The Israeli band Zed Destructive shares the name of its founder, who is the vocalist of Winterhorde and the former lead guitarist of Thokkian Vortex. He started the band in 2017 after leaving Thokkian Vortex and began working on music with former Thokkian Vortex drummer Ariel Lior. In time Dani White joined the band as second guitarist, and Daniel Kitchka rounded out the group as its bassist.
Their first record is an album named Corroded By Darkness, which will be jointly released on August 31st by Satanath Records‘ label-partner GrimmDistribution (Ukraine) and Wings Of Destruction (Russia). In the music there are occasional hints of Winterhorde’s air of theatrical drama, but don’t go thinking that Zed Destructive is Winterhorde by a different name, because the music here is a distinctive experience that stands apart, a hybrid of death and black metal that rightly led the releasing labels to recommend it for fans of Deicide, Death, Behemoth, Dissection, Gorgoroth, Marduk, and Dark Funeral.
It will become quickly apparent when you listen to the track we’re premiering today that Zed Destructive‘s musical personality is multi-faceted. It channels vicious savagery, pummeling brutality, impressive technical flourishes, and lead-guitar work and soloing that seizes attention without becoming an over-the-top spectacle — in part because those performances are so closely connected to the songs’ central melodies, which are just as vital an aspect of the music as its ferocity.
The song we bring you today, “Raped Existence“, provides an immediate taste of Zed Destructive‘s musical hybridization, as a light and lilting guitar arpeggio ripples over ominous monster chords. That introduction unfolds into a hammering beat, jabbing riffage, and a flurry of fast, flickering fretwork that gets quickly under the skin.
The song’s hammering momentum is coupled with a sense of grim determination and bestial voracity, thanks in part to the ferocity of the growling and screaming vocals, but the swirling and trilling melodies introduce elements of beleaguered dismay as well as fiery ecstasy. The soloing is a continually scintillating experience that will please lovers of guitar pyrotechnics, yet (as forecast above) they serve not merely to get a listener’s pulse racing but also become a key driver of the song’s addictive melodic hooks.

The album provides a lot of music for the money — it’s nearly an hour long — and it features eye-grabbing cover art by Gragoth (Luciferium War Graphics). And if you like what you hear (which we hope you will!), you’ll be happy to know that Zed Destructive are working on new material for the next album.

Когда я и мои подруги-одногодки выбирали себе в средней школе «злые» металлические псевдонимы, на первых местах по значимости у потенциального варианта стройным рядком стояли краткость, звучность и орфоэпическая простота. Исходя из таких критериев, «Гнида» или «Тварь», например, были очень даже подходящими позициями, а вот «Ослепительная жрица великого Люцифера», «Беспощадная тёмная валькирия» и «Скудоумная тупорылая звезда» были в самом низу гипотетического списка и никем всерьёз не рассматривались. А ведь были даже в те наивные и блаженные времена отдельные личности, которые не считали зазорным именовать себя «Вселенскими маятниками судьбы» или «Гнойными корпускулярными дегенераторами», и лидер залетевшей к нам сегодня на огонёк израильской команды тоже, судя по всему, был одним из них или тусил где-то неподалёку.
Мало того, что этот товарищ на полном серьёзе именует себя Zed Destructive и заставляет своих друзей обращаться к себе, используя полный вариант своего дьявольского псевдонима каждый раз когда им вздумается позвать его на пиво или окликнуть в супермаркете, так он ещё и свой новый коллектив решил назвать в честь себя любимого и старается теперь распространить обязанность ломать язык, произнося его корявое субкультурное имя, на жителей всея планеты.
И я не случайно начала этот спич, принявший вид рецензии, с разговора об именах. Как известно, «как вы лодку назовёте…», а название новосформированного израильского состава, во главе которого стоит этот самый Zed Destructive, с тотальной очевидностью демонстрирует пафос, амбиции и немалую притязательность его участников. Ребята явно желают блистать, затмевать и восседать на алмазных тронах в огненных тронных залах, а в музыке предпочитают путь радикального максимализма русских сказок, когда море синее-синее, меч - обязательно Кладенец, а если Змей-Горыныч, то, непременно, трёхголовый, огнедышащий и с непробиваемой бронёй под хвостом.
И ведь стартует дебютный альбом Зеда Дистрактива очень даже фирменно и впечатляюще, «соответствующе». Я слушала первые две вещи и радовалась: вот умеют же пафосные чуваки нарулить качественный и адекватно представляющий свои идеи музон. Как чётко и метко всё у них звучит, какие хорошие и внятные соло, как мотивно дребезжит ритм-секция, как грамотно и «по нотам» наяривают гитары и всё такое… Радовалась три вещи, четыре, радовалась до пятого трека, а потом незаметно для себя самой стала подумывать о том, что можно было бы и сменить пластинку, послушать между делом первый Deicide или второй Vital Remains… Данный признак, определённо, есть верное свидетельство в пользу того, что Зед и его кореша что-то где-то перемудрили на репетициях, когда готовили свой лонгплей. А может захотели усидеть на двух стульях и угодить сразу и нашим, и вашим?
Идей на альбоме много, большинство из них довольно высокого качества и однообразием диск не страдает. Но, всё равно, где-то в середине пластинки появляется ощущение, что это старички из Dream Theater, предварительно законспирировавшись и скрываясь от орд поклонников, решили с перепоя тряхнуть стариной, вспомнив золотые деньки своей ранней юности, когда они могли себе позволить что-то более экстремальное и агрессивное, чем традиционный беззубый прог. Да, формально перед нами страшный и зверский блэк-дэт с трэшевым привкусом, но слушать его будет интересно только людям, зависающим на более очкастой и ботанической разновидности тяжёлого рока, а всем остальным зверства здесь могут показаться слишком бутафорскими.

