Bestial  Deform  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  has  been  featured before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  blasphemous  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a review  of  their  2016  album  "...Ad  Leones"  which  will  be  released  on  March  15th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  Records,  More  Hate Productions  and  Musica  Hibrida.

Operatic  female  vocals  and  thunder  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  operatic  male  vocals  that  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a ritualistic  feeling  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  musical  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  melodies,  blast  beats  and death  metal  vocals.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  high  pitched  screams  can  also  be  heard  in  some parts of  the  songs  and  the  tracks  also bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast parts  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in the  90's style  of  the  genre  while  also  sounding  a  little bit  modern  with  the  way  the  songs  are  produced  and  there  is  also a  brief  use  of  clean  playing and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  stick  to  more  of  a  melodic  style  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  words.

Bestial  Deform  created  another  death  metal  recording  that  is  very  brutal,  blasphemous  and  old  school  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anti  Christianitty,  Evil  and  Darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bestial  Deform  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blasphemous  death  metal,  you  should check out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Chariots"  "Together  We'll  Destroy  The  World"  "Severed  To  Pieces"  and  "I  Am  Alone ,  I  Exist And  I  Am  God".

After a wicked introduction to the album, Ad Patres, showcasing a juicy lycanthrope transformation amidst scattering humanity the bar is placed and its high.

Bestial Deform doesn’t however disappoint. In Maxillis Bestia sets the tone a style some might consider somewhat akin to (mid-career) Morbid Angel in feel. This is understandable as intricate other-worldly riffs (or shall I say underworld- like?) and infernally constructed guitar passages, ‘peaks and valleys’, rather than an all-out pummeling fretboard (insane speed) assault caress the listener’s senses. This release has the power to transport the audience back many a year to the heyday of an act who set many a trend, left a plethora of avenues of influence, then abruptly disappeared only then to reappear cloaked in something altogether different.

Kirill Ulanenkov (gotta’ love those villain-esque Eastern bloc names) delivers a vocal accompaniment in much the same manner (more so Steve Tucker than David Vincent IMO) albeit a style that also leans towards that of Dallas Toler-Wade’s (Nile).

Overall something I wasn’t expecting in the slightest, a great find in fact, a style that’s familiar, well crafted, ancient yet refined and altogether exquisitely executed.

Fans of Morbid Angel and the diabolic rejoice for there’s a new savior on the horizon. This is an album I am proud to recommend…a must listen at the very least!

Having been kicking out death metal since 1990, Russia’s Bestial Deform (front man Kirill Ulanenkov being the sole original member) return with their fifth full length album.

"Ad Leones" is 40 minutes of no nonsense old school death metal. That’s really both the albums strength and weakness. It’s competent enough but it doesn’t really stand out or set itself apart from the crowd, with that being said I am well aware the band have been blasting out blasphemous bile longer than I’ve had body hair and they are sticking to what they are good at and don’t really owe any one anything and there’s nothing actually wrong with the disc.

What it does do on the plus side is bring to mind the late 80’s early 90’s when death metal was still forming and bands couldn’t rely on studio trickery to build them up, this sounds raw, dirty and above all live. The songs are well formed and well paced if a little samey. They know how long to blast for before changing time signatures and mixing things up.

All in all if you like Bolt Thrower, the early days of Napalm Death- Barney era or Cancer there’s a lot here to enjoy.

Bestial Deform sind wieder zurück. Ganze elf Jahre mussten die Fans der Russischen Death Metaler auf ein neues Full-Length-Album warten. “…ad Leones” nennt sich das gute Teil und ist seit der letzten EP 2014 das neueste Eisen der Band.

Dass Bestial Deform nicht dafür steht, jedes Jahr oder alle zwei Jahre, neues Material in den Orbit zu schmeißen, ist bekannt. Die Mannen aus St. Petersburg besinnen sich eher darauf, erst richtig gutes Zeug an die Öffentlichkeit zu bringen. So verwundert es nicht, dass sie seit ihrem Bestehen – dies dauert mit winzigen Unterbrechungen nun schon seit 1990 – mit “…ad Leones” ihr erst fünftes Album auf den Markt bringen.

Doch dieses lange warten auf neuen Output zahlt sich bei Bestial Deform auf jeden Fall aus. “…ad Leones” beginnt mit einem ziemlich vielversprechenden Intro (Ad Patres) mit priesterlichem Kirchengekotze und dem Brüllen einiger hungrig zu scheinender Löwen. Dies macht sofort neugierig und Lust auf mehr.

Beim Zweiten Song weiß man dann, worauf man neugierig war und freut sich nun umso mehr auf das zu Hörende. Ziemlich brutal und mit sehr viel Power fegen die Russen einfach über alles drüber, was sich bei 3 noch nicht in Sicherheit gebracht hat.

Die Tracks sind vollgepackt mit bestialischen Growls und sehr harten Vocals überhaupt. Das Songwriting wirkt genretechnisch sehr ausgefeilt ohne jedoch übers Ziel hinaus zu schießen. Bestial Deform schaffen mit ihrem Mix aus Nile und Behemoth eine äußerst brutale aber auch durchwegs melodische und eingehende Atmosphere. Vor allem der letzte Song “Christianos ad Leones” wirkt sehr Behemoth-anmutend.

Mein Fazit: “…ad Leones” wurde ein richtig gutes Album mit einigen gut verbauten Raffinessen. Hier wird Death Metal groß geschrieben und wahrlich zelebriert. Von Double Bass-Gerolle über harte Riffs und dunklen, schroffen Melodien wird hier alles geboten. Bestial Deform legen uns ein absolut gelungenes Album mit dem Russischen Gütesiegel vor die Füße.

Οι Bestial Deform έρχονται από τη Ρωσία και κουβαλάνε αρκετά χρόνια ιστορίας στην πλάτη τους. Δημιουργήθηκαν το 1990 και κυκλοφόρησαν το πρώτο τους demo το 1992. Από τότε μέχρι και σήμερα (με ένα μικρό διάστημα 2 ετών αδράνειας) παραμένουν ενεργοί με αρκετές δισκογραφικές δουλείες.

Το “…Ad Leones” είναι ο πιο πρόσφατος δίσκος τους που κυκλοφόρησε στα μέσα Μαρτίου από τη Satanath Records. Περιέχει 10 τραγούδια με συνολική διάρκεια κοντά στα 40 λεπτά τα οποία μας φέρνουν στο μυαλό τις παλαιές ημέρες της death metal σκηνής. Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel και Cancer είναι μερικά από τα συγκροτήματα που φαίνεται πως έχουν επηρεάσει τον ήχο των Ρώσων.

Οι Bestial Deform δεν είναι το συγκρότημα που φέρνει νέα πνοή στο death metal αλλά εκείνο που αναζωπυρώνει φλόγες του παρελθόντος και φέρνει στο μυαλό τις ένδοξες ημέρες του ήχου. Με πάθος και τιμιότητα στη μουσική τους, σίγουρα δε θα αφήσουν αδιάφορους όσους έχουν ανάλογα ακούσματα.

Der Russen Vierer legt hier sein fünftes Album hin und beim Intro „Ad Patres“ ist die dämonische Atmosphäre stark gemacht, um dann mit „In Maxillis Bestia“ einen Death Metal Kracher vom Stapel zu lassen. Nach etwas Riffing setzen die trocken knallenden Drums noch im Mid Tempo ein, um nach kurzer Zeit in Geballer auszuarten. Dazu die teuflischen Growls und die geradlinige Art des Songs lassen schon aufhorchen. „Chariots“ lässt auch mit massiven Riffs das Werk beginnen, doch das Stück bricht nicht in Raserei aus, sondern wird geschickt im Mid Tempo Bereich gehalten und an manchen Stellen sogar noch etwas tragender und auch teils verspielte Parts sind in guter Form zu vernehmen. Das Wechselspiel aus vertrackten Parts, Highspeed und Drive ist bei „Symbol of Salvation“ sehr gut getroffen, während man bei „Spirit. Rage. Flash“ fast behaupten kann, dass BESTIAL DEFORM die russische Antwort auf die Cannibal Corpse sind, die hier zusätzlich auch melancholisch anmutende Stellen eingeflochten haben. Im technischen Bereich ist bei „Together We'll Destroy the World“ alles im grünen Bereich, nur fehlt mir hier ein wenig das Geballer, das würde sich an manchen Stellen besser machen als dieses Ufta Gestampfe, aber ansonsten ist dies akzeptabel. In hohem Tempo wird bei „Severed to Pieces“ nur ab und an bremsen die Russen mit Mid tempo Double Bass Donnern mal etwas ab, aber ansonsten geht es hier schnurstracks geradeaus. „Hoc Est“ baut erst auf seine Riffwand, ballert dann volle Kanone los, um dann in einen Mix aus Schnelligekeit, Mid tempo und tödlichen Groove zu wechseln. „I Am Alone. I Exist. I Am God“ ist eine gute Death Metal Nummer, die aber eine ganze Weile braucht, um zu wüten, für mich zu lange treten die Russen hier in einer Linie auf der Stelle und lassen etwas Abwechslung vermissen, die erst ab der Hälfte des Songs in Wallung kommt. Anfang und Ende von „Christianos ad Leones“ sind bösartig schleppend, während im Mittelpart sowohl hohes Tempo als auch gute Breaks kurz in Erscheinung treten und diese CD beenden, die gut anzuhören ist, der aber leider der letzte Biss fehlt, so dass als Ergebnis 7,1 von 10 Punkten heraus kommt.

