Today we have a rare Sunday premiere for you, a lyric video for a song named “My Will Is Gone” off the second album from the Costa Rican death/thrashing marauders in Troberoth. That album, Fallen Angel, will be co-released on April 2nd by GrimmDistribution (Ukraine) and Sanatorio Records (Costa Rica).

The song is a hell-raising thrash attack, but it quickly becomes apparent that Troberoth‘s song-writing approach is more varied than usual for this genre, and that their dynamic and multi-faceted song-writing is made possible by the impressive instrumental skill that every band member brings to the table.

Three brothers formed Troberoth in around 2009 — Edgar on vocals and guitar, Jeff on drums, and Chris on lead guitar — and they were later joined by bassist Victor Gonzalez. They took advantage of the quarantine to make this album, drawing inspiration from the world’s miseries and directing critiques against injustice, violence, war, and the oppressiveness of religious institutions.

In the song we’re bringing you today, the lyrics express combined feelings of fear, disgust, anger, and despair provoked by life in a hollowed-out, soulless world consumed by hatred. And this constantly changing song captures those same sensations in sound.

Through feverishly flickering fretwork, vibrantly versatile bass lines, a gun-shot snare attack, rapidly tumbling percussive progressions, and furious roaring and screaming in the vocal department, the music channels incendiary chaos. The pulsating vibrancy of the music, coupled with head-smashing grooves, gets the adrenaline flowing fast and strong, while the start-stop battering that occurs in the chorus inflicts cranial trauma. But the music also writhes in dismal torment and blares in ominous splendor. The crescendo near the end, which features a maniacal (and electrifying) guitar solo, is spectacular, and the bereft boiling guitar madness which follows that sounds like abandonment and anguish.

There’s a lot to be gained by paying attention to what all the band members are doing in the song, which is made possible by the evenness of the production. And it turns out to be as addictive as it is thrilling to hear.

Costa Rica band Troberoth released their latest album "Fallen Angel" a few months back, and this is an album that probably should be filed somewhere under thrash metal. Their variety of the style is a loud and gnarly one, with powerful rough riffs dominating the songs, flavored with crisp as well as flowing solo runs. A few gentler interludes finds their way into a few of the songs, and we get a few slower paced passages too. A more defining trait is that the band will increase pace and intensity on a regular basis, bringing the music over to a more extreme metal orientation when this occurs. Fluctuating and circulating riff patterns i a mainstay in both main forms here. The raspy, dark and gruff vocal style fits all variations quite nicely. An album for those who like their thrash metal slightly primal and with a bit of death metal seasoning.

Episodi davvero ottimi come le varie e serratissime Straight To The Vain, Thrash ‘till We Die e My Will Is Gone, ci fanno chiaramente capire che non c’è bisogno di chissà quale strumentazione tecnologica per creare delle killer thrash metal tracks. The Relentless Hate Of God, dove fanno ingresso i vecchi At The Gates thrash oriented. Degna chiusura dunque affidata a On Earth As It’s In Hell.

‘The Relentless Hate of God‘, tema #8 se abre muy doomy.

Hailing from my own familial home-land, Costa Rica, come Troberoth with their second full length Fallen Angel. An ode to old school thrash and death metal. Showing their attitude and intensity through their music with aggressive riffs, demonic double bass, hellish vocals and a foreboding bass, combined together to create a blasphemous thrash assault.

Like many who came before, they begin with a calming intro and epic acoustic guitar intro, only to jump in head first being greeted with heavy yet groovy riff and later on thrashy d-beats and thrash riffs. These guys were able to really mix in the deep and guttural death metal vocals, almost in style of early Death or Cannibal Corpse, but with that thrash attitude mixed with it. Through out the whole album are plenty of solos, very fun and it keeps it rather interesting, not having the same repetitive riffs over and over can really get tiring. But not with these guys, they're able to find creative ways to keep that death metal tradition alive.

If I were to put this on a thrash to death spectrum, it'd be pushing more towards the death metal side. Since each genre really has its own distinct sound it can be easy to point out. But all through out I kept thinking to my self how much they were inspired by the old death metal heads. And they really did them good honor. And with the technicality to back it up as well. I've already mentioned the plentiful guitar solos, but that's not the only instrument to shine. The bass on these tracks are extremely killer, with an awesome deep tone to keep the music grounded and creative little solos that appear from time to time.

But there is one thing that I could nitpick, its not a major problem for others, but the drums on this album sound kind of stiff. They're played flawlessly, but it almost stands on top of the other instruments especially the bass and rhythm guitar, with the snare just blasting them out of the way. The double bass kicking is also incredible, plenty of speed to keep the heart racing. I'm not saying its bad by any means, just a personal gripe that I wanted to point out. Doesn't really detract from how good and head bang worthy this album is.

One of my favorite tracks off the album is the fourth album, Thrash 'till We Die. A blasphemous love letter to thrash of old. This sounds like it could've been lifted straight from early Slayer, with speedy d-beats and chaotic guitar solos galore. Its just a great song to get the blood pumping and getting you into that thrasher mind set.

This is a strong release from these guys, not something to look over. Its a fantastic ode to thrash and death metal of old. Big recommend if you're a fan of Death, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Metallica, basically 80s thrash and death metal.
