One of Russia’s oldest Death Metal acts for sure is this one: Bestial Deform, created in 1990 and still active. There was an official break for a couple of years at the end of last century, and the past decade there was nearly anything going on (the last album, Stop The Christianity!, was released in 2005). But since I do consider Bestial Deform as one of the strongest and most influential Death Metal acts from Russia, I am truly pleased by the band’s return.
Severed To Pieces is a two-tracker, conceived by Kirill Ulanenkov (v, g), Anton ‘Algor’ Fedeha (d), and Dmitry ‘Deiron’ Galkin (b, bv). Both tracks, Severed To Pieces and Symbol Of Salvation, bring a modern yet, at the same time, rather timeless form of universal Tech-Death, but I don’t want to refer to the progressive current. With ‘tech’ I’d rather take the ‘historical’ riffing à la VoiVod or Coroner in mind. Anyway, this stuff is fast, energetic, power-driven and uncompromising, with a subtle edge of grinding nastiness. If this is the omen for an upcoming full length, I am sure the whole Death Metal Society will impatiently waiting, because the performance of such great compositional craftsmanship is very tasty!

РАЗРУБЛЕННЫЙ НА КУСКИ. Вот так ласково и нежно называется последний мини-альбом культовой Питерской группы BESTIAL DEFORM. Всего два добрых и поучительных трека, которые научат вас по-настоящему возлюбить ближнего своего, а также состраданию, братолюбию и милосердию. Каждый прекрасный звук и каждый мелодичный аккорд пропитан любовью и истинной верой в нашего спасителя. Хотелось бы отметить, что музыканты группы очень ответственно относятся к совокупности учений и духовных практик православия.
Альбом вышел ограниченным тиражом в конце прошлого года на идеалогически правильном лейбле Satanath Records, совместно с православными братьями Grotesque Sounds Productions и Heretic Records. Только для сентиментальных христиано-послушных граждан.
Short and anything but sweet, this limited edition EP from Bestial Deform (just 500 copies on CD) is a thrillingly toxic blend of flesh-crawling death metal and devilish groove that benefits from a strong production job, impressive musicianship and suitably grotesque artwork. Having been active since 1990, the Russian band have along and impressive history with four full-length albums to their name as well as a slew of Eps and demos. This disc, released back in 2014, showcases the band at their devilish best and should be high on the list for any death metal aficionados.
The EP opens with the demonic title track, a crushing, malevolent piece of work that sounds like Slayer and Lamb of God going to-to-toe with Cannibal Corpse. Whilst the latter band clearly influences the guttural utterances of Kirill Ulanenkov and the pulverising blast beats of Anton Fedekha, the dark groove the band suddenly switch in to owes as much to the former bands, whilst Kirill’s guitar flourishes also point toward more progressive tinged acts like Gojira. There’s no let up on the brutality, though, and ‘severed to pieces’ showcases a band comfortable enough with their art to explore multiple tempos and structures without letting up on the essential heaviness. The second track, ‘symbol of salvation’, is no less impressive with Kirill once again dragging his battered voice to hell and back as the band lay down an impressively ugly backdrop. It’s heavy as hell, but once again it’s the interesting flourishes the band bring in that attract the attention, the sudden tempo changes that raise the hair on the back of the neck or the snatches of clean guitar (buried deep within the mix) that add just a touch of dynamic to the otherwise devastating picture.
Bestial Deform play brutal, uncompromising death metal. It’s a crowded market, to be sure, but with a long recording history behind them, Bestial Deform deserve more attention than most as their experience has given them the desire and the ability to explore the genre to its limits. What sets the band apart, perhaps, is the fact that the EP is left admirably raw, a stark contrast in the face of the clinical death metal that seems to pour out of America these days, and that raw feel only adds to the band’s potency. Death metal fans should track this limited EP down, it may be short, but it sure as hell packs one hell of a punch!
Совсем недавно обозревал переизданный второй альбом этой петроградской дэт-металлической группы. И вот, пожалуйста, в преддверие, видимо, гораздо более серьезных и судьбоносных событий команда в 2014 году порешила запустить эпишку двухтракового образца. Выпускающий лейбл - Satanath records в сотрудничестве с Grotesque Sounds productions и Heretic records.