Bestial Deform, now a quartet, plays Russian death metal. The band's history goes as far back as to 1990, and the band's been inspired by the Florida scene.

On their fifth album, they serve barely 40 minutes of (death) threats to healthy mental health. At least if the band is traditional what lyrics are concerned.

It's obviously rather hard to tell as the vocalist gurgles and foams like a hungry beast. With genre-faithful vocals and a song title as Severed to Pieces, all indications at least point to the band not forsaking grotesque traditions.

The music is fairly brutal and characterized by aggression and punch. Although the band's expression is impregnated with blood and powdered glass, the songs got good renewal of riffs and rhythms, along with a few gloomier portions where the intensity shifts from the musical to the mental.

...Ad Leones isn't original in any way, but with the amount of variation within each song, and the unusually compressed audio, it stands out slightly anyway. For better or worse. The dynamics, or lack thereof, is mainly reduced to a squalid DR3. the production generally has a somewhat unusual sound, and all in all the sound gets a fairly peculiar touch that score on individuality if nothing else.

Despite the mentioned variety within each song, it doesn't create huge diversity throughout the album, unfortunately. The band operates within a strictly limited range of musical landscape. Although not exceptional, I would still call the songs pretty good, but I almost find the music too sating in the long run. After a few hours I practically feel stuffed.

If you live and breathe death metal, you should check out the Russians no matter what I might think. There's no certainty you are as finicky and difficult as me. You may be worse. Bestial Deform's misshaped carnality has a higher resemblance toward Morbid Angel than Cannibal Corpse, just to give a tiny stylistic clue.

The very symphonic / orchestral intro is a real throw off to what the band is going to present to you which is very simply Brutal and Guttural Death metal that through out the mid 90's to early 00's which was what extreme metal what presenting us. If you like anything Death metal from Relapse, Roadrunner, Nuclear Blast or Earache from that time then you know where we are going from. They would add element of melodic riffs into blistering breakdown and low guttural Vokills and a drummer that you swear was wound up to keep playing at that level. Bestial Deformed also has the amazing mid tempo Double kick and heavy Prog metal elements going on trying to get you off kilter always. They are a brilliant example of how Death metal doesn't need to be different . There are so many creative parts within the genre to still make very original sounding music..

"...Ad Leones" von BESTIAL DEFORM ist ein mächtiger Vorschlaghammer aus verschachtelten Melodien und stechender Brutalität geworden. Der Opener "In Maxillis Bestia" gibt bereits großen Aufschluss über die Hintergründe von "...Ad Leones". Mit pfeilschnellem Riffing startet einer der stärksten Tracks auf der gesamten Platte. Das Songwriting ist melodisch orientiert und trotzdem durchdringend wie eine rasiermesserscharfe Axt. Hier gelingt der Spagat zwischen fast schon versöhnlicher Virtuosität und, im Kontrast dazu, unnachgiebiger Wucht. So verbuchen viele Passagen eine eindrucksvoll klirrende Kälte, insbesondere was die Riffs und die treibenden Blastbeats angeht.

Folglich kann etwa "Symbol Of Salvation" durch seine vergleichsweise intensive Atmosphäre punkten, bevor mit "Together We´ll Destroy The World" vielleicht eines der besten Stücke aus den Boxen bricht. Mit dem in den Rahmen passenden "Hoc Est" und dem rein atmosphärisch wirkenden Intermezzo vor dem Schlussknall "Christianos Ad Leones!" bemühen sich BESTIAL DEFORM ebenfalls um Abwechslung und interessante Übergänge. Zwar kann die Band die hohe Messlatte nicht über die komplette Spielzeit auf dem absoluten Höhepunkt halten, dennoch bleibt "...Ad Leones" ein rundes Werk, das, trotz enorm anspruchsvoller Spielkultur, nur in den seltensten

Momenten überfrickelt wirkt und zumeist schlichtweg killt.

BESTIAL DEFORM je legendární ruská brutálně death metalová kapela, která letos vydala album "...Ad Leones". Při jeho poslechu si přijdu jako nějaký nespravedlivě odsouzený, který čekal na popravu dlouhých dvacet let. Konečně jsem se dočkal. Rusové hrají přesně ten druh syrového, neučesaného, ošklivého, zlého a blasfemicky laděného smrtícího kovu, který vychází z tvorby MORBID ANGEL, IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, CANCER, BOLT THROWER, NAPALM DEATH. Hutnost projevu podtrhuje neskutečně temný zvuk a určitá lehkost, s jakou se pánové na popravišti pohybují. Výsledný dojem je od první společné chvíle neskutečně devastující a masakrující. Přesně v tomto stylu to mám asi nejraději. Bez zbytečností, bez technického předvádění, ale přímo rovnou na solar plexus.

Odsouzenec je připoután ke dřevěné židli. Na hlavu a nohy mu jsou přiloženy elektrody, které jsou navlhčeny slaným roztokem. Místa dotyku s elektrodami jsou oholena, aby se co nejvíce zmenšil elektrický odpor. Popravčí tým se přesune do místnosti, odkud může popravu pozorovat. Dozorce dá znamení a je zapojen zdroj, napětí 500 - 2300 voltů (v každém státě jinak); k popravě se používá střídavý proud. Po asi třiceti sekundách je zdroj vypojen, lékař čeká několik sekund, než se tělo ochladí, a zkontroluje, jestli vězňovo srdce stále bije. Jestliže ano, je znovu připojen zdroj a takto se pokračuje, dokud není člověk mrtvý.

Zmítám se, napojený na elektrickou síť, mám pocit, že mi každou chvíli vyskočí mozek z hlavy. Škvařím se, nevinný, prokletý a za neprůhledným sklem tuším chtivé pohledy mých katů. Jsou tam s nimi. Brutální death metalisté BESTIAL DEFORM. Jejich ostré riffy jen podtrhují celou tuhle morbidní atmosféru (doplněnou antikřesťanskými texty, ďáblem i tmou). Kroutím se v nekonečných křečích, pálí to, hrozně to pálí. Někde v dálce vidím vytouženou temnotu. Ta schopnost složit zabijácký riff, zkušenost a neskutečný feeling deformují moji mysl. Nějak mi najednou nevadí, že za několik minut opustím tenhle svět. S podobnými deskami mi to přijde tak nějak lehčí, náročné, ale osvobozující.

Při popravě je v místnosti cítit spálená kůže a maso. Poprava může být doprovázena kouřem nebo párou, krvácením (z úst nebo očí), zvracením, urinací nebo defekací. Někdy vězňovi vypadnou oční bulvy. Vězeň otéká, někdy začne hořet. Smrt je způsobena zástavou srdce a paralýzou respiračního systému.

Mám to za sebou, přecházím postupně do země stínů. Z dálky ještě slyším slova doktora, prohlašujícího, že popravený prodělal exitus. Je ze mě sice jen zuhelnatělý kus čehosi, ale usmívám se. BESTIAL DEFORM totiž přesně vědí, co a jak chtějí hrát a hrají to moc dobře. Jsou skvělí řemeslníci, kteří sice netvoří nový směr, ani neboří hudební hranice, ale jejich muzika je pro mě perfektní ukázkou skvěle odvedené práce. Nalézám zde pro sebe krutost, temnotu, ale i tolik potřebné melodie. Osmdesátá i devadesátá léta byla pro death metal zlatým dolem, Rusové je rozvíjejí po svém, s vlajkou hrdě pozvednutou. Líbí se mi poctivost, reálný přístup i surovost, která je slyšet po celou dobu hracího času. Takhle nějak by to mělo vypadat. Brutální drahokam, vybroušený k samotné dokonalosti!

"Ad Leones" je pořádně syrovým kouskem hudby. Během poslechu se ocitneme spolu s BESTIAL DEFORM na hodně morbidních místech. Hnus, špína, litry krve a neskutečný tlak. Tak by se dala nová desky těchto Italů charakterizovat asi nejlépe. Po hudební stránce se jedná o klasický brutální death metal, který vás doslova ukřižuje. Syrové, mocné, zákeřné a ostré jako břitva. Takové jsou songy z nového alba. Pokud si vedle sebe vyskládám deset posledních alb z tohoto stylu, sahám po BESTIAL DEFORM nejčastěji. Muzika zde totiž obsahuje jakousi nechutnou přitažlivost a já si musím dávat tyhle ostré skladby do hlavy čím dál tím častěji. Po poslechu jsem očištěn jako věřící po zpovědi. Exhumujte všechno mrtvé a slyšte slova mocné hydry! Brutal death metalové album, které vás rozdrtí obrovskou silou! Skvěle!

Russians Bestial Deform have returned with their latest and most crushing death metal release in the form of “…Ad Leones”.

This is the band’s first output of new stuff in 25 years, and a few re-recorded cuts from their first album from 1990, which definitely smokes many of the death metal bands in today’s global scene.

“…Ad Leones” is an absolute merciless barrage of chest thumping rhythms, bestial growls from the depths of hell, and percussive work that sounds like bombs going off around you. Now, this is what I call aggressively played death metal with plenty of hateful feelings geared towards the world and its fucked up ideals, which are created by religious bigots.

“Together We’ll Destroy The World” is an awesome re-recording of the original version, with a better overall sound, production, and the band’s playing just annihilates all existence with its nuclear war-like brutality. This song still has retained its fierce edge, and just rolls over you like a heavy piece of pavement dredging machinery.

