Coldblood  are  a  band  from  Brazil  that  plays  a  very  satanic  form  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Indescribable Physiognomy  Of  The  Devil"  which  will  be  released  on  June  16th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  Records  and  Metallic  Media.

Horror  movie  samples  starts  off  the  album  going  going  into  a  heavier  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats can  be  heard  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  all  done  in  a  death  metal  growling fashion  while  high  pitched screams  can  be  heard  at  times.

A  small  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  some  of   the  guitar  riffing  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  very  dark  style  of  death  metal while  also  having  its  melodic  moments  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  while  also  having  a  more  up  to  date  take  on  the genre and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  atmospheric  sounds  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  and one  song  also  brings  in  a brief  use  of  classical  guitars  which  also  comes  down  the  chaos  for  a  few  seconds  while  one  of  the  songs  is  long  and  epic  in  length  and  they close  the  album  with  3  instrumental  tracks.

Coldblood  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  heavy  and  satanic  and  bring s in  a  lot  of  influences  of  the  90's  band  in  the  same  genre, the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Christian,  Occultism  and  Left  Hand  path  themes.

In  my  opinion  Coldblood  are  a  very  great sounding  satanic  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tetragrammaton"  "Cocoon  Of  Neophyte"  "Sulphur"  and  "metaphysical  Evil".

Spreading their leathery wings and escaping the confines of hell is Coldblood. And really they aren’t from hell of course-even though they may have relocated there-but they are from Rio de Janeiro. Their goal is to spread hellish nightmares, destroy anyone who dares get in their path and infect everyone and anyone with demonic death metal and with their newest release Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil there is a good yet soul desecrating feeling that there isn’t much that can stop this onslaught. After first forming in the early nineties then splitting up due to internal problems and reforming in 2000, they have released a handful of demos and two full lengths and are on the verge of releasing their third and terrorizing the world once again.

Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil is a release that gets under you skin right off the bat to only sear it and your flesh straight from your bones. This release is soaking in hell fire and enough fetid blood to make any death metal fan’s blood curdle. Each of the ten new songs on this release are bombastic and provide you with a neck slitting and skin flaying display of death metal. Even though there are demonic overtones to this record it is death metal in a raw and blood soaked form that make your hairs stand on end and make you cower in fear.

This is a monstrous album from these death dealers and from beginning to end they make you feel as though you are about to stare into the face of your maker. Each of the ten songs that are present here have an eerie and twisted atmosphere about them that make you feel as though you have been placed in a cell with a notorious killer that is about to rip your heart from your chest and devour it. Not only does Coldblood drain your marrow with a skull grinding pace, but when needed-such as on the song Metaphysical Evil-they can slow the tempo and make your death slow and painful.

When I first began listening to Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil I thought that what I was getting into was another straight forward death metal album but what I got was something more. There is a great amount of variation on this record and you never know what you are about to get from one track to the next. However, not only is there a great deal of variation, this release also is completely sinister and feels as though it gets even more so as the album rolls on. Sooner or later you feel your heart sinking lower and lower into your stomach as you get bombarded with music that is drenched in evil and revels in the horrors that it is about to bring you.

Every song rolls on providing you with face melting riffs and solos, a drum performance that shatters you bones and vocals that are demonic and spew forth through your speakers. Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil crushes you and buries you in a shallow grave only to be consumed by the creatures of the night. This record is immensely heavy and pours the demonic presence on thick as you can almost feel Satan sitting right beside you. If there was a “perfect” album to scorch the earth to and bring on a crusade with, this might just be it. This is unrelenting and purely punishing death metal that doesn’t let you out of its grasp for a moment.

Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil is menacing and monolithic and as soon as the last track stops, if you are still alive, you feel a strong need to keep listening.

The instant you see something as dark and foreboding as that piece right there, you know you’re about to set foot in some raw shit so you dive head first right into the blaze. Rooted in the harsh and unforgiving brutality of 90s death metal, ColdBlood come smashing in with their third full length album and it is a real treat for any fan of death metal who likes it as bloody as possible.

Riffs. Hooks, rhythms, riffs, riffs, and more riffs! That’s but an idea of the awesomeness that ColdBlood brings on “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil”, excluding three instrumental versions of songs already on the record. The sheer intensity and high levels of ferocity goes beyond what many bands fear to go to, but ColdBlood show that after 20+ years of being a band they have not lost a single iota of the idea of brutality they started out with, and all ten tracks off this album are brilliant testaments to that. This is true, original head banging material in its most primal form as the massive guitars, guttural bass, and immense rhythms done by the drums all come together to give you blood drenched riffs enhanced by the absolutely hellish vocals that fit everything just so well that it’s hard to imagine any other kind of vocals being done. Everything off of “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” is extremely fast and has a great sound to it that any death metal fan can get behind, and that’s something hard to imagine but I truly mean that because this is the kind of stuff that only us people who listen to the extreme end of metal can really appreciate and enjoyable. And let me tell you . . . there’s an absolute fuck ton of enjoyment to be heard with ColdBlood.

Ten uncompromising tracks that leave you a bleeding mass of flesh but awesome enough to where you’ll happily go through it over and over again, ColdBlood have created what could possibly be the best of its kind that I’ve heard in quite some time. The true underground has not given us something so nasty, so repulsive, or so disgustingly bloody in quite a while, and I know with all my heart that people will get years upon years of enjoyment out of “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” without a doubt in my mind.

Der Opener und  Death-Metal-Hammer “Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil” haut einen einfach um. Ein genialeren Opener kann man sich nicht vorstellen! Melodie gemixt mit Brutalität ergeben hier einen wirklich gnadenlosen Song. So erhält die Band einen durchaus eigenen Stil, der durch Abwechslung zu überzeugen weiß. Den Grundstock liefert basslastiger Death Metal, mit viel Aggression und Brutalität vorgetragen. Die Drumarbeit und die Geschwindigkeit sind höchst variabel gehalten, von Knüppel-aus-dem-Sack über Midtempo Stampfer bis hin zu langsamen Passagen verbindet sich alles zu einem aus den Boxen strömenden Fluß. Ein schneller Anfang, melodische Riffs in Abwechslung mit brutalem Gebolze, dann wieder Midtempo und ein atmosphärisches Mittelteil.

So findet man neben recht heftigen Death Metal Stücken, auch  technisch und melodisch sehr gut gelungene Songs, wie “Darkness Above The Firmament” mit einem recht schnellen Mittelteil oder das recht derbe “Bury The Universe". Der Sound ist recht roh gehalten, was aber angesichts des Status der Band verzeihlich ist.

The deeper you dive into the Brazilian metal scene, the more bands you find that deserve to be well known but seem to have been flying under the radar for a decade or more.  Coldblood is a great example, as the death metal band’s roots go back to 1992, putting them on the map around the same time as Krisiun. After two break-ups and several demo releases between 1994 and 2002, they reformed permanently in 2005 under the supervision of original drummer Markus Couttinho and have been releasing material ever since.  With the periods of inactivity, perhaps it’s not that surprising that ‘Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil’ is only their third full length overall, but it should be the one that puts them on a lot of people’s radar.

