“Cursed Acheron” is the song that first brought this album to our attention, and it’s a serious neck-breaker, squealing and jabbing and chugging with murderous intent and moving like a big heavy death metal juggernaut. It’s a dismal and destructive slab of hungering darkness with deliciously cavernous growls, massive grooves, and a slithering, exotic solo that’s mesmerizing.

There’s more killer old school marauding to be found in the song we’re premiering, which combines vicious buzzing riffs that ooze malignancy with massive booming grooves. When the rampaging pace slows, the hammer blows become even more crushing as the lead guitarist perpetrates an eye-opening solo. There’s a classic old-school feel to the song. Drawing upon both European and American antecedents, Dig Me No Grave deliver this well-written track with sure-handed mastery.

This next song is a very pleasant surprise (i.e., a very ugly and brutal surprise) named “Cursed Acheron“. I don’t recall ever hearing this band’s music before, but since their new album is coming from Satanath Records, I made time for the song after receiving a Bandcamp alert about it this morning.

The band is Dig Me No Grave and the members were all born and live in Vologda, Russia. Their debut album Cosmic Cult was released in 2014, and that was followed by several shorter releases. Their new album Immemorial Curse is set for a joint release on June 15th by Satanath, Sevared Records (U.S.), and Wings of Destruction (also Russia).

Краски сгущаются с самого начала. Непродолжительное вступление, прерывающиеся, напряжённые голоса, постепенно усиливающееся напряжение, атмосфера кинематографического саспенса… Полторы минуты – а нужный настрой уже задан. А дальше… а дальше древнее проклятье срабатывает, в результате чего свет дня оскверняется прибытием на бренную землю древних же Чужаков. Пришельцы из мест, куда нет ходу живым (возможно из самого проклятого Ахерона), обрушивают на человечество всю мощь своей лютой злобы, превращая людские угодья в безрадостное поле ритуальной резни… А идеальным звуковым сопровождением этому сводящему с ума действу служит второй полноформатный альбом Dig Me No Grave.

В самом деле, почему бы ему (этому самому сопровождению, то есть) и не быть таковым? Звучание, к примеру, говорит само за себя. Не возьмёмся утверждать, что здесь всё вот прям убийственно тяжело, что звук на альбоме способен обрушить горы, что сама земная кора не выдержит и расколется под воздействием чудовищного звукового напора. Пожалуй, всё-таки нет. Вместе с тем, песни убедительно грузны, в нужной степени неповоротливы и, да простится нам такая формулировка, рокочущи. При этом налицо чёткая читаемость всех вокальных и инструментальных партий, позволяющая без напряжения отличить их одну от другой и создать полное впечатление от прослушивания.

Альбом сдержанно радует всем. В целом - могучим и плотным звучанием (как уже и было написано выше), мрачным угрожающе жужжащим настроем, увесистой басовитостью, хрипло ревущей свирепостью и багряно-огненной визуализацией. А в частном… что ж, пройдёмся в двух словах.

Начнём в этот раз с ритм-секции. Она подкупает своей неспешной основательностью, можно даже сказать, солидностью. Да, по ходу прослушивания угадывается, что барабанщик, скажем, вполне может поливать свинцовым градом из скорострельного агрегата, однако к чему это, когда можно разок шарахнуть из орудия калибром покрупнее, но так, что одним махом семьсот семьдесят семерых побивахом? Вот и здесь такая же история. Никакой спешки. Успевается и погрохотать двойной педалькой, и повколачивать сваи не слишком торопливым (опять же, да-с) бластингом, и вдруг припустить едва ли не галопирующим, этаким «финнтролловским» подпрыгивающим темпом, и снизить затем обороты до предела, чтобы, держа слабо трепыхающегося слушателя когтистой пятернёй за шею, медленно и неумолимо топить того в вязкой звуковой трясине.

Басу в этой невесёлой пьесе, по скромному разумению автора этих строк, отведено место чуть ли не первой скрипки. Превосходство партий бас-гитары над другими ни в коем случае не абсолютно, но угадывается довольно-таки явно, пожалуй, почти столь же могутно звучит разве что голос. Между тем, из общего музыкального полотна бас, почитай, и не выбивается, вполне органично с ним сочетаясь. И вообще, взаимодействие ритм-секции и, к примеру, гитарного риффинга полнейшее, что очень приятно впечатляет.

Этот самый риффинг, надо полагать, со всей возможной положительностью воспримут все ценители музыкальной смерти старой волны. Тут, друзья, в общем-то, классика жанра. Как уже говорилось, басовито жужжащая, скрежещущая такая, «дж-дж»-кающая (уж не обессудьте за подобный неологизм), протяжно завывающая и время от времени злобно взвизгивающая. Вполне себе интересная работа, демонстрирующая умеренную разноплановость (в означенных стилистических рамках, разумеется), помноженную на монолитную целостность.

Так-с, что там у нас осталось?.. Голос, конечно, что ж ещё. Очень приятное впечатление оставил этот самый голос. Вот уж точно, это скорее именно дополнительный инструмент, привносящий в общее звучание ещё большую мощь. Низкий рёв. Обусловленная некоторой сыроватостью записи сложность выявления хотя бы намёка на истинный голосовой тембр. Очень уместное акцентирование фраз дублированием или наложением дополнительных партий (регистром повыше, например), а также раскатистой реверберацией. Могутно и грозно.

Если вдруг остались какие-то сомнения касаемо стилистики материала, мы их сейчас безжалостно развеем. Стопроцентная старая школа, ребята, без-о-го-во-ро-чна-я. Бескомпромиссный, строго выдержанный в жёстких, полуподвальных таких рамках материал. Никаких посторонних примесей. И никаких откровений (коих и не требуется, собственно). Апологеты классических альбомов означенной смертельно-металической ниши как американского, так и европейского образцов наверняка будут довольны.

Итог: железобетонно крепкий, добротный альбом, вряд ли способный удивить (да и созданный совсем не для этого) ни поклонников стиля, ни тем более его противников. Но порадовать – порадует точно, ведь не особенно и много их, старорежимных таких релизов, выпускается на территории нашей необъятной родины. Ещё раз: мрачно, басовито, увесисто, ревуще и багряно-огненно. Всё как надо, словом, за что и спасибо.

El universo Lovecraft es y ha sido siempre una fuerte fuente de inspiración para el Death Metal, aquí os presento otra banda más que profundiza y se funde en estos mundos del señor Howard Philips Lovecraft.

“Immemorial Curse” es el segundo álbum de esta banda rusa afincada en Vologda y nos presenta un estilo que me recuerda mucho a sus compatriotas Grond ya que género y temática van cogidos de la mano.

