The  UnHuman  Thorn  are  a  solo  project  from  Chile  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  with  some  death  metal  elements  and  this  is  a review  of  his 2016  album  "Sacro  Kvltus Dementis"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions  and  Base  Record Productions.

Semi  distorted  clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  which  also  introduces  grim  and  high  pitched  screams onto  the  recording  while  the  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo picking  can  be  heard.

During  the  fast  sections  of  the  songs  the  music  has  a  very  raw  feeling  while  elements  of  death  metal  can  also  be  heard  and  the  music  also brings in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  also  being  very extreme  at  the  same  time.

Spoken  word  parts  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  tracks  and  after  awhile  growls  also  make  their  presence  known  in  the  music  and  all  of  the musical  instruments  sound  very  powerful  and  when  clean  singing  is  utilized  it  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  as  the  album progresses  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  on  some  of  the  songs  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length.

The  UnHuman  Thorn  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  heavy,  fast  and  aggressive  while  also  being  very  influenced  by  death  metal,  the production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Spanish  and  English  and  cover  Anti  Christianity,  Hate,  Blasphemy and  Darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  The  UnHuman  Thorn  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres, you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nova  Inquisition"  "My  Own  Damnation"  "Into  the  Abomination  Cult"  and "As  We  Create,  We  Destroy".

Desde las fauces de San Antonio braman un contiguo de acordes retorcidos junto a poderosos y variados riff holgados en black, thrash, death y más que dan el inicio a The Unhuman Thorn banda de black metal con barnices de thrash y death que otorgan barridas de atmósferas que aportan virtud a un proyecto “one man band” que demostró en vivo en el recital del 18 de junio de 2016 en el bar Bohemio de San Antonio junto a The Owner banda de Santiago e Infernal Spell banda de San Antonio, en donde los Blas beat de TUT, dobles bombos, gritos desgarradores y riff sostenidos fueron capaces de presentarse frente a la blasfemia del Puerto del Litoral Central Chileno. Esto demuestra para los críticos de los proyectos “One Man Band” que este tipo de arte tiene un propósito cultural en donde la capacidad creativa del compositor fluye en un estado antisocial que en ocasiones en el futuro, se puede fusionar con personas capaces de ejecutar el trabajo creativo de una sola persona, lo que otorga mérito al compromiso de ejecutar algo que no es de tu propiedad intelectual. Al escuchar Sacro – Kultus dementis el primer tema del larga duración, que lleva el mismo nombre nos muestra la enajenación por la fe, en donde los rápidos riff, voces rajadas, cambios de ritmos lentos, coros perturbados vaticinan una gran propuesta, galopes desequilibrados, rítmicas atmosféricas profundas y llanas con coros recónditos, punteos melancólicos, doble bombo sostenidos en fuza, ritmos punk en percusión, conversaciones con voces habladas, guturales inquisidores, lamentos y desesperación en la lírica y vocalización un rasgueo marca el final.

Susurros, riff acelerados y gritos alaridos dan comienzo al segundo tema con riff monótonos, coros que desaceleran el tiempo para volver al blas beat, galopes poderosos que cambian el tema a un estilo más death metal, regresando a galopes industriales que a Serious Piyro, le recuerdan a Archy Enemy en sus inicios, con coros al más puro death metal old school.

Tema tres en castellano y titulado “Obsceno ritual de la auto destrucción”, en donde los ritmos más melódicos y menos monótonos, dan el pase a la característica monotonía black, en donde el bajo ultra poderoso y doom, marca un cambio que te arrastra hasta la esencia del Demontre, con voces habladas acompañadas de doble bombo, dan pase nuevamente a cambios de ritmos con riff sostenidos.

Tema ocho “The fall of de weaker” te invita a través de un monólogo tipo Hitler a prepararte para lo que se viene en el marco del quiebre de la corrupción moral de los cultos religiosos.

Sin lugar a dudas una muy buena producción en donde el valor de realizar un trabajo a cargo de una sola persona puede ser ampliamente criticado, sobre todo por la ejecución de la batería programada, aspecto que para mi punto de vista reviste un trabajo complejo, preciso, sistemático, largo y complicado. El resto de los instrumentos y las voces todo a cargo de Gonzalo Bal tienen absoluta validación. Las presentaciones en vivo de esta banda se pueden apreciar el 23 de Julio en Ele Bar Valparaíso.

A highly accomplished musician operating under the name of ‘Baal, The Unhuman’ is responsible behind this maliciously and evilly talented one man band that push the boundaries of blackened death metal to the human limits of speed, precision, and darkness.