“Severed To Pieces” is a deadly force of double bass lashings tied in with flesh ripping guitars, and growls that come at you like, like you’re a piece of meat to be consumed by the underworld infernal lord. The music is pretty well executed here, and some of the breaks remind of old school Pestilence.

This album is a worthy listen for fans of early Morbid Angel, Sinister and “Mindloss” era Gorefest.

Bestial Deform is a band hell bent for the destruction of our world, and their mind numbing death metal makes the experience all the more realistic in its ungodly approach.

Russian death lords Bestial Deform have returned after almost eleven years since their previous record, ‘Stop the Christianity’ in 2005. As with a lot of releases from the great motherland of the east, you find that Russian bands tend to have a more pissed off out look on life, and this appears to translate well into the thunderous chug of death metal. …ad Leones is out now on Satanath Records.

After a suitably moody intro, interspersed with screams and distorted growls, first track proper ‘In Maxillis Bestia’ is a rabid slab of guttural death metal rage. The vocals are particularly good, with a thick gargling growl backing up the chunky riffs. You can tell that the influences of Floridian death metal have definitely made it as far as Russia, with tracks like ‘Sever to Pieces’ and the arse tearing ‘Chariots’ worshipping at the mad altars of Morbid Angel and Deicide. The riffs are superb, and the pure tectonic rumble of ‘Spirit.Rage.Flash’ is a joy to behold.

Bestial Deform combine the blasting power of the likes of Hate Eternal with the uneasy riffing and violence incarnate of Immolation to create something pretty damn good. Their anti-Christianity rhetoric stirs up some genuinely savage parts, and the closing title track is a beauty. Yeah ok, some of the English song titles seem a bit confusing, but it’s a small complaint in a record that is perfectly happy to bludgeon you in the back of the head and drag your corpse off into the void. Blast this loud.

Легендарный питерский дэт-коллектив Bestial Deform по праву считается сильнейшим и старейшим дэт-актом в нашей стране. Ещё в конце 80-х лидер команды Кирилл Уланенков оттачивал свои железные риффы в составе разных локальных составов, а в 1990 году запустил собственно Bestial Deform, который уже в те далёкие железные времена играл ничуть не хуже именитых флоридцев из Morbid Angel, Obituary и Deicide.

Первые два альбома Bestial Deform являются бесспорной классикой не только российского, но и мирового дэт-металла, в то же время сделав команду Кирилла законодателем смертельной моды и одним из лидеров дэт-метал-вакханалии в городе на Неве. В 2014 и 2015 годах были переизданы второй и первый релизы этих дэт ветеранов, а в прошлом году был издан двухпесенный EP “Severed To Pieces”, призванный показать актуальное положение дел в лагере Bestial Deform и их нешуточную готовность к покорению новых вершин.

И прогремел гром! Взревели львы! И сейчас мы явились свидетелями того, как усилиями лейблов More Hate Productions и Satanath Records был выпущен новейший полноформатный альбом этой великой банды, который получил название “…Ad Leones”. В духе собственных же традиций команда снова назвала свой лонгплей на латыни – “…львам”, что очевидно вновь отсылает нас к временам римских гонений на христиан, в ходе которых последние нередко бывали бросаемы на съедение этим свирепым хищникам, и является укороченной версией названия последнего трека – “Christianos Ad Leones”.

В музыкальном плане нынешний Bestial Deform — это всё такой же свирепый олдскульный дэт-метал с львиным рыком вокалиста Кирилла Уланенкова.  Классические, годами проверенные и обкатанные риффы, мощнейшая ритм-секция и кромсающие жестокие тексты. В своей рецензии на прошлогодний EP команды я написал, что Bestial Deform стал более современным и следует уже не столько “Altars Of Madness” великих Morbid Angel, сколько их более позднему “Domination” – написал и ошибся. На “…Ad Leones” нет и следа новомодных экспериментов. И если сравнивать этот альбом с теми же морбидами, то это скорее смесь “Altars Of Madness” и “Covenant”.

Первый официальный полноформатный альбом Bestial Deform назывался “Together We’ll Destroy The World!” (“Вместе мы разрушим мир!”), и именно такой патетикой были пронизаны и пропитаны все релизы питерских кузнецов смертельного металла на протяжении всей их богатой истории, но композиции с таким названием в активе “деформов” до сих пор не было. Однако теперь круг замкнулся, и Bestial Deform, словно шумерский змей, пришёл к тому, с чего начинал в далёком 1994 году – для  “…Ad Leones” была специально записана песня с названием “Together We’ll Destroy The World!”.

На “…Ad Leones” есть как скоростные вещи (“Chariots”, “Spirit, Rage, Flash”, “”Together We’ll Destroy The World”), так и среднетемповые увесистые композиции (“Symbol Of Salvation”, “I am Alone, I exist, I am God”, “Christianos Ad Leones”), но все они неизменно пропитаны звериной, пронзительной, словно закалённой в адских печах, злобой и идеально дополняют друг друга, разрывая барабанные перепонки слушателей то львиными клыками и лапами, то безжалостными римскими мечами. Но вот чего здесь нет, так это современной пластмассы и всяческих электронных фишек. Bestial Deform – это настоящий метал в его стопроцентной чистоте и подлинности.

“…Ad Leones” не содержит никаких откровений, но это настолько сбалансированный и увесистый кусок брутала и ярости, что не восхититься этой музыкой просто невозможно. Даже лаконичный буклет, в котором по какой-то причине “не поместились” фото музыкантов не смог испортить моё крайне высокое впечатление от этой работы. В каждой ноте и в каждом взрыке здесь чувствуется годами копившаяся бронебойная агрессия и подлинное мастерство настоящих классиков жанра. Что тут сказать: buy or …ad leones!

Beständigkeit war offenbar noch nie die große Stärke dieser russischen Combo. Seit 1990 ist BESTIAL DEFORM bereits im Orbit, mit gerade mal fünf vollwertigen Releases bis zu diesem Tag gehört sie aber zu den unproduktivsten Acts der ganzen osteuropäischen Szene - und dabei Kirill Ulanenkov und seine Mannen doch eigentlich so viel zu sagen.

Das aktuelle Album unterstreicht jedenfalls, dass die Release-technischen Nachlässigkeiten auf die Weiterentwicklung des Bandformats keinen Einfluss gehabt haben. Im Gegenteil: BESTIAL DEFORM klingt ungemein entschlossen, widmet sich mit Herzblut den Einflüssen aus Florida, kann aber gerade in den mittleren Temporegionen auch eine Reihe eigenständiger Akzente setzen, vor allem was die brutalen Grooves in Nummern wie 'Hoc Est' oder dem beschwörerischen 'Christianos Ad Leones!' angeht.

Am wohlsten fühlen sich die Russen auf ihrem aktuellen Werk jedoch ganz klar in den Passagen, in denen das Tempo angezogen wird und auch ein paar Thrash-Nuancen den Sound füllen. Speziell im Anfangsdrittel erlebt man in dieser Hinsicht ein paar echte Highlights, die den musikalisch recht hohen Stellenwert dieser Band gerade auch auf nationaler Ebene betonen. Aber auch zu späteren Zeitpunkten kann BESTIAL DEFORM immer noch nachsetzen und hält die Sache angenehm variabel und spannend. Warum also kommt die Band nicht so recht voran und gibt sich selbst nicht den letzten Schub? Auf diese Frage wird man so schnell wohl keine Antwort finden.

Andererseits ist BESTIAL DEFORM wohl das beste Beispiel dafür, dass langwierige Undergroundrecheche immer wieder zum Ziel führt. Die Szene im Osten hat so viele starke Acts, die darauf warten, von Fans aus dem Westen entdeckt zu werden. Und gerade diese Jungs hier, die definitiv zur Speerspitze des russischen Todesbleis gehören, sollte man bei seiner aktiven Suche keinesfalls vernachlässigen und sich schleunigst mit "...Ad Leones" vertraut machen!

Среди присланных More Hate Productions дисков обнаружил сабжевый диск BESTIAL DEFORM изданный совместно c Satanath records (Rus), Musica Hibrida (Эквадор). Тут же припомнил, что это не первый BESTIAL DEFORM, который я обозревал. И точно. Я, оказывается, писал уже про два диска: Bestial Deform - Bellum Contra Omnes — More Hate Productions MHP 14-128 / SAT 084 и Bestial Deform 2014 EP – Severed to pieces – Satanath records. Думаю, эта инфа будет необходима тем камрадам, что пополняют свои коллекции, (куй железо, не отходя от кассы)). В данном месте это означает, что диски скорее всего доступны на соответствующих лейблах.

Это пятый полноформат петроградской группы, которая тотально рубит дэт-метал. Тотально? Ну да - бескомпромиссно и по чугуну. Тем более тематика лирики указана на архивах: зло, тьма, противопоставление религиозному началу. И рад бы поверить на слово, но как всегда - я лучше сам послушаю ))).

А вот вам казус. Цитата из отклика на альбом «BCO”: «Так как я усмотрел, что на фото один из музыкантов в майке Морбид энджел, то я естественно стал прислушиваться, а нет ли влияния этой величайшей команды. И обнаружил. …  Морбиды тоже не являются изобретателями хаотической гитарной атаки, ее придумали еще музыканты Кельтик фрост». Конец цитаты. Смотрю недавние фотки группы с концерта в Коврове, так там один участник  группы Bestial Deform стоит в майке Кельтик фрост))). Как по писанному)). Ну это так, - мелочи мироздания. Серьезно - то, что группа BESTIAL DEFORM активно проводит жизнь в турне, где собирает бешеные толпы фэнов самого тяжелого звука, а также гурманов олдскула.

