Autumn, Leaves, Scars are a band from Romania that has been featured before in this zine and plays a depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Unter dem Füße der trauerd Winde" which will be released on April 24th as a joint effort between Satanath and The End Of Time Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly grim and high pitched depressive black metal screams. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and when the music speeds up a lot of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Elements of post metal are also mixed into some parts of the recording along with a couple of instrumental also introducing clean playing and fire burning sounds as well as a brief use of shoegaze influences onto the album before returning back to a heavier direction.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and as the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard on another instrumental and they also add in a touch of ambient. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Romanian and cover life, love and negativity themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Autumn, Leaves, Scars and if you are a fan of depressive post black metal, you should check out this album.

Romanian band Autumn, Leaves, Scars have their latest album "Unter Dem Füsse Der Trauerd Winde" out, and their take on extreme metal comes with a few distinct style elements to it. The main of these is that the vocals are placed up in the mix, so that the raspy, twisted talk and shout like vocal style becomes a dominant element throughout. This makes the instrumentation and the music itself much more subtle, so while fairly dynamic the instrument side of matters have much more of a supplemental role and the changes and alterations becomes somewhat toned down due to this. An identity mark of the music that does stand out is the manner in which drums and guitars operate at different pace setting, an effects this band explores with liberal glee. An album for black metal fans to lend an ear too this one, and those with a strong affection for the vocal aesthetics of this variety of extreme metal will possibly be the audience that gets the most joy out of this album.