Dig Me No Grave practican un estilo de Death Metal pesado y algo oscuro influenciado por bandas como podrían ser Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Bloodbath, Facebreaker, etc, pero también se aprecian pinceladas yankis tipo Morbid Angel, Monstrosity, etc. Death Metal Old School sin ir más lejos.

Lo primero que llama la atención es el buen sonido del álbum, muy logrado, con unas guitarras potentes que llevan las composiciones a buen puerto ya que son ricas y variadas, muchos medios tiempos aquí y allá con riffs de los que hacen moverte, los que no te importa escuchar otras tantas veces como sea posible ya que la música está muy bien ejecutada y se nota que está hecha con buen gusto y sabiendo lo que es el género en cuestión.

Para nada es una banda innovadora que traiga elementos nuevos, qué va! Death Metal clásico inspirado totalmente en la vieja escuela, en definitiva este disco pasa sobradamente de la media ya que es un muy buen trabajo, el único “pero” es que tenemos bandas en esa línea para aburrir ya que hay cientos de bandas que lo hacen tan bien como ellos y con tantísima saturación musical como tenemos hoy día es un disco que pasará a la historia con más pena que gloria.

El lo que tenemos en la actualidad, millares de bandas así, pero oye, siempre es de agradecer escuchar lo auténtico entre tanta mierda moderna como encontramos en la actualidad.

El disco dura 35 minutos en una tirada de 500 copias entre tres sellos. La portada como estaréis comprobando está cojonuda, así que nada más que decir, si queréis disfrutar de un buen disco afincado en el auténtico Death Metal, este no debería de pasar desapercibido, realmente vale la pena!

Il buon DEATH METAL old school! La Satanath Records ci delizia con queste chicche e ci propone i Dig Me No Grave, una band originaria di Vologda, ridente cittadina sulle sponde del Lago Kubenskoe nel nord ovest della Russia. L'opera, intitolata “Immemorial Curse” si compone di dieci brani per una durata di poco meno di 35 minuti e ti assicuro caro lettore... decisamente intensi.

“The Curse (Intro)”: si inizia con una preghiera, una richiesta di soccorso, si fa riferimento ad una maledizione, l'elemento centrale di questo concept...

“Ritual Slaughter”: ritmo tambureggiante, l'ascoltatore viene immerso in uno schiacciasassi. I ritmi non sono esageratamente frenetici, la voce è cavernosa ma un po' monocorde e non cambia mai, le chitarre danno il loro apporto in termini di compattezza e come del resto il basso che comunque a sprazzi si sente abbastanza nitidamente. Sul finire del brano troviamo un assolo non particolarmente riuscito.

“Initiation to Afterlife Disciplines”: inizia il basso, e già mi piace. Il brano è bello pesante, non veloce ma un monolite Death Metal, si avvertono il peso della batteria che sembra una contraerea. Alexey Rumyantsev, il cantante, riesce di poco ad essere più vario di prima: apprezziamo l'impegno.

“Cursed Acheron”: più si va avanti nelle tracce più le armi a disposizione del combo russo diventano sempre più affilate. Questo brano è letteralmente un macina carne, di una profondità enorme, il suono è strutturato e vario. Un pezzo davvero interessante, un piacere da ascoltare, l'assolo di chitarra è pregevole: non un'opera d'arte, ma direi stupefacente.

“Dig Me No Grave”: una mazzata sui denti accoglie l'ascoltatore che, ignaro, si presenta al cospetto del quinto capitolo dell'opera. Ammetto che, a mio gusto, questo brano anche se bello carico di astio e potenza, non mi ha entusiasmato: l'ho trovato un po' monotono e l'assolo di chitarra non mi ha fatto saltare dalla sedia.

“The Call of the Witch”: i musicisti si devono essere accorti del piattume del brano precedente, perché questa traccia risulta sotto tutti i punti di vista decisamente più "viva", palpitante, addirittura il ritornello assume una sua melodicità, sicuramente aspetto desueto in campo Death Metal. Davvero un ottimo brano che, come tutte le cose belle, dura poco: tolta l'introduzione è il brano più corto dell' album.

“Ancient Aliens”: un bel noise di chitarra seguito dai colpi di batteria aprono il sesto capitolo dell'opera. Un sound pieno e rotondo, brano non troppo lungo ma decisamente granitico.

“Monument to Violence”: già il titolo mi intriga, oscuro e malsano. Il brano parte, poi il ritmo rallenta per poi ripartire, nessuna velocità ma quella pesantezza claustrofobica che accompagna l'ascoltatore durante tutto l'ascolto. Una traccia decisamente difforme dai soliti schemi del Death classico, dove il growl si mischia con lo scream, le chitarre non sono a sega circolare ma rotonde e corpose ed a metà pezzo i ritmi si fermano, per lasciare spazio ad un assolo. Ben strutturato e dinamico un brano che risulta essere la punta di diamante del disco, a parere mio.

“I See Them!”: batteria cannoneggiante e noise di chitarre ad aprire il penultimo brano del cd. Qui troviamo anche una buona velocità di esecuzione mai espressa appieno da Anatoliy Schenikov, batterista della band, mentre le chitarre serrano i ranghi e contribuiscono a creare un muro sonoro invalicabile.

“Edge of Eternity”: ultima traccia del disco, ritmo cadenzato fino a circa un minuto e mezzo poi il sound si modifica e diventa decisamente strutturato, dinamico, vario ed un assolo di basso ci prende tra capo e collo. Batteria e chitarre si stringono e come risultato abbiamo un sound imperioso e traboccante di ferocia.

Vi dico subito, cari lettori, cosa non mi è piaciuto di questo album: sicuramente la voce sempre troppo uguale. Ok, voi direte, è Death Metal, che altra caspita di voce vuoi fare??? Io Vi risponderei che il buon Alexey dovrebbe fare qualche sforzo in più per rendere il suo vocalizzo meno monocorde ed in effetti, in paio di brani, c'è anche riuscito, quindi i mezzi li ha, come si diceva a scuola “è intelligente ma non si impegna a fondo”. La produzione è ottima, ben curata, ogni strumento ha la propria nicchia da cui si eleva quando chiamato in causa. Tecnicamente il combo russo si esprime davvero bene, ogni brano risulta diverso dall'altro, per nulla monotono. Questo cd si ascolta con goduria fino alla fine, comunque quello che mi ha stupito è anche il fatto di non ricercare la velocità e la violenza ma la necessità di creare un disco potente e ben architettato. Detto questo, dal punto di vista del songwriting, i Dig Me No Grave non insegnano nulla, ovviamente, ma si ritagliano uno spazio tra quei gruppi che possono essere apprezzati anche dai non puristi del Death Metal, davvero un'ottima scoperta!!! Diretamente da Rússia, este quinteto destruidor lança o mais recente disco “Immemorial Curse” , o segundo da carreira, e alcança um novo patamar de brutalidade e destreza instrumental. A meu ver, o seu som consegue mesclar a abissal técnica de um Immolation com a enfatizante “burduada” de um Belphegor. Em outras palavras, é uma obra sem igual.

