Brazilian band Thy Rites are out with their latest album "Nekrolatreia", and this is a production I would describe as being on the border between speed metal and extreme metal somewhere. The barking, shouted vocals has a distinct extreme metal feel to them, while the music itself feels more like an amped up variety of speed metal with extreme metal flavoring. The sound is hard and sharp, and the album overall has something of a retro as well as a primal vibe and energy to it. Perhaps not a production for all and sundry, but fans of speed metal and extreme metal that appreciate an album that does feature some vibes in the primal and retro department should most likely feel at home with this one.

Hailing from Brazil, Thy Rites presents us their fourth satanic offering, Nekrolatreia, a blacken thrash assault that takes after bands of the past like Sarcófago, Bathory, Hellhammer, and others of similar ilk. Its a solid and ferocious album that'll keep you head banging and moshing around.

The instrumentation is very solid, speedy d-beats, evil riffs, and hellish vocals all with a refined yet stripped back production style that compliments very well with the thrashy style. There are some wailing guitar solos here and there on the album, but its mainly a riff heavy event. They all around nailed the sound they were going for here. Also, the guitar tones are very crisp and pleasant to the ear while at the same time still having that gritty distorted edge you'd expect from a band like this.

But, there are some draw backs. It can be very repetitive. While how evil and ferocious it can be and how well they nailed it, its just sorta the same few notes arranged differently for each song. The drums, while I do have a soft spot for speedy d-beat thrash drums like this, its just very consistent and has very little variation through out the whole album. Some may find this appealing, and personally, I can in the right context, but it just seems a bit draw

n out here.

One of my favorite tracks is kind of different from the others, the tenth track The Feral Communion, and it truly sounds feral. The drums are these chaotic blast beats that only seem to get in order when the guitar is wailing away at its solo, and I think its probably the one song that really stands out from the rest of the black-thrash list.

This band seem to have gotten their aesthetic down to the T. Its very reminiscent of bands from the past, and it does well by keeping that tradition alive. If say this album was transported back to the late eighties, they'd fit right in. But in today's modern age, I feel like they don't do to much that really separates them from the rest. I may be nitpicking, seeing as I still very much enjoyed the album. Sometimes bands don't really need to reinvent the wheel and can get by with the try old classic and Thy Rites really proved it. Its not a hard listen at all in my opinion and a solid recommendation for anyone who loves blacken thrash metal.

Thy  Rites  are  a  solo  project  from  Brazil  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Nekrolatereia"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath,  The  Ritual  and  Vrykoblast  Productions.

A  horror  movie  oriented  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  thrash  metal  influenced  direction.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  an  80's  style  extreme  metal  style  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  black  metal  screams  and  the  songs  also  take  a  retro  style  and  make  it  more  modern.

Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  Some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  the  mid  80's  death  metal  style  along  with  some  touches  of  speed  metal  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  a  cover  of  Sarcofago's  "Christ's  Death".

Thy  Rites  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Desecration  and  Blasphemy  themes.

In  my  opinion  Thy  Rites  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black,  death,  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.

An opus of Speed Thrash Black that will be highly appreciated by fans of IMPALED NAZARENE, and those who like it when this goes straight to the goal aggressively.

Syrový styl, vycházející z punkem načichlého black, thrash metalu, ne nepodobného starým BATHORY, stejně neučesaná produkce, to jsou základní prvky „Nekrolatreia“, pokud dobře počítám čtvrtého alba tohoto přízraku z hlubin undergroundu.