With the album set for release on June 16th as a co-release between Russia’s Satanath Records (who have been on a roll with killer material in 2016) and Metallic Media, we’re excited to premiere Bury the Universe, the ninth song.  It should only take a few seconds to realize that you’re getting some heavy hitting, old-school death metal from Coldblood.  The instrumentals start off with lumbering riffs that recall material from Deicide or Cannibal Corpse, switching to a mid-tempo groove at around a minute in.  It’s a familiar sound, but damn do these guys do it well, especially when the drums pound away mercilessly and the riffs are so bottom heavy that they feel like they’re going to punch right through your chest.  Coldblood recorded their material in Brazil and had it mixed/mastered in Germany, and the results are a sound that continues to embrace the old-school elements while having a modern flair that makes all of the instruments audible and makes them as destructive as possible.  But these guys aren’t just flying through the same riff the whole way, as there’s a scorching solo about three quarters of the way through that’s sure to grab your attention and the song ends with an acoustic outro that has a very ominous, foreboding feel.

Just having that crushing, brutal sound wouldn’t be enough without killer vocals to go with it, and thankfully Diego Mercadante is able to provide just that. While Mercadante has mainly played guitar in all of his previous and current bands, Coldblood gives him an opportunity to show off what he’s capable of.  He sticks with a guttural growl throughout Bury the Universe, hitting that filler range that towers over the guitar and bass work like a giant.   Even though the instrumentals are already incredibly dense and bottom heavy, the growls manage to add even more weight to the recording and will appeal to any death metal fan.  Groups like this can be made or broken by the abilities of their singer, and Coldblood’s has the intensity to help them stand out.

Much like Blood Red Throne, Coldblood is another old-school death metal band that’s been around since the 90s, their drummer is the only original member, and despite that they’re still capable of some brutal, destructive death metal.  Rest assured that if Bury the Universe had you banging your head and amped up, the rest of ‘Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil’ is capable of delivering the same type of quality material.  Check it out on June 16th!

Do you miss the days when death metal sounded pure, raw and -while not that technical- most of the times the passion that was emited to the listener was so strong that was just enough? Well, Coldblood with their new album is the ideal suggestion for you!

The band from Brazil is not new to the scene, they were formed back in 1992 and after several periods of inactivity they still exist in our days and offer us old school death metal. “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” is their third full length release and it takes us back to the glorious days of death metal. Crushing guitars with heavy riffs, blasting drums and severe growling vocals are the main ingredients of the album.

Coldblood is not one of the bands that promises new extraordinary sounds and take death metal one step further. They are here to honor the tradition of death metal with their passionate songs and they do it well. All songs here are short and this is very important as they don’t get boring or tiring for the listener. I wish we could have albums like this one more often and, even better if there were more people that would appreciate them!

Today marks the joint release by Russia’s Satanath Records and Metallic Media in the U.S. of the new album by the Brazilian horde Coldblood, and we are privileged to be the carriers of this vicious plague through our premiere of a full album stream.

Coldblood’s roots extend into the now-distant past, with their first demo appearing in 1992 — though their second did not see the light of day until 2000. Another demo followed in 2005, and then the band’s debut album Under the Blade I Die arrived in 2007. The intervening years since then have seen the release of a second album (2013’s Chronology of Satanic Events) and a handful of short releases. On this new album, Coldblood deliver 13 tracks, including three instrumental numbers that bring the album to a close.

There is no need to remind serious students of death metal about the powerful contributions of the Brazilian underground. Names like Krisiun, Rebaelliun, and Abhorrence (not to mention the more death-leaning records of Sarcófago and Sepultura) resonate and demand respect. Coldblood’s name may not yet be as widely known as those illustrious groups, but on this new album they more than hold their own within the rich tradition of Brazilian extremity.

The music is a blasphemous scourge of deep, grinding riffs that whirr like bone saws and jolt like pile-drivers cracking pavements like ice, propelled by a jet-fueled drum attack that keeps the energy in the red zone, even when the band depart from their usual high-speed barrages and deliver ghastly mid-paced soul-reapers. Coldblood join skull-clobbering grooves with an array of dismal, morbid melodies and a mix of noxious, gravel-throated roars and hair-raising shrieks. And throughout, the music generates an overarching aura of malign, infernal ferocity and sinister, supernatural peril

This is also high-grade headbang fuel, with plenty of bounding, bolting, darting technical flash to keep your adrenaline levels elevated — including bursts of searing, scintillating guitar solos that swoop and dive like demon bats on fire.

I have a lot of favorites on this voracious beast of an album; to mix my metaphors, there really aren’t any weak links in this chain of destruction. But if I had to recommend representative samples for you, I’d pick the one-two punch of “The Synchrony of The Cursed Star” and “Cocoon of Neophyte”. But seriously, don’t stop there. This is a hell of a hellish ride all the way through.

The album has its specific moments which are very catchy and keeps you hooked to the record. The sound is heavily influenced by the Death Metal of 90s era. Its admirable how the the band has injected diverse tones, in terms of conveying a bone crushing sound. The album is groovy and very tight with the gutturals pouring around which makes it more intense. Last but not the least, the sound the band carried out in the whole record is brilliantly done with old school elements perfectly synchronized with the way they wanted to carry out their emotions. If you are into old school Death metal, you have to go through this!

Laut Promozettel sind Coldblood Deathmetal Veteranen, ich allerdings kannte die Jungs bis jetzt nicht. Vielleicht hab ich den Namen schonmal irgendwo gelesen, aber Coldblood als Bandname ist ja auch nicht so sehr auffallend und einprägsam. Egal, "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil" ist jedenfalls ihr drittes Album welches auch in Brasilien aufgenommen und dann in Deutschland gemixt und gemastert wurde, das nenn ich mal Globalisierung.

Das Sample zu Beginn zeigt gleich wo es lang geht, "God is dead-Satan lives". Wäre das also auch geklärt. "Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil" als titelgebender Einstiegssong kann sich noch nicht richtig entscheiden ob er eher in die technische oder eher klassische Deathmetal Richtung geht, nebenbei ist er mir auch etwas zu lang geraten da die einzelnen Elemente zu lange bzw zu oft wiederholt werden. Unterbrochen von wüstem Gekeife ist eher Gesang der Marke Brüllwürfel zu hören, leider ist der wenig abwechslungsreich und über die gesamte Albumlänge zu eintönig.

Doch das fällt nicht allzu stark ins Gewicht da die Instrumentenfraktion das durch ihre Spielfreude wieder auffängt. Denn was die an Stimmungswechseln hervorzaubern ist schon gut anhörbar, immer wieder dreht sich der musikalische Wind in eine andere Richtung. Mal klassisch todesmetallisch, mal abgehackt industriell, mal düster drohend oder abgedreht aufheulend.

