Two years have passed since Cuban black metal band Skjult released their first full length ‘Within the Flesh’, and now the one-man project has returned with a follow-up titled ‘Progenies ov Light’. On this newest release band creator Conspirator has once again stuck with abrasive, icy riffing that focuses on fast paced blasting and slower, brooding passages in equal capacity but there’s a higher level of polish to the production and writing. With ‘Progenies ov Light’ due out on February 21st from Satanath Records and Black Metal Propaganda Deutschland, today we’re excited to premiere the song Dawn ov an Era of Light.
There’s still a rawer edge to the instrumentation throughout the material, but compared to Skjult’s debut the production values come off feeling more polished and there is clear separation between the guitar, bass, and drums that work together to deliver a bleak sound. While other songs on ‘Progenies ov Light’ emphasize blast beats and speed, Dawn ov an Era of Light is one of the slower numbers and it uses that to its advantage with riffing that portrays a sense of destruction and desolation. Seeing as this is one of the final tracks on the album, switching gears over to this tempo makes sense and showcases Skjult’s ability to let its leads sink its hooks into your flesh no matter what speed they’re going at. The overall tonality and song structure is sure to be reminiscent of different European black metal bands, but I was personally reminded of the type of closing tracks Endstille utilized on ‘Endstilles Reich’ and ‘Verführer’. There’s a definite similarity to the “calm after the storm” approach this track displays, and it’s pulled off with the same amount of jagged edges that prove to be quite enticing. Conspirator’s vocals skew towards the raspier side, and the amount of distortion and grit to his screams grab you by the throat and feel as though they’re capable of completely wringing the life out of you.
Skjult’s second full length has taken the elements from the band’s debut and refined them further, delivering a destructive release that pulls from a number of clear influences but never sounds too close to one particular group. Between this album and last year’s Narbeleth release, it seems like we should keep an eye on Cuba as the country has produced some hellish black metal on par with other parts of the world. ‘Progenies ov Light’ is out February 21st on Satanath Records and Black Metal Propaganda Deutschland.

Cuba is home to the black metal band Skjult, through which its lone member Conspirator channels his dark and devilish creative impulses. 2016 brought forth Skjult’s first album, Within the Flesh, and on February 21st of this year Satanth Records and Black Metal Propaganda Deutschland will jointly release the second one, a 41-minute assault entitled Progenies Ov Light.
The new album, which consists of seven songs and a bonus track that appears as a tribute to Trond Alastor Nefas (Urgehal/Beastcraft), reflects changes in Skjult’s musical direction as compared to the first album. Two songs have appeared so far in the run-up to the album’s release, and today we bring you a third one: “Into the Void“.
The song title’s reference to the void is entirely fitting. The music strikes with immense, thunderous force, but it’s also frighteningly otherworldly — blood-freezing and ominous, as if capturing the sensation of a giant, rising dragon, whose vast wings blot out the moon.
The song is propelled by furious, relentlessly hammering drums, cyclonic gales of grim riffing, and murderous, serrated-edge howls. Through this storm of sound, filaments of chilling, alien melody swirl or ring out like haunting chimes. And while the music’s aggressiveness and Luciferian menace may rock you back on your heels, there is something majestic about it as well.

Rarely if ever am I surprised, I mean really surprised. So when I was listening to this release and then learned about the artist I ended up being very surprised. First off musically this is some incredibly aggressive sounding black metal in the vein of URGEHAL or even (dare I say) Gaahl era GORGOROTH. Secondly SKJULT is a one man black metal act. And third he's from Cuba, a nation whose government is not known for allowing it's citizens to do as thou wilt.
With that said I have to say the this one man, Conspirator, is a genius. This release sounds like it was recorded by a full band. Add to that the recording quality is incredible. This is the second full length done by him under the band name SKJULT. The first for Satanath Records as well. The debut was a self released CD which came out in 2015. While listening to this new one I get the feeling that it snows in Cuba with the absolute coldness it projects upon the listener, aka: Me.
Musically the songs, eight of em, are a mixed bag of aggressive rhythms in a constant Norwegian late 90s/early 2000s black metal style. Most of the cuts combine actual riffs as opposed to full on tremolo picked madness. The drumming is real as well. Songs vary from hate filled blasts of blackened fury to a more somber attitude that connects atmosphere which allows the album to breath some in it's over forty minute time span. If there was something major to gripe about I'd say Conspirator's vocals, which are a low rasp quality, get a bit monotonous after a while.
All in all Progenies Ov Light is a well done release that hearkens back twenty years. It revels in rawness at times and on others it's grandiose to the point you wish there were some synths (are their synths?) to make it symphonic. Either way BM fans should seek it out.

I vichinghi, come ben si sa, erano grandi nonché audaci navigatori e furono con ogni probabilità i primi a giungere sul continente americano, anche se nelle sue propaggini più settentrionali, ben prima di Colombo.
Crto che, ascoltando questo secondo album della one man band cubana Skjult, viene da pensare che possano essersi spinti sino ai Caraibi, visto che il sound offerto in Progenies ov Light sembra più scandinavo di molti degli stessi gruppi norvegesi e svedesi. Con tale premessa, ovviamente, non ci sono da attendersi soverchie variazioni sul tema ma questo non impedisce al buon Conspirator di pubblicare un lavoro valido pur nella sua rigida ortodossia stilistica.
Fino ad oggi il nome più conosciuto del black metal cubano nel quale ci si era imbattuti era quello di Narbeleth, altro progetto solista dalle propensioni leggermente più atmosferiche, ma indubbiamente la scoperta di questi Skjelt testimonia di una scena che dalle parti dell’Avana è tutt’altro che anomala o pittoresca.
Per trovare la chiave di lettura dell’album è opportuno l’ascolto di un brano emblematico come Summoning the Eternal Black Flames of Death, dove echi degli Emperor di In The Nightside Eclipse sono più che una suggestione.
Progenies ov Light è un lavoro che magari a molti potrà apparire anacronistico, e forse lo sarebbe davvero se provenisse da una nazione nordeuropea: al contrario, l’approccio alla materia in qualche modo “puro” di Conspirator rende l’ascolto un’esperienza gradevolissima per intensità e convinzione.
I brani sono oscuri e incalzanti come da copione, la produzione è tutto quanto serve ad apprezzare al meglio di genere, e pazienza se l’originalità è meno che ai minimi termini: questo disco è un bel tuffo in acque caraibiche che, al suono degli Skjult, si tramutano in quelle gelide dei fiordi norvegesi.

Skjult are a solo project from Cuba that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Progenies Ov Light" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records and Black Metal Propaganda Deutschland.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams as well as the music being very heavily rooted in the 90's and all of t he musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while spoken words are also used briefly along with a later song being long and epic in length as well as all of the riffing being done on power chords and on the closing track a small amount of guitar leads and melody can be heard.
Skjult plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional in the 90's era of the genre, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death, Satanism, and visions themes.
In my opinion Skjult are a very great sounding raw black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording.

