Raw black metal disteso su un’unica composizione di 28’43”, per questa band i cui componenti sono O, chitarra e voce, J, basso, tastiere e voce, B, batteria e voce. Un trio che pare abbia nazionalità composita: Francia, Svizzera e Belgio. Poche informazioni fornite dalle stesse etichette, nel concreto però “Preastigitum Altareas”, appunto il titolo del lungo brano nell’album, espone un black metal guerrafondaio e ruvido, registrato in maniera approssimativa. Le varie sezioni, tutte veloci, vengono intervallate da momenti ambient oscuri. È un abisso infernale “Vvltvre” e la stessa componente occulta fuoriesce spesso e nella quasi mezzora di durata dimostra essere una composizione maligna.
An international project comprised of members from France, Switzerland and Belgium, Ancient Moon is an ambient black metal project that has lurked in the shadows since the ’90s. While not much information is available on the interwebz, a few sources have claimed that that band spent their early years peddling ritualistic ambient music, only recently moving towards the blackened realms. Judging by the dense sound of the band’s debut full length, Vvltvre, it seems completely feasible that this trio has spent time in those desolate reaches of the ambient underground.
Co-released on CD by Satanath Records (Russia), Cold Raw Records (United Kingdom) and Metal Throne Productions (Greece) in April of 2015, Vvltvre features a single, near-thirty minute track titled “Preastigitum Altareas”. Focusing on suffocating atmospheres and swirling dissonance, the track constantly pulses between punishing black metal and unsettling ambiance. The album moves from quiet brooding to dissonant miasmic black metal to jarring, uneasy moments of dark ambient.
The album begins with distant, grainy trem riffing amid a bed of quiet ambient noise. All at once, the guitars come into focus while a cacophonous crash of blasting percussion and howling background noises bring the volume up to a listenable level. The trem riffs continue to fire, strangely melodic alongside the jarring noise, while the drums focus on frenetic double bass rhythms with an array of crashing and clanging cymbals. Anguished screams and droning, bassy notes lie atop the music, bringing another shade of darkness to the murky sound. The grueling din occasionally subsides to allow introspective moments of quietude which are again replaced by the disparaging barrage of dense black metal.
Vvltvre is one of those unsettling listens that rips and tears at your subconsciousness while it’s playing. It’s noxious and punishing, with moments of quietude to ease the suffering. It’s a well constructed effort that seems to hover on the brink of collapsing under its own weight, but never succumbs to such a fate. The instrumentation is purposely choppy and jarring, but it certainly doesn’t make for an easy listen. Regardless of what the band was doing prior to this album, Vvltvre is a solid first step towards the light for this mysterious international act.
With unnamed members hailing from Belgium, France and Switzerland, a cover that is loaded with arcane symbolism and a single track making up the band’s debut album, it is fair to say that Ancient Moon are something of a mysterious proposition. Clearly keen to leave the music to do the talking, the band are an unseen force, not unlike the dreaded Ringwraiths, visible in form only and all the more terrifying for their lack of substance. The album, meanwhile, offering up its single track, is an exercise in dark magic, with each of the band members credited not only with an instrument but also with ‘ceremony’, the latter presumably referring to the quasi-religious vocals that lie deep in the heart of the sonic murk.
‘Preastigitum Altareas’ is a work of supreme confidence and conviction. A searing, icy indictment of humanity, it takes its time to build to a crushing tsunami of noise, with a single icy riff opening proceedings. When the band do expand the palette, it is to unleash feral riffs and mechanistic percussion, all washed over with a production job that throbs with bass and sizzles with treble. Brutal and uncompromising, it is made all the more disconcerting by monastic chanting that emanates from the depths, the band engaging in a perverted ceremony that mocks faith and makes a farce of religious worship. Cold and inhuman, there is no redeeming feature for those not inculcated into the ways of black metal to hold onto and this is as extreme as it gets, the band blazing away in an effort to conjure the darkness and shroud the earth in obsidian blackness. With the music ebbing and flowing across the thirty-minute run time, the feeling is very much symphonic in nature, with the music moving subtly form one mood and form to the next, and the result is a piece of music that is compellingly deep and dark, and you have to admire the band’s ambition in refusing to break the piece up into separate tracks for ease of consumption.