Os caras apostam em um Death Metal completamente moldado na forma “não comercial”, ao contrário de um Morbid Angel, e se destacam exatamente neste quesito. Aqui, temos guitarras massacrantes e incisivas, e um vocal “à la Ross Dolan” da melhor qualidade.

Este disco é exatamente para ser apreciado em cada segundo de sua duração. Os que apreciaram a fase recente do Sinister e se identificaram com o som, com certeza irão ficar extasiados com esse trabalho fenomenal. Mais do que recomendado !!!

Ultimamente Satanath Records sta azzeccando un sacco di gruppi veramente gustosi. L’etichetta sovietica riesce incredibilmente a riuscire a coniugare una quantità abbondante di nuove uscite ad una buonissima qualità generale, con poche cadute di stile (di cui non mi va manco di parlare). Nella partizione death metal di tale scuderia si sono già fatti notare i Verthebral (ne ho parlato nella mia vita precedente) col loro esordio rigenerante e adesso i Dig Me No Grave arrivano al secondo album.

È un moniker insolito, poco violento sulle prime. Il loro vagito di debutto era ottimo e ammorbante al punto giusto, copertina vaginal-lovecraftiana compresa. Immemorial Curse rallenta un po’ i ritmi e semplifica la stratificazione di chitarra, ma aumenta le idee e le variazioni che possono rendere interessante e ascoltabile più volte un disco come questo. Si tratta sempre di death metal incandescente, riff sodi ben saldi al centro della scena, la voce è meno Chris Barnes del passato, anche se un briciolo dell’attitudine dei Six Feet Under rimane in Cursed Acheron e in qualche altro passaggio scapoccione e tamarro. Per il resto come atmosfera siamo dalle parti di Sinister e in parte minore Morbid Angel, con una produzione grossa, ma non appiccicosa come quella del predecessore, più secca e nitida. Non vogliamo piatti gourmet, solo dei grassi cheeseburger in salsa russa. Che è molto, molto piccante. Mi ha ricordato, nella sua efficacia infernale, i tarantini Stige e il loro ormai datato Skar(N)ification: come è universale il metal!

Heavy, meaty, chunky death metal. Modern in feel, but retro in vibe, I’m thinking bands like Ceremonium and Krabathor, possibly God Macabre or Depravity even – that sort of thick tone and strong if a bit too much in the red zone production, those sort of deep, throaty belch-vomit vox…that general vibe overall.

There are hints of doominess and a definite catchiness to all the riffing and suchlike, though they never trip the lines into doom/death or melodeath, and solos appear to be entirely absent – this is more of a Morta Skuldesque “riffs are all!” affair.

I was very comfortable and content with this one – some damn good death metal, particularly given its recent vintage.

Get the fuck out there and pick up a copy, already.

Dig Me No Grave are a band from Russia that plays a very old school form of death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Immemorial Curse" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath, Sevared Records and Wings Of Destruction.

Spoken word parts start off the album along with some horror movie samples before going into a faster direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and after awhile death metal growls start to make their presence known.

Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's while all of the musical instruments sound very powerful and the solos and leads also remain true to a very old school style and while the music is mostly influenced by the past it still maintains a very modern atmosphere and all of the songs stick to a heavier direction.

Dig Me No Grave creates another recording that remains true to the old school style of death metal from previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Lovecraft themes.

In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dig Me No Grave and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album.

Тот самый, мать его, живой звук: плотный, жирный… жЫрный звук гитар; низкая ухающая бочка, “грудной” бас, утробный вокал. Что мне нравится в этой группе, так это то, что, сделав отличный саунд, они оставляют толику сырой первобытности death metal, не вычищая до блеска аки яйца кота. При этом все членораздельно до безобразия, ну, в хорошем смысле. Доминанты альбома – гитары и вокал. Соляки на гитаре просто потрясные. Кроме содержимого стоит отметить также и оформление: дигипак (цвета и арт мне напоминают мой любимый Therion – Symphony Masses) с буклетом, а в нагрузку куча дополнительных артов и фоток группы. Просто вкусняшка, и обязательный мастхев для всех любителей классического размеренного death metal.

One look at the Russian band Dig Me No Grave’s new album cover was enough for me to know what I was going to get straight in my face: old school death metal. Take a look at that cover! A hooded guy in a tomb surrounded by the corpses of kings who’s just realised he’s fucked ’cause he managed to summon the fallen angel. It is beautiful. Instantly wound its way into my heart.

Then I checked the titles of the tracks… I was more than sure that ‘Immemorial Curse’ was going to be super-moreish fun to listen to!

The album starts with an intro which – and I am going to be honest – I wanted to skip but just because I was ready for the slaughter. To the ‘Ritual Slaughter’… As soon as the album starts, anyone can hear that it’s not the debut of Dig Me No Grave. It starts how a death metal album should start: tearing the flesh from your bones. Then the distorted bass line in ‘Initiation To Afterlife Disciplines’ starts a grinding machine and they throw your skeletal remains there. The slower part of the song made me headbang in my chair with an angry face and I stayed in an angry-faced-headbanging state until the end of the album. Although there were moments when the guitars made me want to throw the chair out the window. In a good way…

‘Immemorial Curse’ is a solid, old-school death metal album and it doesn’t want to be anything else. No bullshit here. No complicated parts. No melodies. Just pure death. The sound is perfect.

I have to mention Aleksey Rumyantsev’s vocals. Sometimes death metal vocalists don’t really satisfy me. The music is good, but the vocalist pulls the whole effort back. Now, with Aleksey this is not a problem. His vocal chords are rotten; his throat is putrid.

Obviously in 2017 no one will drop something really new and fresh in this genre, but as I said, this is a solid album. If you like the decayed sound of the 90s, and you think camo shorts and patched denim vests are cool (they are fucking cool) then you should get ‘Immemorial Curse’. ASAP.

Por vezes é bom simplificarmos as coisas e simplesmente pegarmos no bom e velho death metal e despejarmos nele todos os conceitos místicos que Lovecraft nos deixou. Ou pelo menos é isso que os russos Dig Me No Grave fazem neste seu segundo trabalho. Alguém menos apaixonado pelo género poderá dizer que estamos perante uma proposta mais banal mas isso seria não atender ao poder de malhões de cariz clássico como "Cursed Acheron" e "Ancient Aliens". Ainda assim compreendos que no final se possa sentir que perante toda a concorrência, o poder de fogo demonstrado seja inferior. Por esse motivo recomendamos dobrar as audições que serão prazeirosas.