VERDIKT: Progenies of Light je mrazivá sbírka blasfemického black metalu, ve kterém je prostor pro ničivé tempo i silnou atmosféru. Skjult je mladým tělesem na vzestupu. Zatím se nechá okatě inspirovat, ale výsledek je nakažlivý.
I když na Echoes zine v podstatě black metalu nerozumíme, máme ho rádi. Ne jen jeho progresivní formu, ale také tu základní (raw, old school, TRVE) krutou a temnou. Proč se rozepisuju o banalitách a nejdu přímo k jádru věci? Asi aby řeč nestála a také, aby bylo jasné, že právě recenzovaná deska Progenies ov Light je ryze blackmetalová, krutá, masakrální… Jedná se o druhé dílo one man projektu Skjult původem až z horké Kuby a je uhrančivě skvělé!
Ke Skjult jsem se dostal až díky promo balíčku od ruského labelu Satanath Records stejně jako s dalšími podzemními lahůdkami, které v poslední době recenzuji. Vše za Skjult stojí a padá s Conspiratorem, který obsluhuje veškeré nástroje a vlastní stylový krkavčák. Člověk je to zřejmě nenechavý, angažující se v dalších projektech, s nimiž ale podle mého názoru nedokázal stvořit podobně blasfemickou hudbu a v takové kvalitě jako se Skjult.
Progenies of Light je sedmipoložková bestiální nadílka, která se s ničím nepáře. Docela mě překvapil ohromující posun mezi debutem Within the Flesh a současností. Tam kde byl debut špinavě garážový (tady zřejmě obývákový), je novinka, vycházející pouhé dva roky poté, vyspělejší po všech stránkách. Profesionálnější je stavba skladeb, jejich aranže jsou pestřejší, podstata brutálnější, zvuk nesrovnatelně velkolepější. Je možné, že někteří z ortodoxních fans nebudou spokojení s větší čitelností, ale divoká bestialita novinky může uchlácholit i toho nejzarytějšího fanatika.
Album otevírá neskutečný mazec v podobě Into the Void. Právě do prázdnoty se vydáte s prvním prásknutím bičem. Skladba se nezastaví ani na chvíli. Conspiratorův scream leptá patro stylem hladové příšery. Ačkoliv je píseň poháněna nekončícími blasty a tremoly, svojí pestrostí (v rámci old schoolu) vtáhne posluchače do děje a neustále ho vyrušuje. Není možné se nudit ani na moment. V podstatě by se to stejné dalo říct o dalších kompozicích. Tempo je vyhlazující, bicí se však nebojí přechodů a občasného zvolnění. Líbí se mi atmosférická melodie uprostřed vichřice Summoning the Eternal Black Flames of Death. Odlehčením může být začátek Glorious Night. Song není tak divoký a více se rochní v mrazivé melodičnosti. Následující Dawn of an Era ov Light, která album v podstatě uzavírá, je valivá tryzna, kde se Conspirator v příjemně melodicky rozeřve. V bonusové Baptized by the Unholy Goat se vracíme k masakru, deathové řezničině a desku tak stylově zakončíme rozbouřeným peklem.
Skjult připomínají zvláštní mix starých Immortal, Gorgoroth nebo Urgehal s agresivní těžkotonážností Sacramentum nebo Dissection. Jména plácám, jak mi padnou do huby. Chtěl jsem jen poukázat na fakt, že ač s Kuby, cítím z Progenies ov Light skandinávskou scénu z devadesátých let. Ostatně Skjult nejsou zdaleka prvními, kdo se nechal inspirovat touhle nevysychající studnicí geniálních nápadů. Důležité je, jestli se dokážou vyrovnat s malou originalitou a napsat dobrý materiál. Myslím si, že Skjult se tohle daří. Nechci se pitvat v podrobnostech a hledat, co bych zkritizoval. Progenies of Light mě neskutečně baví, byť neslyším nic nového. Už s ohledem na obrovský kus cesty mezi dvěma deskami věřím, že třetí bude ještě lepší a zbavená nálepky slibné smečky holdující skandinávskému masakru.

Oι Skjult είναι ένα black metal σχήμα από την πρωτεύουσα της Κούβας. Τον Φεβρουάριο που μας πέρασε, κυκλοφόρησαν τον νέο τους δίσκο που τιτλοφορείται 'Progenies Ov Light' ένα συντριπτικό black metal διαμάντι που έφτασε από την Αβάνα για να μας τραβήξει στην επιθετική πλευρά της μουσικής. Ο δίσκος περιέχει 7 κομμάτια και ένα bonus track και συνιστάται σε όλους τους οπαδούς τoυ 'μαύρα χρωματισμένου ήχου'. Extreme και death ρυθμοί, βραχνά λασπωμένα φωνητικά και όλα αυτά κάτω από τον black metal μανδύα των Skjult. Αυτό που βρήκα αρκετά ευχάριστο στο 'Progenies Ov Light' είναι η ξεκούραστη ροή ταχυτήτων στον ήχο. Δεν στέκονται σε ένα μόνο είδος, αλλά καθώς φαίνεται βρήκαν τον τρόπο να μαγειρέψουν ένα ιδανικό μουσικό μείγμα και παράλληλα να διατηρήσουν την underground ταυτότητα τους. Επίσης, δεν θα βρεις μέτρια κομμάτια. Όλα κυμαίνονται από αρκετά καλά έως πάρα πολύ καλά!
Η απόδοση όλων των οργάνων είναι εξαιρετική ενώ οι έντονοι φωνητικοί βρυχηθμοί του τραγουδιστή, που πραγματικά είναι λες και ξεπετιούνται από κάποιο στοιχειωμένο πηγάδι, ταιριάζουν απόλυτα στο line up της μπάντας. Βασικά είναι ακριβώς όπως θέλω εγώ το black metal μου. Χωρίς ζάχαρη μεν αλλά με λίγο μέλι. Και στη παρούσα φάση, το μέλι είναι οι έντονες επιρροές από death ήχο, οι ενδιάμεσες μελωδικές γαρνιτούρες και οι καλοδουλεμένες sludge στιγμές που δένουν άριστα στην κατά τα άλλα τραχιά διαμόρφωση του 'Progenies Ov Light'.
Τα ωμά riffs είναι στη σωστή ποσότητα που χρειάζεται ενώ οι πιο αργές death και μελωδικού death στιγμές του είναι πέρα για πέρα απολαυστικές. Προσωπικά δε συνάντησα κάποιο λάθος κατά την ακρόαση. Το τεχνικό κομμάτι είναι άψογο, η ποικιλομορφία ήχων στα κομμάτια δε ξεφεύγει και διατηρεί την αισθητική του συγκροτήματος ενώ συνάμα σε ξεναγεί και σε εναλλακτικούς δρόμους. Ο,τι πρέπει δηλαδή!
Skjult is a black metal figure from the capital of Cuba. In February, we released their new album titled 'Progenies Ov Light', an overwhelming black metal diamond that came from Havana to pull us on the aggressive side of the music. The album contains 7 tracks and a bonus track and is recommended to all fans of 'black-colored sound'. Extreme and death rhythms, muddy, muddy vocals and all under the Skull's black metal cloak. What I found quite pleasing in 'Progenies Ov Light' is the relaxed flow of sounds. Well, they fit perfectly into the lineup of the band. Basically it's just like I want my black metal. Without sugar but with some honey. The raw riffs are in the right amount they need, while the slowest death and melodic death moments are far more enjoyable. Personally, I did not get an error at the hearing. The technical part is impeccable, the diversity of sounds in the tracks does not escape and maintains its aesthetics as well as guided tours and alternative roads. What, that is!