In a world increasingly ruled by commerce and conformity it is always admirable to come across a band who do things entirely on their own terms, unruffled by a desire to please the masses or dumb down their art. Clearly this is a project of great importance for the members of Ancient Moon and, as such, it has more in common with art than commercial music. With it’s dark, ceremonial artwork and semi-heard incantations, ’vvltvre’ is a mysterious and evocative piece of music that maintains its dark atmosphere throughout. For those with a taste for the extreme, ‘vvltvre’ is a must.

This release contains a single track, Preastigitum Altareas, lasting just under 29 minutes in length.
This is raw, underground Atmospheric/Ambient Black Metal with a fuzzy guitar sound and a deep malevolent aura to it.
Ancient Moon’s Black Metal combines a strong Ambient/Drone influence, resulting in their music being comprised of several levels; layers and layers of darkness and filth are merged together to create a soundtrack of horror and ritualistic nightmare.
The music is hugely atmospheric and speaks of a rolling storm, gathering on the horizon and slowly, inevitably drawing closer, bringing ruin and devastation to all that it touches. This churning maelstrom is dense, impenetrable and evil to the core.
Like any storm, there are moments of calm throughout; Ambient respite amidst the Blackened winds. These are lonely, desolate places though. They act as breathers before the crushing suffocation of the music’s sheer weight is bought to the fore once more.
The singer does a great job of adding further atmosphere and presence to the sound by his assortment of deep cleans, semi-cleans, growls and screams. At times, combined with the music, he sounds downright scary. On occasion his vocals are like chants, at other times they are invocations, at other times they’re announcements; like a dark herald proclaiming the end times, it’s a message to heed and be fearful of. He really does have an excellent voice and his performance is top-of-the-line. Sometimes vicious, sometimes majestic, always intimidating.
The same of which can be said of the music too. In fact, this is less like music and more like an impending unnatural disaster that has been pulled up from Hell and unleashed upon a helpless world to make it die.
Vvulture does its job extremely well and if you like harrowing Black Metal with lots of atmosphere and swirling blackness then Vvulture is definitely for you.

After taking some time off from writing reviews, I've decided to blast my way into the game again. This album was part of a huge package, a large number of CDs from Satanath Records. Now, I don't know why but somehow I have an eye for audible quality. It happens often that I can pick a good CD just by watching the cover and reading the inlay and this time was no exception. This is a very interesting piece of occult black metal.
Ancient Moon is an international project, featuring members from Belgium, France and Switzerland. Quite little else is known about this band. Some people say they have been around since the nineties, but mostly as a ritual ambient project. Only recently that band made the switch towards black metal. Judging from the music on this one-track e.p. I actually believe that. This is a brilliant blend of ambient and black metal and a great approach to the genre.
There's only one track, that's true, but it lasts for twenty eight minutes and can perfectly count as an e.p. The amount of variation is splendid, even to the point of recognizing several different songs within the structure of only one. It opens with far away guitars, right before the whole seriously kicks in with a massive bombast and a dark, pounding atmosphere.
While you can compare this to a lot of black metal bands like Wiegedood, Altar Of Plagues and more, I think it's also safe to mention bands like Sunn O))) or Master Musicians Of Bukkake and even dark ambient deities like Lustmord. This e.p. has it all: impending instrumental passages, soundscapes, haunted screams, ritual chants... Everything you need for those blackened winter nights, even on hot summer days...
Ancient Moon est un projet international partagé entre la Suisse, La France et la Belgique et ils nous présentent leur art très sombre par le biais de cet album sorti chez Satanath Records.
Cette galette se compose d’une seule piste de 29 minutes et elle saura creuser au plus profond de votre âme. L’ambiance est oppressante et sombre et l’atmosphère hypnotique allie un côté brutal avec des blasts destructeurs, des mélodies de guitares glaciales et incisives avec un côté ambient bercé par des nappes de claviers.