Their countrymates "Dig Me No Grave" are also fine musicians, but their album "Immemorial Curse" didn't satisfied expectations I had. Band crew certainly knows how to make some hellish riffs and a couple of songs here are very good, mainly because of the guitar solo parts. On the other hand, during the listening, I always felt that something was missing: it's like your favorite dish, but without the key spice in it. Anyway, I am sure that death metal fanatics will enjoy listening to this release.

La band Dig Me No Grave è nata nel 2010 in Russia, nella città di Vologdà, dalle ceneri di due gruppi Thrash Metal, cominciando a suonare un Death Metal vecchio stampo, con i testi ispirati alle opere di H.P. Lovecraft ed i suoi seguaci. La line-up della band ha subito delle variazioni in quanto riguarda il basso, ma soltanto fino al 2014, quando la formazione si è stabilizzata in modo definitivo. I Dig Me No Grave hanno all’attivo 2 single, 2 EP, uno split realizzato insieme ai Sanheim e due full-length Cosmic Cult (2014) ed Imemorial Curse (2017).

Quest’ultimo risulta essere un po’ insolito, meno brutale rispetto al primo full-length, e con una produzione meno appicicosa e nitida, con “tanto grasso che cola”, rimanendo sempre nei limiti dello stile con un sound incandescente, ottimo ed ammorbante, come avrebbe detto un professionista in materia di registrazione e mix/mastering. Le chitarre sono molto più semplici ma sempre efficienti e belle salde, i ritmi sono molto più lenti ma sodi, ed il basso è molto più pigro ma allo stesso tempo profondo. Tutto ciò è compensato da una composizione parecchio variata dei brani, con tanti passaggi e variazioni innovative che rendono questo disco molto orecchiabile e mai noioso durante l’ascolto. La voce ricorda un po’ i Cannibal Corpse, anche se un po’ più aggressivi e più robusti ed per quanto riguarda le sonorità possiamo notare una assomiglianza con delle band come Morbid Angel, come Sinister e come i nostrani Osseltion, ma tutto nel limite di un ottimo Old School Death Metal. Nonostante la presenza di momenti più tamarri e casinisti, sono riusciti a portare qualcosa di proprio e di lasciare un’impronta personale nella scena mondiale del Death metal, con delle idee sempre fresche ed un’efficacia infernale, regalando ai suoi ascoltatori fedeli dei brani sempre all’ altezza del proprio nome e dello stile, dove raccontano le follie dell’essere umano nelle sue forme più macabre ed assurde, con le sue paure latenti che evocano dei mali ancestrali attraverso i simboli del suo inconscio, con dei pensieri inquetanti per quanto riguarda la morte e le sue conseguenze inaccurate ed accondiscendenti. Tutto esposto in una maniera blasfema, mostruosa ed allo stesso tempo onirica e mistica, in modo da far sentire la razza umana insignificante ed impotente in balia di un universo meccanico e privo di ogni riferimento spirituale. Nonostante sono soltanto al secondo full-length, i Dig Me No Grave hanno dimostrato con quest’album una maturità precoce nella composizione e nei arrangiamenti, ed una buona capacità di solving nelle atmosfere e sonorità dei loro brani, regalando delle belle soddisfazioni ed emozioni al pubblico fedele di questo stile arido e brutale come la furia assassina di una tempesta di sabbia nel deserto, riuscendo a sorprendere e regalarci dei prodotti solidi e molto promettenti. Insomma possiamo dire che la Satanath ha azzeccato questa sua scelta e nell’ attesa di nuove notizie non possiamo fare altro che goderci con sete e “VIOLENZA” quest’ottimo album.

DIG ME NO GRAVE are mid-tempo death metal. There used to be a time when I would have slagged off anything as slow as this but then I had an epiphany. So nowadays I don’t have any issues with slow to mid-tempo death metal. How could I when one of the greatest death metal album is a slow one; “Slowly We Rot”. And that is basically what DIG ME NO GRAVE reminds me of; Obituary. If you have issues with death metal that is anything but 200bms all the time you ought to stay away from this. If you like me like it a bit heavier and with an old school feel to it you too will like this new album.

Dig Me No Grave comes from Vologda area in Russia. The band was founded in 2010 on the ashes of couple of earlier death and thrash metal projects in which the members played.

This is their second studio full length album. The album consists of intro plus nine tracks of death metal with a lot of thrash influences that can be heard throughout the song structures. The lyrics are in English and the themes are occult(“The Call of the Witch”), aliens(“Ancient Aliens”) and some personal demons and life after death(“Edge of Eternity”)…The music is not so fast like I am used from many technical ultrablasting death metal bands. It is rather creepy and drums with guitars are crawling like being stuck in the mud before drums and guitars turn into all out war tearing apart the listener with shredding riffs and guttural, brutal vocals. Need I remind that the musicianship on this record is really tight like one could expect from death metal band. You just cant play death metal and be a lousy musician, that is not possible. This is a decent death metal band and a decent album.

How low can you go? Deze gasten uit Rusland weten daar wel raad mee! Ultra old school death metal zonder poeha. De übervette productie draagt hier zeker een steentje aan bij. Dit vijftal beheerst de klassieke techniek der death metal in de puntjes. Old school blastbeats, melodie (een beetje, niet veel) en bovenal stampende, no nonsens metal. Mid tempo is wederom de overduidelijke drive op deze tweede full lenght van Dig Me No Grave, en holy shit wat is lekker! Deze plaat is verre van een oubollige wannabee deathmetal schijf. De productie geeft de band lekker veel ruimte, daardoor klinkt het geheel fris en levendig (en dat voor een death metal band). Check dit uit als een dikke deathmetal groove je ochtendkoffie compleet maakt!

Уже писал про DIG ME NO GRAVE, про их альбом 14 -го года, тоже выходил на Satanath Records.

А потом сделал интервью с командой - «Дэтстерам сюда! DIG ME NO GRAVE. Металл тягучий, полный подводных чудовищ и надземных монстров», которое распубликовал где только можно.

Так что информация про вологодских исследователей отдельных аспектов творчества Лавкрафта имеется. А сейчас про альбом 17-го года, под названием Immemorial Curse.

До меня по стальным дорогам Почты России добрался целый четырехпанельный дигипак, мрачный, как и полагается и одновременно вдохновляющий. 12-страничный буклет приложен, можно найти там тексты. А они понадобятся... одно только возражение. Шрифт. Не обязательно таким шрифтом давать большие массивы инфы. Да и вообще — неразборчивый он.

А вот звук — наоборот, - вполне на уровне. С этого и начну, заявлю, что группа соорудила вместе с звукоинженером порядочный саунд, что в стиле дэт металл очень важно для восприятия. И мне даже показалось, что вольно или невольно звук получился олдовый, под старину, или в олдовом комплексе «музыка + звук». В итоге — добротное, с хорошим динамическим диапазоном звучание, которое дает о себе знать с настоящего компакта. Что там будет с мпз — не ведаю.