Если кто помнит, в том отклике я сравнивал диск с работами Morbid Angel и вполне обоснованно, ибо там техничность и музстрой напоминали американских гигантов большого (секса) дэта. И потому интерес к эпишке был запрограммирован. В конце концов было занятно — не разучились ли ребята играть? Куда там! Шмаляют по полной HELL-программе, причем Морбидами здесь в основном и не пованивает, ну если только длительными драммер-мостами со стонущей экстатической гитарой в апогее.
На вкладыше изображены три человека, а как мы знаем, это число является магическим для металла. Именно таким количеством творцов создаются самые дикие и непреходящие произведения экстремального жанра. Начиная с Дестракшн, Содом и так далее... Вот и наша нечестивая троица включала усилители в розетки умно, жутко и одновременно артистично. Не каждому дано.
На данном компакте явлен добротный образчик дэт-мяса, немного в олдскуловом духе, интригующе, патетически (можно ли такие эпитеты применить к смертельному жанру? можно!) и виртуозно. Виртуозность была оформлена и наполнена духом органичной бестиальности, троглодитского арт-эксцесса, исполненного от здоровой кровеносной системы (от чистого сердца) и проникновения в лоно жанра. Что позволило музыкантам сделать в итоге породистый, стопроцентно аутентичный продукт. Что это именно так, может убедиться каждый — думаю на Сатанат рекордс осталась еще пара компактов.
Гитары здесь так суровы и заземлены на ноль, что даже кажется при ударе молнии гитарному процессу ничего бы не помешало, и это даже не речь о низком строе, а как раз о тотальной приземленности партий, когда кажется, что мелодика их произрастает из самых реликтовых видов почв, где недавно еще ночевали динозавры.
Вокаллер одарен хозяином люцифером в такой мере, что искусство его находит неизменный и самый положительный отклик у фэнбазы. Это проникновенный гроул, который надежен и основателен как экскаватор землекопа, работающего на подряде на золотых приисках.
И вот, в данный момент, когда я пишу эти строки, мне все-таки интересно, выплеснула ли группа все наболевшее, что накипело на душе в народ в виде полноформата. Посмотрел на архивах — нет, пока нет.
В наши тяжко-металлические времена, а они всегда были таковыми (+ -) команде стоит пожелать самообладания и холодного калькуляционного расчета вкупе с горячим творческим драйвом. А также полного взаимопонимания со своими слушателями, что иногда в нашем любимом жанре бывает приоритетом.
Well, time for a brutal death metal assault, one with a rich history. Later on in this review, we'll delve a little deeper into that history but for now, let's focus on the two songs on this e.p. by Bestial Deform from Saint Petersburg. 'Severed To Pieces' is the latest e.p. by a new incarnation of this project, led by Kirill Ulanenkov.
The two songs are great examples of old school doom metal, sick, twisted, morbid and aggressive. Besides that, there's also an industrial element, in the form on nearly constant bass drum hammering and often simple but mostly hypnotic riffs, certainly in 'Symbol Of Salvation'. After mere eight minutes, the whole thing is over but it will leave any death metal fan hungry for more.
And more they will get. More Hate Productions has also re-released the album 'Bellum Contra Omnes' (1996) and the demos 'Together We'll Destroy The World' (1994) and 'Worship To Madness' (1992), aided by Satanath and Symbol Of Domination. Here we dig deeper into the history of Bestial Deform, a band that could have been a high profile death metal band.
The band started in 1990 and focused on aggressive death metal ever since. However, multiple setbacks and line-up changes kept the band from growing to its full potential back then. Nonetheless, Bestial Deform gained quite a solid following in Russia and Ukraine and played shows allover the country. The re-releases breathe that dark, angsty atmosphere of that era and it's awesome to dwell in that environment again.
What we hear on this re-releases is Bestial Deform at their most old school. Of course, that shouldn't really be a surprise because there was no new school yet. The songs on thise albums are crushing, primitive and raw but highly effective pieces of death metal. If you're into anything from ancient Sepultura to Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse, you'd certainly enjoy this assault.