Les vocaux varient efficacement, passant de l’incantatoire avec ce côté qu’apprécieront pour sûr les amateurs d’ Attila Csihar, au hargneux et vociféré en conservant au travers des changements cette ambiance lourde, nauséeuse, glaciale et très dérangeante.
Le black metal ritualiste est lugubre à souhait, les breaks atmosphériques précèdent le carnage, le sacrifice progressif de votre âme avec ces riffs qui vous lacèrent, les rythmes qui vous assomment frénétiquement et la voix qui évoquent les forces du Mal. Un véritable résumé de vos pires cauchemars en direct.
Nous saluerons l’efficacité avec laquelle le trio parvient à faire conserver toute attention à l’ auditeur, pris au piège de cet art diabolique et sombre par la force des passages aussi variés que transcendants.
Je me permettrai le néologisme « Malefficace » pour résumer l’effet causé par cet opus oppressant et clairement bien ficelé. Les amateurs d’ambiances sombres seront charmés par cet album des mystérieux Ancient Moon.

Ancient Moon ist ein Multikulti-Projekt bestehend aus drei Leuten aus Belgien, Frankreich und der Schweiz, die mir bislang nicht von anderen Bands her bekannt waren. Wann dieses Projekt genau gegründet wurde, weiß ich nicht. Aber “Vvltvre” ist das einzige musikalische Lebenszeichen bislang. Komisch ist nicht nur, dass es sich bei gerade mal achtundzwanzig Minuten Spielzeit um ein richtiges Album handelt. Noch komischer ist allerdings, dass hier nur ein Songs drauf ist, und der hat trägt noch nicht einmal den Titel des Albums... Sehr seltsam! Nicht so seltsam ist dagegen die Musik, die sogar richtig geil ist. Denn Ancient Moon haben sich dem Ambient Black Metal verschrieben. Hier gibt es zwar auch Geknüppel und richtig bösen Knurrgesang, aber vor allem wird das Gesamtbild durch Keyboards geprägt und auch mal etwas mit melodischem Klargesang unterlegt. Die Mucke ist atmosphärisch und auf Dauer auch hypnotisch. Ein bisschen fühle ich mich an die Australier Midnight Odyssey erinnert, auch wenn Ancient Moon auf Dauer deutlich schneller und gitarrenlastiger sind. Sehr viel mehr gibt es eigentlich nicht zu sagen. Interessant! Hört mal rein!

Gli Ancient Moon sono stati attenti a rendere il loro debutto quanto più possibile indecifrabile: nessun testo, nessuna indicazione, nemmeno alcun nome da parte dei tre artisti che partecipano al progetto, qui identificatisi solo come O, J e B. Internet ci dice che si tratta di personaggi provenienti da Francia, Belgio e Svizzera e che "Vvltvre" è la loro prima prova, ma nulla di più.
"Vvltvre" è un'esperienza estenuante. Si leva senza alcun preavviso dalle più profonde oscurità, dal più nero degli abissi, e fa male. Ritualistico, asfittico, puramente malvagio e assolutamente impenetrabile. Quasi mezzora di disagio e cattiveria condensati in un'unica traccia, un unico brano che fa delle chitarre zanzarose, tipicamente raw, la sua spina dorsale, su cui man mano si stratificano tutti gli altri elementi. Che, a dir la verità, non sono nemmeno tanti: tastiere, batteria e urla di varia natura. Tutti e tre i membri si dilettano dietro al microfono a fasi alterne, regalando un miscuglio di performance ora alla Attila (per non dire vomitose), ora in classico scream, ora in un growl roco e profondissimo.