Насчет обложек — здесь на данном компакте явлена отличная картинка в своем жанре. Реально - сразу же, даже не вникая чувствуется брутализм этой картинки. Вот так и должно быть. 8-страничный буклет заполнен текстами да тенксами — все нормально — по чугуну)).

На 40 минутах этого диска, который начинается с лирических)) песнопений и рыкания львов ( Ad Leones все таки..., что означает «львам». Многих тех, кто не уважал Юпитера и других богов, древние римляне отдавали на съедение этим диким и красивым животным) представлена устрашающая стена звука в стиле дэт-металл. Причем как мне показалось, в этой своей работе петроградцы сделали акцент на неформальную жесткость, аудиальный разрыв шаблона и сильнейшее ментальное давление. Надо сразу сказать, что коллективу BESTIAL DEFORM в этот раз удалось воплотить поистине монолитные музыкальные идеи, композиторской электросваркой так скомпоновать конструкцию, что она кажется недоступным для разборки артефактом, который бешено носится, уничтожая все, что попадется под его лазерные пушки.

Каждый раз ритм-секция выкатывает понтонные переправы своих партий, на которые выходит тяжелая артиллерия струнных, Драммер и басист создают приличную и главное мощную основу для гитаристов, оформляют этот продукт BESTIAL DEFORM таким образом шипами и иглами — что бы он не укатился, а наоборот встрял в мозг слушателя и там пребывал, пока его не извлечет хирургия - свойственным ей способом. Ударник многозамечателен на этом диске, создавая замысловато плетеную сеть - арматуру, которой будет прихвачена прочая неумолимая атака группировки. Потому он старается изо всех сил, ибо его прихватки из колючей проволоки мощно формируют тело траков BESTIAL DEFORM, словно добрым мачете рисуют по живому дорожную карту: куда плясать и куда петь.

Гитарная орбитальная группировка решает свою задачу в ключе всеобщего уничтожения: создания мощного струнного кулака, и соответственно отработки по указанным направлениям. Всякий раз гитаристы феерически прорывают любую оборону противника, обрушиваясь со всей присущим им веским аудиальным ударом и подобающей  составляющей — бестиальной — звериной по настроению (см название группы) и мастерской по воплощению. При том варьируя от беспощадной, но прецизионной, строительной долбильной установки до маниакальной бормашины в руках спятившего наркомана-стоматолога.

Вокалист команды специализируется на низком зоологическом гроулинге, плотном - от напичканных эмоциональных установок, главные их которых: желание доминировать, устрашение гражданских лиц, приведение их в состояние дезорганизации и упадка.

Мне уже приходилось писать о предельной серьезности муз материала BESTIAL DEFORM, не обойду этого и сейчас, ибо данный факт бросается в глаза,  принципиально показывая миру  сложный и высокоорганизованный продукт. Дэт метал здесь сознательно устремлен к брутал дэту, вываливая на фэн-базу литейные формы горячей стали.

The Russian bear lumbers forth from its cave to deliver this meaty and yes, lumbering slab of reasonably old school-style death metal.

With mainman Kirill Ulanenkov handling both guitar and vox and a discography dating all the way back to the latter end of death metal’s glory days in 1992, it’s unsurprising that this feels pretty authentic, despite some obvious markers of more “modern” and “blackened” iterations of the subgenre.

Ulanenkov’s vox sound like a cross between David Vincent growls and something far more blunt and “brutal” ala Vader, and the riffs vary between a straightforward crunchiness somewhere between Baphomet and Immolation, and dropping straight into earlier Pestilence territory at some points (check out that quirky trill riff on “chariots” or the stutter stops of “symbol of salvation”).

On the other hand, you can smell the Swedish black metal influence all over this – somewhere between the black-death of Grotesque or Necrophobic and the highly overutilized and quite self consciously eeeeevillll vibe of Watain.

If you take later 90’s/early millenial releases from once-worthy acts like Immolation, Vader or even something otherwise unrelated like Malevolent Creation or Nile seriously, there’s no question that …Ad Leones will be right up your alley.

For diehard old schoolers like myself, there’s a hell of a lot to like here, for all its homebrew cocktail-style dilution through unrelated (and unwanted) non-scene filters.

I dug it, and could easily see giving this another spin or two in the near future.

Es un cuarteto procedente de Saint Petersburgo. Esta es la ciudad de los zares, siempre se considerÓ la ciudad elitista y aburguesada de la extinta Unión Soviética, la ciudad que más tira hacia la cultura inglesa y francesa y menos rusa.

Pero de elitista y aburguesamiento no hay nada en la música de Bestial Deform, es una banda que se enfanga con sus ritmos clásicos de Death de la vieja escuela, suenan como un trueno. Se notan mucho las tablas de esta banda, es una banda formada en 1990, banda que sufrió numerosos cambios de formación pero que no renuncian a su estilo clásico.

Este es el quinto álbum de la banda, surge 11 años después de su último trabajo y llegan con fuerza, de Hecho diría que es uno de sus mejores trabajos por no decir el mejor. Este álbum salió editado en Marzo por Satanath Records.

Es una banda que estuvo en numerosos festivales metaleros dando el callo junto a bandas como Napalm Death, Vader o Behemoth. La temática de este álbum gira entorno a los cristianos que murieron durante la persecución que sufrieron en Roma, narra aquellos tiempos crueles del que se hicieron eco novelas tan míticas como Quo Vadis? se empapa de sangre, de épica y de crueldad máxima las letras de los Bestial Deform para contarnos esta historia.

El clasicismo es lo que destila este trabajo Intro / Ad Patres es la épica por la épica y logra introducirnos en la historia, In Maxillis Bestia tira de blast beats y de Death con toque ultracañero, toda una declaración de intenciones, pero Chariots es uno de los mejores cortes de este trabajo. Nos vamos a encontrar con un tema cargado de atmósfera clásica, es como unir el primer álbum de los Death con la primera etapa de los Morbid Angel.

No renuncian a sonar versátiles los rusos y de vez en cuando ofrecen algún toque de Blackened Death como es el caso de Symbol of Salvation o retoman la idea del Death old school más podrido en temas como Spirit, Rage, Flesh, tampoco disgustan nada cuando acuden a los pasajes más lentos para tirar de cierta atmósfera lúgubre como hacen en Together We’ll Destroy the World.

Hoc est y  Severed to Pieces son las dos mejores piezas de este trabajo, las más elaboradas y las que más feeling tienen. Me gusta la producción de este trabajo, está muy lograda. Cada instrumento se escucha nítidamente y es una producción moderna con una batería con un sonido muy nítido y potente y un bajo que no solo se dedica a marcar ritmos. La galería de los riffs es de lo más clásica, por momentos recuerdan a los Vader, en otros a los Death, Morbid Angel… siempre tiran de clásicos. Me gusta la estructura de los temas, siempre hay variedad con numerosos cambios de ritmo, atmósfera densa y un gran trabajo de guitarras, es un Death metal clásico hecho con la gorra.

Dalle steppe russe, I Bestial Deform hanno vomitato blasfemie e cattiverie dal lontano 1992. Pur essendosi sciolti per un anno solamente (1998) i nostri non sono stati dei campioni di prolificità, tanto che questa loro quinta opera arriva a ben undici anni di distanza dalla precedente. In realtà poco è cambiato nella loro produzione. Siamo infatti sempre nel territorio dei Morbid Angel, vale a dire un Death/Black dalle forti influenze Brutal. Seppur un po’ pacchiani nei testi (chi non lo è in questo frangente!), i russi fanno davvero bene il loro sporchissimo lavoro con dieci tracce che martellano e mattono a ferro e fuoco gli ideali cristiani, quasi a operare una inquisizione al contrario. I riferimenti ai Morbid Angel si sentono soprattutto nella batteria e nella voce, ma il mood generale paga dazio al gruppo americano davvero tanto anche nel complesso. Non che si sia di fronte ad un gruppo-plagio, anzi. La personalità c’è e si sente tutta, altrimenti non si spiegherebbe la longevità stessa della formazione. Bravi ragazzi…

Death Metal must be the Metal style that has the greatest number of bands. No kidding, because every week a new band from this genre appears, bringing something from the old spirit of the style, or something new. Of course, not all of them are really good, but some are excellent. From Russian lands (St. Petersburg, to be exact), comes a very good name: BESTIAL DEFORM, distilling their musical violence with their newest album, called “…Ad Leones.” They’re into a violent and traditional way of Death Metal, with its inspiration coming from bands such as MORBID ANGEL, INCANTATION and old albums from DEATH. But let’s be honest, these guys are destroying hearing since 1990, one year when the cursed Berlin Wall went down and socialism/communism was dethroned there. They have guts, and maybe the remembrance of those days under oppression is the key for their oppressive music, with very good technical level, and that is really lovely.

 

Get on the stage, and get smashed by their music! The sound quality of the album tries to keep their old school Death Metal identity, and it really fits, but without tearing the necessary clarity. You’ll feel their brutality and aggressive music, but understand what they are doing. Their best killings: the ferocious and technical “In Maxillis Bestia” (with very good drumming and excellent chorus), the bitter slow tempos of “Chariots” (but some fast moments are presented as well, in a very good exhibition of the guitar riffs), the abrasive vocals and bass guitar playing on the brutal “Symbol of Salvation,” the hooking violence of the tempos on “Together We’ll Destroy the World,” the excellent guitar massacre imposed on “Severed to Pieces” (showing very good rhythmic changes and good aggressiveness), and the nasty melodic scent shown on “I Am Alone. I Exist. I Am God.” It’s a very, very good show of musical violence and brutality from these veterans.