Aussi surprenant que cela puisse paraître, lʼîle de Cuba nʼa pas à offrir que du sable fin, une culture latine riche et des paysages de rêve... Elle abrite en effet quelques rares spécimens de black metal comme par exemple le one man band Skjult.
Cʼest via Satanath Records (basé en Russie) que Skjult aka Conspirator a livré en seulement 500 exemplaires physiques son dernier méfait en date « Progenies Ov Light ». Un instrumental puissant, imposant et mécanique, voilà ce que promet ce disque à lʼécriture sans faille. Le havanais nʼy va pas par quatre chemins et déverse haine virulente et noirceur inconditionnelle à la manière de ses aînés nordiques ( Darkthrône, Tsjuder ou encore Artcturus). Le disque regorge de titres tous plus convaincants les uns que les autres, Immortal Rites et ses incantations malfaisantes, le venimeux Hail Blasphemous Hated ( The Lord Is Upon Us ) ou encore le plus lent mais non moins profane A Crown Of Horns....
Pendant un peu plus de 40 minutes les Caraïbes se retrouvent plongées dans une obscurité glaçante à en faire jalouser nos amis norvégiens ! Skjult fait preuve dʼun réel culot au travers de Progenies Ov Light, mais surtout dʼune maîtrise sans faille. Véritable descente aux enfers, embarquez au son des riffs de guitares sophistiqués et suivez la batterie infernale qui vous guidera de péripéties en péripéties, de registre en registre... Quel que soit votre horizon musical, il y a forcément un détail qui retiendra votre attention.

Nada menos que desde la mismísima Cuba, desde La Habana, tenemos un interesante proyecto de black metal denominado Skjult que nos trae un trabajo que destila oscuridad, frío y ese deje a Inner Circle que parece mentira que pueda salir desde una isla del caribe.
Pero obviando este aspecto, meramente anecdótico, de su procedencia, Skjult es un grupo que se puede percibir desde dos ángulos opuestos, y desde los que vamos a enfatizar esta crítica, donde vamos a entrar en el mundo de “Progenies Of Light”
Lo primero es que no tengo el disco físico, la copia que nos han hecho llegar es una copia digital, por lo que no puedo hablar del todo apropiadamente del trabajo en si, aunque la copia digital, y el libreto que nos han mandado esta bastante bien. Tampoco puedo adelantar mucho del grupo, no tienen biografía, un dato recurrente a los grupos de black metal y su búsqueda del perfila mas underground, pero que indudablemente, y en este mundo globalizado mas aún, hace que el grupo pierda capacidad para llegar a mas gente dada la ausencia de toda referencia… no se si llenan mucho o poco, o cuantos discos tienen.
Sin embargo no tengo duda de que este grupo es un grupo rodado, muy imbuido por la vieja escuela, mostrando un pulso compositivo que muestra horas de escucha de los clásicos, y de horas delante de un instrumento para conseguir ese sonido de la vieja escuela, que no es fácil conseguir. El disco transmite esa sensación de podredumbre, ese aura fría y congelante que grupos como Mayhem, o Immortal hicieron perennes en el diccionario oscuro del Black metal. Si es cierto que no es nada nuevo, pero que coño! esta muy bien realizado, y suena realmente intenso y lleno de mala hostia.
Me gusta esa poderosa influencia, y esa forma firme en plasmar compositivamente unos temas que saben netamente a la vieja escuela, llenos de versatilidad oscura tan conseguida que bien parece un grupo escandinavo. No obstante, y a pesar de que la atmósfera malsana y llena de aura oscura que consigue el grupo en el disco, si reconozco que el grupo apenas evoluciona un estilo, un sonido del que ya se ha transitado de largo. Pero a renglón seguido recalco que es meritorio hacer un trabajo que pueda mirar a la cara a los grandes clásicos sin desmerecer, y este trabajo no desentonara en tu listado de grandes de la oscuridad.
Me quedo, destacando algún tema, con la furiosa “Baptized By The Unholy” que curiosamente es el bonus track del disco, pero creo que es el corte que mejor presenta el equilibrio entre la mas brutal cadencia oscura, y el tempo mas acelerado y netamente descarnado. Sin embargo cualquier corte del disco te deja ese sabor a los viejos tiempos del Inner Circle, como es la canción “Into The Void” el primer tema que nos presenta al grupo y que esta muy logrado en su armonía oscura y el tempo abrasivo que implementan al corte. También podría destacar la furia de “Immolation Rites” realmente abrasivo y brutal, lleno de velocidad en la base rítmica, realmente notable, firmando un tema old school muy cercano a grupos como Immortal y que suena muy bien. Sin embargo en “Summoning The Eternal Black Flames of Death” entramos en un corte equilibrado en sus partes mas flamígeras y descarnadas, pero que me deja demasiado deja vu, a pesar de que esta bien realizado sin duda. En “Glorious Night” el siguiente corte, la sensación se atempera gracias a un aura atmosférica mas incisa, que no le queda nada mal al corte y que a mi me gusta sin ambages. En el siguiente corte “Hail Blasphemous Hated (The Lord Is Upon Us)” me gusta especialmente por ese deje de la vieja escuela, ese aura mefistofélica grandilocuente y llena de maldad y recovecos malsanos.
Por contra “A Crown Of Horns” es para mi la mas predecible del disco. Muy bien enfocada y mejor plasmada, sin embargo no me dice realmente nada que no haya oido ya. Tampoco encontramos en “Down Of An Era Ov Light” realmente algo no transitado, pero como incansable seguidor de este sonido, me encanta la atmósfera cargada y asfixiante, fría y heladora que el grupo sabe implementar en el tema.
Un disco que tendrás en tus imprescindibles del black metal oscuro cuando quieras recordar como era esa atmósfera del Inner Circle a dia de hoy.