Il risultato è un album non facile, anzi decisamente ostico, ma ammaliante e di grande fascino, a costo di scendere a patti con una produzione che definire scarna è eufemistico. Eppure anche questa fa parte dell'equazione, della formula studiata dagli Ancient Moon per raggiungere l'equilibrio tra il suddetto approccio ritualistico, incarnato dalle linee vocali più lugubri e dalle aperture atmosferiche, e la furia del black metal, del doppio pedale e della chitarra gelida e accordata tre piani sottoterra. E questa formula, inutile girarci intorno, funziona, anzi, stupisce che in giro non ci siano più formazioni dedite a questa sorta di «atmospheric raw black metal», soprattutto dopo la scomparsa dei controversi e mai dimenticati Velvet Cacoon.

Ancient Moon are an international band with members from Belgium, France and Switzerland that plays an ambient form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Vvlture" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records, Cold Raw Records and Metal Throne Productions.
A very dark, raw and depressive black metal sound starts off the album along with some melodic riffing and after a minute the music goes into more of a faster musical direction that also introduces blast beats and grim screams onto the recording along with some mournful clean singing being utilized at times.
There is only one track on the recording and it is close to 30 minutes in length and the song also brings in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the vocals also get very high pitched and suicidal at times and after awhile more atmospheric and ambient sounds find their way onto the recording along with some synths also being utilized at times while some parts also bring in a small amount of clean guitars.
Ancient Moon brings a style of black metal onto this recording that is very raw, grim, depressive and atmospheric and mixes it with ambient music to create a style of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Ancient Moon are a very great sounding ambient black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording.

Произведено совместно с Cold Raw Records (CRR039) и Metal Throne Productions (MT CD017). Весьма интересный черный интернациональный проект музыкантов из Бельгии, Франции и Швейцарии. Можно даже и назвать их по именам то есть по буквам, много места не займет. J — Bass, Keyboards, Vocals, B — Drums, Vocals, O — Guitars, Vocals. Обратили внимание, что каждый из однобуквенных кроме каких-то инструментов еще и упражняется на вокале? Я тоже заметил.
Satanath Records совместно с парой импортных контор выпустил это весьма сильное и гнетущее в своем роде произведение. Уж будьте уверены, что на такое музицирование есть спрос. В известных кругах. Ибо это суровый и одновременно проникновенный (как скальпель в мясо) комплексный блак-эмбиент и эмбиент-блак. Что не одно и тоже. Кстати на диске Ancient Moon расположен один трак, что тоже весьма показательно. Концепт uber alles. И при том и альбом, и трак имеют свое название. Я же говорю, концепт…
Даже уже взглянув на обложку, можно было бы догадаться о истинной сути этого произведения — мистический оккультный блак-амбиент. Три джентльмена из европы показали довольно-таки высокий класс, презентовав чудовищный по сути ритуал, у которого есть немало последствий, как в частности (для каждого слушателя), так и в целом (истекающих из этого магического артефакта).
Ценители оккультного блака рассмотрят атмосферу данного произведения. А она в первую очередь в полевом смысле обращается к хтоническим демонам, тем существам, которые большую часть своего времени проводят под землей, выходят наружу редко, но метко, устраивая землетрясения, бури и титанические штормы. Это отлично подчеркнуто низкочастотной составляющей диска. Чем она там организована — не сразу и разберешь, но — факты упрямая вещь, колоссы ворочаются, дышат и медленно выгребают на свет. И потому драмсы работают как удары грома, инфразвуковые басы колышат участок земли, где расположен ваш дом, и рев одного из участников предполагает, что жизнь на этой территории в общем-то обречена, приговорена и пр.
Ударные весьма заметны здесь, потому что время от времени они показывают, что ломаются столпы, поддерживающие небесную твердь, и апокалипсис все ближе. И звук при этом — соответственный, как кость гигантского животного переломилась Вообще в амбиенте ударные показывают себя всегда с самой лучшей стороны, и в таких траках есть где развернуться драмммеру — во всяком случае, для создания эпичного землетрясения.
Потом вдруг в дело вползают «органные» клавиши, в настройке откаченные до нормативов будто бы первобытного низкочастотного горна, сделанного из рога монструозного тура. Но это только моменты, а их тут в целом расквартировано очень много, и каждый расшифровать — много времени понадобится. Клавиши лидируют здесь несколько раз, создавая переход к следующему ссостоянию, при том производя прямо-таки могильный холод и разложение.
