had any change or evolution in style since their debut album, but as for "Triskaidekaphobia", I can say this is a solid Death / Thrash album with an obvious old school vibe and the usual German twist. The musicianship displayed here is impressive. The band sounds really tight and their songs have great dynamics. They range from slow, double bass filled parts to full on Thrash Metal speed, akin SEPULTURA's "Arise" or SODOM's "Agent Orange" eras. Curious enough they did not use blast beats in this album, which is something that I really admire and applaud. I think that resource has been overused in the last 7-8 years. But that is just a personal opinion. A perfect example of their style can be found in the song 'Purblind Gods'. This one mixes the slower (and a bit more melodic / groovy) side of the band with a mid-paced Thrash Metal attack, chain gang chorus included! Check out the neat guitar lead too. Most of their songs have really good riffing which leads to infectious head banging. The album sounds really organic and it has that raw, dirty overall analog atmosphere. A gnarly guitar tone, round bass guitar tone and sharp drums are the perfect foundation for the vocals. Actually, Peter Kern's vocals work perfectly along their songs: in your face attack for the faster numbers, but they also adapt well to the slower and heavier songs. Mix wise, everything is there. Every instrument has its spot and they work really good together as a unit. ROADKILL XIII is not bringing anything new to the table, but they make it up with tons of attitude, great Death / Thrash Metal riffing and an undeniable mid 90s vibe. Для тех, кто в последнее время взалкал турбореактивного трэш-дэта, дэт-трэша и прочего мрачняка со смертельным отливом фирмы Satanath Records и Rebirth The Metal Productions (Германия) (еще в 2014 году позаботились о таких гражданах и гражданках) издали в своей линейке вот такой сабжевый диск. Немецкая группа ROADKILL XIII смело возрождает олдовые традиции Слайер, Криэйтор и Анлешед одновременно, и к тому же в одном флаконе. А то, что такие традиции ценны и почитаемы, говорит неизменный успех команд, миксующих определенные наработки старичков в самом для себя удобном формате (для того, что бы они приобрели поистине ужасающее звучание), реанимирующих ностальгию по пулеметам, расставленным на быстрых тачанках.
Немцы (земля Бавария) работают с ноль второго года и весьма преуспели в звукоизвлечении, причем не торопятся выплескивать новые идеи в публику, (а кажется, настаивают их в специальных резервуарах, где оно бродит как региональное пиво), а только потом собирают на диски и бросают ими в металлическую публику. Таким образом были выпущены еще один компакт — полноформат в ноль 7-ом году и еще три эпишки и демка.
Начал-то я отклик абсолютно серьезно, прослушивая альбом за альбомом блаковые коллективы, через время чувствуется настоятельная потребность получить пачечку с таблетками адреналина совершенно другого рода. Так что дэт-треш-грув от ROADKILL XIII попался очень своевременно.
Группа прекрасно ориентируется в стилистике, и потому ее опусы звучат мощно, уверенно и совершенно убойно. Все составляющие, три — основные слышны в саунде во всем объеме, конкретно, тем не менее скручиваясь своеобразными проволоками в один стальной трос.
В ансамбле всего 4 человека — два гитариста, драммер и бас-вокаллер. И потому, уж будьте уверены, гитарное наполнение как и ПОЛОЖЕНО, ПОСТАВЛЕНО )) здесь на должный уровень. Вас вдруг «ожиданно» встречает стена железного звука. На которую мы надеялись, а она злонамеренно и случилась. Все без малого 40 минут звукоизвлечения оформлены в ключе острой и жестокой гитарной атаки, редко вязкой и топкой, как германские болота, однако чаще скоростной, резко изобретательной, риффово совершенной и уверенно стоящей на плечах предшественников. Как из трэшевого лагеря, так и дэтового.