DIG ME NO GRAVE продолжает свое смертельные дело - извлекать из электрических розеток дэт металл собственного разлива, покроя и обособленной тематики. Это музыкальный материал будто бы спрессованный по звуку, и иногда даже кажется, что гитарист отстраивал свой инструмент для звучания, похожего на пролет истребителя.

Еще замечаю, что, как и ранее, этот ВИА исследует этот мир замедленными эскападами. И даже устремляясь к дэт-думу в отдельных партиях. Это позволяет решать несколько задач. От создания максимально напористых акцентированных прогонов с собственным тракторно-идиллическим впечатлением - см центр и далее компо «Cursed acheron».

Или в начале трака «The Call Of The Witch», где оставалось еще сделать немного шагов, чтобы медленно падать в бездонную думовую пропасть. Тут формируется «мидтемпо и медленнее» окровавленные куски словно бы нарочито выставленные на обозрение для соответствующего эффекта. И он есть - естественно.

Когда же композер задает более быстрые задачи, то музыканты решают в сторону тотального рубилова и внятного риффинга. Всенепременно выдавая энергетические клубы ядовитой мизантропии и давящей атмосферы применения удушающих газов. И маневры ритм-секции тут играют чудовищно важную роль. Эти двое договорились валить музло так, чтобы максимально давать по низам, строить своеобразные магистрали в подземное и подводное царства, разрабатывать технологии адовой подачи, особливо на концертах.

Мне показалось, что к этому альбому вокалист стал больше включать эмоционального гроула, а может просто художественный совет группы так порешал. Хотя в определенных местах вокалист все так же работает в своем фирменном холодном, замерзающем стиле, намеренно отстраненном и прожигающем морозные дыры в громкоговорителях и колонках.

На самом деле очень приятно осознавать, что дэт-металлическая сцена Руси, многообразна, полифактурна по тематике лирики и как то чудовище - «обло, озорно, огромно, стозевно и лаяй». Как вы помните, это эпиграф к книге Александра Радищева «Путешествие из Петербурга в Москву на дэт-металлический концерт».

Una intro recitata, quasi un dialogo da film horror (che effettivamente lo sia?) apre le danze per il secondo album dei Russi Dig Me To Grave. Naturalmente si parla di black marcio, qui per giunta guarnito da influenze black ‘n’ Roll… Se ascolterete l’album sarò come leggere il Bignami del black metal, una sorta di enciclopedia concentrata dove ogni singolo argomento non viene mai trattato nello specifico, eppure un rimando qua o là ci sarà sempre. Ecco allora che in certi passaggi si sente l’aura di Vincent dei Morbid Angel, poi si passa al black di matrice più norvegese. Avanti poi con dei ritmi più sincopati, quasi thrasheggianti. Il tutto condito da una produzione che sembra sputare fuori il disco direttamente dagli anni ‘80, pastoso e molto poco definito. Alcuni passaggi di basso sono quasi cacofonici ma devo dire che sicuramente tale scelta è stata fatta di proposito, quasi a sottolineare la crepuscolarità di certi passaggi vicini al primo death svedese. Purtroppo cotanta varietà non è supportata adeguatamente da altrettanta creatività e personalità. Ecco quindi che se leggete il Bignami de “I Promessi Sposi” capirete all’incirca il senso del romanzo storico pur non potendo apprezzare l’opera nella sua interezza. Ecco, ascoltando questi russi avrete un’idea del black senza averlo però compreso fino in fondo. La prossima volta voglio più carisma, punto.

Эта группа из Вологды, чьё название можно перевести, как “не рой мне яму”, по праву считается одним из сильнейших дэтовых коллективов олдскульного толка, обретающихся на постсоветском пространстве. Для того, чтобы выделиться из сонма коллег, ребята с самого начала позвали к себе состав лавкрафтовского Ктулху, и он с удовольствием принял предложение музыкантов, стал их маскотом и по сей день не устаёт покровительствовать команде, которая сейчас представляет нам свой второй полноформатник.

В это достаточно трудно поверить, но “Immemorial Curse” действительно является всего лишь вторым лонгплеем Dig Me No Grave – “From Past Aeons” представлял из себя переизданные демки, а концертный EP и вовсе не в счёт. Так что же наработали за три долгих года эти любители ужасов и морских чудищ? Начнём с того, что диск издан в стильном четырёхполосном дигипаке с неплохим буклетом и атмосферным артом, а внутри нас приветствует отличный арт-винегрет из чёрно-белых концертных снимков. Коллекционная ценность: +5.

Немного сумбурное интро открывает этот лаконичный 35-минутыный релиз, а затем мы слышим в точности тот “древний дэт-метал”, за который однажды и полюбили капеллу. Грозный вокал, внятные гитарные риффы, общий достаточно консервативный настрой, и какая-то схематичная ясность делают песни команды практически архетипами первозданного экстрим-металла. Кстати говоря, открывающая диск “Ritual Slaughter” не показалась мне таким уж бесспорным хитом, скорее наоборот оставила ощущение довольно слабой для уровня Dig Me No Grave композиции.

Я даже был уже почти готов разочароваться и громко возопить о том, что кумиры сдулись, но в третьем номере под названием “Initiation Afterlife” бригада ностальгирующих трэш-дэтстеров вовремя взялась за ум и начала нарезать действительно интересные и изобретательные пассажи. Красивое соло, чёткий риффинг, умеренное использование рычага – всё здесь как надо и на своих местах, хотя общее ощущение от музыки напоминает, как мне кажется, скорее классический хэви-метал в духе Judas Priest. И заметьте: это не минус, это просто особенность общего саунда.

Немного жаль, что таких эпичных песен, как “Monument To Violence” и “Edge Of Eternity” на диске не так уж и много, а скромная продолжительность (особенно за вычетом intro) заставляет снова и снова жать на “repeat”. Конечно, можно кивнуть на то, что здесь важна, прежде всего, атмосфера, и необходимо настроиться на нужную волну и в таком случае диск будет восприниматься целостно, а ощущения провисания в отдельных треках возникать не будет. Всё справедливо. Так и есть. Но включив наугад “From Past Aeons” для сравнения, я тут же добавил: однако не только в этом дело.

