The cover art for Legions of the Dawn (by Remy from Headsplit Design) is sure to seize attention. The sight of all those humanoid horrors shambling through horned tentacles sprouting from hellish ground makes a vivid and ghoulish impression. There’s murder in those eyes and ruthless hunger behind those teeth. But what lies within the album behind that ghastly artwork? You’re about to find out.
Legions of the Dawn is the work of The Malice, a two-headed death-metal monster consisting of Hubeister (Father Death) Liljegren from Sweden and Claudio (CorpseFührer) Enzler from Germany. With a pair of EPs and a single behind them, they first released this album as a demo last September under the title of The Unholy Communion, but it has now been picked up by Satanath Records and More Hate Productions for re-release on March 25th with new mastering, that eye-catching new artwork, and of course the new title.
So, to return to our original question, what lies within this record?
The labels behind this new release strongly recommend it for fans of Morbid Angel, Origin, Hour of Penance, Dissection, Malevolent Creation, and Deeds of Flesh (Dying Fetus also comes to mind). As those references suggest, these nine songs are hybrids, amalgamating furious fret-leaping riffs and maniacally athletic drumwork, brutal bone-smashing grooves, scorching vocal hostility, and hints of spectral, icy, and morbid melody.
The references to Origin and Deeds of Flesh might be the most relevant, because the elements of technical death metal in the music are pronounced, and operate at a high level. The pacing is turbocharged, with the drumming ejecting obliterating percussive munitions but shifting rapidly among various patterns of merciless destruction and the fretwork generating a blazing extravagance of tremolo’d scything, shrieking mayhem, insectile darting, and reptilian slithering — coupled with freakish but fluid soloing that’s often white-hot and just as often supernatural in its feeling.
Augmented by horrid bellowing roars and rabid wolfish howls in the vocal department, the music is also just plain mean. In keeping with the band’s name, there’s a palpable feeling of malice in the music, a throat-slashing, body mauling hostility that floods through these sounds. But as much mean-spirited and mauling mayhem as this duo generate, the execution is so razor-sharp and it’s so frequently segmented by jolting, pile-driving, start-stop grooves that it never devolves into unorganized chaos.
On the other hand, you’d better take plenty of deep, hyperventilating breaths before you hit the play button below, because The Malice aren’t interested in giving you space in which to breathe normally. They go flat-out from start to finish, with no mercy and no remorse.

Há cerca de 3 anos pude conhecer esse ótimo projeto e ainda ter uma boa amizade com um de seus mentores, Hubbe Liljegren.
O The Malice é originário da Suécia e seu som é baseado em grandes nomes do Technical Brutal Death Metal, se mantém bem em cada um de seus registros (lembrando que anteriormente foram divulgadas algumas faixas), além de conter uma boa e signficante referência aos tempos atuais.
"Legions of the Dawn" tem uma ótima dinâmica, é um trabalho denso, técnico e vigoroso, não chega a ser complexo em sua linha de raciocínio mas consegue fazer com que os fãs mais atentos pensem sobre como atingiram tais melodias com perfeição.
Sua produção não desanima em momento algum e salienta a qualidade dos envolvidos que tiveram de certa forma um trabalho bastante árduo.
Confira e tire suas conclusões mas, de preferência, com um ouvido de aço pois aqui tem muito poder para arrasar suas paredes auditivas!

Das Album-Re-Release liegt nun schon gut einen Monat zurück, das eigentliche Release-Datum liegt aber schon wesentlich länger zurück. Unter dem Albumtitel „The Unholy Communion“ erfolgte ein Self-Release als Demo bereits 2019.
Die Neuauflage durch Satanath Records und More Hate Productions ist auf 500 CD‘s limitiert.
Klingt Alles sehr spannend und ich lasse mir jetzt mal von der schwedisch-deutschen Zwei-Mann-Legion die Lauscher verwöhnen. Ich habe da so eine Vorahnung, dass es meinen Geschmack treffen wird.
Mit „The Heirs Ov Sekmet“ geht’s sofort „straight to hell“. Höllisch raue Vocals , aggressives schnelles Drumming und mich packt die Leidenschaft für diese dunkle Welt.
Das Riffing ist auch recht hart, aber so soll es ja sein.
Leider enden alle Songs immer abrupt, gerade dann, wenn sich der Kopf „ein-gebangt“ hat. Aber schon der nächst folgende Song lässt mich fortfahren. Also doch eher Ohren-Nacken-Massage statt Ohren-Verwöhnen.
Die etwas über 32 Minuten sind ein „Highway to Hell“, rau und aggressiv. Etwas Punktabzug gibt’s allerdings wegen der Ähnlichkeit der Songs. Ich persönlich vermisse da etwas mehr Abwechslung, vielleicht doch mal den ein oder anderen kurzen Stil- oder Tempowechsel, aber so ist nun mal das Genre. Unter diesem Aspekt sage ich mal … well done.