Pelo teor do black metal tipicamente escandinavo aqui evidenciado, não deixa de ser curioso que os Skjult sejam oriundos de Cuba. De todos os sítios, Cuba. Por esta altura já não deveria representar surpresa já que temos tido provas todos os meses de que a boa música chega-nos de todo o lado, até mesmo da terra de Fidel Castro. Nao fosse a origem e este trabalho poderia até assumir-se como banal, pela forma como segue à risca as convenções do black metal da segunda vaga. No entanto, e mesmo assim, com origem exótica ou não, este é um trabalho ao qual nos vemos a voltar facilmente, seja agora seja daqui a uns meses, ou até anos. Mesmo tendo uma considerável falta de dinâmica, não deixa de ser uma excelente surpresa.
Метал бенд са Кубе, барем када сам ја у питању, већ неко време није изненађење. Са друге стране, изненађујуће је колико сам се већ навикао да бендови из те земље буду јако добри. Мало их има, али држе врло висок креативни ниво.
Skjult је прилично млад пројекат који се представља својим већ другим албумом током свог трогодишњег постојања. На моменте се и овде поставља питање односа квалитета и квантитета, међутим генерални утисак остаје позитиван. У питању је креативно чедо једног човека што покреће низ нових питања, али само преслушавање овог материјала отклања све дилеме.
Укратко говорећи, Skjult је блек метал бенд готово потпуно укорењен у другом таласу скандинавског огранка жанра. Пре свега, намећу се компарације са Immortal и Dark Funeral, најприметније у самом сировом приступу „задатку”, те умешном коришћењу гитарских деоница које креирају карактеристичну, хладну атмосферу каквом се мора одликовати албум овог жанра. Последња нумера на диску доноси Marduk конотацију, нарочито у сурово агресивном приступу композицији.
Агресије не недостаје ни у остатку албума што је, опет, сасвим очекивано од једног оваквог албума. Разноврсност ритмова који прате ово издање са лакоћом држе пажњу слушаоцу. У распону од класичних блек метал брзалица у нумери која отвара издање до спорих, атмосферичних песама каква је Glorious Night налази се мноштво разноликости у којима доминира изврстан бубњарски рад (живо одсвиран или компјутерски програмиран, јако је тешко утврдити). Управо та динамичност би могла бити елемент који ће овај бенд и ово издање прогурати даље од многих који су нешто слично покушали. Conspirator, како себе воли назвати идејни творац овог пројекта, показује велику дозу сигурности и када су вокални задаци у питању.
Немам прилику упознати се са текстуалном страном бенда, но према свему приказаном у насловима песама, ради се о очекиваној тематици за овакву музику, те стиховима посвећеним култу смрти, мржњи према организованој религији и томе сличним темама на какве су фанови већ одавно навикли.
Progenies Ov Light је и продукцијски решен на изврстан начин. У том погледу ме подсећа на последње радове већ поменутих Dark Funeral. Пре свега када је у питању чврстина звука. Чињеница је да су појединачно инструменти веома јасно наглашени, те их је лако разазнати. Са друге стране, целокупан звучни утисак је прекривен танким велом прљавштине што албуму доноси нову димензију агресивности која веома често недостаје издањима ове врсте.
Усудио бих се чак рећи да Skjult оваквим снимком може са лакоћом да стане раме уз раме са највећим именима жанра. Наравно, ни најмање им неће помоћи чињеница да долазе са Кубе, но и поред тога, андерграунд је одавно показао и доказао да не признаје границе, тако да је свашта могуће. Мишљења сам да је бенд већ овим албумом достигао креативну зрелост коју у предстојећим годинама треба само додатно учврстити и потврдити. Свакако се овде ради о једном од најбољих младих блек метал бендова који сваки озбиљан љубитељ жанра мора испратити.

A veces una banda llama más la atención por su procedencia que por la música en sí misma. Es lo que me pasó al saber de la existencia de SKJULT, o lo que es lo mismo de Conspirator, alter ego para Javier Rodríguez Prendes, que es quien está detrás de SKJULT. No es muy habitual llegar a conocer bandas de Cuba que practiquen metal extremo (ya no digo black metal). Haberlas haylas, pero que lleguen a tener repercusión fuera no tanto. Por eso me llamó la atención que el sello ruso Satanath y el alemán Black Metal Propaganda se fijaran en SKJULT y por eso mismo puse mi mirada en Progenies ov light, segundo trabajo de SKJULT. ¿Y qué tenemos? Arquetípico y clásico black metal, bien producido pero sin pomposidades excesivas, anclado en la tradición ortodoxa y con una ejecución creíble y buenos temas para expresarse. En definitiva, nada nuevo bajo el sol, en esta ocasión el sol del Caribe, pero muy disfrutable para los que somos fans de este estilo.
La base de SKJULT está entre IMMORTAL y DARK FUNERAL, los primeros por la forma de componer y de desarrollar los cortes, además de la propia voz de Conspirator. Los segundos por la velocidad que a veces alcanzan y por la producción. Añadiría en los pasajes más ambientales algo de los MARDUK del La grande danse macabre y poco más. Y poco menos también, porque con unas referencias tan características hay que hacer las cosas muy bien para destacar. Y la verdad es que Conspirator lo hace bien, ante todo lo hace creíble y sabe transmitir con sus temas. Tanto en las partes más rápidas, con unas melodías muy afiladas y “noruegas”, además de rítmicamente variadas y adictivas, a lo INQUISITION; como en las partes más densas, envolventes y cabeceantes. Partes que se combinan en mayor o menor medida en cada tema y que los hace alejarse de la continuidad y el aburrimiento.
Como suele pasar es clave el primer tema. SKJULT pasa de introducciones. Desde el primer segundo de “Into the void” nos vemos golpeados por todos los ingredientes de la banda cubana, en este caso con predominio de la rapidez y de los blast beats. Por cierto, mención aparte para el sonido. La batería, interpretada también por Conspirator, está muy bien ecualizada, aunque no me termina de convencer del todo el sonido que han logrado con los platos, que es más artificial de lo que uno desearía. Por lo demás, en las partes rápidas el bajo está bastante tapado, pero también tiene su espacio en los momentos más a lo MAYHEM y tanto el volumen de las guitarras como la voz, que es lo más IMMORTAL de todo, están bien producidas.
Algunos riffs son muy “sinfónicos”; de hecho, la masacre sónica que es “Immolation rites“, que aumenta la velocidad de la batería más si cabe, es muy orquestal, y es algo que se repite en muchos riffs como los de “Glorious night“, corte más envolvente y donde la voz de Conspirator es muy Abbath. La variedad rítmica es también suficiente como para individualizar los cortes, e incluso en temas como “A crown of horns” es muy amplia, llegando a resultar hasta rebuscada, dejando patrones más simples de seguir para temas más rápidos como los dos primeros o “Hail blasphemous hated (The Lord is upon us)“, al que se le ve venir desde su inquietante inicio y no defrauda.
Progenies ov light está dentro de la media de lanzamientos black que no innovan pero transmiten lo suficiente y tienen la calidad necesaria como para ser abrazados con entusiasmo por los aficionados al género. SKJULT escupe su odio desde lo más profundo del Caribe, y es que también la oscuridad se cierne sobre Cuba.