Синтез, как водится, превзошел родителей — обоих, по разным позициям, по разным аспектам. Вы это увидите сами. А уж я скажу про мастерство гитаристов, которые бережно отнеслись к «Наследию предков» и вполне аутентично воссоздали музыкальный дух деструкции и антиклерикализма, пронзивших метальную сцену в 80-х. Гитаристы не скупятся на отличные «вписки» — вбросы соляков, вроде неожиданных, но тщательно продуманных и конструктивно (в траке) оправданных горячечной задумкой композера
Обязательно надо сказать и о студии, в которой писалась и доводилась группа, ибо четко собирать металл научились многие, а вот прецезионно — еще не все )). Стоп-стоп, читаю в буклете: recorded, mixed and mastered by ROADKILL XIII. Вот сюрприз! А звук-то достойный — это хорошо заметно с первых тактов этого угара.
Музыканты тактично впихнули в диск какой-то небольшой кусок фильма и на том же уровне идет некая месса в клавишном исполнении. Когда это делается тонко и не навязчиво, это дает свой эффект — приподъема над музыкальным материалом, слушатель как бы вздыхает поболее воздуха и опять ныряет в металлическую пучину.
Вокалист указан в буклете один, он идентифицируется как дикий, трешевый, а точнее использует переходный гроул-харш, поистине медвежий по своему спектру и насыщенности дикой энергетикой. Есть еще (в двух траках) и более низкий ужасный блаковый вопль-ор, что оказывает должное ошеломительное=останавливающее впечатление. Это приглашенный сногсшибательный вокалист Azathoth, он ранее пел в Дарк Фортрессе, сейчас работает в тройке групп.
Группа время от времени гастролирует по злачным (в металлическом смысле) местам Европы, призывая местных металлюг припасть к корням экстремального жанра, на что те охотно идут, ибо музыка, исторгаемая ансамблем, весьма хороша для того, чтобы потрясти хаером и вообще подвигаться на площадке. Все это отлично транслируется мощным потоком с реального диска.
Album německé kapely ROADKILL XIII nepatří k nejčerstvějším, ovšem stále se jedná o poslední nahrávku. Jak se ukazuje, pánové z města Regensburg nejsou úplně nejplodnější kapelou (debut „The Chronicles“ vydali už v roce 2007) a rovněž po stránce propagace si kapela s ničím příliš hlavu neláme (jaká to škoda).
Hudební pojetí ROADKILL XIII totiž vůbec není nezajímavé a jsem si jist, že kapela má dostatečný potenciál na to, aby posluchače zaujala. Přiznávám, radostí jsem z „ Triskaidekaphobia“ sice neskákal, ale několik skladeb z alba jsem jsi skutečně užil. Předně se mi však na nahrávce zamlouvá neuvěřitelně „špinavý“ zvuk, totální zasviněné bahno, které se ve jménu účelu mění ve vyvoněnou oázu. Tvorba ROADKILL XIII, jež kombinuje thrash/death metal s prvky blacku, se ukazuje účelná především díky kompoziční pestrosti, variabilitě a riffové chytlavosti. Němci dokáží kupříkladu jeden podařený riff v jedné kompozici připomenout hned několikrát, ale protože má jejich hudba kromě uvedeného i atmosféru, nepůsobí tento ústřední znak nijak rušivě či nudně.
Zároveň se domnívám, že síla tvorby ROADKILL XIII je nejvíce působívá v momentě, kdy Němci vedou režim hudby ve středních a pomalejších tempech. Shodou okolností mohu jako ideální vzorek doporučit píseň „Exitus Letalis Yersinia Pestis“, umístěnou hned pod touto recenzí. Titul alba „ Triskaidekaphobia“ je sice totálně krkolomný, ale beztak byste si ho měli zapamatovat. Jak už jsem výše zmínil, ROADKILL XIII nepřinášejí do Evropy „novou Ameriku“, instrumentálně neboří skály, ale zkrátka jsou schopni postavit skladbu tak, aby z ní něco kloudného vypadlo. A to není málo!