Я думаю, что “Immemorial Curse” хорош, но не идеален. Команда уровня Dig Me No Grave за три года кропотливой работы могла бы нарулить что-то более блистательное. Возможно, я слишком многого от них ждал, возможно, “Cosmic Cult” показался мне сильнее в силу своей свежести и новизны – в любом случае я не собираюсь принижать заслуги группы и с полным на то основанием констатирую, что сейчас перед нами одна из лучших дэтовых пластинок, созданных в России в 2017 году, наряду с дисками Warder, Gutted Bride и Verminious Mind, ну а презентабельный вид данного CD на самом деле просто не оставляет нам шансов: надо брать. Dig Me No Grave melden sich zurück. 7 Jahre nach ihrer Gründung und 2 Jahre nach dem letzten Lebenszeichen, der EP „Unholy Worship“ hauen die Russen mit „Immemorial Curse“ ihr zweites Album raus, das den eingeschlagenen Weg, den die Band als Ancient Death Metal bezeichnet, konsequent weitergeht.

Bei Dig Me No Grave trifft H.P. Lovecraft auf klassischen Death Metal, der ziemlich rumpelig daher kommt. Schwere, wuchtige Riffs treffen auf Midtempo-Drums und dicken Bass, dazu gesellen sich die tiefen, monströsen Growls von Chef-Grunzer Alexey. Dabei schaffen es die Jungs den klassischen Death Metal zum einen durch einige Moderne Einflüsse interessant und frisch zu halten, aber auch gleichzeitig den Einstieg durch ziemlich sperrige Momente zu erschweren. Das hat nichts mit Progressivität zu tun, sondern liegt häufig an zusammengewürfelten Übergängen und fiesen Riffs, die leicht fehl am Platz wirken. Die Momente halten sich aber zum Glück derart in Grenzen, dass sie die ziemlich guten Songs nicht mit einem allzu bitteren Beigeschmack überlagern und so lassen sich die tief dröhnenden, mal aggressiv mal fast schon melodischen Walzen der Band trotzdem genießen. Sowohl der mit Stakkato-Riffs versehene Song „Ritual Slaughter“ oder das stur nach vorne knüppelnde „Dig Me No Grave“ sorgen für verzücktes Mitnicken und auch der sich langsam vorandrückende Rausschmeißer „Edge of Eternity“ können überzeugen und die Herzen der Death Metal-Enthusiasten höher schlagen lassen, die bei dem Album ziemlich puren Death Metal erwarten können, der ordentlich runtergeschrammelt wird und hier und da kleinere Überraschungen bereit hält ohne sich vom Grundsound zu entfernen.

Klassische Death Metal-Freunde, die zudem auf den Altmeister Lovecraft abfahren, dürften sich bei dem Album gleich doppelt freuen, denn hier erwartet sie ihre beiden liebsten Dinge auf der Welt, die in ordentlicher Manier präsentiert werden und trotz Abzügen in der B-Note überzeugen können. Dig Me No Grave setzen auf „Immemorial Curse“ auf altbekanntes und setzen das gut in Szene.

I enjoyed this Russian group's debut Cosmic Cult enough that I periodically checked in on them to see what was cooking, but Immemorial Curse seems to have quietly snuck by me, as I figured I would have noticed its release by now. Better late than never, especially since Dig Me No Grave are still peddling the same brand of Tucker-era Morbid Angel filthy, lugubrious and deliberate death metal. Littered with staggered, quirky grooves and serpentine, murky tremolos, the album continues where the last one left off, perhaps even expounding on the blackened formulae somewhat. It is generally mired in that upper-mid paced crushing gait, littered with injections of cyclical blasting, all tethered to some sort of abstract gravitational pull downward.

The Lovecraftian subject matter continues to define Dig Me No Grave's subject matter, giving their identity further foothold, even if it is hardly anything novel in the genre. The album sticks around a Bolt Thrower mid-paced level, taking advantage of the excellent production values, which sound gritty and not at all overdone. The drums especially have a very live sound to them, and the guitars a rabid, soiled girth to their corpulent swells of distortion. It simply excels given the riffing style, which is obtuse and Azagthothian in its delivery, complete with incoherent, Martian lead work and abstract soloing.

Better cuts include the thick, pounding armament of de facto opener "Ritual Slaughter" and the band's eponymous cut, which thrashes and busts out chunky, off-kilter grooves ad nauseam. If any true complaint can be levied against Dig Me No Grave, it is that the middle of the album tends to blur together somewhat before picking up near the very end. Of course, nothing truly strays outside of the band's comfort zone, promising at least some consistent level of quality - but I couldn't help but find some of the songs forgettable in light of what bookends them (especially the opener). "I See Them!" does stand out near the end of the procession, though.

Immemorial Curse is certainly on par with its predecessor, if not a small improvement overall. For some, the overt transposition of influences might be a bit too black-and-white to be fully embraced, but I have no problem with this if it is executed with some level of panache, and Dig Me No Grave certainly deliver what I expected of them.

I Dig Me No Grave nascono nel 2010, quando tutti i membri all’interno della line-up decidono di sciogliere i loro rispettivi progetti per concentrarsi su una sola band.

Partecipano fin da subito a svariati festival russi e, dopo aver pubblicato una Demo, si rintanano in studio per registrare il loro debut: “Cosmic Cult”. Al disco si susseguirono diversi concerti e dopo 3 anni, abbiamo la seconda parte della loro carriera: “Immemorial Curse”.

Sin dal suo incipit capiamo che il disco sarà brutale e senza fronzoli: “Ritual Slaughter”, che parte dopo una Intro tratta da un film Horror, è una canzone che rimanda subito ai classici Cannibal Corpse, quelli dell’era di “Tomb of the Mutilated” per intenderci. La successiva “Initiation to Afterlife Disciplines” continua su questi canoni con una aggiunta di Doom, che non fa mai male.

Il disco continua seguendo questi precisi canoni per tutto il resto della tracklist, con qualche piccola digressione su generi altrettanto estremi, come il Thrash o il Black, senza particolari guizzi compositivi o sperimentazioni. Voi direte: “è un difetto questo!”, ma vista la durata totale del disco, non lo è affatto! Anzi, quei 34 minuti totali non stancano per nulla, ma fanno venir voglia di premere nuovamente play una volta finito il disco.

“Immemorial Curse” è il disco di cui tutti i fan dei “vecchi” Cannibal Corpse hanno bisogno: un disco veloce, grezzo e violento, che apre la mente alle più brutali e “goreggianti” immagini che la mente stessa possa partorire. Certo, qualche innovazione compositiva o sperimentazione non avrebbero guastato, ma come detto prima, la durata totale non fa assolutamente pesare queste mancanze.

H.P. Lovecraft! How many extreme metal bands took inspirations for their lyrics from the raving imagination of that solitary man? An endless bunch, you know, and the nice thing is that many other new bands continue to evocate untiringly the Ancient Ones and their cosmos full of unspeakable abominations ready to swallow your useless mortal bodies until to destroy your own souls. Well, Dig Me No Grave, from Russia with hate, are one of the new Lovecraft's worshippers. But they are new for me because I didn't know anything about them until few days ago. In fact, we are talking about a band that plays since 2009 releasing, for the moment, two albums from 2014 to 2017, and the last of them is the here reviewed "Immemorial Curse", edited by the prolific Russian label Satanath Records along with the US Sevared Records and the Russian Wings of Destruction.