Grundsätzlich ist festzustellen das dieses Album gar nicht typisch südamerikanisch klingt sondern eher wie eine gesunde Mischung aus Skandinavien und (Nord)Amerika. Normalerweise tönen Sachen aus dem südamerikanischen Raum im Deathbereich ja eher düster, verhallt oder wie im Keller aufgenommen, gerne auch etwas songfeindlich und "normale" Hörgewohnheiten und Songarrangements ablehnend. Coldblood gehen aber wie gesagt sehr kraftvoll zu Werke, deutliche Riffläufe treffen auf unnachgibig treibendes Drumming.

Dem Werk sollte aber auch ein Hörer gegenübersitzen der aufgeschlossen ist, einfache Deathkost gibts nicht serviert. Dazu haben die Jungs viel zu viele Ideen die sie in ihre Songs einarbeiten und so ein direkt flüssiger Verlauf nicht zu Stande kommt, das Album braucht ein paar Durchläufe bis man es weitesgehend erfasst hat.

Ich rate als Einstieg zu Nummer 5, dem knackig kurzen "Cocoon Of Neophyte". Dann weiter mit "Demons Of Nox" oder "Tetragrammaton". Ganz am Ende darf aber "Metaphysical Evil" bleiben, ein siebeneinhalbminütiger Brocken der Aufmerksamkeit braucht, (positiv) am Nervenkostüm zerrt und die Gehirnwindungen neu anordnet. In den ersten Durchläufen ist das der am schwersten greifbare Song aufgrund seiner hibbeligen Struktur und den verschiedenen Elementen. Leider werden die zu sehr ausgeweitet und der Track dadurch auch etwas langatmig.

Zum Abschluss gibts als Bonus noch drei Albumsongs als rein instrumentale Versionen, diese funktionieren aber auch in ihrer gesangsfreien Art überraschend gut. Das zeigt das das Songwriting an sich als sehr gelungen zu bezeichnen ist, ich jedenfalls hab den Gesang nicht wirklich vermisst.

Fazit: Deathmetal aus Brasilien muss nicht immer typisch südamerikanisch klingen, hier gibts eine Wundertüte aus einem Land das scheinbar zwischen Skandinavien und Amerika liegt. Klanglich ist alles im grünen Bereich, kräftig modern kommen die Titel durch die Kanäle gebollert ohne übertechnisiert zu klingen. Kritikpunkt ist der eintönige Growlgesang, manchen Titel hätte eine Längenreduzierung auch gut gestanden, besonders Nummer 1 und Nummer 10 hätte das gut getan. Dazwischen gibts für aufgeschlossene Deathmetaller aber viel zu entdecken, auch wenn die Scheibe ein paar Durchläufe braucht.

Brazilian veterans Coldblood are back with a top-class album with a stench of 90s death metal.

Formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, Coldblood made a number of demos (including the legendary “Terror Stench” demo) before they released their debut album, “Under the Blade I Die”, in 2007. “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” is the band’s third full-length studio album and it is great if you’re into extreme music of the early 90s death metal kind.

The band has evolved musically over the years but has kept its dirty boots firmly rooted in the early 90s death metal sound. The new album offers us thirteen brutal and dark songs, including three instrumental tracks. The band is musically very competent and solid and its material is quite varied but mainly within the standard death metal comfort zone.

Diego Mercadante’s vocals are aggressively sinister and a great fit for the rock-solid musical foundation that the band’s songs are built upon. With a couple of talented guitarists in the band, it is no surprise that we get some fine and heavy riffing on this album.

Coldblood are already established on the Brazilian death metal scene and has also toured throughout South America. Now they’re ready for the world.

O tom, jak vypadá samotný rohatý se vedou odnepaměti spory. Těch představ, různých zobrazení i symbolů je tolik, že byste je do své vlastní smrti nedopočítali. Zajímavé je, jak se znázornění Satana měnilo v historii. Od prvních obrazů plných totálního zla se vládce pekel přetransformoval v chlapíka v obleku, který má hezkou tvář, je pro mnohé přitažlivý. Akorát po večerech otevírá brány do pekla. Nebo je dokonce hodně emancipovanou ženou, jakýmsi vampýrem, který díky svému krásnému tělu obloudí každého. Vždycky jsem záviděl malířům, že dokáží nakreslit své běsy, pořád oceňuji kapely, které umí pána podsvětí zhudebnit. Legendární brazilští death metalisté COLDBLOOD jsou těmi, kdo absolutně přesně ví, o čem je řeč.

Černotou, antikřesťanstvím a smrtí načichlý syrový death metal vznikl, v podobě v jaké ho hrají COLBLOOD, někdy v roce 1992. Od té doby jsou nám v pravidelných intervalech dodávána různá dema, splitka, singly a kompilace. Osobně jsem se s touhle smečkou setkal poprvé až v roce 2007 u jejich pekelného alba "Under the Blade I Die". Pro podobné, do tmy hozené rouhání jsem měl vždycky slabost. Psát znovu o jihoamerickém temperamentu, myslím nemá cenu. Je patrný v každém tónu. Hlavní devízou novinky "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil" je uvěřitelnost, určitá surovost a zároveň neučesanost, které jsou cítit po celou dobu tohohle záhrobního obřadu. Hudba je to hodně okultní, smrdutá a ďábla je možno spatřit každým okamžikem. Jestli stejně jako já rádi uléháte do rakve s kapelami jako jsou IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, KRISIUN, ABHORRENCE, IMPRECATION, BLASPHERIAN, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, MONSTROSITY, VADER, REBAELLIUN. Přidejte navíc pořádně hnilobnou porci blasfemie, rouhání. Výsledek je jasně patrný - jsou jimi COLDBLOOD.

Hudba, kterou Brazilané hrají, je přes dvacet let stará a lze v ní vystopovat kořeny všeho death metalového zla. Dlouze naléhavé úvody skladeb, mocné nástupy, hlas srovnatelný s výkřikem Belzebuba, temná atmosféra songů, okultní obřad u kterého se obětuje jedinému pravému Bohu. To všechno jsou COLDBLOOD. Tohle je death metal přesně v té podobě, ve které vám zkroutí celé tělo do nekonečné křeče, slabší jedinci se budou neustále modlit, křižovat a vyskáčou jim na rukách stigmata. Přiznám se, že podobné zobrazení pána pekel je mi "příjemné". Nahrávka je opravdu takovým uvěřitelným hudebním znázorněním zla. Vychází odněkud ze samotného nitra země. Je dávno a nikdy nevyřešenou okultní vraždou, obětováním, je smutná, temná i nakažlivá zároveň. Říká se, že slovo Boží se nemá brát nadarmo. Tak si to celé otočte jako kříž do opačné polohy. Myslím, že budete prokleti stejně jako já. Úžasná ďábelská deska!

sumarizace:

COLDBLOOD se povedlo zhudebnit tmu. Jejich novinka je hodně zlým albem. Zákeřným a ošklivým. Připomíná našeptávání od samotného Satana. Brazilská legenda jasně dokazuje, kdo je pánem temnoty. Kombinace všech špinavých extrémních stylů a jasný cíl dodává CD neskutečnou sílu. Nahrávka je tak spíše okultním obřadem, než jen pouhým zážitkem. Na povrch vylézají všechny zlé lidské vlastnosti. Jakoby se země dotýkaly černé mraky. COLDBLOOD nám přinášejí hodně zlou modlitbu. Myslím, že tentokrát budou duše zemřelých povolány na tento svět. Deska, která smrdí sírou!