Общий доминирующий эмбиентальный скрежет организован расщеплением гитарных партий и, возможно, партий клавишей, он организует воздух произведения, такой же сухой, как атмосфера монгольской пустыни. Это фирменный звук блак-эмбиенталистов… и его структура хотя и вроде кажется ближе к высокочастотной стороне спектра, но на самом деле это широкополосный звук, в нем присутствует весь слышимый спектр. Реальный диск все это прекрасно демонстрирует в фубаре со включенным плагином «спектр».
Четко можно идентифицировать двух вокаллеров, где «в них» спрятался третий — тайна покрытая торжествующим здесь повсеместно мраком. Первый — частый инфернальный горловой бас-баритон, «немного», кажется, деформированный для придания статуса верховного жреца в подземном ритуальном действии. (Сей компакт нужно слушать на нормальной громкости). И тогда можно услышать церемонию вызывания не к ночи будь помянутых хтонических демоноидов. Местами там прорывается нечто вроде тенора, также искаженного адскими порывами то ли страсти, то ли ненависти (может это и есть третий голос). Вершит немало дел, конечно, скриминг, полный нечеловеческой ярости и злобы.
Совершенный и специфический образчик ритуального блак-эмбиента, направленный профильному слушателю, кровно заинтересованному в создании минорной (и не только) атмосферы сатанинского подполья. Путешествие по реке Стикс — экстракт тьмы и подземного безумия.

Ancient Moon are quite a mysterious project for the three members act under the names of J, O and B, and nothing more is known. Apparently these guys hail from Belgium, France and Switzerland. I think Vvltvre is their first mutual effort, and it consists of one single piece, called Preastigitum Altareas, clocking almost half an hour.
[personal note: I do appreciate the fact that the sole track and the album itself do have another title]
Oh yes, before taking off: Vvltvre comes in an edition of 500 copies only, and gets released by three of my favourite labels: Russia’s Satanath Records (thanks to Aleksey once again for sending me this wonderful material!), UK-based Cold Raw Records and Greece’s Metal Throne Productions. And a small note about the lay-out: great! It makes the whole even more mystic, occult, mysterious. The cover is just wonderful (a kind of altar, I think, and candles), including the project’s nice sigil / logo; and the picture on the inside makes me wanting to be best friends with those guys, haha…
Anyway, Preastigitum Altareas starts with quite a hypnotic, atmospheric and grim guitar melody, repetitive and melodious, breathing abyssal fog and funereal desolation, supported at the background by a distant noise. And ‘noise’, that’s what after about two minutes sort of defines the core-approach of this act. In a rather cacophonous way, elements from Drone, Black Metal, Blast and Ritual Ambience interfere whole the time, balancing towards the one angle, then again towards the other, all the time strengthening each other towards a whirlwind of apocalyptic Aural Art. I hear aspects from Ævangelist, earlier Void Of Silence, Nihill, Urna, Altar Of Plagues, Gnaw Their Tongues and Khost (amongst tens of others, and still none), yet then again it is quite an own angle Ancient Moon do attend.
Despite being one ‘composition’ only, there is a huge dose of variety, with quite some differentiation in speed, structure, vocal timbres and execution. Though, the atmosphere is a permanently present constant that means nothing but negative feelings: hate, anger, despair, psychosis, frenzy, doom, malignancy, misanthropy, grief, disgust, nihilism. Quite the same ‘feeling’ goes for the production, which indeed is pretty noisy and rusty - maybe even somewhat ‘too’ unpolished? But besides quite distorted outbursts, the atmospheric ambiental passages (like the creepy synth-intermezzo at eighteen minutes or the abruptum-esque organ-pieces at the end) then again sound quite divine (yeah, what a contradictio in terminis).