Cuban black metal. Vox are of the frog croak variety, leaving the sound somewhere between Tsjuder, Inquisition and Immortal, with a bombastic Norwegian sound on the band end of the equation.
It’s not exactly vintage, even for the more mainstream leaning, overly codified latter end of the 90’s, but it sounds more “true” than most of what claims to be “black metal” these days (bar Finland, who seems to have their own surprisingly strong thing going on of late…)
Bottom line, I wasn’t super excited over this one…but it was wholly listenable, felt closer to “right” than usual and I could easily see it coming along as accompaniment for long drives.
All things being equal, and black metal per se being as iffy as it is
nowadays? Take it as a definite recommendation.

Skjult is actually a Norwegian words that in English means hidden. I addition Skjult is also a Cuban black metal band. The band are now actual with the album Progenies Ov Light of 41 minutes and 43 seconds. Skjult is a one-man band that provide a raw but tasty black metal that probably many of the genre lovers would enjoy enormously? Skjult, through whith its lone member Conspirator channels his dark and devilish creative impulses. 2016 brought forth Skjult’s first album,
There’s still a rawer edge to the instrumentation throughout the new record, but compared to Skjult’s debut the production values come off feeling more polished and there is clear separation between the guitar, bass, and drums that work together to deliver a bleak sound. The new album, which consists of seven songs and a bonus track that appears as a tribute to the deceased Norwegian Trond Alastor Nefas (Urgehal/Beastcraft).
There is plenty of blast beats and speed on Progenies Ov Light but Dawn Of An Era Ov Light is one of the slower numbers and it uses that to its advantage with riffing that portrays a sense of destruction and desolation. Skjult’s second full length has taken the elements from the band’s debut and refined them further, delivering a destructive release that pulls from a number of clear influences but never sounds too close to one particular group. We probably should keep an eye on Cuba as the country has produced some hellish black metal on par with other parts of the world.
Strong riffs combined with the fastest blast beats and the deepest and cruel vocals sounds emerging from the very depths of the abyss may be a proper description of this album. The album is very aggressive and very cold, and a real black metal fan would probably raise his or hers eyebrows after listening to the music from Conspirator. Progenies Ov Light is recommended for fans of Dark Funeral, Funeral Mist, Urgehal, Beastcraft, early Belphegor, and Watain.

Desde Rusia a manos de Satanath Records nos llega "Progenies Ov Light" y tambien de un mismo bloque esta vez de la Habana (Cuba). Si desde la isla caribeña nos llega este segundo album, para comenzar esta reseña son muy pocas las bandas que he escuchado de esa region, a veces a uno mismo se le olvida que la musica y por consiguiente el metal es una expresion universal, expansiva que no admite criterios cerrados en muchisimos casos, aunque el estilo que practique Skjult no esta guardado para las masas conformistas, no puedo dejar de sorprenderme gratamente, por lo exotico de su procedencia y la calidad de su propuesta. El one man band esta compuesto por Conspirator, el mismo toca todos los instrumentos en el disco, hace tambien las liricas, incluyendo la produccion, el diseño y el layout, nada mas comienza los primeros sonidos de la pista con el tema que abre esta opus "Into The Void", nos impresiona la versatilidad y la claridad de las ideas, "Immolation Rites" es Black Metal del mas tradicional y aguerrido, como manda velocidad, rabia, odio, una aclamacion de la muerte, "Summoning The Eternal Black Flames Of Death", continua la senda oscura de blasfemia, mucha oscuridad y una despediada produccion hacen que mejore las buenas expectativas principales, "Glorious Night", es un track a medio tiempo donde se escupe el vomito negro de un culto claramente transcendental donde juega un papel importantisimo la ambientacion sonica de como Skjult, evoca desde el plano material de el cosmos, el aire de la noche y el sendero luminoso de los secretos del arte negro, "Hail Blasphemous Hated" (The Lord Is Upon Us), es otra declaracion de principios donde los anagramas de la musica se manifiestan en su mejor manera, "A Crown Of Horns", a estas altura del cd es la confirmacion de un concepto nitido, que por momentos toca el lado satanico, luciferino y misantropico de este genero que te dice en tu propia cara y en tu mente lo tomas o lo dejas, mientras que "Dawn Of An Era Ov Light", es el track mas lento, aqui al parecer la llamarada del fuego y los portales del cosmos reciben las peticiones, es el tema mas flojo de todos pero que no es tan influyente como para restarle meritos a la buena canalizacion, disposicion y exposicion de autentico metal negro, el bonus track "Baptized By Unholy Goat" cierra este capitulo con una breve introduccion y luego, unas devastadores guitarras unidas con metralla de baterias y voces enloquecedoras, caoticas, vaya temazo para finalizar un muy buen disco si gustas de bandas como Funeral Mist, Marduk, Dark Funeral, estas en lo tuyo a su salud maniacos!!!!

A Cuban black metal band with a Norwegian name. Talk about being international. I think that I have come upon some Cuban bands in the past but I cannot remember the names of them. It is not that rare these days to find Cuban metal bands making it abroad with their music. SKJULT are a black metal band. The name is a real give-away. Not the meaning of it (hidden) but because it is a Norwegian word. Sure, there are examples of bands using words not from their native tongue that are not black metal but 9 out of 10 cases it is black metal. But apart from the name this is very Norwegian in sound. There is that classic 90s black metal feel to this. Kinda like Darkthrone before they went all punk. Or Satyricon before they went all groovy. This is a good black metal album.

Wow, Black Metal has reached Cuba as well, that's impressive. Although a one man band, this Skjult act is if not the first, certainly among the first Metal acts I've heard emerging from this exotic (to most of us) country. And the surprise is Skjult actually sounds damn well, its form of occult, deep, oppressive sounding Black Metal sounds way better than I would have expected, that's for sure. This is fast paced, pounding, relentless, brutal Black Metal heavily influenced by bands like Urgehal (mostly by them), Dark Funeral or Watain delivered with a seriously dense and oppressive atmosphere which I think is the best feature in Skjult's music. Conspirator, the man behind this project, did his homework well and produced a solid material with plenty of good riffs, brutal drumming that although programmed (I think) doesn't sound synthetic or out of place at all, actually it sounds natural and improves the depth of this material. What can I say, a find discovery, not something to inovate or bring something original to the table, but an act that sounds honest and 100% devoted to its art.