Já tínhamos uma ideia de que o death metal russo era bruto mas nunca suspeitávemos que poderia ter uma qualidade que estes Bestial Deform evidenciam. A banda cujo início de carreira remonta aos primórdios da década de noventa e que vive já uma segunda encarnação, demonstra que tem todo o direito a ser chamada uma das entidades de culto da Europa de Lest, principalmente pela potência de "... Ad Leones", que é já o quinto álbum de originais dos Bestial Deform. O death metal old school pode até reservar poucas surpresas para os aficionados, mas quando é bem executado, que se lixem as surpresas.

 

Com um teor blasfemo, temos aqui dez temas de death metal bruto à boa maneira dos Immolation, sem esquecer uns detalhes à la Morbid Angel, embora tenhamos que admitir que a primeira banda citada é a grande referência que nos surge aqui. Mais do que termos blastbeats a tempo inteiro, temos uma verdadeira dinâmica que faz com que este álbum se ouça muito bem, dando primazia ao ambiente, a um certo groove e a um feeling metálico que por vezes é esquecido nas propostas extremas, principalmente quando falamos de deathcore de hoje em dia.

 

Então, apesar da questão da originalidade, temos o facto metálico bem presente, com as raízes e influências descaradamente à vista de todos. Não interessa, é o conjunto de canções que fala mais alto que tudo o resto. Poderá cair no esquecimento, já que não traz realmente nada de novo, mas para quem vive e respira death metal, então este é excelente sítio para se ficar durante algum tempo.

BESTIAL DEFORM was founded back in 1990 and this is the band’s fifth full-length album. So I guess this is definitely not the most productive band on this planet, but who cares as long as the music is that good. And in this case the music is truly excellent. I have to admit that I’m not that familiar with their older stuff. I only have the album “Stop The Christianity!” from 2005 and that was a solid piece of unholy, anti-christian brutality. So I knew that this band was not too bad when Frank asked me to write a review, but I did not expect such a neck breaking monument. “...Ad Leones” totally blew me away, this is a huge step forward and a remarkable ass kicking masterpiece! This is awesome old school brutal Death Metal of the highest caliber. If you are into bands such as MORBID ANGEL, VADER or Germany’s finest PURGATORY you should get your fingers on “…Ad Leones” as fast as you can. I’m pretty sure you won’t regret it. These Saint Petersburg based ghouls delivered a first class Death Metal album with a powerful sound, harsh demonic vocals and nine (plus intro) great and varied songs. Thumbs up!

Nie wiem, czy to głód takiej muzyki, czy w muzyce weteranów rosyjskiej sceny jest taka moc, ale album ten zawładnął mną od pierwszego przesłuchania, żeby nie powiedzieć od pierwszych taktów. ",,,Ad Leones" jest piątą płytą w prawie dwudziestopięcioletniej historii zespołu i trwa niecałe 40 minut, na które składa się 10 kompozycji.

 

 

Muzyka, jakiej hołdują Rosjanie, to najczystszej krwi death metal wywodzący się z amerykańskiego odłamu tego gatunku. Techniczne, ale w granicach rozsądku, mięsiste riffy, pracująca na 200% perkusja wyznaczająca zmiany tempa, złowrogi wokal, warczący kolejne bluźniercze, antychrześcijańskie teksty. Szczególnie warto się przysłuchać jednak partiom basu, który, choć ukryty w tle, to nie pozostaje w cieniu innych instrumentów. Oczywiście, nie ma co się oszukiwać, że jest to najbardziej oryginalna muzyka na świecie, jednakże petersburski kwartet wycisnął z gatunku wszystko, co najlepsze i nagrał płytę, która dla mnie brzmi jak połączenie naszej polskiej Traumy i Deicide z początkowego okresu działalności. Idealnym zwieńczeniem albumu jest zamykający go "Christianos ad leones!", który odróżnia się od pozostałych powolnymi, miażdżącymi fragmentami. Po prostu jest moc w tym albumie.

...And here we come again Russia. Those guys from Saint Petersburg have started their anti-religious crusade long time ago in 1990. If you consider such date to classify them as veterans of Russian death metal scene then let it be. They have countless releases shown to the world already but I actually meet the band for the first time.

 

This album starts off with intro which theme probably drives Christianity insane for ages, when they were a prey for lions on the arenas of the Ancient Europe. Could be quite disturbing if you like sounds of animals hunting and devour human victims on the eyes of thousands bloodthirsty crowd. This introduction should be done scarier if you ask me but it`s just  quite intriguing for death metal album to begin...

 

Their music is a monstrous; condense on massive riffs and blasphemous death metal vocals. There are a lot of guitar shreds but when they focus more on heavy as fuck, grinding guitars then drums go crazy fast but precise. I clap my hands in response to technical performance they all contributed to this album. Songs are mature, brutal and I just can imagine how destructive force they must be when watching them live. It`s not that much technical death metal in meaning that it`s overproduced or anything like that. It`s more under control way of playing so the idea wise of the album is easy to catch, hear and enjoy. However, this album demands a bit focus from the listener as their death metal is well arranged. Finding all the best bits requires few approaches of the album which I love to do with this particular one! This is the way I discover the same music and albums over again so they never get old for me anytime I listen to them. I leave you with my full recommendation to Bestial Deform and their ...Ad Leones which for fans of Morbid Angel, Hate should be another perfect album to have.

I russi Bestial Deform sono nati, potremmo tranquillamente dire, un'epoca fa, fondati nel 1990 dall'allora ed attuale cantante/chitarrista Kirill Ulanenkov. In questi 26 anni di carriera hanno rilasciato una gran quantità di dischi tra EP ("Malebranche" del 1993, "We Go to Kill..." del 2005 e Severed to Pieces" del 2014) ed album: "Ad Leones, il disco in esame uscito lo scorso 15 marzo per per Satanath Records è il quinto per i deathsters di San Pietroburgo, dopo il debut "Together We'll Destroy the World" (1994), "Bellum Contra Omnes" (1996), "The Second Coming" (2006) e "Stop the Cristianity!" (2005). Già dai titoli degli album intuirete come i Bestial Deform facciano dell'anticristianità la loro bandiera. Come? Qualcuno azzarda un paragone con i Deicide? Sì, ci sta, anche se solo a livello concettuale.

 

Quello che ci propongono i Bestial Deform è un Death Metal di stampo floridiano nella più pura accezione del termine. Non c'è nulla d'innovativo, nulla di originale, se questo disco fosse uscito 15 anni fa invece che oggigiorno non ci sarebbe stata nessuna differenza... e c@##o, lo adoro! Per chi come me ascolta prettamente questo tipo di Death Metal, l'ascolto di "Ad Leones" è pura goduria, un quarantina scarsi di minuti di Death Metal senza fronzoli, diretto, sfrontato, tecnicamente nella media, con riff taglienti ed una sezione ritmica monolitica, il tutto con la voce di certo non da soprano leggero di Kirill. Già dall'intro "Ad Patres" si viene gettati all'interno del Colosseo dove i cristiani venivano dati in pasto ai leoni; e questo sarà il canovaccio dell'intero album: "Christianos ad Leones", "Hoc Est", "In Maxillis Bestia", "Symbol of Salvation" lasciano ben poco spazio all'immaginazione. E poi c'è "Severed to Pieces", che a mani basse è il miglior pezzo del disco: un martello pneumatico di nemmeno quattro minuti che provoca un headbanging spezzacollo. Cosa si può desiderare di più?

 

In conclusione: astenersi fans di Deathcore e robaccia moderna, che qui si suona Death Metal, puro, pesante, violento. Personalmente, non potevo chiedere di meglio e promuovo "Ad Leones" senza la benché minima riserva.

Bestial Deform sollten wissen wie man guten Death Metal spielt, immerhin ist die russische Gruppe bereits sei 1990 aktiv, schaffte es allerdings nie den großen Durchbruch zu erreichen. Vielleicht schaffen sie es ja mit ihrem neuen, 5. Album „…Ad Leones„.

 

Chorischer Gesang und das Brüllen von Bestien eröffnen den blasphemischen Sturm, der im Anschluss zum Besten gegeben wird. Der Sound ist schonmal gut, in den digitalen Zeiten auch bei Weitem kein Alleinstellungsmerkmal mehr. Die Drums sondern fast durchgehend harsche Salven an Blast Beats ab, während die Vocals tief growlend, angepisst und fast diabolisch daherkommen und die Gitarren mal groovige Riffs mal schwer stampfende und tiefe Druckwellen vom Stapel lassen. Soweit schonmal eine traditionelle aber nicht ineffektive Mischung. Dass immer wieder kleine Thrash-artige Momente durchschimmern ist sicher auch nicht verkehrt und eine Black Metal-typische diabolische Grundstimmung ist bei Blasphemie sowieso immer gut (siehe Behemoth). Dabei rutschen immer wieder kleine überraschende vertracktere Parts in den sonst eher geradlinigen aber dennoch interessanten Albumverlauf, denn sie vaiieren relativ gut zwischen melodischeren Momenten und purem Abriss und zeigen so immer wieder 2 Gesichter eines Genres ohne dabei zu weit vom Kern ihrer Musik wegzukommen. Dazu gesellen sich kleinere interessante Momente, wie das fast progressive Riffing in „Chariots“ oder der thrashige Einstieg von „Spirit. Rage. Flash„. Der ein oder andere Ausreißer mehr hätte vielleicht gut getan, vielleicht auch nicht.