This is fucking DEATH METAL!Coldblood play some pretty good death metal in the usual Brazilian vein riff wise but they’re different in one big aspect: They’ve toned down the blast-beats quite dramatically. Sure, they definitely have blast-beats and those are quite widely used. But in comparison to let’s say, Krisiun, who is quiet often a big and long blast-fest Coldblood use of them is quite limited.Musically, the listener is treated with hard-hitting, varied Death Metal and it is clear that these Brazilians are technically skilled as well as accomplished composers. The instruments are in perfect diabolical harmony, as if orchestrated by some machine, it is that tight. The guitars are down-tuned, yet melodic. Also, Slayeresque solos intersperse the already breakneck speed guitar sound. Triggered or not, the percussion on this album is simply superb. Without effort the drummer interchanges furious blast-beats with slower, double-base intermezzos (the emphasis is on blast-beats.). This off course is no groundbreaking stuff, but the ferocity and general variety of the drumming is simply awesome. The vocals are archetypal Death Metal vocals and the guttural, growling voice of the singer sounds like a tombstone being dragged around a concrete floor.The song material is rather strong throughout this whole disc, and most of the songs have something that catch your attention and make you wanna listen to it again. The tempo is pretty varied, although most songs are faster ones that undeniable will kick your nuts in. But the thing is that even if the tempo is high most of the time, more or less all of the songs have parts in them where the tempo is changed, and you get a small and much welcomed break in the vicious speed / blast-attack. It’s even a bit groovy at times! The best thing about this whole album is the sound on the drums though, I love every single bit of it. Top notch death metal production from the very beginning to the end.The lyrics deal with the triviality of organised religion, the hatred towards man, and darker emotions and ways of thinking in general.

Not quite perfect, but better than a lot of the supposedly excellent (read: overrated) death metal albums of recent years…

Death metal añejo de la mano de esta veterana banda brasileña. Ellos son los Coldblood, una banda formada en 1992 y que sufrió constantes parones a lo largo de su carrera. La banda se creó en el 92 y su primer parón fue en el 94. Retomarían su carrera en el 99 y aguantarían hasta el 2002, año en el que vuelven a dejarlo. Desde su vuelta en el 2005 ya no se han vuelto a bajar del carro.

coldblood 2Debutaron en 1992 con una demo que se titula Terror Stench, que os quiero recomendar a todos encarecidamente, porque suena al viejo Death metal crudo brasileiro de toda la vida, y los que aman el Death, saben que el Death brasileiro de los noventa son palabras mayores. En su discografía nos encontramos con tres demos, dos split, dos Single y un recopilatorio. En cuanto a largas duraciones éste es su tercer larga duración.

En su anterior trabajo, Chronology of Satanic Events, dejaron un buen sabor de boca, ellos mismos se pusieron el listón alto y tratarán de superarlo, para mi gusto no lo superan pero se quedan bien cerca. Coldblood es una banda recomendada para los que les guste bandas como: Krisium, Behemoth, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Abhorrence…etc.

Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil es el tema que le da el título al álbum, no tiene feeling, pero me gusta el trabajo de la batería, a base de blast beats y un riff machacón y obsesivo que acaba abriendo de forma sorprendente a un solo limpio, con melodía y bastante técnico que introduce una atmósfera completamente nueva al tema.

Tetragrammaton es old school en estado puro. Un death metal clásico que recuerda a un cruce entre Morbid Angel y los Deicide en sus tiempos de gloria, es decir, al inicio de sus carreras. Coldblood siempre es capaz de mezclar ese clasicismo con pequeñas pinceladas técnicas, sobre todo en la base rítmica, un matiz musical a tener muy en cuenta y que enriquece el trabajo.

Darkness Above the Firmament es uno de los temas más logrados del álbum. En cuanto a los riffs, nos encontramos pequeñas pinceladas de Groove, combinado con un bajo distorsionado y de seis cuerdas que acaba por apoderarse del tema y ser el protagonista absoluto, me gusta la labor de la batería, me recuerda a los Sepultura cuando mezclaban el Thrash/Death en sus primeros tiempos. Una de las características de los Coldblood es que siempre introducen el solo limpio para darle atmósfera a los temas.

The Synchrony of the Cursed Star es uno de los temas más logrados del álbum, valoro que los Coldblood quieran sonar diferentes y perseguir su propio estilo a base de mezclar Death metal clásico, con ligeros toques de Brutal y también de Death técnico, pero a ratos les falta algo de pegada, y es algo que encuentran en este corte. Cocoon of Neophyte sigue la estela del anterior tema, a base de un trabajo muy técnico en la base rítmica y una atmósfera oscura resuelven con nota el tema.

Además es una banda que sabe dotar a sus temas de versatilidad como en Demons of Nox, me gusta el groove de esta banda y su utilización, añaden más leña en la atmósfera de este trabajo, los cambios de ritmo siempre suelen ser bastante originales y el batería siempre protagonista.

Van cambiando de tempo, del Death Doom al Death acelerado pero siempre con ese toque atmosférico como en Sulphur. Saben cuando bajar el freno y aparcar el lado más creativo para sonar conservadores y enganchar a la gente con el old school, imaginaos un cruce entre Autopsy y los Cannibal Corpse, de eso trata Draco / Pneumatik Phenom.

La traca final del álbum es interesante con ritmos creativos y acelerados en Bury Universe, otro tema donde el batería se apodera del tema y logra cambiar de ritmo y añadir matices nuevos a la música de la banda, línea continuista para Bury Universe, combinación de blast beats con unos riffs lentos y atmosféricos. El álbum finaliza con una versión instrumental de tres temas de este trabajo. Muy bueno el álbum de los Coldblood, un trabajo que gana con las escuchas.

This is the third album from this Brazlian death metal band.

This is death metal with its roots in the 90s scene, both in style and production. In fact, the recording on Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil has a brutal charm all of its own. When combined with the music itself, this adds up to a pretty nice sounding album.

This may be of the old-school, but in other ways it has that distinct timeless feel common to all good death metal.

The songs rumble and blast out of the speakers, powered along by solid drumming and decent bass that underpins everything. The guitars peel off heavy riffs and punishing rhythms, effortlessly combining brutality and esoteric melodies.

Deep, ugly growls war with the occasional high pitched scream for supremacy of the airwaves. The growls win through sheer force of numbers, of course, but that doesn’t stop the bone-chilling screams from trying though.

This is death metal with character, played well and executed with confident superiority.