Death/Black Metal made in Israel. Оказывается, все течет, все меняется, разбивается, вырастает и змеится новыми побегами. Приблизительно по такому принципу случилось и с созданием этой команды. Гитарист по имени Zed Destructive ушел из одной команды, переговорил с другим музыкантом, вместе начали работать для того, чтобы нарастить металлические заросли Израиля. Получилось. И на одну группу и один альбом стало больше.
Состав полностью, важно — сами понимаете. Daniel Kitchka – Bass, Dani White — Guitars, Ariel Lior — Drums, так же в группах Nothing Lies Beyond, ex-Thokkian Vortex, Zed Destructive - Guitars, Vocals, также в группах Winterhorde, ex-Thokkian Vortex.
Ну и сразу скажу, не буду томить, бонус-трэком на альбоме расположилась, ядовито сверкая золотистыми дорожками, композиция The Truth Above (Deicide cover). Это сюрприз прямо, подарок для души. Рассмотрим чуть позже - на сладкое.
Иногда группы в составе первым указывают ударника, просто по алфавиту, просто случайно, или если барабаннер лидер команды. Но в данном случае если бы группа назвала первым Ариэля, то я бы понял - потому что они с Даниэлем (бас) так начинают бодро, по-дэтовову красиво, ураганно— такой афтершок)) перед альбомом. Ну а далее динамичный, впечатляющий дэт блэк, отлично спродюсированный по звуку в студии... ну конечно и Зэда заценили, его пару вокалов особенных: дэтовый гроул и харш, и скриминг. Первый трэк Repulsive Society отлично показывает как работает ритм-секция... Эта ли была поставлена задача? Но пиар-подача работает, увлекая слушателя, разбивая чьи-то неуместные представления молотом секционного упражнения.
Продолжение экзекуции в номере втором, и кажется на передний план пора выдвигать и вокалы, и гитарное строительство. Кажется дождался с гитарой !!!, Дэни с Зедом впиливают струнные баррикады, которые с удовольствием разносит бешеный паровоз, который оседлали бас-гитарист и драммер. И кажется меня «услышал» композер, музыкальная диспозиция вдруг выравнивается, ритм-секция не то чтобы успокаивается, просто одевается мышечной плотью струнных и продуктивностью вокалиста. Композиция обретает дэтовый объем и многофактурность железной многоцелевой ракеты.
Что бы такое порекомендовать... Заглавную Corroded By Darkness, может быть... мид-темпово начинают музыканты, нагнетая газовую струнную химическую атаку, и кто же зажжет запал? Вокалист страхует свою партию, вкапывает ее в тело композиции и не форсирует ее, наоборот, придавая по-настоящему дэтовой жути и груолингово-харшевой мощи.
Ну и конечно, кавер на великих идолов DEICIDE, песня The Truth Above— из альбома 1997 года Serpents of the Light. Ну, во-первых, ребята УЖЕ сменили саунд, он у них стал объемным, воистину, как у мегатонного чугунного дирижабля. Когда я переслушал оригинал, то подумал: не зря ZED DESTRUCTIVE взяли этот трэк — наверное для того, чтобы показать еще раз свою убойную ритм-секцию. Однако, «уроки» уже восприняты, кавер - полнокровный во всех отношениях - вздымает вверх, демонстрируя техническое совершенство и обворожительное продюсирование.