The inhumanly fast drumming battery provides the framework for this band to build on. The orthodox black-death style riffs are consistently strong, but the vocal performance, that ranges from sickening shrieks to gutteral growls is what really steals the spotlight here. In fact, this album boasts the best vocals I’ve heard in extreme metal all year.

But it’s not just face-meltingly fast, punishing tracks that this act is capable of. Baal knows how to write a song AND blow your ears off at the same time. Standout track ‘My Own Damnation’ storms aead as a stand out the begins with a meaty swing beat before a double kick blizzard. ‘Into the Abomination Cult’ further displays this musicians command of rhythm with a choppy pulse and a devastating chorus.

This record is sure to remind old-school fans of how blackened death metal used to sound- before Belphegor ran out of ideas, before Nergal opened a barbershop and grew a hipster moustache. This record, which at first glance looks like another generic release into the abyss of the underground, in fact sets a dangerous example of what all aspiring extreme metal musicians should look up to.

A blackened death metal one-man project from Chile, The Unhuman Thorn‘s ‘Sacro-Kvltvs Dementis‘ is the second full-length album which is a higher production of its previous efforts and ‘Sacro-Kvltvs Dementis‘ is yet the most extreme album of The Unhuman Thorn.

The Unhuman Thorn ist das Soloprojekt des chilenischen Einzelkämpfers Baal, der auch noch bei Sadomasokhrist aktiv ist. 2008 rief er dieses unheilige Projekt ins Leben. Vor diesem Debüt gab es aber lediglich ein Demo. Bei Südamerika denkt man immer sofort an Sarcofago. So klingt The Unhuman Thorn aber nicht. Hier gibt es rasend schnellen Black Metal, wie man ihn sonst aus Asien kennt. Bands wie Impiety, Xasthur, Zygoatsis oder Surrender Of Divinity kommen mir zunächst in den Sinn, aber auch Horden wie Impaled Nazarene, Sacrocurse, Order From Chaos oder Conqueror aus anderen Teilen der Welt. Der Sound ist dünn und totaler Underground. Von der Masse kapselt sich Herr Baal ganz bewusst ab und schließt sich lieber im heimischen Keller ein, um allein zu sein und seinem grenzenlosen Hass zu frönen. Alles klingt gleich und bleibt nicht hängen, auch wenn die Musik an sich ganz gut gefällt. Minuspunkt ist jedoch ganz klar das programmierte Schlagzeug, das zwar schweineschnell, aber eben auch sehr steril und somit störend klingt. Kann man haben, muss man aber nicht. Nur für Puristen!

Mit „Sacro-Kvltus Dementis“ meldet sich das chilenische Ein-Mann-Projekt The Unhuman Thorn nach der „Eradication Process„-Demo vor 2 Jahren erneut zu Wort. Es bildet damit die zweite Veröffentlichung in der mittlerweile 8-jährigen Geschichte des Projekts.

 

 

Der Sound des Debüt ist richtig ordentlich, nicht zu roh, nicht zu klar mit kalten Gitarren und kraftvollen Drums. Musikalisch geht es überraschend abwechslungsreich zu Werke. Der erste Song, der Titeltrack geht dabei noch in Richtung klassischen Black Metals mit fast durchgängig hohem Tempo und Dauerfeuer der Blast Beat-Fraktion, das nur gelegentlich durch kleinere Soli unterbrochen wird. Im weiteren Verlauf bleibt der Grundsound zwar größtenteils der Gleiche, wird aber durch starke Thrash-Anleihen („Slaves Ov Perpetual Pain„) oder Ausflüge, die fast schon an schweren Black’n’Roll grenzen („Through The Endless Death„) und andere Spielereien aufgelockert und interessant gehalten ohne dabei die Atmosphäre zu zerstören. Grobe Schnitzer lassen sich dabei nicht erkennen, instrumentell gibts nichts zu meckern. Gesanglich liefert Baal, der Typ hinter der Band, richtig ordentliche düstere Screams ab, die gelegentlich in Growls übergehen, hier und da minimal daneben liegen, aber alles in allem richtig gut ins Ohr gehen.

 

The Unhuman Thorn liefert auf seinem ersten richtigen Album in 8 Jahren Bandgeschichte ein ordentliches Brett an Black Metal mit klassischen und frischen Einflüssen, der mit Aggression und Abwechslung punkten kann. Es scheint als hätte Baal die 8 Jahre sinnvoll zum Üben benutzt um nichts Halbgares auf die Masse loszulassen. Wenn ja, dann hat sichs gelohnt!