Tutti gli amanti del black metal più deviato, apocalittico e atmosferico non devono lasciarsi sfuggire questo "Vvltrvre", siete avvisati da subito. Prendete i Wolves in the Throne Room, mescolateli ai Nazxul e a qualcosa di Lunar Aurora, Xasthur e Negura Bunget e avrete una idea abbastanza attendibile di cosa vi troverete di fronte ascoltando questo disco, che si compone di una sola traccia, per quasi mezz'ora di durata.
Le atmosfere sono apocalittiche, esoteriche, nere come la pece, ci troviamo di fronte ad un black metal ritualistico che sembra arrivare da un altro Pianeta, un qualcosa di impalpabile, di maligno, di terrificante.
E' la voce dell'inconscio e dell'aldilà quella che ci propongono questi tre musicisti, che arrivano tutti da nazioni diverse, come Francia, Belgio e Svizzera.
Il fatto di avere a che fare con una unica, lunghissima traccia, non deve trarre in inganno o scoraggiare i più frettolosi, perchè vi assicuro che il tutto è stato ben pensato per tenere alta l'attenzione (e soprattutto la tensione), e la band in questione è abilissima nel dare la sensazione di stacco e ripartenza nell'arco di "Preastigitum Altareas", e quindi di dare quasi l'idea di trovarci davanti a più tracce contenute sotto un unico titolo. I tempi sono quasi sempre velocissimi, le chitarre hanno un sound terrificante che si mescola con dei synth evocativi, malati, assordanti. La voce si alterna tra scream e parti in pulito da pelle d'oca. Il tutto evoca rituali ancestrali e tetri, comandati da questi tre piccoli geni.
Vi assicuro che arriverete alla fine e avrete voglia di riascoltare il disco ancora e ancora, perchè le emozioni che riesce a suscitare sono profonde e cariche di pathos morboso, e il tutto acquisisce ancora più valore se pensiamo che stiamo parlando di un debutto, e chissà cosa potranno offrirci in futuro questi Ancient Moon.
Non resta molto altro da dire a mio avviso. Chiunque ricerchi non solo black metal, ma qualcosa di teso, atmosferico e malato è quasi obbligato a dare una possibilità a questo album, che si piazza di diritto come uno dei migliori dischi di black metal/ambient che io abbia mai avuto il piacere di sentire, suonato con maestria, pensato con genialità e prodotto in maniera tale che la musica contenuta al suo interno risulti come un vortice che risucchia le nostre coscienze e le risputa trasformate e distorte, per un incubo senza fine. Devastante!

Satanath Records brengt ons een ongebruikelijke (voor mij ten minste) plaat in de vorm van Vvltvre, de eerste plaat van van de band Ancient Moon. De band telt drie koppen, welke allemaal afkomstig zijn uit verschillende landen, namelijk: België, Frankrijk en Zwitserland. Deze plaat is door mij ongebruikelijk genoemd, omdat het een full-length is die maar liefst één(!) track kent. De track duurt een klein half uur, dat dan weer wel.
De mix van ambient muziek en blackmetal die ons op deze ene track wordt aangeboden, is zeker weten eentje die niet binnen één luisterbeurt te bevatten valt. Één track van ruim 28 minuten? Nee die luisteren we een flink aantal keer af. Het begin van de track, die Praestigitum Altareas heet, is een dronend gitaarloopje dat enige tijd voortkabbelt. Na bijna twee minuten barst het geweld los. De vocalen die als eerste aan bod komen zijn keelzangachtig. Een beetje zoals ook op de plaat van Asregen en zoals Mayhem op het beroemde De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Dan, na ongeveer vier minuten wordt de keelzang sporadisch afgewisseld met blackmetalvocalen.
Zoals na aanleiding van de lengte van de track wel te raden is, zit deze vol herhaling. De dronende riffs en mysterieuze vocalen werpen hun vruchten af: na amper zeven minuten begint er een soort trance bezit te nemen van je gedachten, zoals deze muziekstijl wel vaker doet. Je sluit je ogen en stukje bij beetje dwaal je meer af in de krochten van dit muziekstuk. Een rustig intermezzo op minuut acht, om even adem te happen, waarna het volgende deel van Vvltvre geïnitieerd wordt. Steeds intensiever klinkende blackmetal neemt de overhand, waardoor de occulte track zijn glans niet verliest ondanks de lange speelduur.