Bestial Deform ist eine Death Metal-Band aus Russland, die schon seit 1990 aktiv ist. Vier Alben haben sie bis heute schon unters Volk gebracht. Und die jahrelange Erfahrung hört man ihnen auch an. Gutes Songwriting und spielerisches Können stehen bei diesen zwei neuen Songs, die das Warten auf das nächste Album etwas verkürzen sollen, an der Tagesordnung. Und die Russen machen ihre Sache richtig gut. Schnell, rhythmisch, anspruchsvoll instrumentiert, aber immer geradlinig und nachvollziehbar, ballern sie in nur acht Minuten alles aus dem Weg und hinterlassen einen bleibenden Eindruck. Mehr muss eigentlich nicht dazu gesagt werden. Fans von Morbid Angel, Deicide, Suffocation, Vader oder Krisiun werden hieran ihre helle Freude haben!

Bestial Deform – культовый питерский дэт-коллектив, который ведёт свою историю с 1990 года и по праву считается сильнейшим в своём роде. Ранние работы команды стали эталоном российского дэт-металла, а сама команда, несмотря на череду перемен в составе, распадов и воссоединений прекрасно себя чувствует и по-прежнему несёт в массы знамя истинного death metal.
На EP “Severed to Pieces” представлены две композиции, которые отражают современное положение дел в лагере Bestial Deform и являются зримым и весомым свидетельством их творческой эволюции. Звук стал более объёмным, увесистым и детальным. Все инструменты идеально прописаны. А вокал Кирилла звучит не только так же зверски и утробно, как раньше, но ещё более насыщенно и глубоко.
В плане музыкальной концепции предводитель коллектива Кирилл Уланенков также остался верен себе: современный Bestial Deform делает ставку на всё тот же злой дэт-метал флорилской школы, который проповедовал со времени своего основания, но если ранние работы команды ориентировались скорее на Morbid Angel времён “Altars Of Madness“, то теперь питерцы следуют скорее духу и букве альбома “Domination” этого славного коллектива из солнечной Флориды. Можно провести параллели между треком Bestial Deform “Symbol Of Salvation” и композицией “Where The Slime Live” с альбома Morbid Angel “Domination”, где присутствовал характерный вокальный эффект. Команда привнесла в своё звучание лёгкий налёт индустриальности, и это очень выгодно и эффектно подчеркнуло их музыкальные идеи, сделав их ещё более рельефными и бронебойными.
Bestial Deform – прекрасный пример и показатель действительно последовательного, профессионального и вдохновенного отношения к своему делу. Их верность изначально выбранному пути заслуживает не только уважения, но и восхищения. А малая длительность предлагаемого EP лишь ещё сильнее разогревает интерес к новому альбому команды, который, как анонсируется, увидит свет в самое ближайшее время. А пока этого не произошло самое время ещё раз переслушать классические работы Bestial Deform – “Together We’ll Destroy The World” (1994) и “Bellum Contra Omnes” (1996), которые были переизданы как раз по этому случаю.

Легендарная питерская группа, стоявшая у истоков российского Death Metal возвращается после летаргии. Можно рассценивать это как некий промо-релиз, громогласно анонсирующий нам возвращение Великого. Можно рассценивать как пробу сил перед предстоящей Бурей. Как угодно... но "Severed to Pieces" настолько короток (около 9-ти минут), что мы обойдемся столь же короткими тезисами в его описании, т.к. по большому счёту и описывать тут нечего.
Впервые, пожалуй, за всю свою историю Бестиалы представляют безупречный по качеству звучания материал. Обе темы зубодробительно быстры и брутальны. Сказать, что коллектив что-то изобретает и дико новаторствует никак нельзя. Я пожалуй, хоть и не слышал всего на свете, но все ходы, риффы и приёмы знакомы мне с 90-х и никак не в исполнении BESTIAL DEFORM. Самый близкий объект для сравнения всем известен - DEICIDE. Плохо ли это? Отнюдь, нет, т.к. американцы очень давно отбывают номер.
Питерцам же желаю продолжать в том же духе, т.е. валить тот же интенсивный, брутальный и зверски-демоничный Метал Смерти. Возможно, стоит добавлять/разбавлять музыку чем-то новым... хотя, всем известо от чего и кого избавляет могила.