Taken their moniker from the tale with the same name written by Robert E. Howard where he mentioned Yog-Sothoth, Dig Me No Grave dubs their music as "Ancient Death Metal", and the adjective "ancient" is to be intended in EVERY sense, not only for the lyrical inspirations but also musically speaking. In fact, this Russian quintet plays a death metal in an old-school way (the only TRUE way, to speak the truth) characterized by a generally simple approach, the classic Floridian growls of the singer Alexey Rumyantsev, some guitar solos here and there able to transmit a bit of rotting atmosphere, and by a very good drummer named Anatoly Schenikov that ranges from (occasional) blast-beats to doom tempos embraced by a slighty dark aura and from some thrashing patterns to more complex passages, in order to offer a nice dynamicity. Judging by all these features, I should say that they are good enough to satisfy every death metal maniac to the bone. But instead...

...but instead, there's something not so convincing throughout the album, in my opinion. Ok, the music is technically good and everything is at its right place, including a slightly clean production, but the main problem is that the songs aren't so intense since they aren't really violent and brutal. I have to say that there are many (too?) mid-tempos here, especially in a song called "Monument to Violence" that is completely focused, despite its title, on a mid-tempo oriented approach. So, it isn't a case if that my favorite number is the most brutal one (if compared with the other tracks, at least), that is "I See Them!", that is even the most complex number of the entire album, thanks also to a drummer really on fire.

Reading some reviews about "Immemorial Curse" on the Internet, I read only good responses but I think that it is only sufficient and that's it. So, the following are my suggestions to the band for the future productions to come: make more brutal your music and combine all this violence with more complex passages, also to let to the drummer Anatoly (maybe the real point of force of Dig Me No Grave) to unleash completely his stunning imagination to create interesting patterns, an ability now expressed only during few moments. For the rest, I imagine that Chtulhu approves all these death metal abominations!

The flawless and evil digipack packaging and amazing cover art by Alexander Tartsus alone would be enough for this one to earn at least 9 SKULLS but when you add on the explosive Death Metal carnage blasted forth with power and rage by DIG ME NO GRAVE you have a near perfect combination of music and art. Heavily influenced by Lovecraftian imagery, Immemorial Curse is an atmospheric and crushing exploration of the frailty of human life and the horrors that lay just beyond the veil of death. Tracks like "Ritual Slaughter", "The Call of the Witch" and "Edge of Eternity" will have you hanging on for dear life as DIG ME NO GRAVE pile on blasting riffs, punishing drum attacks and harrowing vocal assaults like shovelfuls of dirt on your coffin. These Russian madmen also manage to vary the pace just enough to keep you off guard and blissfully unprepared for the ultimate deathblow. Essential stuff!

Russia is a country known for a lot of things. While Death Metal might not be first on that list I know quite a bunch of great Russian Metal acts like Distant Sun or Shadow Host playing some fine Power Metal.

Dig Me No Grave remind me a bit of their (meanwhile defunct) countrymen Grond who used to play a similar kind of Old School Death Metal influenced by the Swedish greats mixed with the precision and heaviness of the US heroes of the nineties.

Making music together since 2010 the guys released a bunch of demos, splits and EPs. In 2014 their full length debut “Cosmic Cult” saw the light of day and got some favorable reviews. I myself have not checked out this one but might catch up on it as I really liked what I heard on “Immemorial Curse”.

A lot of bands are calling themselves Old School these days but Dig Me No Grave have a very distinct sound all of their own that feels like it has been recorded in some long forgotten tomb. The rumbling drums have this powerful and steely bite giving the whole music an additional layer of aggression. We are used to distorted guitars and this element can also be found here. However, this is not your typical “HM2 on standard DM” setting. While it sounds rotten and putrid as well I would compare that tone more to Morbid Angel etc. in their beginning days but with a much more powerful production.

The sound of the bass is quirky and moody and adds to the overall atmosphere. That kind of instrumental groundwork asks for fitting vocals and I am happy to tell that “Immemorial Curse” delivers on that front as well. Very low pitched and growly as hell they sound as some beasts roaring from deep down below.

Songwriting is probably the most important factor when judging a record and Dig Me No Grave played it safe in that regard. They mostly stick to the mid-tempo with occasional eruptions of speed and blast-beats. There are a lot of those groovy and moody passages that made bands like Bolt Thrower famous providing for some extra intensity. In my books Dig Me No Grave shine the most in these moments.

The production is very filthy and raw but makes use of the modern technics to bring out the best of each instrument. I am no expert but I can imagine that it is pretty difficult to get the balance right between the dirtiness needed without burying any details of the music.

There is nothing earth-shattering new about “Immemorial Curse” but the execution is pretty flawless. In the end this is an album full of pure Death Metal intensity – not much more but surely nothing less. For me this is one of the best traditional DM releases of the past few years and an album to which I am going to return to for a number of additional listens.

I wasn't too impressed with this band's From the Past Aeons demo that was reissued in 2016 with two live bonus tracks. Immemorial Curse was released in 2017 as a joint venture of three different labels: Satanath Records and Wings of Destruction from Russia, and Sevared Records from the USA. These Russians' murky, dead-limb-heavy and relatively simple old school Death Metal often reminds me of Six Feet Under, mixed with some bits of Rigor Mortis' (before they became Immolation) early stuff. This stuff grew a bit old for me very quickly, unfortunately. I found it hard to get any type of grip on their songs, no matter how hard I tried to enjoy this release. Perhaps I have just become one picky bastard, I don't know.

If you are a fan of this sort of Death Metal, then this might be right up your alley.

Вологодские мясники Dig Me No Grave смело идут своим путем, что похвально. Другое дело, что путь этот в каком-то смысле давно проторен и изъезжен вдоль и поперек прочими творцами дэт-метала, как зарубежными, так и отечественными. Но пока мода на олдскульное музло не спадает, такие коллективы всегда в почете. Буду честен: Dig Me No Grave - это просто образец хорошего, тягучего и жирного дэта, в котором уже нет ничего новаторского. Музыканты взяли все стандартные элементы стиля и сделали свой коктейль, который, может, и мало чем отличается от многих других, но по-своему хорош. И слышно, что все это делалось ради поклонников того самого саунда, который безвозвратно ушел в прошлое. А ведь в конце 80-х и начале 90-х ничего тяжелее такого музла в природе не было. Вся эта техничность и прочие дэт-металлические рюши появились потом, а сначала были Malevolent Creation, Entombed, Dismember, Suffocation, Bolt Thrower и многие другие, от которых остались лишь пара убойных альбомов и десятки последователей. К таким последователям можно отнести и наших вологжан. Я даже не скажу на 100%, что у них есть собственное лицо, потому что при прослушивании сабжа то и дело в сознании всплывают отсылки к прочим адептам металла. Но что у группы не отнять, так это качественный подход к музыке и знание своего дела. "Immemorial Curse" - большой шаг вперед по сравнению в предшествовавшим ему "Cosmic Cult", хотя и там все было довольно неплохо. Просто сабж хорош именно в вакууме, сам по себе - красиво оформленный альбом, с годным, тяжелым и достойным материалом, который приятно слушать, если не заморачиваться на новаторстве и его месте среди других дэт-металлических альбомов. Несмотря на вроде бы вторичность, не могу сказать о данной работе ничего откровенно плохого. Потому что даже олдскул надо уметь играть и подавать, звуча при этом не как старый радиоприемник, в чем Dig Me No Grave себя прекрасно показали.