Jo pelkän nimen perusteella, musiikista puhumattakaan, olisin veikannut Skjultia ruotsalaiseksi. Kun vuonna 2015 perustetun yhtyeen toinen levy, Progenies Ov Light, räjähtää käyntiin, ei ole epäilystäkään etteikö yhtye olisi pohjoismaalainen. Vaan kun ei ole. Bändissä vaikuttaa vain yksi henkilö: vuonna 1982 syntynyt kuubalainen Javier Rodríguez Prendes, tuttavallisemmin Conspirator.
Skjult ei periaatteessa tee mitään uutta ja ihmeellistä – ellei ihmeelliseksi laske sitä, miten hyvä se tämän levyn perusteella sooloprojektiksi on. Aiempaa tuotantoa kuulematta on paha vertailla, mutta väliäkö tuolla: juuri tämä levy on kaikessa tyylipuhtaassa norsecoressaan hyvä!
Jos Skjultille pitäisi kaikista norsecore-bändeistä löytää verrokki, mikä se olisi? Ensimmäisenä mieleen tulee Dark Funeral. Yhtyeissä on paljon samaa: nopea tempo, synkät melodiakulut ja yleinen mustanpuhuva tunnelma. Perstuntumalta sanoisin, että myös soundimaailmat terävine kitaroineen ovat kovin samankaltaiset – puhumattakaan raspisesta ärinälaulusta.
Se, miten hyvin Progenies Ov Lightin eri osat naksuvat kiinni toisiinsa, merkitsee paljon. Levyä on miellyttävä kuunnella ja sen synkkä pahaenteisyys on napakasti kohdallaan. Levy onkin monessa mielessä kuin välähdys menneestä, kultaisista 90-luvun vuosista, jolloin koko genre vielä eli alkuvuosiensa pioneeriaikakautta.
Mitäpä sitä turhaan lässyttämään enempiä: Progenies Ov Light on alkuvuoden 2018 parhaita black metal -levyjä ja oikeastaan samalla koko vuoden genreparhaimmistoa. Olisi sääli, jos näin hyvä levy menisi ohi pelkän kotimaansa vuoksi.

Я, конечно, ценю таланты и возможности издающего лейбла Satanath Records, его неустанную работу по поиску и печатанию самого черного металла по всему миру. Но все-таки был (в очередной раз) удивлен. Куба? Вот теперь и Куба! Вообще, вроде бы первый раз слушаю металл из этой страны. Ну что ж, скидок, товарищи, не будет, и талонов. Нет, талоны будут, - в виде OBI. Это такая дополнительная полиграфия к диску - вкладывается в запечатываемый диск, на которой на русском и инглише рассказано вкратце, что и почем. Удобная штука. Сразу микрообзор прикручен к компакт-диску.
Так вот, Skjult оказывается уже второй диск выпускает. Это проект одного человека - Conspirator его зовут, иногда сам приходит. Играл еще в нескольких группах с Кубы (Shrine ov Absurd, Thore, ex-Dawn of Madness, ex-Heretik, ex-Darkening, ex-The Chaos Nether Silence, ex-Nergal), и таким образом, я сразу обогатился познаниями о экстремальной металльной сцене еще одной страны из Центральной Америки. И вот это сразу — если вы думаете, что музыкант там декламирует про кубинскую революцию и проч, то - зря, бросьте... Conspirator, будучи волком-одиночкой, создает реальный трушный блэк-ритуал. И понятно, отчего бы и нет? Если получается у мексиканцев и боливийцев...
Это реально качественный и аутентичный, скоростной и мидтемпо, грозный и грузный блэк метал, с выведенной вперед ритм-секцией, закрепленный знаковым звериным вокалом, местами более атмосферик, местами ритуальный, многими частями динамичный. Watain-образный, с шикарной пилорамной гитарой, что принимает самые крепкие древа, выпуская на тот свет готовые адские изделия, при том витиевато выплевывая красные опилки.
Для примера возьмем композицию Summoning The Eternal Black Flames Of Death. Эта на пять с половиной минут (всего альбом открывает двери в чистилище на 41 минуту). Гитарное горячее пламя бьет с самого старта и туда же, - для того, чтобы накалиться, примыкает вокал, низкий, каркающий скриминг, с которым Конспиратор обращается вполне оперативно и умело, что само по себе уже талант. И этот тактический дуэт поддержан барабанами войны, которые, как в том анекдоте, - «постучали снизу», да уж, - будем говорить правду, «молотили снизу», немилосердно, ожесточенно и в лучших традициях труйного блэка.
Из убойных - трэк Dawn Of An Era Ov Light - как раз мид-темповый, выкапывающий - словно титанический экскаватор гигантскую яму, заполненную дымами зарождающихся струнных соляков, а понизу — тонны и тонны гранитных камней, взорванных ритм-секционными подрывами. Несколько торжественный и апокалиптический. С запахом серы и адреналином беснующихся, испуганных животных...

The Black Metal I generally listen to these days leans to the dissonant side. I’m not into Atmo-Black or Raw as much as I used to be and the straightforward variety will probably always be fun, but isn’t particularly inventive. Sometimes I find a diamond in the rough though, and Progenies ov Light is one of those times. Pretty straightforward, but leaning to the raw side, one man Cuban project Skjult brings the misery with savage riffs, attacking drums, and bile pouring forth from his throat. Sometimes passion is the key ingredient, as seems to be the case here. The composition and playing is all well done, make no mistake, but I can’t find anything in particular that stands out. And yet, the album grips me. Give it a listen. I bet it will grip you too.