Il y avait déjà un petit moment que nous avions évoqué Satanath Records, nous allons donc aujourd’hui mentionner à nouveau ce label russe qui propose une collaboration avec More Hate Productions.
Pour cette fois, The Malice se présente sous forme d’un duo germano-suédois, et le ton utilisé avec cet album se veut brutal death metal technique.
C sont neuf titres que nous avons ici où la puissance s’allie à une certaine lourdeur ainsi qu’une gestion des mélodies parfaites.
Les rythmiques savent varier quand il faut, allant du saccadé au nettement plus lourd, le résultat final est une véritable tarte technique où la vélocité des grattes ne pourra vous laisser sur le cul que ce soit en technique qu’en mélodie.
On ressentira des influences comme Deeds Of Flesh, mais encore aux gaillards de Morbid Angel comme sur un titre comme l’excellent « Aeon Ov Horus » avec sa double pédale massive, ses breaks, sa violente lourdeur où cet ensemble sait varier sur des rythmiques plus saccadées lors de breaks fortement efficaces qui ne seraient pas non plus sans rappeler les vieux albums d’Edge Of Sanity.
Les vocaux sauvages et lourds collent parfaitement à l’ambiance , lui imposant un côté malsain.
Que dire d’un titre comme « Purson » et de sa brutalité sans limite ? Ce morceau est une véritable tuerie où dévalent les blasts, les roulements schizophrènes, distribution de tartes ici et là, brutalité qui ne sera pas sans rappeler non plus quelque part un combo comme Origin .
Quelle énergie mes aïeux ! Quand la brutalité s’allie parfaitement aux mélodies tant lourdes que tranchantes, le tout appuyé par un chant lourd et puissant, le résultat ne peut être qu’appréciable et sans pitié !

THE MALICE to niemiecko szwedzki zespół, który ze sceny pluje technicznym brutal death metalowym jadem, dojrzewającym na rozkładającym się cielsku boga wiodącej religii. W składzie znalazło się dwóch panów. Nur-Adad i Samsu-Iluna od 2014 roku trzymają tę bestię na łańcuchu wykutym w piekielnym ogniu. Od tamtego czasu w muzycznej dyskografii znalazło się pięć wydawnictw w tym jeden album. Wcześniejsze dokonania ukazywały się własnym sumptem muzyków, natomiast album, który ukazał się w 2020 roku i jednocześnie jest przedmiotem tej recenzji został wypluty przez rosyjską wytwórnię - Satanath Records. Jeżeli jesteście fanami takich kapel jak SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION lub MALEVOLENT CREATION, to najnowszy album THE MALICE z całą pewnością przypadnie Wam do gustu.
Legions of the Dawn mówiąc szczerze nie wnosi nic nowego do tego gatunku, ale nie ma się co smucić, ponieważ muzyka zawarta na tym albumie rozpierdala w dobrym stylu utartym już przez wiele innych kapel. Z pewnością nikt nie będzie zawiedziony słuchając ich muzyki. Jest to totalny hołd - ukłon w stronę starych dobrych czasów, gdzie słychać fascynację tą muzyką, ale z całą pewnością nie mogę powiedzieć, że jest to kopiowanie znanych patentów. Cieszy mnie to, że powstaje taka muzyka, na której się nie zawiodę. Tempa są tu szybkie, a muzyka na tyle brutalna, że nie pozostawia jeńców na tym polu bitwy. Wściekłe riffy okraszone licznymi solówkami, skakaniem po skalach i od czasu do czasu wbijające się w czaszkę jak szpilki, wysoko brzmiące flażolety. Do tego blastująca perkusja i demoniczny wokal posługujący się przez cały czas growlingiem. Doskonała recepta na udane popołudnie z ekstremalną muzyką w głośnikach. Na albumie zmieściło się dziewięć utworów, których czas trwania nie przekracza trzydziestu trzech minut. Tak więc krążek słucha się szybko, co zachęca do powtórzeń w odtwarzaniu. Polecam maniakalnym słuchaczom death metalowego pierdolnięcia.