 

Bestial Deform knüppeln, grooven und bollern sich durch 39 Minuten relativ klassischen Death Metal mit leichten Schnörkeln, der ordentlich in den Nacken geht. Dennoch ist fraglich ob dieses Werk zum Durchbruch reicht, dafür finden sich etwas zu wenige Aha-Momente, aber für Death Metal-Fans sicher ein Ohr wert.

Самая старейшая и влиятельная питерская формация наконец-таки разродилась новым полноформатным альбомом. Эх, долго же я ждал от этой группы новостей, а когда услышал их предыдущее EP, то ожидание только разгорелось. Материал на минике был еще более техничен с более злобной атмосферой, угнетающим давлением и откровенной яростью. Оттого и разгоралось само ожидание, ведь те два трека должны были войти в предстоящий "...Ad Leones".

 

Конечно же, группа не просто продолжает реализовывать свои идеи, но, несмотря на огромный стаж, до сих пор растет и даже немного взрослеет (если это слово здесь уместно). "Бестиал" и ранее не болели слабостью к сложному исполнению, но теперь музыку можно стопроцентно отнести к Technical Death Metal. Синкопирование риффов увеличилось в два, а может, и три раза. Тем не менее вся эта ломанная структура не разрывает нервные окончания, а вполне внятно впивается своими клещами в мозг (костный!). Сладкая и в то же время сильно обжигающая иллюзия от музыки не дает расслабиться ни на минуту. Все это благодаря страшной атмосфере, протыкающую своими иглами каждую клетку чувствительной плоти.

 

Несмотря на замороченную структуру, в музыке все же прослеживается некая олдовость, в чем, собственно, группу упрекнуть никак нельзя. Не знаю, повлияли ли как-то на новый материал американцы Job For A Cowboy, но чем-то музыка стала очень схожа. Может быть, атмосферным давлением, а может быть, и прогрессивной структурой, но как бы там не было, схожесть есть. Вот для любителей подобного "насилия" диск к прослушиванию просто обязателен.

Quale miglior argomento del massacro ad opera degli antichi romani perpetuato ai danni dei seguaci di Cristo secoli fa, usandoli come pasto per i leoni nelle arene dell’impero, per un album di devastante death metal?

 

Ci hanno pensato i Bestial Deform (ma non è la prima volta nella storia del metal estremo), band russo capitanata dal chitarrista e cantante Kirill Ulanenkov, al quinto lavoro della sua lunga carriera.

Gruppo che nasce nel 1992, con quattro full length alle spalle (l’ultimo, Stop the Christianity!, risalente ad una decina di anni fa) più un terzetto di ep di cui Severed to Pieces vedeva la band tornare sul mercato un paio di anni fa, ed un sound che pesca dal death metal old school di matrice statunitense fino a questo buon lavoro che torna a far parlare dei Bestial Deform in modo lusinghiero.

Il leader, che tra il 1997 ed il 1999 ha sciolto e rinnovato completamente la sua creatura, sa il fatto suo e si sente, il songwriting pur non regalando innovazioni è di buon livello, il gruppo macina metal estremo come tritaossa e complice una produzione cristallina i brani esplodono in una carneficina metallica dall’impatto terrificante.

Abbondano chiaramente le tematiche splatter, carni lacerate dalle zanne dei terribili ed affamati felini, belve fameliche che pasteggiano a carne umana, soddisfacendo la brama di sangue dei sadici astanti in un delirio di violenza e pazzia.

Blast beat a manetta, riff pesantissimi, growl terrificanti e solos che scarnificano le carni più e meglio che le fauci dei leoni, fanno dell’album un massacro sonoro senza pietà, il gruppo tiene altissima la tensione tra ritmi cadenzati e accelerazioni furiose, scaraventandoci nell’arena a fianco dei cristiani, pasto succulento delle indomabili belve.

Quaranta minuti senza un attimo di respiro con Spirit. Rage. Flash e Christianos ad Leones a salire sul podio dei brani portanti di questo riuscito e quanto mai trascinante lavoro.

…Ad Leones risulta così un buon ritorno per il gruppo di San Pietroburgo, sicuramente in grado di soddisfare i palati dei deathsters sparsi per il globo.

Creatura nata nell'estate del 1990 a San Pietroburgo dalla mente di Kirill Ulanenkov (chitarra, voce e testi), i Bestial Deform giungono al quinto full-length in carriera, intitolato "... Ad Leones".

 

Dedicato, come suggerisce il titolo, alla macchina di morte messa su dagli antichi romani per eliminare i nemici cristiani ma, soprattutto, per soddisfare i biechi istinti sadici del popolo dell'epoca; anelante di assaporare le convulsioni, l'agonia e la morte di coloro che venivano letteralmente fatti a pezzi e quindi divorati dai leoni.

 

Un tema a onor del vero non troppo originale, come dimostra la leggendaria 'Christians to the Lions', song dei Behemoth di "Thelema.6" (2000). La differenza, tuttavia, c'è, poiché in "... Ad Leones" l'argomento incentrato sullo strazio della carne umana, lacerata da artigli e zanne, compare un po' ovunque, con specifico riferimento alla finale 'Christianos ad Leones'.

 

Tematiche a parte, il sound dei Bestial Deform richiama con decisione il death metal floridiano dell'inizio degli anni '90. Non poteva che essere una circostanza altamente probabile, ovviamente, dato atto del loro anno di nascita. Tuttavia, Ulanenkov non hai mai voluto abbandonare quel flavour originario, nemmeno quando, nel 1997, ha sciolto la band per riformarla, completamente rinnovata, nel 1999.

 

Anche per lo stile, quindi, si deve richiamare una scarsa innovazione rispetto ai canoni di quello che, oggi, si definisce old school death metal. "... Ad Leones", difatti, non si muove mai, nemmeno per un secondo, da un'interpretazione assolutamente scolastica della questione; lasciando ben poco spazio all'immaginazione.

 

Ulanenkov e compagni sono gente che ha masticato e mastica death metal tanto e bene. Lo si può percepire con molta facilità, nel loro sound. Il retroterra culturale è ampio e spesso, e condiziona pesantemente, è proprio il caso di dirlo, l'impatto acustico di canzoni dure, asciutte, arcigne come 'I Am Alone. I Exist. I Am God', per citarne una. Canzone in cui è chiaramente assaporabile il gusto forte dell'heavy che, come da definizione, deve necessariamente far parte della miscela formante l'old school. Anzi, tornando alla già citata 'Christianos ad Leones', questo sentore si fa intenso, penetrante, come quello della carne in decomposizione. E, fra un blast-beats e l'altro, si possono trovare - pure - brandelli putridi di tessuto slayeriano.

 

Per quanto sopra, "... Ad Leones" mostra la corda abbastanza in fretta. L'ensemble russo riesce a centrare la progettazione del proprio marchio di fabbrica, su questo non ci sono dubbi, ma difetta parecchio nel songwriting. Scontato sì da dar luogo alla materializzazione del nemico numero uno di chi scrive musica: la noia.

 

Il disco non è però da buttar via. La grande esperienza dei Bestial Deform si fa sentire per cui, almeno, esso può essere preso come buon metro di riferimento per giudicare l'esattezza tipologica del genere che rappresenta: la vecchia scuola.

Mientras escuchaba lo nuevo de esta veterana banda rusa, navegaba en la red buscando más datos referentes a la historia de Bestial Deform. Entre otras cosas, leí una review en la que los comparaban con Behemoth, tildándolos de copia de la banda de Nergal. Vamos a poner las cosas en claro: Bestial Deform se formaron en el año 1990 y su primer grabación data de 1992 (el Demo "Worship to Madness"), por lo que resulta un poco absurdo considerar a éstos rusos como una banda seguidora de Behemoth, cuando Bestial Deform son más antiguos y, como si fuera poco, Behemoth comenzaron a tocar Death Metal varios años después de haberse formado y con varios discos sobre sus espaldas ya.

Yendo estrictamente a lo que Bestial Deform hacen, pues cabe decir que siguen los pasos de Morbid Angel, Deicide y el material más solemne y brutal de otros veteranos como Vader. Desconozco parte del material de BD, tan sólo pude escuchar el disco previo a su separación en 1997 ("Bellum Contra Omnes", del año 1996) y el primer disco tras su regreso en 1999 ("The Second Coming", año 2004). Nunca me parecieron una gran banda y "...ad Leones" no escapa a esa apreciación. Mas, hay que decir todo completo, tienen una presencia sonora imponente y demuestran tener muy en claro qué y cómo hacerlo.