At this point in their careers it’s clear that Coldblood know exactly what they’re doing, and the songwriting on this album is at a standard that you would expect from such a veteran band.

From the very first vocal passage (a vintage movie soundbite) – God is dead, Satan lives! - there’s not a single doubt as to what you are about to let yourself in for… metal of the unholiest order indeed!

Coldblood play an uncompromising brand of metal boasting punishing riffs reminiscent of a mid-era Morbid Angel, with a brutal delivery courtesy of Krisium (also from Brazil) and (Florida based) Hate Eternal and, as if that wasn’t enough to whet your metal appetite, to top it all off a vocal delivery (via Diego Mercandante) in a similar style to Glen Benton of Deicide. The occasional well placed shriek only adds to my curiosity and overall appreciation.

Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil is an excellent collection of tracks executed with precision, diabolical flair and more melody (both blistering and a menacing slower tempo) than one might expect. Surprisingly this is only the third full length in a career spanning over twenty-five years (not unconventional or unexpected during which time there’s been several line-up changes) this experience shows throughout and although the style is not altogether new each of the tracks manages to hold the attention right up until the point when the listener when be happy to hit repeat again and again.

Favorite tracks; Demons of Nox on account of its homage characteristics to Morbid Angel of yesteryear and Bury the Universe which sports an Abysmal Dawn vibe and the opener - a great introduction to Coldblood.

Recommended for fans of diabolical metal that borders on the edge of the pit. Go ahead and take the plunge but remember the water and sunscreen, I hear it’s awfully bright and hot down around those parts!

Do you remember the day, when you played for the first time the Deicide's, Serpents of the Light album or Behemoth's Thelema.6 record? I remember that day very clearly. The uneasy feeling, filling my whole body, the experience of something true and unholy, something dangerous lyrically and musically. I remember my teenage body shaking after a listen to these records for the first time. I wasn't sure, if or when, I will have a chance to hear something as dangerous and dirty ever again. But Brazilian Coldblood, they've done it! Hats down, horns up to the blasphemous  trio from the Rio de Janeiro.

'God is Dead, Hail Satan Lives', this is how the new record Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil begins. The opening track is an instant punch in your face. From the first moments, you're exposed  to the purest underground death metal offering in the old school style. It's hard to talk or write about each song individually because there is no one bad song on this album. Musically my first impressions were that the guitars are simple and predictable but extremely heavy, like in the aforementioned Deicide album. To my surprise, Artur and Diego managed to pull so many tempo changes in each song that makes this record so different to any other death metal release in the last decade. There is no room for boredom. Markus' drum skills are very impressive too, his drumming abilities are a perfect match for the highly skilled guitar work presented on this album. The vocals on this album are very Glen Benton like, which works superbly well.

I'm fed up listening to the bands who try to replicate the early American death metal sound, without giving something extra. This is definitely not the case for the Coldblood guys. They've originally formed in 1992, after three demos, their first album has seen the daylight in 2007, followed by the unforgettable second LP, Chronology of Satanic Events in 2013.This type of death metal suits me and my ears perfectly.

I like the fact that they've stayed true to themselves and the scene. I like the fact that they're not politically correct and they like write anti-christian lyrics. I can relate to them, Brazilians and Polish metalheads are forced to live in the society ruled by the Catholic Church. From the moments you're born, you are expected to worship Jesus and his mother Mary. There is too many bands right know who sing about zombies, war and cosmic matters. Anti-religious bands are far more brutal and interesting, especially when they are coming from countries where religious presence is unavoidable.

If I had to point out a couple of songs from the Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil worth checking out before you purchase this album is the title opening track as well as, Darkness Above the Firmament, The Synchrony of the Cursed Star and Metaphysical Evil. These one certainly bear the trademark of Coldblood.

Since late 2013, I have examined acts, artists, and producers from five out of the six coverable continents (and seriously, if anyone knows of an original metal band from Antarctica, please let me know).  However, in all that time, I had yet to come across any bands from South America that were coming out with new music that piqued my interest enough to warrant an article...until now.  From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, come the death metal veterans Coldblood with their latest and greatest full-length, Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil (Satanath Records/Metallic Media); and praise be to The Dark Lord, I can finally plant a pin in a South American country on my map of regions that I have written about.

Following in the footsteps of their Brazilian predecessors Sextrash and Vulcano, Coldblood are fast, fiendish, and diabolically demonic.  Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil is the Rio death trio’s third full-length release that stands out from its modern contemporaries – not for its groundbreaking newness, no – but for its devoted commitment to staying old school.  Sharp, grinding rhythms and grating vocals perpetually hailing Satan intermingle with classically distorted guitars and barrel-bottom low end that all coalesce to bring forth ten new death metal offerings that are mercilessly bloodthirsty and savagely stunning.

Some of the more delectable cuts from Coldblood’s Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil include “Tetragrammaton”, the pointed “Darkness Above the Firmament”, and my personal favorites “Cocoon of Neophyte”, “Sulphur”, and “Metaphysical Evil”, a seven-plus minute sludge-fest of epic proportions.  In sum, Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil by Coldblood is yet another preposterously good album born of the Common Era, year two thousand and sixteen. Brazil has always had an awesome death metal scene among its well known heavy metal bands around the world, and Coldblood is one band, which should be added to this growing list.

Coldblood’s satanic-inspired old school death metal reminds of early, early Morbid Angel, Deicide and present day Immolation, as can be heard on their unholy “Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil”. There are three hair raising and goose bump creating instrumentals featured among the ten songs of gut wrenching death metal, which features plenty of interestingly crafted melodic leads, riffs, skull shattering drumming, and growl vocals that’ll bring you closer to the devil’s world of fire and brimstone. The instrumental version of “Metaphysical Evil” is equally destructive as the version with growls, in fact this version has more of a mindfucking, hypnotic vibe to it.

One can help but wonder, listening to Coldblood’s strange and evil-sounding death metal just conjures up images of the world’s end, yet the one witnessing this hell is still alive. How can this come to be? This is one of the questions that should come to mind from the hellish listening environment found here. This quartet is the epitome of all that is truly dark, morbid and sinister, as all of these emotions come to fruition on “Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil”.

These guys certainly have creative minds to come up with some of the most furious and earth evaporating old school death metal committed to the digital medium. Coldblood just don’t play death metal, they are the envisioned form of what quality death metal should be.

Coming from Brazil and playing old school death flags my attention straight away, it´s like one of the best combos out there. So when I checked out Coldblood´s new album ” INDESCRIBABLE PHYSIOGNOMY OF THE DEVIL” I expected nothing but total awesomeness. And let´s just say that I wasn’t the least disappointed.

I have many times wondered if the Brazilian DNA is made of pure metal and not organic material. The Godfather of Brazilian death metal Mr Max Cavalera and his brother Iggor should have their DNA frozen and preserved for ever, in case the Brazilian metal scenes would start to suck, they can just open the vault and bring it back to life again.