Een blackmetalalbum bestaande uit één track. Een track die meer dan 28 minuten speeltijd inneemt. Wat een stuk om over te schrijven... Gelukkig heeft Ancient Moon een hele bak talent, en door de afwisseling tussen ambient en agressieve blackmetal is dit album er eentje die aangrijpt. De verschillende onderdelen van de track, die redelijk duidelijk gescheiden zijn door rustige passages, zijn allen vergelijkbaar maar niet hetzelfde. Wat mij betreft zet iedereen dit op voor een duistere afdaling in de diepste krochten van dit vette album.

В ростере крайне плодовитого санкт-петебурского лейбла Satanath Records, по правде говоря, не так уж просто найти нечто, достойное хотя бы внимания, не говоря уж о покупке. Но у него, как и у любого лейбла, делающего ставку на количество релизов, в закромах можно отыскать бриллианты. Один из них – дебютный мини-альбом интернациональной формации Ancient Moon. Группа представляет из себя трио, в котором все участники из разных стран (Бельгия, Франция, Швейцария), и все они скрывают свои личности под однобуквенными псевдонимами. Такой ход в данном случае вполне уместен, так как соответствует музыкальному полотну. "Vvtvre" – один получасовой трек под названием "Preastigitum Altareas", разделённый на логические части и представляющий собой ритуал чернейшей Black Metal-магии. Для описания звучания Ancient Moon отлично подходит многозначительное англоязычное слово "obscure" – тёмный, мрачный, таинственный, неясный, размытый... Эта музыка совершенно нечеловеческая, она ни на кого не похожая, сырая (это не та любительская сырость, что вызвана ленью и нищебродством, но сырость продуманная, идейная), иногда уходящая в сплошной лязг и скрежет. В ней много эмбиента: не успокаивающего и расслабляющего, но болезненного и агрессивного. Три вокала, все разные – от демонический визг, сатанинский рёв, горловые завывания а-ля Аттила Чихар. Пройдя этот обряд инициации во тьму, нужно подождать какое-то время, чтобы прийти в себя. Давненько я не был так впечатлён Black Metal-альбомом, особенно в эти дни, когда все, кому не лень, стремятся поиграться в ритуальность и пощеголять знанием духовных материй.

Con Ancient Moon me paso algo que hacía rato no me pasaba: no encontrar casi ninguna referencia a la banda en toda Internet. O sea, algo hay relacionado a este álbum pero muy poco (poquísimo) sobre la banda en sí, al punto que su Facebook prácticamente no tiene actividad. No sé si la idea de la banda es mantenerse desconocida, o si ésta es su idea del under, pero en los tiempos que corren mantenerse demasiado “oculto” es casi un suicidio.
De todos modos, voy a transcribir algo de lo que dice su gacetilla de prensa para introducirnos luego en el disco en sí.
Ancient Moon es un proyecto internacional conformado por tres músicos oriundos de Francia, Bélgica y Suiza, vienen tocando desde los 90’s y este es su disco debut.
La imagen de la banda es coherente con su propuesta (con rostros ocultos y vistiendo túnicas), por lo que si uno se guiara por eso seguro diría que Ancient Moon es una banda de black metal. En efecto, así es, o como ellos prefieren autodenominarse “ritualistic black metal”.
Durante los más de 28 minutos que dura el único tema de la placa, Ancient Moon se da el lujo de pasar por varios momentos unidos por el hilo conductor del género elegido más algunas intervenciones en el ambient a través de pasajes instrumentales, sonando toda la banda muy ajustada y sólida.
No hay mucho más para decir, solo les resta a ustedes descubrir esta banda y tratar de develar el misterio que la envuelve.