This is a review of another recording from Russia's Bestial Deform which continues the blasphemous death metal style of previous recordings with the ep being called "Severed To Pieces" and was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records, Grotesque Sounds Productions and Heretic Records.
A very hard and heavy sound starts off the ep before speeding up and adding in death metal growls and blast beats and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the music also sounds more modern than what was presented on the previous album that I have reviewed.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also add in complex melodies at times and both of the tracks stick to a very heavy musical direction and there are no guitar solos and leads to be heard anywhere on the recording with the band focusing more on heaviness and aggression.
Bestial Deform creates 2 tracks that are purely death metal and keep everything very raw, heavy and aggressive sounding, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover blasphemous and evil themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Bestial Deform and if you are a fan of blasphemous death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Symbol Of Salvation'.

In order to break the silence that lasted for years, since in 2005 the album 'Stop The Christianity' came out, butchers from St. Petersburg Bestial Deform decided to release a single of two songs called 'Severed To Pieces'. That showed their fans that they didn't disappear but still alive and in a good physical and creative state. Sure it's hard to come to the conclusion how good band's state is, because 10 years have already passed since the album that tried to stop Christianity and now we have only two new tracks. But nevermind. The title opus serves quite a good example of domestic death-metal that has many similarities to structural peculiarities of 90ths when the band practically owned the stage of the country. Many technical tricks and twists, a bit of atonality, pretty interesting musical canvas and hack and slash - everything is the way it should be in the old-school manner, taking into account modern possibilities. Musical craft doesn't seem laboured and out of thin air, one thing turns into the other in a smooth and logical way. That's cool, you say. It would be if 'Symbol Of Salvation' wouldn't so much stylistically correspond to its comrade that they could be called twins. No, the tracks are different, of course, at least in length. But the common approach and obvious following the one genre guideline create a kind of cognitive imbalance – two identical tracks demonstratee whether an absolute commitment to one's direction (and it promises us lots of fun inn future) or about a humble thought and loss of a large part of talet. That's the thing I can't figure out, what can we wait from the band further – the album has already been announced.And it can bee really cool or monotonous, but definitely powerful. We'll see. The single gets 6 points, since it doesn't reveal the general situation about the creative potential of Bestial Deform.

Безумие! Тотальное безумие. Сумасшедший дэт, напичканный насквозь хаосом и жестокостью больного маньяка. Прослушивание напоминает процесс бесконечной пытки. Музыканты с каждым новым риффом пытаются изжить из тебя все силы, испить всю твою энергию до дна и освежевать твоё и без того тощее гнилое тело. Словно вводя тебе в вену воздух, но только умираешь ты от этого в десятки раз дольше. Моля о том, чтобы эти муки скорее прекратились. И долго ждать ,в данном случае к сожалению, не приходится. Ибо на епешке всего две композиции. Хотелось бы откровенно говоря ещё столько же. Но видимо большего мы пока не заслуживаем. Очень элегантный коллектив с весьма внушительным звуком. Музыканты не один год играют подобного рода саунд и даже более того не менее 20 лет взращивают своего зверя, который именно сейчас созрел и готов показаться во всей красе. Пронеся сквозь время свою музыку они не утеряли своё пламя, а лишь закалились в бою! При всех своих плюсах группа не пафосна и честна перед собой и своими слушателями. Очень крепкий и брутальный релиз, жаль что из семи кругов ада мы прошли всего два. Но кто знает, что ждёт нас впереди…