Good thing then that won’t be necessary, since you have bands like Coldblood marching in the Brazilian front of old school death metal. The march started back in the early 90´s and Coldblood always stayed true to their path. Having only released two full-lengths and some demos in two decades, they made sure that these releases were pure evil.

So it´s no surprise that Coldblood´s latest release “INDESCRIBABLE PHYSIOGNOMY OF THE DEVIL” is brutal as hell. Like a mutated fist that grew legs, running around screaming and beating the shit out of everyone. Like “The Thing” in Adams Family, on steroids and fucking pissed off. Neck-wrecking riffs, demonic solos, hammering drums and menacing vocals – this really is an assault on your mind. For all the 90´s death metal troops out there – drop everything you´re doing and get this album now.

Questo gruppo carioca è attivo da qualcosa come 24 anni! Certo, ci saranno state anche un paio di reunion successive ad altrettanti scioglimenti, ma se non sono dei veterani questi, vedete un po’ voi… Allora, i Coldblood fanno Death a tinte americane, veloce e preciso, giocando su due timbri di voce, un growl e un urlato che si alternano quasi a dialogare. La produzione, va detto, non è delle migliori considerando che questo tipo di musica dovrebbe avere dei suoni nitidissimi per essere apprezzato appieno… diciamo che siamo su livelli sufficienti ma nulla di più, specie considerando il fatto che il genere proposto è trito e ritrito. Quindi se si vuole stupire restano solo due opzioni: essere stra-ispirati o metterci personalità. E ahimè nel caso dei brasiliani siamo scarsetti su entrami i versanti. Mi spiego meglio: il lavoro è un buon disco del genere, ma niente di non già sentito. L’esecuzione è buona ma manca di mordente e non fa decollare mai del tutto l’album… Insomma, niente di nuovo all’orizzonte purtroppo…

Para quem não sabe, os Coldblood são uma das bandas clássicas do underground brasileiro, apesar de só terem lançado o seu álbum na sua terceira encarnação, em 2007. Com os pés bem assentes no death metal blasfemo, a banda tem com "Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil" o seu terceiro álbum de originais demonstrando um nível que não se fica nada atrás de bandas clássicas como Incantation, Deicide, Morbid Angel (aquela "Demons Of Nox" não engana ninguém) ou até os seus conterrâneos Krisiun. Talvez faltasse a esta produção um som mais esclarecido e potente. De qualquer forma, é uma boa introdução para um dos grandes nomes do death metal dos nosso irmãos do outro lado do oceano. Sendo uma reedição do álbum lançado no início do ano, temos três bónus, os três últimos temas com versões instrumentais.

Historia de larga data la del Death Metal y nuestro país hermano de Brasil. Sepultura, Holocausto, Mutilator, Krisiun y la lista sigue casi hasta el infinito. Fueron el primer, o uno de los primeros países, de Sudamérica en parir y exportar bandas de Metal Extremo al mundo entero, y hasta el día de hoy sigue sucediendo. En otras palabras, en este terreno, Brasil es Primer Mundo (como en el fútbol).

Hablé de una larga historia con el Death Metal y tiene mucho que ver con Coldblood, banda que con sus separaciones a cuestas, la viene peleando desde hace más de 20 años. Se formaron en el 92 y se separaron dos años después; vuelven en 1999 y se separan en 2002, para luego regresar en 2005 y ya sí mantenerse hasta el día de hoy. Para el que necesita más información, les cuento que aquí toca Markus Couttinho, baterista de los demoledores Grave Desecrator. Mas, Coldblood es Death Metal hecho y derecho, con poco vuelo pero mucha oscuridad.

Le hacen honor al nombre del grupo, logrando transmitir una frialdad perversa, maléfica, que se va colando en cada riff o ritmo, en cada entonación o sonido. Si bien la creatividad no es el fuerte del grupo (muchas canciones suenan algo chatas a mi parecer), la banda se las ingenia para amalgamar distintas influencias de vertientes bien definidas dentro del género que practican. Así, podemos encontrar influencias de Morbid Angel y Deicide (obvias referencias si hablamos de Death Metal satánico), como así también un sonido filoso pero pulido a la Krisiun, sumado a la pulcritud en las ejecuciones, detalle que trae a mi mente el nombre de Behemoth. O sea, está más que claro el estilo que practica el trío, van por una senda bien clara, pero sin dejar de lado la posibilidad de variar todo lo que el estilo y sus márgenes permitan.

Lo mejor del disco está al comienzo, con tracks como el que da nombre al disco (atentos a los ritmos sincopados que mete Markus), "The Synchrony of the Cursed Star" y "Tetragrammaton". Tras finalizar ese ataque inicial, la banda se sumerge en una cómoda, aunque feroz, postura, a través de la cual demuestran que los más de 20 años de trayectoria (con interrupciones) no han hecho mella en el enojo del grupo ni en su ideología, pero dejando entrever ciertas limitaciones en el aspecto compositivo.

Así y todo, "Indescribable Physiognomy..." es un álbum correcto, no hay fisuras, y aun sin tener una lista de canciones resaltable, el grupo de Río de Janeiro se las arregla para demostrar que la experiencia no la tienen en vano. Si algo le sobra a esta banda, y a éste disco puntualmente, es profesionalismo y seguridad en lo que hacen.

The album starts with a short quote from “Rosemary's Baby”: “God is dead - Satan lives” and it clearly states that you shouldn’t expect Christian gospels here but in your face Death Metal. I have to admit that I never heard of those Brazilians before although they exist since 1992 and released plenty of demos, EPs and three full-length albums. COLDBLOOD do not sound like a typical South American band and they also don’t sound like KRISIUN… I would describe their style as a mix of US and European and between technical and mid 90s Death Metal. This is neither old school nor new school, it’s simply Death Metal. They put a lot of ideas, great riffs and some cool leads into their compositions and deliver some interesting but still straight forward and brutal Death Metal. Unfortunately the vocals are not my cup of tea… that guy sounds like a Howler Monkey but besides that I find “Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil” a very enjoyable album. By the way, the production is rather cool, the album sounds massive and powerful. The last three songs are just instrumental versions of three album tracks… strange idea, but why not, especially because I don’t like that voice too much and so I enjoy those three songs more than the vocal versions.

Вот с компонентами этой угрозы мы и поразбираемся.

COLDBLOOD жгут напалмом оказывается уже очень давно — с 1992 года. Группа, как настоящий чешуйчатый змей замирала на определенные периоды, впадала в спячку, а потом вновь и вновь возвращалась к жизнедеятельности — глотала души малых сих и выпускала диски и прочее. Я знаю, о чем вы подумали. Кто же остался в группе с тех времен и есть ли таковые вообще? Есть. Драммер — который, представьте себе, отработал кроме того в уйме команд. Готовы? Grave Desecrator, Mysteriis, Diabolic Force (live), Into the Cave (live), Sodomizer (live), ex-Metano, ex-Nocturnal Worshipper, ex-Psychoneurosis, Darkaro, Possessonica, ex-Castifas, ex-Syren, ex-Hellkommander (live), ex-Unearthly, ex-Bodhisattva. Вот так — неслабо. Полноформатов за это время было издано три смертельных штуки, немного, но именно это и вызывает истинный интерес. Это вам не конвейер по выпуску однотипной продукции, здесь выходят в свет, чтобы ударила молния и пошел дым, вероятно с запахом серы. Ибо, надо сказать, что группировка с самого своего первого  дня существования на бразильской сцене определилась — ее конек антиклерикализм, да и пуще того — философские размышления о полезности подземных темных демонов не только в теоретической плоскости, но и может быть о их самом практическом применении для разных нешуточных неназываемых мероприятий, а может быть и ритуалов.