THE MALICE is a German-Swedish band that spits technical brutal death metal venom from the stage, maturing on the decaying carnal god of the leading religion. The line-up consisted of two gentlemen. Nur-Adad and Samsu-Iluna have been holding this beast on a chain carved in hellfire since 2014. Since then, the music discography has included five releases, including one album. Previous achievements have been released by the musicians themselves, while the album, which was released in 2020 and is the subject of this review at the same time, has been spit out by the Russian label - Satanath Records. If you are a fan of such bands as SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION or MALEVOLENT CREATION, then the latest album THE MALICE will surely appeal to you.
To be honest, Legions of the Dawn doesn't bring anything new to this genre, but there's nothing to be sad about, because the music on this album is fucking crushing up the good style already played by many other bands. Surely nobody will be disappointed listening to their music. This is a total tribute - a tribute to the good old days where you can hear the fascination with this music, but I certainly can't say that this is a copy of famous patents. I'm glad to see that this kind of music is being made, which I won't be disappointed with. The pace here is fast and the music is so brutal that it does not leave prisoners on this battlefield. Fierce riffs with numerous solos, jumping on scales and from time to time sticking into the skull like pins, high sounding flageolets. In addition, blasting drums and demonic vocals using growling all the time. A perfect recipe for a successful afternoon with extreme music in the speakers. The album contains nine tracks, the duration of which does not exceed thirty three minutes. Thus, the album is listened to quickly, which encourages repetition in playback. I recommend to maniacal listeners of fucking death metal.

Kiss all that fancy intro goodbye with this release, once pressing the play button the listener is welcome to the malice of nine brutal songs and runtime of over thirty-two minutes, with only members Nur-Adad on guitars, bass and drums and Samsu-Iluna on vocals, with both members having a lot of experience behind the wheel, going back as far as 1995 in previous other projects/bands and from different parts of Europe, having all this experience under their belt, makes "Legions of the Dawn" altogether-short brutal/technical enjoyment of the purest death metal that feels like their tenth album and not their debut (surely the band has two EP's under their belt).

Очень-очень редко группа дарит слушателю более-менее «дружелюбный» размер-передышку – как, например, на третьей минуте “Purson” или в начале “Aeon Ov Horus”: все замедленные моменты выглядят так, словно их тут не должно было быть – словно драммер споткнулся, а гитарист случайно отвлёкся и смазал партию… Единственный не столь быстрый относительно остальных композиций (повторюсь: относительно остальных композиций, потому что, по сути, это всё та же интенсивная резня) номер – это “Possessed”. Запомнить что-либо конкретное из этого арсенала непросто – “Legion of the Dawn” воспринимается как одна получасовая композиция, но, тем не менее, при всей его сложности и хаотичности, устать от него не успеваешь – альбом совсем короткий, девять треков уложились всего в 33 минуты. Строго для истинных поклонников техникал-дэта, не пропускающих ни одной новинки в стиле.

La cooperación de los sellos rusos Satanath Records y More Hate Productions ha hecho posible que el primer larga duración de esta banda germano-sueca llamada THE MALICE haya sido publicado oficialmente por fin, tras un par de EPs como fueron “Malevolent Creature Of Kings” de 2016 y “Lamashtu” de 2018, además de un single titulado “Enlil” de 2016. También hay que decir que se trata de un trabajo que anteriormente vio la luz como demo bajo el título de “The Unholy Communion” y que ahora ha sido editado de forma oficial como “Legions Of The Dawn”, vistiendo un atractivo artwork que lleva la firma de Headsplit Design y que no deja duda del carácter extremo de la propuesta.
THE MALICE son una banda formada por dos tipos, Hubbe y Claudio, que dio sus primeros pasos allá por el año 2015 y que se caracteriza por su Death Metal brutal, rápido y pesado, muy en la onda de bandas como NILE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SUFFOCATION o HIDEOUS DIVINITY. Así pues en este debut en larga duración han sacado todo su arsenal para ofrecer a los adeptos de los sonidos más brutales una devastadora dosis de Metal extremo. Nueve cortes que tiran hacia eso que llaman Technical Death Metal y que cuentan historias del antiguo oriente, siempre desde una perspectiva sombría, dando forma a un álbum asfixiante y demoledor que no es apto para quienes tengan los oídos delicados.
No podemos decir que “Legions Of The Dawn” contenga ninguna sorpresa o elemento diferenciador respecto a lo que ya han hecho otras bandas anteriormente, si bien hay que reconocer que el dúo es capaz de meter tanta tralla como los que más, como puedes comprobar en su vídeo del tema "Witchery". Además la propuesta conceptual de los temas es bastante interesante y encaja muy bien dentro de esa brutalidad sonora. Tal vez la mayor pega que se le pueda poner al disco es que en algunos momentos no alcanza la fluidez técnica suficiente, de hecho para poder encajar como es debido dentro de la etiqueta de Technical Death Metal la banda tendrá que ser más ambiciosa en el futuro. Eso sí, como Brutal Death Metal lo bordan.