Black / Death Metal técnico y melódico desde Israel, banda que sobre todas las cosas proyecta poder y destreza.
Este es el debut álbum en un formato + presentación bastante profesionales, de esto último tienen bastante pues de novatos o aprendices no tienen nada.
El sonido es 60% Death y 40% Black, la facha es sin corpse paint. En este álbum prácticamente todo está bien pensado, variaciones por aquí, variaciones por allá, una buena metralla desde la batería y una compleja docena de riffs contagiosos al mas puro estilo de los grandes, de esto la mayor prueba se encuentra en el track 06 “Raped existence”, el tipo le da caña de ida y vuelta.
Si en tu primera impresión solo te fijas en el logo y lo plasmado en la portada, ahora espera a revisar el contenido, el cual en resumidas cuentas está mejor.

Corroded by darkness is an eleven-track darkening anthem, well ten strong songs, track eleven being a Deicide cover, soon as the listener hits that play button, one is welcome to death battering of the drums and killer growls (this is just the start), follow suit with the second track and deeper into the abyss of darkness, one will find Zed Destructive music direction is more than a blackened death metal but channels this vicious savagery, pummeling brutality, impressive technical/progressive and aggressive with swirling and thrilling dark melodies, ditto rhythms, dark acoustic guitar sections (giving a more profound feeling, to the concept), topped with multiple compositions of dark atmosphere, slow/fast passages, rhythmic aural brutal progressive battering and clean moments, strong and powerful vocals, ten composed/well-written songs & music, along with awesome musical instrumentation, extraordinary craftsmanship/musicianship and lyrical themes about Occult, anti-social and anti-religion
Leading into the final few minutes of the last track 'Eternal Damnation' ends with some dark rhythm/melodic riffing, follow suit, by a superb job of a cover version of Deicide's 'The Truth Above.'

Nach meiner Recherche stammt das 2017 gegründete Quartett aus Israel und zelebriert Death Metal gepaart mit vielerlei anderem, was sie mir nun mit voller Wucht und voller Breitseite auf ihrem Debütalbum “Corroded By Darkness” präsentieren.
Schon beim Opener “Repulsive Society” geht es brachial zur Sache, gesanglich wird gemischt geliefert und immer mal wieder wird dezent und klanglich an der Geschwindigkeitsschraube nach unten gedreht. “Deformed Minds (Hatred)” kommt mit fetten Riffs und machtvoll geschwärzt um die Ecke und eine Dauerrotation des obersten Körperteiles kann ich empfehlen (wer es durchhält), denn der Song ist echt ein Brett!
“The Dark Wanderer” wandert seicht beginnend von leicht ethnischen Tönen ummantelt los, geht dann etwas schneller schritttechnisch vorwärts, ohne aber sich im gesamten auszupowern und immer wieder werden Solos passend eingeworfen. Der “endlos” anfängliche Schrei bei “Church” wird diese wohl zum wanken bringen und ansonsten bewegt der Song sich in hauptsächlich “stilleren” Gefilden, aber auch Ausbrüche sind an der Tagesordnung.
“Traitors” lässt die Double-Bass los, verfängt sich in perfekter Gitarrenarbeit, teilt immer wieder schwer stampfend aus und teilweise hörend progressives erhebt sich innerhalb der Spielzeit. “Raped Existence” steht für fast durchgehende Intensität, die nur durch episch anmutende Momente “gebremst” wird, während “Your Lies” vielschichtig breit geformt auftritt. “Corroded By Darkness” ist interessant, ist verschiedenartig aufgebaut und dies nicht nur weil die Drums bzw. die Pedalen anfänglich “knatternd” Feuer frei schreien.
Nun bin ich auch schon (schon ist gut) im unteren Drittel angekommen und bis dato kann ich sagen, das vieles exzellent ist, vielfaches sehr gut gefällt, aber manchmal das doch etwas zu lange der Titel mir “endlos” vorkam. Nicht gemeint damit ist die beachtliche Kreativität und Spielweise, nur hätte man vielleicht die Zeit von vornherein einkürzen können, aber ich kann auch verstehen das man dem Kunden, dem Käufer vieles bieten möchte und daher “meckere” ich im Flüstermodus.
“Evil Wind” bläst anfänglich leise und verträumte Töne, bevor er böse wird und das sich stetig steigernd, “Eternal Damnation” lässt viel Black-Metal Atmosphäre tosend frei und zu guter letzt haben wir noch eine eigene Interpretation des Deicide Klassikers “The True Above” aus dem Jahre 1997, was verdammt eindrucksvoll und voller Energie nach vorne stürmt.
Fazit: Nicht nur das heilige Land wird erbeben, wenn ZED DESTRUCTIVE zum dämonischen Tanz aufspielen! תודה רבה!