Jeśli ktoś śledzi moje recenzje, to pewnie zauważył, że wprost uwielbiam black metalowe „wynalazki” z różnych dzikich krajów. A im bardziej nieoczywisty kraj, tym mocniej mam ochotę posłuchać czegoś z ichniejszego black metalu.
Wybierał się kiedyś na Kubę mój znajomy. A że to człowiek z tzw. Branży, to poprosiłem go, żeby znalazł mi tam jakiś black metal. Od dawna zastanawiałem się, czy na tej odciętej od świata wyspie jest coś takiego jak metal w ogóle, ale nigdzie w internetach nie znalazłem żadnych fizyczniaków. Kolega także wrócił z pustymi rękami i tak umarło moje marzenie o prawdziwym kubańskim blacku.
Aż tu niespodziewanie dostałem maila od Naczelnego z zapytaniem, czy nie mam ochoty na kubański black metal o wiele mówiącej nazwie Skjult. Na odpowiedź nie musiał czekać dłużej niż nanosekundę.
Progenies ov Light to drugi album w dorobku tego jednoosobowego projektu, wydany przez niezawodną wytwórnię Satanath Records. Nawiasem mówiąc, pseudonim artystyczny Conspirator bardzo mi pasuje do ogólnej atmosfery, w jakiej musi żyć ten muzyk. Pewnie nawet jego rodzice nie wiedzą, co robi w swoim garażu. Black metal w kraju buenavistowskiego totalitaryzmu to musi być kwiatek na kożuchu! Już za sam pomysł grania tak egzotycznego rodzaju muzyki w kraju, w którym rynek muzyczny raczej nie istnieje, zasługuje na najwyższą ocenę. A jak prezentuje się zasadnicza część tego projektu?
Okładka (a zwłaszcza logo projektu) prowadzi z miejsca do inklinacji i inspiracji oraz korzeni norweskich. Wewnątrz tego czarnego albumu znajduje się osiem utworów, trwających łącznie nieco ponad czterdzieści minut. A wszystko w klasycznym norweskim klimacie drugiej black metalowej fali. Klasyczny brudny growl przywodzi na myśl wczesny Darkthrone. Blastująca szybka i nieco wytłumiona perkusja to także klasyka gatunku. A jak się do tego doda brudną ścianę mocno przesterowanych gitar, dających wskazówki co do ogólnej linii melodyjnej utworu, to mamy tu norweski full a’la wczesne lata dziewięćdziesiąte. A jak jeszcze na okrasę dorzucimy do tego nieco surową i przytłumioną edycję albumu, to obraz robi się kompletny o realny niczym hologram. Gdzie więc tkwi sukces?
W moim przypadku sukcesy są dwa. Po pierwsze, przywożone przez kumpla prosto z Norwegii płyty z początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych ukształtowały moje muzyczne gusta i akurat mnie nie razi taka prosta zrzynka z norweskich „niedetronizowalnych” królów i cesarzy. Po drugie, tak norwesko-zimne klimaty wprost z gorącej Kuby? Pomysł równie niedorzeczny, jak sama idea stworzenia black metalowej kapeli w kraju, który do niedawna żył jeszcze w latach pięćdziesiątych i sześćdziesiątych. Czyli w czasach, w których o black metalu nikomu się nawet jeszcze nie śniło!

El nombre de esta “one man band” no debe confundirnos ya que estamos en presencia del primer disco de una banda oriunda de Cuba que nos toca reseñar, y el espectro mundial del RRWZ sigue agrandándose. El sitio Metal Archives dice que hay en la actualidad 45 bandas activas en la isla caribeña, y Skjult es una de ellas.
Dejemos la estadística para otro momento, y adentrémonos en este "Progenies ov light”, segundo álbum de este proyecto liderado e interpretado en su totalidad por Javier Rodríguez Prendes (aquí presentándose como Conspirator), que nos propone casi 40 minutos de un correcto black metal sin ningún tipo de arista ni mixtura, al estilo escandinavo, bien trve.
El resultado no es malo, el disco se deja escuchar, pero también es cierto que a estas alturas el género esta ultra-trillado. Hay no obstante una saludable intención por parte de Conspirator de hacer las cosas bien, innovando dentro sus posibilidades, sonando bastante convincente y crudo.

Progenies Ov Light, the new Skjult I really like a very professional sound, and very well executed and achieved, really incredible the majesty of many of his songs, one by one the pists on the album are a total apocalypse that does not give you chance to breathe, without the slightest pity one stab after another. Black pure metal in essence and without detours, a fairly homogeneous and concrete concept of who are as a band and where they go as the same. I have to admit that I do not know more than five or six, maybe seven bands from Cuba when it comes to the harsher side of the music(k)al spectrum. Yet as from now on, I can add another one to this (way too limited) list: Skjult. Apparently it is the brainchild of one Conspirator, born as Javier Rodriguez Prendes. The guy seems to be the former bass player of bands like The Chaos Nether Silence, Heretik or Darkening, and currently he’s active as sole member under monikers like Shrine Ov Absurd, Thore and this one, Skjult. The latter was formed in 2015, and in Winter 2016 he recorded and released the album Within The Flesh; first independently, then via Cvlminis, and later that very same year through Satanarsa Records and Old Spirit Productions.
In early 2017, Conspirator entered the Havana-based Profane Misanthropic Craft Studio to record his second official album, Progenies Ov Light. He wrote, recorded, produced everything himself; even the lay-out and extremely fine cover artwork are from his hand / mind. The album gets released via Russia’s Satanath Records (thanks to Aleksey to introduce me to this band!) in conspiracy with a new label, Black Metal Propaganda Deutschland from, indeed, Deutschland. The six-page, three-folded booklet contains the lyrics (in English), which deal with misanthropy, darkness, blasphemy and hatred.
Progenies Ov Light convinces as from the very beginning, even though it lacks originality. The project finds its inspiration within the scene of the Nineties, even though the sound quality adds a contemporary touch. It does not mean that the production is too clean, for it surely maintains that necessary dark-edged roughness. The mix however is very modern in a decent way, with a perfect balance in between all instruments.
In general, the nine hymns on Progenies Ov Light are melodic, fast-paced and obscure. These three things (melody, tempo and darkness) will be explained little more. When it comes to the melodic part, especially the string section comes with those structures that were not that uncommon two decades ago in Scandinavia. It does not mean that Skjult are a rip-off from the Norwegian or Swedish scene. But in combination with the technical execution, the melodies are very comparable to that glorious past. Besides, the firm rhythm section heavily supports the melodious ‘spine’. Especially the drums convince. This easily brings me to the speed. As said, most parts are energetic and fast, with some explosive excerpts too. Here are the drum patterns again, for they thunder and blast quite often. But the great thing is that there is a lot of variety within the drums / percussion section: artillery salvos are nicely interspersed by almost organic drum parts. Anyway, the up-tempo character sometimes gets injected by slower passages too, which is nothing but a surplus. These decelerated chapters are almost suffocating, for they are oh so doomed and grim. It even reveals hints of the earliest pre-Post efforts from Norwegian soil (Khold / Taake and co.). Tertio, the obscurity I was referring too, is obvious. Take the vocal timbre, for example. Conspirator has not that typifying ‘scream’ that is not uncommon within the Black Metal scene, and it is certainly not of the ‘high-pitched’ kind. Still is sounds bleak and guttural, like breathing burning sulphur. The whole atmosphere is oppressive and rejected of light, and this too reminds me of the Scandinavian scene from the end of last century.
Oh yes, the album ends with a track that acts as a tribute for late Trondr Nefas (Vulture Lord, Beastcraft, Bloodsworn, Urgehal, Angst Skvadron and many more; rest in peace, brother). It’s f*cked-up, beastly, maniacal, malicious and barbarian, so just great. Trond, say ‘thank you’ from the great hall where you’re drinking with Quorthon and all of our brothers-in-arms!
For fans of Taake, Enthroned, Gorgoroth, Urgehal, Khold, Endstille, Dark Funeral, Tsjuder and the likes…