Os chilenos The Unhuman Thorn (ou melhor, o chileno Baal, o músico por trás desta one-man-band) podem ter um nome que não lembra ao diabo, mas o seu som é do mais potente que pode haver, uma bujarda blasfema que junta o melhor que pode haver da música extrema: blastbeats, riffs alucinantes e solos impressionantes. Sim, leram bem, solos. Trata-se de uma estreia discográfica que impressionana, não pela sua originalidade mas pela sua capacidade de criar um conjunto de músicas apelativas que até groove usam (ouvir a "Obsceno Ritual A La Autodestrucción")

Sometimes really fine music hits you like a bolt from the black. In this case, I received an album called “Sacro-Kvltus Dementis” for a review. It appeared to be the first full length recording of a Chilean band I never heard of before, named THE UNHUMAN THORN. Without doing any research on them, I wanted to get a short first impression on the album. And got blown away! To be honest, I did not expect too much from that album, but I was utterly wrong. Some cleaner guitar sounds within 30 seconds pave the way for a monster double bass inferno. So much for that “Short impression” - the album got me! The opening title track is a monster song that is on the edge of Dark Death and monstrous Black Metal, spiced with some guitar solo parts in a traditional Metal vein and an unexpected break. That's songwriting in the luxurious way! The following 'Nova-Inquisition' is an equally infernal, utterly dark tune, more Black, more of a hellish crossfire. And 'Obsceno Ritual A La Autodestruccion' plays the melodic Black Metal card, in a way I haven't heard that fine for years. 'Through The Endless Death' slows down the pace without losing the black intensity of the album. In the longer run, the high level of the album lowers a little bit, yet this is complaining on a high level, since songs like the remastered demo track 'The Fall Ov The Weaker' (varying speeds) still keep a very high level of blackness and intensity. And the final hate campaign 'As We Create, We Destroy' is a worthy end to one of the best Black Metal albums of the decade. And it comes from a band that not only is a one-man band with Baal being the only member, but also a band that only released a 3 song demo before “Sacro-Kvltus Dementis”.

Non male questo Sacro-Kvltus Dementis, primo lavoro sulla lunga distanza per The UnHuman Thorn, one man band cilena creatura maligna del polistrumentista Baal.

 

Attivo sulla scena dal 2008, ma con un solo demo alle spalle rilasciato tre anni fa, il musicista sudamericano crea quest’opera oscura, estrema e malvagia di raw blackened metal sanguinario e devastante, molto vario nelle atmosfere che si alternano tra massacranti parti black e lascive ed evocative atmosfere.

Una messa nera di quaranta minuti dove Baal, da malvagio sacerdote richiama i propri fedeli all’appuntamento con il maligno a suon di black metal, a tratti evocativo pur essendo basato su infernali e demoniache sfuriate metalliche e atmosfere pregne di malvagità, in un delirio di sudditanza a Satana.

Sotto l’aspetto prettamente musicale, siamo quantomai vicini alla scena est europea, Baal se la cava con gli strumenti e Sacro-Kvltus Dementis è prodotto abbastanza bene per risultare un ascolto piacevole.

Le tracce vivono di questa alternanza tra parti black ed oscure nenie messianiche, il punto di forza dell’album, pregne di atmosfere malate, pesanti ed abominevoli cantici intonati al demonio, sferzate da veloci ripartenze o mid tempo che concentrano potenza e cattiveria.

Obsceno ritual a la autodestrucción e Through the Endless Death formano l’accoppiata vincente di questo lavoro, cuore inumano dell’opera, seguite dalla devastante My Own Damnation, altro brano meritevole di menzione per l’ottimo lavoro sulle ritmiche, squartato da un riff forgiato direttamente tra le fiamme dell’inferno.

Per i cultori del black metal che non si fermano alle solite produzioni europee, Sacro-Kultus Dementis potrebbe risultare una piacevole sorpresa.

Trattasi di una one man band cilena che ha fatto del Black oltranzista una parola d’ordine. Non ci sono particolari innovazioni tecniche o stilistiche in questa uscita, sembra di stare ascoltando il prototipo dell’album Black Metal, quello furente e carico d’odio verso ogni cosa che respira o no. Chiaro, è un album Black Metal tra tanti, ma è sempre il solito discorso: nell’era delle mega produzioni pompate in stile ultimi Dimmu Borgir, il rischio serio era quello di perdere la genuinità e la spontaneità in un genere che faceva almeno inizialmente di queste caratteristiche una bandiera. Ecco, con i The UnHuman Thorn questo rischio è drasticamente sceso…

Dieser Dornenstachel sitzt tief, denn er wird mit einer ungeheuren Wut ins Fleisch gerammt – und das unmenschlich tief! Bei den Chilenen von THE UNHUMAN THORN herrscht bereits seit knappen acht Jahren die ungebändigte Vernichtung, doch erst jetzt können die Südamerikaner ihre Wut erstmals in vollem Umfang entfesseln. "Sacro-Kvltus Dementis" heißt das Feuerwerk der menschenverachtenden Bösartigkeit, das die Band mit höchstem Energieaufwand und massiver Aggression in die Luft schießt. Und es müsste wahrhaftig mit dem Teufel zugehen, wenn die Herrschaften mit ihrem offiziellen Debüt nicht sofort den Durchbruch in die elitäreren Kreise des Undergrounds schaffen wird.