Несколько лет назад фронтмен израильских мелодик-блэкеров Winterhorde и бывший участник Thokkian Vortex Зед Дистрактив (или просто "Разрушительный" Зед) решил, что пора бы и о себе позаботиться и свои творческие амбиции реализовать, а то все на чужого дядю, да на чужого дядю... В итоге на свет появился проект имени своего лидера, нашлись единомышленники, а то, что у них всех получилось, я имею удовольствие держать в руках в виде диска "Corroded By Darkness". С чем этих товарищей (и себя заодно) поздравляю. Много ли вы знаете метал-групп из Израиля? Я вот навскидку назову, пожалуй, только Orphaned Land и Melechesh и еще парочку малоизвестных типа Dagor Dagorath, которые мне довелось когда-то рецензировать. Теперь к этому списку прибавилась еще одна. Забавно, но очень многие израильские группы почему-то играют именно экстремальную музыку, т.е. всякие "блэки", "дэты" и прочее, и сабжевый коллектив не стал исключением, обосновавшись где-то между вышеупомянутыми стилями и стараясь найти свое лицо. "Corroded By Darkness" убивает сразу двух зайцев - сохраняет четкую преданность корням и демонстрирует, что на дворе-то уже 2020 год. Чем мне не нравятся многие группы, решившие жить вчерашним днем и творить исключительно по олдскульным рецептам и заветам "отцов", это тем, что звучат они отвратительно. Да, в этом есть свой шарм, но слушать такое - скорее удел извращенцев и фетишистов. Потому что одно дело альбом, записанный где пришлось в начале 90-х и запечатлевший в себе ту эпоху и тот самый момент времени, а другое - совершенно упоротый саунд, нарочито низведенный до отвратительного уже в наше время просто потому, что "так звучали отцы". Кто действительно "отец", а кто не стоящая внимания дешевая подделка, понятно практически сразу. Сам Зед все это тоже сразу понял и, послав к чертям все эти заветы, пошел в нормальную студию к нормальному звукачу (а именно, к гитаристу Дани Уайту), и они вдвоем заставили эти песни звучать максимально адекватно и приятно, чего уж таить. И не надо при прослушивании корчить снисходительные гримасы, мол, ну старались же, потому что на самом деле старались. Материал проникнут олдскульным духом и действительно многое взял в той музыке, играть которую уже не модно, но сделан современно. Атмосферные проигрыши, мрачные мелодии, бластбиты там, где надо (а не везде), особое настроение у каждого трека. По факту получился этакий приблэкованный техно-трэш с повышенным градусом агрессии в духе Unleashed и Coroner в одном флаконе. И еще - парням удалось на этом альбоме воссоздать нордический аллюр, как будто ковался сабж далеко-далеко на севере, а не вблизи средиземноморских пляжей с яхтами и красотками в бикини и с автоматами. Ну и ни к чему не обязывающий кавер на Deicide как приятный бонус для тех, кто в теме - я просто не фанат, так что не оценил. Сам по себе "Corroded By Darkness" оставляет очень приятное впечатление - пропорции и дозы экстремальных компонентов подобраны настолько адекватно, что нет откровенных переборов или недоборов, разве что местами. Получилась крепкая, мощная и последовательная работа с неплохим потенциалом, возможно, один из самых недурных металлических дебютов этого года. Есть ощущение некоего музыкально конструктора, но и его удалось профессионально скрыть и сгладить. Все-таки парни умеют писать не только качественное долбилово, но и музыку с толковыми мелодиями. И на десерт отличное оформление в багряно-желтых тонах - никакой неразборчивой борьбы черного с белым, никаких опопсевших маньячных рож Эда Репки или наркоманского фотошопа Сета Сиро Антона. Очень адекватный артворк. В общем и целом приятный альбом, который я бы рекомендовал в первую очередь любителям олдскула - "Разрушительный" Зед вас приятно удивит.