Lorsqu'on évoque Cuba, un certain nombre de clichés éculés nous viennent instantanément -et inévitablement- à l'esprit. On pense tout de suite forcément à l'île des Caraïbes au climat ensoleillé, à son charme latino, à la Salsa, à ses langoustes, à ses cigares, voire même à son pseudo-romantisme révolutionnaire marxiste, à Fidel Castro et autre Che Guevara.
Bref on pense à tout sauf... au Black Metal. Et pourtant...
Eh oui. Aussi improbable cela puisse-t-il a priori sembler, le Black Metal cubain existe bel et bien. Et s'il compte au moins un digne représentant, c'est bien le one-man band SKJULT, mené par un Havanais répondant au doux nom de Conspirator.
Sur ce second album, celui-ci nous assène huit titres d'un Black Metal orthodoxe s'incrivant nettement dans la veine de la fine fleur norvégienne des années 90. On songera par exemple tout particulièrement à GORGOROTH -dont l'extrême et très noir minimalisme des premières pochettes d'albums n'est peut-être pas étranger à l'esthétique plutôt dépouillée de celle de SKJULT- , ou bien encore à URGEHAL et autre TAAKE, voire même à IMMORTAL. Ce n'est d'ailleurs pas pour rien que le nom même du projet est en fait un mot norvégien, skjult pouvant se traduire par caché, occulte...
C'est brutal sans être ultra-bourrin, flirtant même avec le mid-tempo sur le morceau Dawn of an Era ov Light, chargé d'ambiances ténébreuses, le tout accompagnant comme il se doit des vocaux d'outre-tombe imprégnés de haine et de rage démoniaque. Tous les ingrédients classiques sont donc ici réunis, pour un résultat global que l'on jurerait tout droit surgi des profondeurs glacées de Scandinavie, à la grande époque... Et ce qui est en outre fort appréciable, c'est que sans pour autant être surproduit, ce disque pressé à seulement 500 exemplaires bénéficie tout de même d'une production de qualité qui lui confère un son intense et puissant, contribuant ainsi à mettre en valeur des compos efficaces.
Bref, sans révolutionner le style, mais en parvenant à en maintenir fièrement la flamme avec brio, SKJULT parvient véritablement à tirer son épingle du jeu en s'imposant comme une nouvelle référence de qualité. Une référence certes quelque peu exotique, mais crédible, et qui par-là même ne peut que forcer le respect et attirer l'attention. Signalons par ailleurs qu'un troisième album devrait voir le jour en février 2020. A suivre de près, donc.

That the solo act is based in Cuba may explain how the band professes to the music of Satan, black metal, yet has an album called Progenies Ov Light. The slower track before last is called Dawn of An Era Ov Light. The lyrics, which are included, betray no weakness to a fabled Jesus or whatever/whomever. So, how is the music? It is triumphantly fabulous. The music is not perfect because it suffers a drum machine and the man, in his haste to blast, maim and kill, foregoes any guitar solos, but everything else is as fine as can be.
The album begins with a patented Dissection riff and the song Into The Void. The sheer face ripping velocity, barbarism and ferocity does not let up until the mid-paced Dawn of An Era… which is a testament to the man named Conspirator. The music is influenced by Dissection, Watain and old Mayhem. The vocals curdle one’s blood and yield to no one. The quality of these speedy riffs put most bands to shame easily. It is just that few can withstand the power of the band’s assault. This is stuff for the purists.
Skjult betrays no ethnic, Cuban or Caribbean stupidity nor takes a backseat to bands from more established countries in terms of music or production. As such, Satanath has a winner on its hand. As for the paradoxical monicker: well, no one is complaining about Marduk so never mind.

Cuba sounds exotic for me and it`s where this band come from. The name of this one person project is possibly Norwegian and so is the music veeeeery much. Grim vocals and black metal tune of all instruments is sort of Skjult`s music inheritance of 90`s European (Scandinavian in particular) black metal. This type of music has devoured the interest of people from entire world at the time and tendency continues till this very moment. This album sounds seriously like it was done somewhere in Old Continent but instead, Progenies Ov Light brings it from the country that almost nobody knows nothing about metal in general.
I think it`s vital that the production of the album is dismal - you could feel desolated among cosmic stars and dust. The sound is very dark and carriers harsh sound and the music. This album surprises me by fact that it`s confident and consistent in delivering quality tracks. The songs constantly transmits chaos in form of freezing, cold like darkness songs which basically summarizes the entire music of this album. When songs are slower I feel great profanity and atmosphere of music. When pace is faster I enjoy thick drum beats and vocal shrieks while raw guitars fulfill and complete the sound. If you like Dark Funeral and Immortal, it`s another reason to catch up with music of Skjult.
I totally identify with this album...It has excellent integrity of sound, lyrics, graphic arts and music. I am calm and relaxed when I listen to it and I think that everybody should have this album. No, a must have!
Conspirator (all music, instruments, vocals) from Cuba, he went to the recording studio like normally other bands do, and recorded there professionally produced black metal album. I am writing here about Lucifer Hominum Salvator, which is the record that consists of classic sounding songs, in the style of early Immortal, Satyricon and Dark Funeral.
Skjult plays its music at slow (Lvcifer Hominum Salvator), slow-fast (A Star Down Below), medium (Lawless God) or faster pace (Under The Serpent's Banner). The songs are built on guitar rhythms (The Sight – my favourite Skjult song) and harmonies (The Way Back To The Source), which sounds catchy at times. Cold guitar riffs vitally determine the overall sound and music comprehension of the album. Bleak black metal style of the band has moments of sonic hopelessness where guitar shreds deliver grimness to its darkness, to which the music of Skjult is attracted to, and prevails in this realm. The coldness of black metal sound suppresses any signs of light that could be unveiled in melodic riffs - which you are unlikely to hear on this album (well, perhaps there is some melodic glimpse in guitar solo). Production of drums is very good in songs - single and double kick drums sound very distinct and are very well accented in music, as well as cymbals – it all hoarfrosts the core sound of Skjult. Harsh guitar sound embraces the groove of music and preserve its 90`s black metal music influence. Raven-like vocals search for Luciferian wisdom and its black light in distant stars which you can find about in lyrical content of the album. This album has no fire spreading riffs, like for instance a leading riff in Mother North by Satyricon, but I have to admit that I have been listening L.H.S from start to finish with unstoppable interest. It`s because this album accepts no compromises, and music, even at its revisiting the black metal genre frame - as it is done on this album, can still grab you by simplicity and presence of evil. This album is kind of atmospheric by its measured-pace and sometimes longing guitar passages, which is its strength, but the band is rather aimless toward this direction of music, it just happens along.
Skjult "Lucifer Hominum Salvator"- this is how you play black metal on your own and produce it as you were a band. Respect!
