The Venezuelan black/death band Veldraveth have now reached their twentieth year of existence, and they commemorate the landmark with a new album, their fourth, which bears the name Martyrdom. It bears the hallmarks of experience and the spirit of ambition, generating visceral assaulting power but also elaborately creating a range of atmospheres that chill the skin and entrance the mind.

Martyrdom has been set for co-release by GrimmDistribution with More Hate Productions and Kuyen Producciones on November 29th. They recommend it for fans of Aosoth, Sinmara, Svartidauði, Mgła, Uada, Weapon, Antaeus, Cherontas, Abigor, Nightbringer, and The Ruins of Beverast.

Those are good references for what Veldraveth have achieved on Martyrdom, but an even better clue is the song we’re premiering today — “On The Precipice Of Enlightment“.

It’s a captivating song, one that blends blazing fury and mystical allure, moods of wild possession and bleak, downfallen bitterness, and with a sound that rings but is still gritty and rough to the touch.

The sorcery in the music comes through in the stately and sinister opening, and the fire-brand violence breaks out soon after, in gales of jittering, seething, blaring riffage, and vibrantly swirling leads, with potent double-bass turbulence providing the propulsion.

Vocalist Vel possesses a remarkably savage voice, with a range that rises in spine-tingling fashion, just as the music accelerates into a maelstrom of withering chaos. But those moments of downfall also lie ahead, in clanging and moaning chords that convey gloom and grief, especially when the drums fall silent. Here too is when the black spell beckons again, an enchantment of desolation — broken by one last rush of frenzied discord.

Veldraveth  are  a  band  from  Venezuela  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on t his  recording plays  an  occult mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Martyrdom"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Grimm  Distribution,  More  hate  productions  and  Kuyen  Producciones.

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  black  metal s creams  also  being  utilized  at  times  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  black  metal  style  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  more  angry  shouting  style  on  some  of  the  later  tracks,  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental  and towards  the  end  a  brie  use  of  synths  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.

On  this  album  Veeldraveth  takes  the  raw  aggression  of  black  emtal  and  mixes  it  in  with  the  vocal  style  of  brutality  of  blackened  death  metal  to  create  a  very  aggressive  sounding  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Darkness  and  Death  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Veldraveth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.

Venezuelan band Veldraveth are out with the album "Martyrdom", and metal is the playground for this production. Extreme metal is the orientation of choice, and in this case a variety of the form with high tempo, high intensity passages and growl style vocals as the dominant aspects. The vocals are placed a bit higher in the mix on this album, while the guitars in general and the guitar soloing in particular are more dampened, giving the songs a rather distinct mood. Otherwise I note liberal use of slower paced sequences with more of an atmospheric laden presence,  on occasion arguably with a bit of a groove going on too. A further item of note is the use of the drums to increase and decrease intensity, which strikes me as a well executed effect. An album to seek out by extreme metal fans with a taste for the use of slower paced and less intense atmospheric laden interludes in landscapes otherwise defined by high tempo and high intensity.

Also from the latter end of 2021 comes another black/death hybrid in the form of Martydom and its 52 minutes of blackened aggression.

Raw and icy, Veldraveth create foul ugly black metal that’s augmented with death metal power. The music has a chaotic feel to it in places, with dark dissonance and disjointed melodies working together to slice skin and crush skulls. In other places it just punishes with cold and lethal intent.

This is a harsh, unfriendly album. It takes time, but its charms can be revealed under the right circumstances.

Today’s review is of Venezuelan Black Metal band Veldraveth’s new album.

This release is an occult offering of Black Metal that strives towards a dark and chaotic sonority that brings to mind the Scandinavian scene, incorporating elements of mystique and a powerful and mysterious vocal performance instead of opting for plain aggression. The result is a mesmerizing offering that may also bring to mind acts such as Martwa Aura or Acherontas, though perhaps this album leans more towards a Blackened Death Metal direction.

Arpeggios and wrathful percussions mixed between the blasts help to create here an atmosphere of utmost blackness, as does the sinister ambient outro. The release is a pure kind of Extreme Metal that may be enjoyed by fans of aphotic and dismal music. This is also the kind of full-length that get better after every play. My personal highlights are “Abandonment Of Faith” and “Sun, Inflamate The Sun”.

I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal.