Today’s review is of Israeli Black Death Metal band Zed Destructive’s debut album.
The band lean much more towards Death than towards Black Metal, with the latter only being present as little hints on songs like the title track or “Evil Wind”. On most of the album, the band play some well-produced, modern Death Metal that may sometimes lean towards Brutal Death Metal as on “Repulsive Society”, but most than anything, they play like the current style of Melodic Death Metal of bands like Children Of Bodom or In Flames.
The concept is ok, but the songs feel really typical and barely original. Besides, this 11-track album (that includes a decent cover of Deicide’s “The Truth Above” sounds excessively long. The idea seems to be as if Arch Enemy met Dimmu Borgir, but with all the characteristics of this composition being pretty common, listening to the whole album may become egregious. Nonetheless, it seems like something that may become of interest for a larger audience of the likes of Nuclear Blast fans, but for fans of underground Extreme Metal this isn’t quite what I’d recommend.
I recommend this album to fans of Black Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal.

Zed Destructive are a band from Israel that plays a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Corroded By Darkness" which was released as a joint effort between Grimm Distribution and Wings Of Destruction.
A very fast and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats while the vocals also bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing as well as the music also adding in a great amount of 90's influences but keeping it modern at the same time.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Some of the tracks also adds in a small amount of classical guitars before returning back to a heavier direction as well as all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
At times the music also gets very technical sounding along with some of the songs also being long and epic in length as well as some of the faster riffing also adding in some tremolo picking and the album also closes with a cover of Deicide's "The Truth Above". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover occultism, anti religion and anti social themes.
In my opinion Zed Destructive are a very great sounding blackened death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording.

Zed Destructive are an Israeli Death/Black Metal band. And although this is their debut, the band members do
have previous with the likes of Thokkian Vortex, who I’ve covered in the past, as well as Winterhorde.
A couple of days ago I finished the third series of Israeli tv show Fauda... Fauda translates as chaos... which is how
this album could have sounded, were it not so precise in its delivery.
And it is the razor sharp delivery that makes you take notice, as does the colossal drum sound... man, I just love
Ariel Lior’s performance on this album and whoever did the production, really did do an amazing job...
I don’t think there any real surprises musically, it’s mainly Death Metal with the occasional divergence into blacker
realms. At times, like on Traitors, the band adopt a more technical style that blends in some crushing old school
riffing... it’s nothing new, but for what it is, it’s just really fucking good... You want a crushing form of Blackened
Death, you got it.
I’ve said so many times in the past, that I’m not a Death Metal fan... obviously, I can’t use that ever again, because
when the right kind of Death Metal hits me, I love it.
In reality, no album is faultless... but if there are any weaknesses to be found here, I’ve not spotied them.

Много ли вы знаете экстремальных групп из Израиля, играющих качественную и интересную музыку? Мне кажется, их можно сосчитать по пальцам одной руки. Поэтому однозначно мимо этой дэт-блэк-метал команды не стоит проходить мимо.
31 августа 2020 года увидел свет дебютный альбом Zed Destructive, который был выпущен на украинском лейбле GrimmDistribution.
Порой случается, что первый блин выходит комом, но это явно не тот случай, потому что диск получился реально классный.
Нетрудно догадаться, что парни в этом деле – явно не новички, профессионализм здесь чувствуется буквально с первых нот.
К слову сказать, Zed Destructive – это псевдоним вокалиста Winterhorde, который когда-то был гитаристом в Thokkian Vortex, а его новый проект назван исключительно в честь себя любимого.
Сразу хочется отметить превосходное качество записи – отчетливо слышен каждый инструмент.
Сам материал достаточно цепляющий, а игра музыкантов очень технична. Особенно хороши виртуозные гитарные соляки.
Мелодическая составляющая здесь тоже на высоте.
Мы можем заметить, что группа тяготеет к сложной структуре построения композиций – ее музыке свойственны неожиданные смены ритма, чередование быстрых и медленных гитарных пассажей, хотя, в целом, альбом скоростной.
Лидер коллектива, Zed Destructive, демонстрирует прекрасное владение сразу двумя техниками экстремального вокала – гроулингом и скримингом.
Лично меня очень порадовал кавер на песню Deicide «The Truth Above».
В общем, советую заценить данный релиз всем поклонникам качественного дэт-блэка.