Majestuosos, ultra-heavys, certeros en su propuesta y con una identidad muy bien definida, Bestial Deform es de esas bandas que ganan a base de potencia antes que calidad, persistencia antes que carisma, y brutalidad antes que magia. No resulta fácil encontrar grandes canciones, aunque podría destacar a pistas como "Severed to Pieces" (la más ganchera del disco) y la intrincada "Hoc est", verdaderos aciertos en todos los aspectos, siendo mi gran favorita "Christianos ad Leones!" y su oscura majestuosidad a la Morbid Angel. Sin embargo, lo de ellos no gira en torno a las grandes composiciones sino en rededor de otras cualidades. Por ejemplo, la profunda y gutural voz de Kirill (quien además es guitarrista), imponente de principio a fin. La aplastante base rítmica conformada por Dmitry (bajo; toca la guitarra también) y Anton (batería) no se queda atrás en su afán de crear atmósferas demoledoras. Las guitarras, si bien no lucen, cumplen con su objetivo de dar forma a riffs monstruosos y solemnes, con un sonido acorde a la idea (responsabilidad del ya mencionado Kirill y Alexey). Todos cumpliendo con sus roles en equipo, sin buscar el lucimiento personal, trabajando como una pieza homogénea y pesada, muy pesada.

Digamos, como para ir cerrando, que se nota la vasta experiencia de éstos tipos en el rubro, aunque no les sobren las grandes ideas. Podría decir que compensan la falta de grandes composiciones con una entrega y bestialidad envidiables. ¿Alcanza para equilibrar la balanza? Sí, digamos que sí. La trayectoria de la banda hace que sea merecido un reconocimiento.

This is the fifth album from Bestial Deform, a Russian death metal band.

 

Bestial Deform were created in 1990, so it’s safe to say they have a lot of experience playing death metal. This is their first album since 2005 and features both new songs and older ones that have been re-recorded.

 

The band play a death metal style influenced by the old-school 90s scene, and come across as a mix of Morbid Angel’s interesting approach, Immolation’s slithering riffs and Hate Eternal’s blasting fury.

 

Bestial Deform have a talent for this type of thing, that much is clear. With good ideas that are ably translated into gratifying riffs, these are enjoyable songs that have a very warm, satisfying production. With decent variety and pacing across the songs, as well as blast beats that hit the spot, …Ad Leones does what it sets out to do in no uncertain terms.

 

The singer has a particularly good voice. He seems born for the style, with a guttural roar that evokes base aggression and professional delivery in equal measure. Very tasty.

 

This is an album that unashamedly shows its roots and influences on its sleeves, and is one that I easily find myself listening to again and again. If you’re looking for a quality album of pure death metal then you can do a lot worse than this.

This 'Ad Leones' is the eleventh release of this band from St. Petersburg. I have never heard of them to be honest. Of those eleven releases, there are five full length albums and the remaining releases are singles, demos and EP’s. None of these releases has ever reached the offices of the Lords. Perhaps, this album means the crossing to Western Europe. They play brutal death metal in the style of American bands, although I sense some hints of Kataklysm. All in all this is not a bad album at all. The metal is furious, varied, brutal and the album has a great sound. The music features blasts and double bass, deep grunts, screams and some in some passages it is difficult not to move along. After more spins I also came to the conclusion that this band is actually more melodic than you would guess at first glance.

 

You might, as an observant reader, think that you've already read this review before. I however deny such allegations strongly, because I am averse to cutting and pasting. Each review is written from scratch. However, I will not deny that a certain recognition might be possible still. And that is entirely due to this record and all those other countless similar albums., and similar albums simply get similar reviews. ‘Ad Leonas’ sadly is a typical example of albums I cannot recommend. I mean, what they do, they do well, but it has been done so many times before and often better as well. There is nothing really remarkable whatsoever about this album, it is just one of many. On the other hand there is certainly no reason to advise against this album , because in the genre this is quite a descent release. But only descent doesn’t cut it. And the lyrics are really plain childish.

Bestial Deform je bend iz Sankt Petersburga u Rusiji i postoji još od 1990. godine. Njihov peti Full-Length album ''…Ad Leones'' je izašao 15. marta prošle godine kao co-release Satanath Records-a, More Hate Productions-a i Musica Hibrida-e, i ovo je njegova recenzija.

 

 

Horsko pjevanje u čijoj se pozadini čuje konstantna rika, rulja koja pozdravlja masakr, plač novorođenčeta, intro koji vas uvodi u ovo nevjerovatno buđenje ričuće death metal zvijeri spremne za kidanje, čerupanje i proždiranje svega ispred sebe.

 

 

 

Na drugoj numeri bend nam odmah direktno poput stisnute šake u lice servira svoju brutalnost. Energija pjesme me je potpuno oduvala. Odlični oštri growl vokali, muzika je beskompromisan death metal. Rifovi melju, bubnjevi su ubitačni i sve ima genijalan šmek. Negdje na sredini pjesme izranja i mid tempo riff u kojem dupla pedala prati trzaj koji se kasnije ritmički ubrzava, praćen basom i u cjelini imajući orijentalno-egipatski prizvuk na koji su nas već navikavali velikani death metala još od Death-a. Druga pjesma nakon dižućeg početka postaje praćena brutalnim tremolo melodijama, sa odličnom bas sekcijom. Negdje po sredini imamo još jedan groovy dio koji nas uvodi u prelijep melodijski pasaž, koji kulminira maltene black metal dijelom, nakon čega se taj ciklus opet ponavlja : početno ''dizanje'' pa groove dio kojim se pjesma završava.

 

 Treća pjesma počinje ''punjenjem'' koje odmah prelazi u odličnu tremolo melodiju. Ta dva dijela se smjenjuju. Nevjerovatan rifovski dio na refrenu, gdje je growl vokal praćen recitovanjem. Genijalno ! Izgleda da momci vole sredinom pjesama ubaciti po jedan sporiji mid tempo pasaž, što meni odgovara, razbija monotoniju konstantnog blast beat-a. Taj dio se ponavlja još jednom nakon refrena i konstantno se razvija da bi završio pjesmu. Oprobanog aranžmanskog početka se drže i u sljedećoj pjesmi, punjenje koje se pretvara u nemilosrdni death metal. Melodijski dio je upečatljiv i uvodi u sporiji dio koji nakon razrade koja me je tremolom podsjetila na Deeds Of Flesh, Vile, i sl.bendove, postepeno evoluira u mračno clean razlaganje, a odmah nakon toga se vraća početnim djelovima. Svaki segment pjesme je odličan sam po sebi.

 

Samo ime iduće pjesme mi je zvučalo simpatično, melodičan black metal tremolo-intro nas uvodi u brz getenburški tip ritma, koji se pretvara u kreativan rif koji vozi. Sredinom pjesme death-rifove prati lijepa melodija, nakon toga upečatljivi ''ratnički'' rifovi se smjenjuju sa 'već pomenutim djelovima. Odlična numera.

 

Hoc Est se ne razlikuje od ostalih pjesama, mada počinje malo sporije nego prethodnice, ali odmah nakon umjerenijeg početka počinje death metal masakr, kombinacija fast tremolo-a i rifova. Početni rif srednjeg tempa sada uz drugačiji bubanjski aranžman po sredini melje, poslije njega se vraća još jednom. Imamo i zanimljivu varijaciju iz koje se diskretno izdvaja jeziva solo melodija. I kada pomislimo da su momci sve rekli sa ovom pjesmom, iznenada upada odličan dio koji polako nestaje u fade out-u.

 

 

 

Pretposljednja pjesma ide po oprobanom šablonu prethodnih, ''punjenje'' kao uvod u blast beat-ove koji se smjenjuju sa klasičnim death metal rifoma. Vokali uz spori dio upadaju odlično i energično, i ovi djelovi su meni kao death metal vokalu omiljeni za pjevanje upravo zbog količine moći sa kojom upadaju. IzPrelijep melodičan epic pasaž koji me je podsjetio na Sarpanitum-ov ''By Virtuous Reclamation''. Nakon break-a nas uvodi u dug growl kojim se pjesma završi.

 

Poslednja pjesma počinje odzvanjanjem bubnja koji nas uvodi u arenu gdje se nevini žrtvuju krvožednim zvijerima, i rif nakon njega se pretvara u odličnu melodiju. Sporiji pasaž nas uvodi u cirkularno ponavljanje svakog dijela, dok ne dođe do sredine, gdje se tremolo melodija smjenjuje sa groovy rifom, koj se kasdnije inkorporira u aranžman. Ubitačan dio u kojem vokal refrenskim ponavljanjem ''Christianos'' postiže odličan efekat. Rika lavova, navijanje rulje na jednom od djelova. Na kraju možemo čuti lavove koji proždiru svoj masakrirani plijen, isto kao što je mene ova zvijer od albuma.

 

Na čitavom albumu vidimo prisustvo mnogih školi, dosta uticaja Morbid Angel-a, Suffocation-a i ostalih old-school velikana, mnoštvo upečatljivih melodija poput onih u Immolation-ovoj ''Majesty And Decay'', Blood Red Throne-ove ''Children Shall Endure)''­, ali sve je to odrađeno sa unikatnim ličnim šmekom.

The choir singing in the background of the constant beastlike roaring introduces you to this incredible awakening of roaring death metal beasts, ready to tear, plucking and devouring everything in front of them. The band hits you like a fist right in the face, delivering their brutality, energy that completely blows away. Excellent sharp growl vocals, grinding riffs, deadly drums. In the whole album we see the presence of many schools, a lot of influence of Morbid Angel's, Suffocation's and other old-school champions, a multitude of striking melodies, but it's all done with a unique personal charm and each segment of the song is great itself. Some tremolo passages have oriental Egyptian note, typical for death metal. a note that we were already accustomed to by giants from Death to Morbid Angel, such as those in the Immolation's 'Majesty And Decay', Blood Red Throne and their '' Children Shall Endure '' and those alike. So this Full Length release combines brutal and deep tremolo melodies, beautiful melodic passages, almost black metal parts, some 'fine-grained' 'tremolos that sometimes remind me of great moments of Deeds Of Flesh, Vile, and those alike, all followed by ''warrior''-like riffs. The best moments: '' Chariots '' - an ingenious riff on the part of the chorus, where the growl vocals accompanied by mantric chanting. '' Christianos Ad Leones '' - Pernicious part where chorused vocals repeating '' Christianos '' achieved a great effect. And as an outro, roaring lions devour their prey massacred, same as I was devoured by this beast of an album.