 

Auf der neuen Scheibe gönnt die Band ihren Zuhörern keine einzige Ruhepause, obschon man nicht durchgängig im Uptempo agiert. Doch die pfeilschnellen Attacken, die sich in das finstere Gemisch aus puristischem Black Metal und hymnischen Todesblei-Momenten eingenistet haben, sind das Salz in der Suppe dieser neun Kompositionen. 'Obsceno Ritual A La Autodestrucción' und 'The Fall Ov The Weaker' setzen die Standards und präsentieren eine vielseitig auftrumpfende Kapelle, die ihr Heil zwar immer wieder in der puren Raserei sucht, darüber hinaus aber auch ein paar epische Backings in den Sound einbaut. Trotz ihrer übermäßig rauen Ausstrahlung entwickeln sich Nummern wie 'Into The Abomination Cult' und 'Nova-Inquisition' zu bestialischen Hymnen, die aus dem teuflischsten Antlitz strahlen, das die Musiker aufbringen können. Und selbst vor dem Hintergrund, dass die greifbaren eigenständigen Elemente auf "Sacro-Kvltus Dementis" relativ rar gesät sind, ist man doch überwältigt von der schieren Brutalität, mit der pechschwarzer Metal hier in Szene gesetzt wird.

 

Eigentlich will man sich nicht ständig wiederholen, doch an dieser Stelle muss der Hinweis auf die beeindruckende Entwicklung des chilenischen Extrem-Metal-Undergrounds noch einmal angesprochen werden. THE UNHUMAN THORN ist ein weiterer First-Class-Act, der die Zuneigung des europäischen Publikums in jeglicher Hinsicht verdient hat und dem Genre anno 2016 einen deutlichen Stempel aufdrückt. Leider ist die erste Auflage auf 500 Einheiten limitiert, so dass man wirklich schnell sein muss, um dieses finstere Kleinod abgreifen zu können!

Mijn persoonlijke hoogtepunt van deze maand is ‘Sacro-Kvltus Dementis’ van The Unhuman Thorn, een eenmansband van ene Baal (die ook in Sadomasokhrist zit). Het project startte in 2008 te San Antonio, Chili en de ‘Eradication Process’ demo (2013) was het enige levensteken tot dusverre. Deze CD werd uitgebracht door Symbol Of Domination Productions, een sub label van Satanath Records. Deze grandioze CD is voor slechts acht dollartjes te koop via Satanath’s webwinkel.

 

Vanaf de eerste tonen van deze CD weet The Unhuman Thorn de luisteraar te boeien en zelfs te laten overwegen de biosfeer subiet te verlaten en een nieuwe dimensie binnen te klauteren. ‘Sacro-Kvltus Dementis’ is een CD die zowel fans van Dark Funeral’s ‘The Secrets Of The Black Arts’ (1996) als WAR’s ‘Total War’ (1997) MCD zal weten te pleasen. Wat is dit een overweldigende geweldige black metal CD geworden. Ik hoop dat deze ook eens op LP gaat uitkomen, want dan bestel ik alle kleuren vinyl. K-I-L-L-E-R!!!

En los mas de 15 años de actividad que lleva el RRWZ creo que esta es la primer banda chilena que me toca reseñar. Como sea, este es el disco debut de este proyecto en solitario liderado por Baal, quien se encarga de todos los instrumentos y las voces.

"Sacro-Kvltus Dementis” es un disco a todas luces prometedor, ya que The Unhuman Thorn tiene el horizonte bien claro, transitando de forma muy fluida tanto el black como el death, sin perder la brújula y apostando a conseguir una amplia gama de oyentes merced tanto a la furia y la crudeza como a la melodía y el gancho.

Las letras en inglés y en español son también un punto a favor y un gesto de Baal de no olvidar sus orígenes.

Muy buen debut, aun cuando quedan cosas por mejorar. Tengan esta banda muy en cuenta.