Zed Destructive è il side project dell'omonimo cantante - qui in veste di cantante/chitarrista - dei Winterhorde, band in cui è noto come Z. Winter; e con "Corroded by Darkness" Zed arriva al debut album con questa sua nuova creatura, grazie alla produzione targata GrimmDistribution: undici tracce, tra cui segnaliamo in conclusione una cover dei Deicide, di Black/Death Metal molto, molto ben eseguito. I già citati Deicide sono senz'ombra di dubbio una delle influenze principali della band di Haifa, ma anche i Dissection sembrano giocare un ruolo importante, così come le arie folk mediorientali dei Melechesh: dal mix tra queste varie sonorità unite a melodie e passaggi progressivi che Zed sembra aver portato in dote dai Winterhorde, quello che abbiamo in conclusione è un disco che nonostante vada a sfiorare l'ora di durata riesce a non annoiare mai, ma che anzi grazie ad un lotto di brani particolarmente riuscito si ascolta con particolare attenzione. Non che ci sia qualcosa di particolarmente originale nell'operato dei Zed Destructive, ma è indubbio come i brani che compongono la tracklist siano stati scritti ed eseguiti con estrema perizia: i toni epici di "Deformed Minds (Hatred)", l'innata tecnica che possiamo trovare in "Repulsive Society", financo l'ottimamente eseguita cover di "The Truth Above" dei Decide, sanno come trascinare ed intrattenere l'ascoltatore. Per non tacere di quelle atmosfere dal sapore arabo/mediorientale di cui i Melechesh sono padroni indiscussi, ma che anche i Zed Destructive dimostrano di saper padroneggiare a dovere (vedasi "The Dark Wanderer", brano che è con ogni probabilità il migliore del lotto, ex aequo con "Traitors".
Un debut album, questo "Corroded by Darkness" dei Zed Destructive, che supera ampiamente la semplice sufficienza: l'opera prima della band israeliana è un lavoro più che soddisfacente, che saprà a modo suo tenere incollato l'ascoltatore per l'intera sua durata.
C.T.: Schönes-Black-Death-Scheibchen. Ist nicht der Megakracher, aber läuft dennoch gut durch, ohne langweilig zu sein.
K.K.: Eine wuchtige Mischung aus Black und Death Metal bieten Zed Destructive aus Israel. Ein solides Album mit mitreißenden Melodieläufen und der richtigen Portion Brutalität.
P.S.: Angeschwärzter Death Metal, der bei mir sofort für gute Laune sorgt.
M.K.: Richtig gute Nummer zum Einstieg. Hier wird einiges dargeboten, einzig und allein ein Punktabzug für die verwendeten Standard Samples bei den Drumtriggern, da wäre etwas mehr Individualität schön gewesen.
S.K.: Ordentliches Death-/Black-Gewitter. Mehr Death als Black, aber der Black scheint immer wieder durch, gerade bei den atmosphärischen Parts. Vor allem ist das Album stark abwechslungsreich. Abschluss vom Album macht ein Deicide Coversong…Kann was!
T.L.: Ein finsterer Kracher: Zed Destructive lassen hier mächtig Dampf ab und finden die nahezu perfekte Balance zwischen den Metal-Extremen.

Después de finalizar el sortilegio, el pozo de almas emergió tras un enorme temblor de tierra. Bienvenidos al universo de Zed Destructive.
El pasado 31 de agosto de 2020, Satanath Records, GrimmDistribution y Wings Of Destruction lanzaron al mercado el primer L.P de los Death Black metaleros Zed Destructive llamado «Corroded by Darkness».
De normal, tengo que confesar que cuando llega material de algún país digamos poco dado a ofrecer música extrema suelo asustarme. Tienden a ser mediocres y aburridos a más no poder. Sin embargo, y gracias a Odín, el debut de los de Israel es toda una maravilla. Imaginaos una mezcla entre Morbid Angel, Dissection y algún grupo sueco de Melodic Death Metal de primera generación. Supongo que una vez relatado dicha explicación os estaréis haciendo una idea. Ahora, cogedla, y aumentadla de calidad unas mil veces y ahí tendréis el Elepé que os comento hoy. Señoras y señores, estamos ante todo un clásico contemporáneo. Ahí lo dejo.
Riffs revienta cabezas los creados por Zed Destructive y Dani White. Sus acometidas, repletas de ferocidad, doble armonía y tremolo picking son simple y llanamente geniales. No contentos con ello, cuando la ocasión lo requiere y menos lo esperéis, se atreven con pasajes acústicos. Asimismo, los solos, precisos y punzantes os cortarán la respiración.
Como era de esperar ante una propuesta así, degustaréis tanto growls como un gutural más alto. Qué de moda se ha puesto hacer cosas así ¿no creéis?
El bajo asoma tímidamente la cabeza en ‘Church‘. Lamentablemente, en el resto de canciones pasa a un segundo plano como suele ser habitual con dicho instrumento.
A pesar de que los mid tempos predominan, no penséis ni por un instante que la velocidad no existe en la manera de encarar el kit de tambores de Ariel Lior. Blasts hay, pero los justitos.
Sin duda, me llamó especialmente la atención ‘Traitors‘, por sus desarrollos y giros de dirección.
Discos así son los que hacen afición. No dudéis en haceros con una copia física.