„Proč bychom se netěšili, když nám Satan internet dal!“ Tři členové mezinárodního projektu spojili síly pravděpodobně prostřednictvím internetu a svá pravá jména zakryli písmenkovými pseudonymy. Na kytaru nám tedy hraje pan O, basu hobluje mistr J a přidává si k tomu i klávesy. Bicí nástroje pak patří do područí neznámého B. Všichni zainteresovaní se poctivě starají o vokály, jež jsou jedním z primárních znaků rituálně laděného black metalu.
ANCIENT MOON produkují skutečně hodně bizarní hudbu. Přestože není ani ždibec nafintěná, spočívá síla materiálu v hnilobné atmosféře a neotesaně hrubém zvuku (místy je to fakt obrovská prasárna, ale pokud budete mít trpělivost, brzy si zvyknete). V jistých chvílích mi dokonce hudba připomíná české démony CULT OF FIRE, vždyť i tady se ve své podstatě jedná o obdobně černý druh metalového rituálu, ovšem tvorba ANCIENT MOON je ještě mnohem pochmurnější a dosti zásadně inklinuje k black metal ambientu a částečně i k pohřebnímu doomu. A pak samozřejmě ten zvuk… Kytary v případě ANCIENT MOON de facto ani „neznějí“, nerezonují, spíše šumí jako vítr, jehož kadence dosti zásadně narušuje chod ostatních nástrojů, především pak kláves/varhan. No, je to neuvěřitelné, ale soubor veškerých mínusů, obrací celý komplet do jednoho velkého plusu. :) Zkrátka alchymie – kouzlo nechutných ingrediencí, avšak finální lektvar mimořádný!
Co se týče vokálů, tak na tomto místě byste jistě čekali brutální řev zvířecí bestie, ano, tak tomu skutečně je, avšak obrovskou sílu dávají materiálu obřadní nápěvy (sbory), čímž je kouzlo „VVLTVRE“ mnohem více „secret“. Hodně osobité výrazivo ovšem poskytuje i mysticky mručivý přednes, který je v rámci takto ukotveného žánru spíše solidní raritkou. Nestandartní je však také zakomponování jednotlivých úseků do jediné skladby s názvem „Preastigitum Altareas“, jejíž časová stopáž dosahuje necelých devětadvaceti minut. A právě to je v podstatě i jeden z důvodů, proč tento metalový obřad tolik vyniká. Pokud tedy ANCIENT MOON v něčem přesvědčují, pak je to jednoznačně schopnost obloudit posluchačův mozek a v pravit do něho snůšku prošedivělých fantazií. Umění atmosféry přebíjí i ubíjí… všechny a všechno!
„VVLTVRE“ vnímám jako exkluzivní undegroundové zboží. Má sílu, má kouzlo a milovníky nevšedností dokonale vpraví do nirvány. Pro zbytek metalového publika bude album absolutní blbostí, smetím na cestě, prachem na skříni a čert vím čím ještě. Já osobně ovšem patřím do té první skupiny a vesele si to užívám. Pokud např. dobře vycházíte se zvukem takových DARKSPACE (pro většinu posluchačů nemožný úkol), existuje šance, že se srovnáte i s rituálním příspěvkem od ANCIENT MOON. Minimalistické, leč osobité a zákeřně temné!

The three piece ANCIENT MOON is an international trio with musicians hailing from three different countries, i.e. Belgium, France and Switzerland. Hiding behind only one initial, the band members manage to remain anonymous. And after listening to their first release “Vvltvre”, I can imagine that this happened for a reason, since no one really knows who's responsible for this waste of raw materials. The album has only one long song, surprisingly not titled 'Vvltvre' but 'Preastigitum Altareas'. Running for about half an hour, this song is an absolute nerve wrecker. The production is so raw and metallic that it sounds like trains colliding when the band is in full boring swing. To calm down every now and then, there are interspersed pseudo ambient keyboard parts that completely kill any nerve of mine. And as if this would not be enough, some keyboard effects of the most mind-numbing kind kill some of better moments of this tedious chaos. Sorry, as much as I like some of the contemporary Black Metal bands, as much ANCIENT MOON are none of these.
