Wulfiem are a solo project from Spain that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of his 2009 album "De Profundis" which was re-issued by Satanath Records in the year of 2013.
A very dark and avant garde sounding intro starts off the album before adding in more of a fast and raw black metal sound that also utilizes a great amount of blast beats and grim yet high pitched screams and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When solos and leads are utilized they add more to the darkness and chaos that comes out of the music while also adding in a touch of melody and a small amount of keyboards can be heard briefly on a couple of tracks and the songs go to more of a raw second wave of black metal while also updating it for 2009 along with some speed that almost borders on war metal and there is also a brief use of melodic chants and clean singing and one song also utilizes growls for a short period and towards the end acoustic guitars find their away in a song.
Wulfheim played a style of black metal on this recording that was very raw and chaotic while also adding in epic structures at times and the music also ignored all of the modern trends of that era, the production sounds very powerful and heavy while the lyrics cover betrayal, depression, spirits, hate and rage themes.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Wulheim and if you are a fan of raw black metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Whispering Sadness" and "The Gravedigger".