Вот-вот, слово ритуал ближе всего к тематике данного весьма взрывного дет-металлического альбома. И потому будьте уверены — структуры в мидтемпо, к тому же и заправленные длиннющими гвоздями вместо лазерной подсветки вам гарантированы.

13 траков не случайно ведь. А может и случайно, но более 50 минут звучания — не просто числа в записной книжке черного мага. Это дет-металлический ураган, сочиненный группой искушенных музыкантов. И звук они заказали себе соответственный —  в добротной студии в Рио де Жанейро, которая обеспечила прецизионный и плотный звук, а также отличный микс. Залюбуешься этой работой, огненные полосы  звука вылетают как из хорошо настроенного огнемета.

Формация с самым полнейшим правом использует олдскул, многоуважаемый фэнами стиля, рокочущий и монструозный. Для этого гитары летают здесь как ошалелые бестии, но все время — в пределах обзора слушателя, позволяя ему следить за всеми перипетиями струнной отработки, и это приятно льстит слушателю. Не обходится здесь как раз без тех огненных мастерских соляков, про которые уже упоминалось, они реально взвихряются столбом пламени над телом компо. Уверяю вас, не обратить на это внимание НЕВОЗМОЖНО.

Гитарныя атака часто объединяется в одну совершенно монолитную армию, которая только своим звуком и особливо маршевым темпом обратит в бегство супротивников как стиля, так и металла в целом. Нельзя не сказать про мелодику группы, она далеко от штамповки и потому, оставаясь внутри жанра, обращает на себя внимание. «Мetal never die” читаю на окровавленных стягах этой бешено несущейся конницы. Конечно же, ритм-секция здесь ударна со всех больших букв, но и еще и по левиафановски мощна, массивна — как гигантский асфальтовый каток. Саунд-инженер поработал конкретно, респект ему и уважуха еще раз.

Вокалист здесь излучал в двух мало соединенных ипостасях. Так бывает, чему мы были свидетелями не раз. Первая — совершенно адское совмещение хриплого вокала Бентона в раннем Деициде + оголтелый трешевый харш, вторая — высокий жесткий скрим, который местами напоминает вопль берсерка, добравшегося до своей беззащитной жертвы. Вздрогнешь порой… Вот такой он — бразильский хлоднокровный COLDBLOOD.

Оценка: много черепов.

Бразильский дэт метал — не шутка, об этом мы, собственно, давно знали, но когда знание подкреплено возможностью запросто приобрести и заценить реальный диск от Satanath Records, согласитесь, это совершенно другое дело. Тем более, что почта России работает достаточно четко, чтобы донести кусок металлической смерти, завернутый в упырчатую (от слова упырь. Класс! п…упырчатую) пленку от пункта А до пункта Б. Так оно и произошло.

O tom, jak vypadá samotný rohatý se vedou odnepaměti spory. Těch představ, různých zobrazení i symbolů je tolik, že byste je do své vlastní smrti nedopočítali. Zajímavé je, jak se znázornění Satana měnilo v historii. Od prvních obrazů plných totálního zla se vládce pekel přetransformoval v chlapíka v obleku, který má hezkou tvář, je pro mnohé přitažlivý. Akorát po večerech otevírá brány do pekla. Nebo je dokonce hodně emancipovanou ženou, jakýmsi vampýrem, který díky svému krásnému tělu obloudí každého. Vždycky jsem záviděl malířům, že dokáží nakreslit své běsy, pořád oceňuji kapely, které umí pána podsvětí zhudebnit. Legendární brazilští death metalisté COLDBLOOD jsou těmi, kdo absolutně přesně ví, o čem je řeč.

 

Černotou, antikřesťanstvím a smrtí načichlý syrový death metal vznikl, v podobě v jaké ho hrají COLBLOOD, někdy v roce 1992. Od té doby jsou nám v pravidelných intervalech dodávána různá dema, splitka, singly a kompilace. Osobně jsem se s touhle smečkou setkal poprvé až v roce 2007 u jejich pekelného alba "Under the Blade I Die". Pro podobné, do tmy hozené rouhání jsem měl vždycky slabost. Psát znovu o jihoamerickém temperamentu, myslím nemá cenu. Je patrný v každém tónu. Hlavní devízou novinky "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil" je uvěřitelnost, určitá surovost a zároveň neučesanost, které jsou cítit po celou dobu tohohle záhrobního obřadu. Hudba je to hodně okultní, smrdutá a ďábla je možno spatřit každým okamžikem. Jestli stejně jako já rádi uléháte do rakve s kapelami jako jsou IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, KRISIUN, ABHORRENCE, IMPRECATION, BLASPHERIAN, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, MONSTROSITY, VADER, REBAELLIUN. Přidejte navíc pořádně hnilobnou porci blasfemie, rouhání. Výsledek je jasně patrný - jsou jimi COLDBLOOD.

 

Hudba, kterou Brazilané hrají, je přes dvacet let stará a lze v ní vystopovat kořeny všeho death metalového zla. Dlouze naléhavé úvody skladeb, mocné nástupy, hlas srovnatelný s výkřikem Belzebuba, temná atmosféra songů, okultní obřad u kterého se obětuje jedinému pravému Bohu. To všechno jsou COLDBLOOD. Tohle je death metal přesně v té podobě, ve které vám zkroutí celé tělo do nekonečné křeče, slabší jedinci se budou neustále modlit, křižovat a vyskáčou jim na rukách stigmata. Přiznám se, že podobné zobrazení pána pekel je mi "příjemné". Nahrávka je opravdu takovým uvěřitelným hudebním znázorněním zla. Vychází odněkud ze samotného nitra země. Je dávno a nikdy nevyřešenou okultní vraždou, obětováním, je smutná, temná i nakažlivá zároveň. Říká se, že slovo Boží se nemá brát nadarmo. Tak si to celé otočte jako kříž do opačné polohy. Myslím, že budete prokleti stejně jako já. Úžasná ďábelská deska!