Estreia deste projecto/duo onde se junta o sueco Hubertus Liljegren (ex-Crimson Moonlight e ex-Oblivion, entre outros) na parte instrumental e o alemão Claudio A. Enzler (dos The Buried e My Darkest Hate, entre outros) na voz. O que resulta desta união é death metal bruto mas que não dispensa a melodia. Faz-nos pensar nos bons momentos mais recentes da carreira dos Deicide, apenas como ponto de referência. O trabalho instrumental é mesmo de topo e a voz traz ainda mais qualidade acrescida. Poderá ser visto como apenas um projecto, mas seja como for, é um grande álbum de death metal.
The Malice is blasting your fucking head off with their furious mixture of relentless grinding and technical Death Metal.
Oldschool and barking Grind in the veign of Napalm Death is meeting modern blasts from the first Decrepit Birth and Origin along with a good and needed dose of Heavy Metal riffing for making it even more sophisticated on songwriting.
The album's direction is just straight forward while grinding you afterwards like a bus that hit you and didn't see comming. So if you are brave enough to take the risk of getting an unpredicted sledge hammer to your face, you can dive into the world of "Legions of the Dawn"! Don't say I didn't warn you!!!

The Malice are a collaboration formed in 2014 by underground veterans Hubertus "Hubbe" Liljegren and Claudio A. Enzler, here referred to as Nur-Adad and Samsu-Iluna, respectively. Technical Death Metal is the name of the game on their debut Legions of the Dawn, and while I'm not normally too excited with the style, this is a solid example of how you do it properly. The closest comparison I can give is to Hate Eternal circa Conquering the Throne, albeit less blasty. The music is as detailed and complex as you'd expect, but it also has the intensity and brutality needed to really sell it and is even capable of slowing down in spots. Nur-Adad clearly knows his way around an instrument, as he's responsible for the majority of them and handles each one with impressive professionalism, and Samus-Iluna's growls do a great job energizing the songs, sounding somewhere between Karl Sanders and Corpsegrinder as he does so. It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to technical music, especially considering how dry most of it is, but The Malice have done just that. Give them a listen and they may impress you too.

Музыка этого интернационального метал-проекта, куда входят фронтмен немцев My Darkest Hate и Sacrificium Клаудио Энцлер и шведский инструменталист Хубейстер Лильегрен, практически отвечает своему названию - она действительно злобная и даже неистовая. История же альбома довольно интересна. Изначально материал был выпущен в прошлом году как демо "The Unholy Communion", но тут появился поверивший в пацанов лейбл Satanath, и The Malice обзавелись дебютным полноформатным альбомом, с новым мастерингом и оформлением, коим и является сабж. А поскольку музыка соответствует названию проекта, бескомпромиссное рубилово начинается с первой секунды и продолжается все 30 с небольшим минут. На "Legions Of The Dawn" Энцлер и Лиьегрен воплотили в жизнь невероятно взрывоопасный коктейль из техничного и брутального металла, настоянного на работах Anaal Natrakh, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Aborted и, например, Rings Of Saturn. Т.е. скорость, мастерство, неимоверная звуковая молотьба и вполне себе насыщенный всеми композиционными прелестями материал. Я бы сказал, что перенасыщенный, ибо с таким впечатляющим дебютом The Malice немного подгадили сами себе. Во-первых, превзойти сабж будет непросто, и в лучшем случае парни выдадут его логическое продолжение под "номером два", а в худшем просто регрессируют до самоповторов. Конечно, это исключительно фантазия, но есть мысли, что в свой потолок группа уже почти упирается. Во-вторых, здесь столько всего воплощено, столько аранжировок, идей и ходов, что альбом напрочь лишен какой-то интриги, будучи предсказуемо невероятным от начала и до конца. И да, сверхнавороченное музло может наскучить - в какой-то момент я вообще поймал себя на мысли, что отвлекся на что-то, хотя старался внимательно слушать сабж. Видимо, мозг решил, что надо передохнуть от такого мощного потока нотно-ритмической информации. Во всем остальном "Legions Of The Dawn" - суперский релиз, практически идеальный пример современного экстремального металла, который даст прикурить скептикам, одновременно дыша в спину всем конкурентам и коллегам - участники многочисленных коллективов Энцлера наверняка схватились за головы. Но вот со специями в этом музыкальном блюде все-таки переборщили, ибо даже невероятно крутое и интересное музло может приесться, если его слишком много. Хотя, может быть, это я старею.