Hace exactamente un año atrás dábamos cuenta de “From past aeons”, aquel primer demo de los rusos Dig Me No Grave, reeditado por el sello Symbol of Domination. Ahora, lo que nos convoca es su último LP, “Immemorial curse”, lo que muestra más o menos lo que ya es marca registrada de la banda: death metal tradicional a la vieja usanza. Dicho esto, es inevitable citar a dos referentes del estilo como son Morbid Angel y Bolt Thrower.

Siempre sustentado por las letras lovecraftianas, “Immemorial curse” se caracteriza por un sonido relajado y sin demasiados rebusques, un punto más de concordancia con las bandas antes mencionadas. Los fans del death metal old-school no suelen ser muy demandantes para con las bandas que practican el estilo, por lo cual si lo que buscas es un rato de diversión y pogo, aquí vas a encontrar todo eso resumido en un puñado de buenas canciones.

Иногда работа рецензента даёт свои плоды: отслушаешь, бывает, полдюжины тоскливых записей, а потом вдруг попадается что-то действительно зачётное. Именно к зачётным вещам я и отнесу последний диск российской формации Dig Me No Grave.

Нарезают эти ценители олдскула (вы только посмотрите на нашивки вокалиста в буклете!) американизированную версию death metal, слегка приправленную трэшевыми мотивами. Некоторые сравнивают с Immolation и Morbid Angel, но я, не будучи фанатом обеих команд, воздержусь от комментариев. У меня почему-то некоторые моменты и вовсе вызвали прямую ассоциацию с самыми ранними записями Vader, хотя если подумать – можно вспомнить кучу дэзовых групп со схожим звучанием. В текстах царит тотальный ВОРШИП, некрокульт и сок могил. Таким образом, ребята не претендуют ни на какую оригинальность, но в тот же момент грамотно отдают дань былым временам.

Схожие мысли у меня и насчёт оформления: шикарная лавкрафтианская обложка, великолепные иллюстрации на каждой страничке аккуратного буклета, зачётный олдскульный серебристый диск и россыпь концертных фото. Всё качественно и по стандартам. Если вы считаете себя фанатом старорежимного метала – знакомство с Dig Me No Grave обязательно.

В принципе, подводя итог скажу, что с таким материалом прямая дорога на запад: в там ценителей, да ещё и готовых раскошелиться на CD, явно побольше.

Named after the prolific fantasy writer of the 1930s, the Russian band from northern Russia can now be considered as a veteran one, being active since 2010.

This digipack CD, released as a co-production between Satanath, Sevared and Wings of Destruction records; it contains 10 tracks and features Lovecraftian artwork and lyrics, dealing with the following topics:

-a carnage rite of noble prisoners during a war

-an initiation ritual made to satisfy demons from the underworld gone wrong as the front cover depicts, where a hooded guy is surrounded by dead kings resurrecting during the summoning

-Acheron rising from its grave

-a dead mystic man who sold his soul to the devil

- a witch conjuring ghouls

-ancient wormed-aliens returned to dominate humans

- a bloody pagan cult replaced by Christianity

-hidden invaders seen by special goggles failing to win the earth over

-a cosmic race to reach the universe's edge to be finally free

There are not many products today so loyal to Old School Death Metal in terms of sounds and songwriting, but this second album from Dig Me No Grave is one of those few and the masterpiece created to be the five piece's logo just makes us drool even more waiting for the CD player to start.

After "(The Curse)", an intro of diabolical evocation, the good production which sounds very live, underproduced and clean, immediately stresses out the vintage form of Death Metal contained in "Ritual Slaughter"; the song is based upon mid-tempo groovy parts and a blastbeat accompanying the axe solo.

The marvellously-titled "Initiation To Afterlife Disciplines" cleverly mixes Autopsy and, in a minor fraction, 1989-Death, the former in the slow parts, while the latter in the more open riffs. It is once again a simple manner of architecturing a composition, yet always effective.

A pachydermical riff in tune with reeking growling opens "Cursed Acheron", another offering of classic Death Metal conquering the listener's favours from the first instants. The James Murphy-inspired solo represents the icy on the cake of this highlight.

A bit closer to Six Feet Under and Unleashed at the same time, "Dig Me No Grave" includes further groovy riffing and another guitar solo which belongs to the unrepeatable decade of the past century.

"The Call of the Witch" turns out to be a short chip of wicked Chris Barnes-like growly vocals reinforced by whispering or ultra-rotten backup vocals.

The bass leads and rules the dynamic "Ancient Aliens", a track which distinguishes itself thanks to riffs and licks more elaborate than the average of the record, though there is room for traditional blastbeats as well.

Even more intricate and bordering Thrash Metal is "Monument to Violence", halfway between Mortification and Tyrant Sin; its strength also lies in the several breakdown riffs and in a long 6-string solo making it instrumental for the most part.

Surprisingly, "I See Them" veers towards the early Napalm Death depurated from Grindcore, and prosecutes with the usual recipe other than a few Jungle Rot-reminiscent structures.

Different to the previous songs, "Edge of Eternity" incorporates a scourging mid-paced riff which is followed by mashing riffs which only Konkhra might be able to match, even if here the putrid growls are constantly far more old school Death Metal than the Danes' ones. A break on the trails of Immolation placed with the aim of increasing tension ensued by another breakdown in the vein of Internal Bleeding are all that the composition offers before going back to the initial pattern. Absolutely delightful are the double vocals (growly and demonic) reinforcing the faded finalè.

Also thanks to raw, ultracompressed and non-modern production, listening to "Immemorial Curse" is similar to making a journey with a time machine to an epoch of demotapes, paper xeroxed zines, and the late 80s/early 90s Death Metal albums. Back then, Death Metal was meant to be a scary way to translate our fears into music, and Dig Me No Grave have succeded in making this jump into the past a pleasant but not nostalgic experience.