I don’t know a whole hell of a lot about Zed Destructive other than that they hail from Israel, and that their album Corroded by Darkness is out now. It’s taken a while to filter onto our playlist, but it’s one of those surprises that’s been worth picking up and chucking on the mp3 player.
They’re no holds barred death metal with black overtones, and not out to shape any new moulds. Simply, they’re dark and evil and bludgeoning. Nothing new or genre-defining, but what they do they do well. The production of the album is meaty, and it’s the tenderising hammer-blows of the drums that really got me listening when “Repulsive Society” invaded my headphones. Very little crash or treble, they sound like Rocky Balboa on a rampage, slamming punch after punch into hanging carcasses. Absolutely ideal.
There are some nice old-school Sepultura acoustic intros to “Raped Existence” and “The Dark Wanderer”, but they don’t outstay their welcome before the destruction begins. I definitely found myself working away at my desk with my head nodding slowly quite often as I had the album on!
Zed Destructive do well to rattle off ten original tracks (and a cover) on this album without sounding repetitive or overly generic. It’s a very crowded scene with thousands of bands (many of them very good) to compete with, but they definitely hold their own. There’s an edge of melodeath in places, some songs have some harsher black metal sounds, but overall this is quality death metal.
The aforementioned cover is a faithful arrangement of Deicide’s “The Truth Above” (from Serpents of the Light) and in terms of production I actually think it wins out over the original because of the punchier delivery.
Corroded by Darkness doesn’t unleash any surprises, but it’s a wholesome slab of devastatingly heavy death metal which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed listening to.
I had not heard of this band before, but apparently that is not that strange. You see, this combo from Israel was formed in 2017, but they did not release anything ‘huge’ and ‘official’ yet. But hey, they might put their moniker on the international map as from now on. Why? Because of Corroded By Darkness.
But first things first. This band was formed by a guy acting under the nickname of Zed Destructive. You might know him from his collaboration with Thokkian Vortex or Winterhorde (I once (2010) wrote a review for this act, but it was on Concreteweb’s former platform, so you can’t find it anymore right here). Zed started this new act after he left Thokkian Vortex, and soon he got joined by some same-minded musicians, amongst which his former Thokkian Vortex colleague Ariel and talented guitarist Dani White.
The basics for the debut album Corroded By Darkness did start around that time, with the full recording done in Winter 2018 at Dani’s (home) studio (both Dani and Zed took care of the production duties too), and with mix and mastering done by Ages Of Atrophy member Ran Reinahy (who also worked with, for example, Edellom, Failed Creation or Aphotik). The stuff gets physically and digitally released in a partnership in between Ukraine-based GrimmDistribution and Russia’s Wings Of Destructions, with the jewel-case compact disc version being limited to (only) three hundred copies. That limited physical one includes an eight-page booklet with the lyrics (in English, by the way), backgrounded by quite apocalyptic, bloodred artwork by American artist Gragoth (Xaemora, Abominant, The Furor, Pestlegion, Magoth, Witnesses a.m.m.).
Corroded In Darkness is an eleven-pieced album (there is a Deicide cover track as bonus on this edition) that clocks fifty-five minutes. It brings a modern, yet at the same time quite timeless approach of Blackened Death Metal, combining theatrical passages with harsh ones, melodic fragments with thunderous blasts, blackened fragments with deadly ones, and up-tempo pieces with restraint.
But the most overwhelming thing must be this album’s technically high-skilled performance. The spine, the veins, the lymphs, the whole corpus is permeated by a high level of, at the one hand, progressed song writing, and, at the other hand, an ingenious execution on all levels: vocals, lead instrumentation, rhythm section, and the whole equilibrium in between all of them. The result overwhelms, leaving no room for abstention and continuously charging. Even the few (semi) acoustic fragments do not define any form of relief or subvention. The permanently ongoing sonic assault march on and on.
The focus surely lies on the fundaments of both traditional and technical Death Metal from the mid-school (an old-schooled basement translated into 21st-centuries reality and existence), and this goes for the whole instrumental and vocal package. Moments of groovy up-tempo joy smoothly interact with almost grinding eruptions of disgust and abhorrence; then again ingeniously high-tech constructions get penetrated by pounding no-nonsense riffage or hammering nihilism (with ‘nihilism’ being defined as much more than an empty statement!).
At times, it does sound ‘classic’, reminding me (us) of the glorious past. The glory of the old(er) school did surely influence this recording, without expiring in a cheap copycat entity. Personally, I do appreciate that tribute to the Old School because the use of elements from toe ‘roots’ remain quite virginal; I mean, they are not raped and abused for stupid, hollow purposes (unfortunately, this happens way too much, but not in this recording’s case). But at the same time, that ‘classic’ approach interacts well with a modernistic one too. Once again purely personal, but modern progressions often leads to artificially constructed products. Yet here too, Zed Destructive somehow know how to avoid predictability, superficiality and vain.
I may (and must) add my (personal / subjective) thoughts on this band’s own-faced reality. I do not think they did find their distinctive majesty yet. No, there is no copy-cat identity at all (even though you might surely dissect their appreciation for the Scandinavian early-Nineties scene for sure), but I am sure that Zed Destructive must, and will, evolve, in order to develop their own, idiomatic sound. They surely do have some specific features – a piece like the mighty title track explains a lot – and I do foresee a great future. As for now, I think that Corroded By Darkness is a masterful first step, which will surely lead to a condign worldwide appreciation. This outfit has about everything to reach a dedicated and devoted audience. It’s up to them to choose in between a huge mainstream audience (success might be a nasty result) or a smaller yet convinced, sequacious committed one. I go with the latter, and I think this project / band might get that far.
It would not be fair not to mention Zed Destructive’s cover of The Truth Above by a band called Deicide – you might have heard about them, haha. This is another example of Zed Destructive’s fine approach. They could have chosen for a recent anthem by – no, I will not mention any name here – but they did choose to cover a piece from last century, once again strengthening their dedication to the origins of all Aural Evil. It’s a good choice, I think, and besides, their reinterpretation of this (great) track is at least ‘memorable’ too.
Aaaaaah, I do look forward to experience this band’s next, progressed outcome. I hope they will not go the ‘popular’ way (there are enough Behemoth clones around), but if they deepen into their own potentials and opportunities… You know… Yet, until then, Corroded By Darkness surely is a recommendation for all fans of straight-forward Blackened Death Metal!