Německo / švédská bestie THE MALICE je sakra nebezpečné zvířátko. Nic nedělají na půl plynu a hned na úvod bych měl jedno bezpečnostní upozornění – představte si maximum brutality, které dovedete, a čekejte více!!! Považuji se za vcelku zkušeného šílence, který už přec něco za tři dekády aktivního příjmu všech možných a nemožných hudebních extrémů vyposlechl, ale „Legions Of The Dawn“ chce jistou death metalovou praxi. Pokud na max tak na max… THE MALICE jsou maximálně brutální i maximálně techničtí, a to je docela posluchačský para ořech a ten má pořádně betonovou skořápku. Album je venku už nějaký ten měsíc, na sepsání recenze došlo až nyní. Ne tedy, že bych se alba bál, ale jistou dávku respektu ve mně vyvolalo. Dostat „Legions Of The Dawn“ v plném rozsahu do hlavy a vyznat se v něm mi trvalo dlouho, rozhodně déle, než u mě bývá obvyklé. THE MALICE jsou kapela plná změn tempa, rytmických zvratů, technických kotrmelců a stejně tak napěchovaná animální silou a nelidskou brutalitou.
Tenhle matroš první třídy nebezpečnosti jsem, jsa ku všem protivenstvím postavem čelem, nakonec pochopil a začal se v něm orientovat. V ten moment posloucháte jinou kapelu, než zpočátku. Komplikovaná struktura skladeb skrývá rafinované pastičky, které až objevíte, nebudete chtít už „Legions Of The Dawn“ dát z ruky. Není tomu ani tak dávno, kdy jsem nabyl dojmu, že kromě deathcorových lobotomií jsou pro mě technicko-brutálním stropem CATTLE DECAPITATION společně s ABORTED. Nic se nemá brát za definitivní, THE MALICE se s touto mazáckou dvojicí můžou směle měřit. Brutální síla, která z THE MALICE tryská, má nehoráznou intenzitu, měl jsem často pocit, že už je to prostě na hranou. Ale stačí chvíli vydržet a soustředit se na to klubko hadů, které si říká struktura skladeb. Najednou ten ultraběs a nahánění splašené jalovice po půlce okresu začíná dávat smysl a jasný záměr. Zlehýnka se počíná rozbalovat jeden peprný nápad za druhým, na povrch se dostávají zajímavé kytarové vychytávky, neméně zajímavé změny v barvě zvuku kytar i několikrát za tu kterou skladbu. Bicí sekce je ukrutně razantní, technická a na pikosekundu přesná. Komplex zvaný „Legions Of The Dawn“ doplňují melodické linky (ano čtete správně), sic jsou řádně profackovány a semlety okolním toxickým prostředím, ale jsou tam a určitě ne do počtu.
THE MALICE, ač nijak věkovitá kapela, mají síly tolik, že by ji mohli balit do krabic a vyvážet do zahraničí a ještě by jim zbylo tolik, aby srovnali půlku známého světa se zemí. Těžko na „Legions of The Dawn“ hledat blechy, jedná se kompaktní celek a koncentrovanou explozivní směs death metalové brutality zatavené do technické náročnosti a skvělých instrumentálních výkonů. Špičkové zvukové zpracování a stylová grafika jsou pak jen zdánlivě samozřejmé detaily, korunující absolutorium celého materiálu. „Legions Of The Dawn“ pasuji bez přehánění za jedno z nejlepších death metalových alb tohoto roku, až je letos konkurence velmi silná a death metal v žádném případě nestrádá. A pokud se proberu jeho technickou brutální formou, počet takto silných alb už dvojnásob není nějak ohromující.
Laťka je nastavena, a je povážlivě vysoko.