Progetto solista cileno di Baal, i The UnHuman Thorn nascono nel 2008 e sino al 2016 hanno avuto all'attivo un solo demo di tre tracce intitolato "Eradication Process", rilasciato nel 2014. Lo scorso anno hanno poi pubblicato il primo disco "Sacro-Kvltus Dementis" e il black metal — perché di black si tratta — dell'artista sudamericano si rivela subito per ciò che è: infilando uno dietro l'altro brani di stampo raw e classico, all'interno dei quali si alternano sfuriate in blast beat e tempi medi, è possibile percepire chiaramente sia l'influenza della scena scandinava che di quella est europea, così come l'arma estremamente fascinosa della componente luciferina.

 

Melodie infiammate e prestazioni vocali da posseduto si fanno strada nei quaranta minuti trasudanti odio che, per quanto imperfetti e in un paio di circostanze anche prevedibili nello sviluppo, esplodono inumani e maligni nella parte iniziale della scaletta; dalla prima traccia eponima alla quinta "My Own Damnation". Successivamente si assiste a una lieve flessione qualitativa in zona centrale, sino alla conclusione in crescendo di cattiveria della spietata "As We Create, We Destroy".

 

"Sacro-Kvltus Dementis" è il lavoro perfetto per chi giornalmente si ciba di pane e black metal, senza pretendere più di quanto già sviscerato delle decadi precedenti, riuscendo così a godersi senza troppi problemi le produzioni odierne. Non sorprende, ma può sicuramente piacere.

Чилийский инфернальный адепт блэк-дэта в проекте The Unhuman Thorn заварил этот профильный чугун с черно-смертельным варевом. А произвели этот диск на свет Symbol Of Domination (сублейбл Сатанат рекордс) и испанцы Base Record Production. В 14-ом году The Unhuman Thorn выпускал демку, и, что характерно, один трак из нее попал на сабжевый альбом. Наверное, достоен. Глава проекта все делает сам, а когда планируются концерты, то набирает толпу единомышленников, чтобы легче было излагать.

40 минут дичайшего варварства обрушивает на головы слушателей Baal, The Unhuman, который и творит все на альбомах. В первого же трака мы обнаруживаем начало категорического послания к обезумевшему человечеству, но так как человечеству все КАК ВСЕГДА по., то металлисты КАК ВСЕГДА принимают удар на себя. Им-то не привыкать. А ведь уже в траке 1 Баал вместе со всесокрушающими громобойными риффами и молниеносной ритм-секцией, вместе с этой ужасающей стеной звука, окропленной его раздерганным харшево-скримовым хрипящим вокалом, располагает и выдающиеся сольные партии, исполненные на гитаре, и вроде они как-то странно лежат здесь в блэковом раю (то есть, аду), но потом вспоминаешь!!! что это блэк-дэт. И в дэте - шикарный соляк, - это тема «на ура». И тут же - такой небольшой атмосферный мостик, построенный из вроде совершенно обыденных (кирпичей и) идей, НО как это сделано! Будто альбомов ...надцать уже выпущено. Баал рекомендует себя здесь как мастеровитого музыканта и одаренного композера.

С темой привинченных соляков он так и не расстанется до конца диска. И вы только порадуетесь этому. Потом будет вопрос, а блэк-дет здесь или дэт-блэк (какое слово последнее, то важнее по смыслу). Гигантская креативная машина будет работать, сваривая в единое целое металлический каркас структурного вжигания и вокалирования, причем где-то вам уже покажется, что здесь два певца... (а в траке 3 обнаруживаем уже, можно сказать, и чистый вокал, который мертвецки продекламировал пару-тройку фраз, и продолжил грызть свежатину).

И мосты также нужны, ибо они лежат в концепте этого альбома. Здесь вот (трак 3), например, посолиднее. То есть, я так понял, они будут разные, по-разному производящие впечатление. Общей целью имея в виду построение (гм, гм) ЭПИЧЕСКОГО настроя. В этом дэтово-блэковом произведении. Что, сами понимаете, не так и легко - не бросаясь в крайности. В данном случае автор идет к корням экстрима, имплантируя в траки по крохе человеческого «нормального» муз-контента. Только не стоит беспокоиться, все равно ИТОГОВЫЙ результат далек от медиа-среды homo sapiens.

В 4 даже запахло дум-дэтом и дум-блэком, поднимая градус кипения металлического материала. Вообще, в этом автор преуспевает. Хотя не будь данного фактора+, то здесь и делать-то было бы нечего. Мощный соляк детектед. Вдохновенный и взлетающий, как громадный летучая мышь, собравшаяся на вечерний перекус.

Серьезный микс ДЭТА и БЛЭКА предлагает нам автор, со всем старанием подключая нашу фантазию к двум эгрегорам металлической музыки. Удачно.