Después de mucho tiempo de ausencia (su último trabajo data de 2005), vuelve a escena el veterano cuarteto ruso Bestial Deform, integrado por Kirill Ulanenkov (guitarra, voz), Dmitry Galkin (bajo), Anton Fedeha (batería) y Alexey Veselov (guitarra). El regreso es en sentido figurado, ya que este en 2014 habían editado un EP de solo dos temas.

Para aquellos que ya conozcan a Bestial Deform, no hay aquí nada nuevo para ofrecer, pero para quienes no la conocen, se encontraran con una más que correcta banda de death metal enraizado en los 90’s, muy similar en su estilo a bandas como Deicide o Vader.

“… Ad leones” es un álbum que muestra sus raíces e influencias en sus casi 39 minutos de duración, por lo que si estás buscando death old school, acá está tu próxima compra.

Gli anni passano, ma i Bestial Deform non cambiano per nulla. Dalla nascita del gruppo e dalla pubblicazione del debutto "Together We'll Destroy The World" (1994) sono trascorse oltre due decadi ed è rimasto il solo cantante-chitarrista Kirill Ulanenkov della formazione originale. Ora è accompagnato da figure comunque note ad Aristocrazia quali Dmitry Galkin (basso e seconda voce) e Anton Fedeha (batteria), entrambi membri dei Septory, e da Alexey Veselov (chitarra), mente degli Ethir Anduin. La voglia di suonare death metal come la vecchia scuola ha insegnato non è tuttavia venuta a mancare.

 

Il precedente ep "Severed To Pieces" ha rappresentato solo l'antipasto, la portata principale è giunta con l'uscita del quinto album "...Ad Leones", che racchiude sia pezzi di quell'opera ("Symbol Of Salvation" e "Severed To Pieces") sia del singolo antecedente del 2007 "Aut Caesar, Aut Nihil" ("Together We'll Destroy The World", titolo probabilmente ripreso dal loro primo lavoro, e "I Am Alone, I Exist. I Am God").

 

Che la formazione puntasse su una proposta sfrontata, anticristiana e fossilizzata sul modo di interpretare il death metal degli anni che contano lo si sapeva bene. Pur partendo da una premessa scontata anche in questa circostanza, non mancano comunque le tracce di buon valore: "Spirit. Rage. Flash", "I Am Alone. I Exist. I Am God" e "Christianos Ad Leones".

 

Certamente le tematiche sono trite e ritrite, ad esempio "Christianos Ad Leones" non può non rimandare immediatamente alla behemothiana "Christians To The Lions". Allo stesso modo la sadica carneficina sonora dei Bestial Deform pare essere perlopiù improntata su una serie di soluzioni e sviluppi ritmici — sia di chitarra che di batteria — che tendono talvolta a palesarne l'omogeneità e in alcuni frangenti anche la prevedibilità, ma quando si ascolta un disco simile poco importa, olio di gomito e legnate a profusione fanno bene alla salute. Del resto la band era una seconda linea già in tempi passati e lo è tuttora, sempre in grado però di mantenere con dignità il proprio ossequioso modo di vivere il death metal piacevole e di impatto .

 

Come le grandi squadre non possono raggiungere traguardi di rilievo affidandosi esclusivamente al talento dei campioni, così anche il panorama musicale viene alimentato e mantenuto in vita pure da compagini di abili mestieranti, capaci di soddisfare le esigenze degli ascoltatori. I Bestial Deform si confermano solidi rappresentanti di tale categoria.

Что можно сказать, держа в руках первый за более чем 10 лет студийный альбом питерских мясников Bestial Deform?

 

Например, «Ну, наконец-то»! Конечно, в последние несколько лет группа была активна на релизы, но либо это были переиздания былых работ 20-летней давности, либо вышедший три года назад 2-песенный сингл, как бы намекавший на новый материал. Намеки намеками, но вот он, новейший «…Ad Leones», долгожданный и свирепый, настоящее возвращение и к корням, и к своему пьедесталу одной из самых мощных в прошлом (да и настоящем) групп России и СНГ. Те, кто помнит самые первые записи Bestial Deform, знают о суровом лирическом направлении коллектива, и никаких изменений в этом плане не произошло. Христиан? Ко львам! Такое вот почитание древней античной традиции. Конечно, многие могут оскорбиться, поддавшись моде на толерантность, но история хранит немало свидетельств и более суровых казней религиозных последователей в Римской Империи. Да и известный хит поляков Behemoth «Christians To The Lions» снискал гораздо больше почитателей, чем противников. Питерцы решили дать свой ответ, причем целым альбомом.

Музыка Bestial Deform является свидетельством как следования олдскульным традициям, так и творческого роста и умения подать записанное красиво и мощно. Обновленный состав под предводительством бессменного лидера Кирилла Уланенкова уверенно держит этот курс, убивая сразу всех зайцев на пути к цели. В чем-то здесь заметно мелодическое влияние тех же Behemoth, в чем-то - даже Suffocation и Cannibal Corpse в их отсылках к брутальному трэш-металлу. Но при этом группа остается собой, сохранив собственный саунд, который, будучи пронесенным через годы, воплотился в новые песни, львиная доля которых реально убойная. Две из них мы уже слышали ранее – на том самом сингле «Severed To Pieces». А трек «Together We’ll Destroy The World» является своеобразная дань уважения недавно переизданному дебютному альбому. Учитывая, как долго пришлось ждать «…Ad Leone», несложно догадаться, как долго музыканты копили этот материал, вынашивали его, пропускали через злобу и ярость, чтобы получить такой вот добротный релиз. Конечно, хочется надеяться, что на следующий альбом у Bestial Deform уйдет гораздо меньше времени.

Если же вы нашли в себе силы приобщиться к новейшим переизданиям Bestial Deform, то и для сабжа вам придется оставить местечко. Любителям олдскульного, но современно звучащего дэт-металла рекомендуется.

Боевая машина под предводительством Кирилла Уланенкова уже почти тридцать лет под стягами Рогатого пробивает дорогу отечественному дэт металлу, перемалывая кости блаженных и гниющие потроха фанатов лжепророков. Последний на данный момент шедевр «… Ad Leones», созданный группой - прекрасное тому подтверждение и зазубренный кол в зад всем, кто неоднократно пытался списать Bestial Deform в архив. Ты считаешь, что являешься фанатом смертельного металла? Ты просто обязан иметь альбом в своей коллекции! Ты хочешь узнать, как обстоят дела на российской дэт металл сцене? Послушай этот альбом и поймешь, что нашей стране есть чем гордиться! Тебе нравятся предыдущие работы Bestial и ты еще не купил «… Ad Leones»? Тогда какого чёрта ты медлишь? «… Ad Leones» - это не только, пожалуй, лучший дэт металл альбом, выпущенный российской командой за последние годы, это живая классика, способная уверенно конкурировать на международном рынке не только в андеграунде, но и пригрозить пальцем скуксившимся корифеям жанра, забывающим как должен звучать настоящий классический Металл Смерти.

The number of Russian albums in my collection is growing and while the majority still is located in the Power/Prog genre also some Death Metal can be found there.

Recently I reviewed an album by a band called “Dig Me No Grave” and here comes the next. Hailing from Saint Petersburg Bestial Deform have already been founded back in 1990 so it is not an overstatement to call them veterans of the Russian scene. There is a long list of ex members so it does not come as surprise that “…ad Leones” is only their fifth full length album.

 

Similar to other Russian DM bands like the mentioned Dig Me No Grave or Grond these guys can roughly be put into the Old School Death Metal category. They have implemented elements from the classic Tampa bands as well as some Scandinavian riffs and melodies. Another good point of reference would be their neighbors from Vader.

 

Compared to Dig Me No Grave the sound here is a bit more straight-forward and slightly cleaner. That does not say that there is no grit to be found here but Bestial Deform are opting for a more classic and traditional style of DM. They are switching between mid-tempo and high-speed attacks for large parts of the records. There are also some of the obligatory slow and groovy parts but only in smaller doses and not as extended than on some of their peers’ albums.

 

The songwriting does not offer too many surprises as the riffs are very reminiscent of what we have heard before. However, they are executed with enthusiasm and perfect technic so I won’t complain. Alexey Veselov and Kirill Ulanenkov are acting as a furious unit while Anton Fedeha is trying his best to completely destroy his drum kit. He is implementing time changes and tempo shifts without taking out the flow of the songs. Memorable main leads are building the basis for atmospheric tracks and are supplemented by some fierce solos.

 

Kirill is also doing the vocals on “…ad Leones” and his delivery is up there with the best of the scene. Although growling very deep I have been able to understand what he was singing about most of the time. Guitarists taking over vocal duties as well is not too common but it works pretty great here.

 

The production is heavy and thick providing for that brutal feeling everyone is craving for when looking for a new DM album to add to the collection. So in case you are not looking for the next big thing or anything brimming with innovation “…ad Leones” is a safe bet.