This is a Swedish/German collaboration. I know of the band Malice because it is a US metal band. I know nothing about THE MALICE. So it is with some hesitation that I start playing this album. The album cover looks cool so I hope that the music too will be cool. What I am met with is death metal of the more technical kind. You know the one where it feels like the guitarist is polishing the neck, trying to get as many positioning in one minute as possible. It might be the punk in me but I like it when there isn’t too much fiddling with the chords. At least it is brutal stuff. I have no problems listening to this, and even enjoying it. A nice record over all that I am glad came my way.
Ah, sometimes it is truly fine to get confused in a positive way. That’s exactly what happened to me when Aleksey from Satanath Records (amongst others) informed me about the debut of the project The Malice. I have to admit that I did not know this entity, but apparently it’s a pan-European collaboration of two famous and experienced sweeties. The vocal part is done by Germany’s Claudio ‘Samsu-Iluna’ Enzler, whom you might know from orchestras like My Darkest Hate, Sacrificium or The Bleeding Skies (and many more). The instrumental side is courtesy of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Hubeister ‘Nur-Adad’ Liljegren, (previously) known from e.g. Crimson Moonlight, DivineFire and Sanctifica.
Deep-going investigation by undersigned revealed a modest yet actually quite interesting discography in the (recent) past. A few (digital) EP’s eventually resulted in a loyal fanbase, which makes it quite logic that a first ‘real’ album might be appreciated enormously. Actually, this debut, Legions Of The Dawn, is not a totally new thing. Legions Of The Dawn is the remastered edition of 2019’s independently released demo The Unholy Communion, which was a digital-only release. Now you can enjoy this material on compact disc (a ‘regular’ jewel-case, which includes an eight-page booklet).
This material was originally recorded at the Temple Ov Set Studio, with Hubeister taking care of the production duties. The result was mixed at the professional Dream Decipher Studio with Jani Stefanović (no coincidence, for Jani and Hubeister were colleagues in Crimson Moonlight and sort of collaborated in DivineFire too) (vocals were arranged by Wolfgang Nillies, FYI), with mastering duties by Ulf ‘Uffe’ Blomberg (Hoborec Studios). The package is now available (actually, it was released one year ago, but it is never too late to focus on great material that deserves all additional attention, promotion and support) in another partnership of two mighty labels, Satanath Records and More Hate Productions. It’s not their first cooperation and it won’t be their last either.
Before focusing on the sonic side, a word about the visuals. The new layout was done by Aleksey Korolyov, and the stunning cover artwork comes from the hand – and the (sick) mind – of Headsplit Design’s Remy Cuveillier (who created hundreds of cover pictures before for releases by e.g. Thy Art Is Murder, Mastic Scum, Disowning, Suffering Souls or Mumakil). And believe me that the pretty faces on the cover drawing do fit to the aural terror – nine frenzy sonic assaults gathered now under the new moniker Legions Of The Dawn.
As you can expect, this album blasts as from the very first moment, and for thirty-three minutes, The Malice show no mercy, no remorse, no breathing space either. It starts with The Heirs Ov Sekhmet, bringing a coherent assemblage of sharp-edged riffs, ultra-fast drum salvos, technically high-skilled solos, shredded low-tuned bass lines and incredibly monstrous grunts. That’s somehow the ‘core’ for each elegy on this album.
The better part is, evidently, fast. And with fast, I refer to everything in between energetic and up-tempo, over beastly blasting, to pyroclastic – like the Big Bang, a fast-as-lightning expulsion without limitations or borders. But it is fine to notice that a few moments take back the high-speed tempo, slowing down, albeit at least for some shorter moments. But that’s a necessity, because of the overwhelming brutality going on. Besides, those few decelerations appear in a most organic manner, and never they do loose the power and energy of the rapid (or is it rabid) parts.
Despite the huge brutal approach, The Malice succeed to maintain a distinct technical elegance. This goes for the main riffs especially, as well as the overall song structures and the Fingerspitzen guitar solos. It reminds me a lot of the North-American scene rather than the European. Yet, I have to admit that the scenes from Sweden, Finland and Italy are no stranger either. Okay, this also means that this album is not an original work actually. Legions Of The Dawn has not been created to renew the scene. But that’s okay, because the result floats within the highest regions of the scene for sure. The ingenious song-writing, the well-executed performance and the intense sound quality, yet also the variation in structure and speed, logically lead to appreciation, almost adoration and idolatry (a modest exaggeration, do you mind?).
Anyway, this is recommendable stuff if you cum on Deeds Of Flesh, Origin, Malevolent Creation, Nile, Aborted, Decrepit Birth, Hour Of Penance, Dying Fetus, Emrevoid, Suffocation and the likes…