Corroded by Darkness on israelilaisen äärimetalliyhtye Zed Destructiven esikoisalbumi. Sisältöä sillä on vajaat tunnin verran ja siinä ajassa luodaan paitsi kattava käsitys yhtyeen omaan antiin, myös veisun verran yhtyeen esikuviin.
Pääpiirteittäin Zed Destructive operoi nopeatempoisen modernin deathin ja melodisen black metalin yhdistelmän parissa. Niin kitarasoolot kuin -liiditkin ovat alan standardin mukaisia ja samaa voi sanoa soundeista. Konemaisia rumpusoundeja lukuun ottamatta tuotanto on hyvällä mallilla.
Laulusuoritukset on jaettu perusvarmaan örinään ja standardinmukaiseen rääkynään. Valittamista ei löydy kummaltakaan saralta. Tyylien vuorottelu toimii myös rytmillisesti hyvin.
Yhtyeen visio on myös sävellysmittarilla ihan hyvällä tasolla. Valitettavasti sitä kuuluisaa magiaa ei ole mukana tarpeeksi - yksittäisiä kohtia lukuun laskematta - tehdäkseen levystä varsinaisesti hyvää teosta. Vaikka kokonaisuutta kuuntelee sujuvasti ja tympääntymättä, missään ei varsinaisesti värähdä.
Tässä mielessä Corroded by Darkness onkin varsin tavanomainen väliinputoajadebyytti: ei missään mielessä huono levy, ainoastaan hieman turhan kädenlämpöinen tehdäkseen sen suurempaa vaikutusta.

The Israeli scene is interesting in many different aspects. If you like me is standing on the outside looking in life might seem very one-dimensional in Israel. Never having visited I have no clue what every-day life is like. I don’t think that ZED DESTRUCTIVE will give me any clearer insight in that matter but I do hope that they’ll provide me with a nice musical experience. It might just be me that is a bit damaged but I want my death metal to be either brutal as hell or melodic as fuck. The one in between must be pretty good to catch my attention. This is pretty good stuff but I don’t really feel that it grabs me by the balls the way I want it to. Perhaps this is one of those records that will grow with time.