This Swedish-German co-alliance reminded me musically very much Spawn of Possession, as they likewise try to mix the US brutal death metal style along with the enchanting melodies of the Swedes. The duo, i.e. Claudio Enzler (vocals) and Hubeister Liljegren (guitars/arrangements), knows precisely how to make their stuff sound in a top-notch way with a crushing manner. The riffs of Hubbe are coming out of my loudspeakers in a crystal clear form, which fact I appreciate quite a lot. Their material is also fairly technical and modern with lots of killer twists and awesome growls. I believe last time I've heard this kind of formula was on Decrepit Birth's "Axis Mundi". Let me assure you, "Legions of the Dawn" is a huge debut record that fans of Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Nile, Suffocation, Origin, Cannibal Corpse, Terrorizer, Dissection, Soulreaper, Naglfar will surely going to like and admire from the first note. The nearly 33 minutes long CD is divided to nine chapters and is constantly about the relentless energies combined by graceful guitar melodies. The Malice is a 100% sophisticated death metal squad, which was recently extended with session musicians to perform this brutal beast of a masterpiece on live shows as well. My fingers crossed, so hope to catch them live in the near future!!!

Музыка этого интернационального метал-проекта, куда входят фронтмен немцев My Darkest Hate и Sacrificium Клаудио Энцлер и шведский инструменталист Хубейстер Лильегрен, практически отвечает своему названию - она действительно злобная и даже неистовая. История же альбома довольно интересна. Изначально материал был выпущен в прошлом году как демо "The Unholy Communion", но тут появился поверивший в пацанов лейбл Satanath, и The Malice обзавелись дебютным полноформатным альбомом, с новым мастерингом и оформлением, коим и является сабж. А поскольку музыка соответствует названию проекта, бескомпромиссное рубилово начинается с первой секунды и продолжается все 30 с небольшим минут. На "Legions Of The Dawn" Энцлер и Лиьегрен воплотили в жизнь невероятно взрывоопасный коктейль из техничного и брутального металла, настоянного на работах Anaal Natrakh, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Aborted и, например, Rings Of Saturn. Т.е. скорость, мастерство, неимоверная звуковая молотьба и вполне себе насыщенный всеми композиционными прелестями материал. Я бы сказал, что перенасыщенный, ибо с таким впечатляющим дебютом The Malice немного подгадили сами себе. Во-первых, превзойти сабж будет непросто, и в лучшем случае парни выдадут его логическое продолжение под "номером два", а в худшем просто регрессируют до самоповторов. Конечно, это исключительно фантазия, но есть мысли, что в свой потолок группа уже почти упирается. Во-вторых, здесь столько всего воплощено, столько аранжировок, идей и ходов, что альбом напрочь лишен какой-то интриги, будучи предсказуемо невероятным от начала и до конца. И да, сверхнавороченное музло может наскучить - в какой-то момент я вообще поймал себя на мысли, что отвлекся на что-то, хотя старался внимательно слушать сабж. Видимо, мозг решил, что надо передохнуть от такого мощного потока нотно-ритмической информации. Во всем остальном "Legions Of The Dawn" - суперский релиз, практически идеальный пример современного экстремального металла, который даст прикурить скептикам, одновременно дыша в спину всем конкурентам и коллегам - участники многочисленных коллективов Энцлера наверняка схватились за головы. Но вот со специями в этом музыкальном блюде все-таки переборщили, ибо даже невероятно крутое и интересное музло может приесться, если его слишком много. Хотя, может быть, это я старею.