 

COLDBLOOD se povedlo zhudebnit tmu. Jejich novinka je hodně zlým albem. Zákeřným a ošklivým. Připomíná našeptávání od samotného Satana. Brazilská legenda jasně dokazuje, kdo je pánem temnoty. Kombinace všech špinavých extrémních stylů a jasný cíl dodává CD neskutečnou sílu. Nahrávka je tak spíše okultním obřadem, než jen pouhým zážitkem. Na povrch vylézají všechny zlé lidské vlastnosti. Jakoby se země dotýkaly černé mraky. COLDBLOOD nám přinášejí hodně zlou modlitbu. Myslím, že tentokrát budou duše zemřelých povolány na tento svět. Deska, která smrdí sírou!

Se você gostou do álbum anterior dos caras, Chronology of Satanic Events, terá em Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil um dos seus álbuns favoritos de Death/Black Metal. Pois sem exagerar, o quarteto hoje formado por Diego Mercadante (voz e guitarra), Artur Círio (guitarra), Vitor Esteves (baixo) e Markus Coutinho (bateria) ao mesmo tempo que resgatam referências como Slayer, Celtic Frost, Death e Black Sabbath, mas sem soar como uma cópia das bandas citadas.

 

Isso ocorre por estarmos diante de uma banda que faz música por paixão e não por negócio, sentimos esse ingrediente em cada nota executada, cada linha vocal vociferada e na aura maligna que é presente nas treze faixas do trabalho, que deve ser presença garantida na listinha de melhores do ano dessa vertente musical.

 

Os vocais agonizantes e desesperados formam um contraste interessante com o instrumental crú e trabalhado, o que gera músicas que podem até ser feitas para bangear, mas principalmente para serem ouvidas por completo, tamanha intensidade, como Sulfur e a faixa que nomeia o disco. Outros destaques ficam por conta Bury the Universe, cujo final tem passagens mais intimistas que beiram o flamenco. Nuances atmosféricas também são sentidas durante quase todas as canções.

 

Se você curtiu o instrumental vai curtir os bônus do disquinho, que são versões sem vocal de três faixas do álbum.

 

Outro aspecto que deixa o trabalho marcante fica por conta dos solos melódicos, chegando próximo ao Metal Tradicional e alguns riffs mais arrastados, que se Tony Iommi pudesse ouvir, creio que diria: "Quatro décadas se passaram e nossa música ainda está presente nas bandas mais novas".

 

Não se pode deixar de citar as outras etapas do trabalho. O acabamento em digipack e uma das melhores capas feitas pelo artista Rafael Tavares (Chaos Synopsis) e as etapas de gravação, mixagem e masterização. Estas últimas a cargo do baterista do Destroyer 666, Mersus.

Vinte e cinco anos de história dedicados ao Death Metal, vários lançamento e dentre eles três full álbuns. Agora temos novamente o imenso prazer de sorver a sonoridade extrema que é tão característica desta excelente banda carioca, “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” nos mostra o Coldblood ainda mais impiedoso.

 

Refiro-me à sonoridade estar mais “carregada”, tipo as musicas são mais diretas sem perder a singular marca da banda. Dificil de transpor para o texto o que ouvi, sei que a banda consegue ser ainda mais letal, visceral que dantes. Logo na primeira música do álbum, justamente a que leva o título, fui arrebatado por esta áurea intensa de maior agressividade. E ouvindo o track list como todo me rendi as evidências.

 

A Coldblood merece o meu e o seu respeito; orgulha-nos como headbangers trazendo um trabalho primoroso como este. Death Metal intenso, para bater cabeça, para contemplar, para ficar boquiaberto com tamanha competência. Produção de primeira seja na arte gráfica (digipack para embalar) quanto na parte sonora – nada mais justo.

 

Sinceramente seria injustiça da minha parte, minha opinião, destacar uma faixa apenas deste magnífico álbum; contudo “Sulphur” me cativou. Mas não pense que as nove restantes não estejam no mesmo nível – pelo contrário. Outro fator interessante é que temos três das musicas do track list repetidas como bônus! Repetidas?

 

Sim! Mas somente a parte instrumental e posso te dizer que bela sacada da banda, excelente perceber o quanto é importante ter voz e instrumentos em consonância para que as músicas tem o resultado que precisam ter. Além do mais eu gostei de ouvir somente os instrumentos mandando ver, as musicas “repetidas” foram: “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil”, “Draco/Pneumatik Phenom” e “Metaphysical Evil”. Circola sangue freddo nelle vene di questo trio brasiliano, proveniente da Rio De Janeiro, sangue che va ad alimentare un’attitudine fortemente anticristiana ed un sound che richiama il death metal old school ispirata all’area statunitense.

 

Un sound oscuro nato nella soleggiata Rio nel lontano 1992, da quando i primi demo cominciarono a circolare come virus demoniaci nell’underground estremo verdeoro.

I Coldblood licenziano il loro terzo album dopo una serie di lavori minori e due full length, Under the Blade I Die del 2007 e Chronology of Satanic Events uscito tre anni fa.

Che in Brasile il metal abbia trovato terreno fertile è risaputo e nel metal estremo più che mai, il successo dei Sepultura prima e di altre devastanti realtà, in seguito, ha creato molto interesse verso scena ed i suoi adepti, così non è certamente sacrilego parlare dei Coldblood come di una band figlia di uno dei movimenti più importanti del metal estremo mondiale.

Anche se con alcune pause temporali, il gruppo è da più di vent’anni che si aggira per gli anfratti bui del metal underground, con il suo devastante death sempre di buona qualità e Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil conferma l’assoluta attitudine maligna di una proposta che accompagna il pesantissimo sound in stile Morbid Angel e Deicide del nuovo millennio.

Tre musicisti dalla provata esperienza, militanti in una marea di gruppi della scena, non possono che creare musica estrema di grande impatto, valorizzata da tanto mestiere e morbose atmosfere evil di cui l’album è pregno, perciò lasciate ogni speranza voi che entrate nel mondo dei Coldblood e fatevi travolgere dalle note, colanti lava sanguinolenta, della title track, di The Synchrony of the Cursed Star e della fenomenale Metaphysical Evil.

Coldblood are a death metal band that formed in 1992 with influences from well know bands from the 80s and 90s.

The anti – Christian group have quite the discography including multiple EP’s and full albums but have also been on a bunch of breaks, but not to worry now that they’re back with a new effort they have titled “Indescribable physiognomy of the devil”.

The first track of 13 on the album has the same name as the album, which I’ve never really got the point of. Anyway the album starts off with some old guy and a girl shouting “God is dead, Satan lives” and then the song drops straight into a bunch of doomy guitar chords and almost mechanical sounding drumming. After about a minute we get a drumroll before the front man comes in accompanied by the same guitar and drum track from earlier. The front man is pretty much just CorpseGrinder with more high pitched screaming in places.

Not really a massive fan of these bands that are just all pretty much just replicas of each other, but non the less and alright death metal album”

Em determinado momento, algumas bandas se vêem diante de uma tarefa ingrata: Como gravar o próximo disco sendo que o anterior foi uma verdadeira obra-prima? Muitas dessas bandas fracassam e lançam álbuns inferiores, mas este não foi o caso da veterana COLDBLOOD.

 

Três anos após o fantástico "Chronology of Satanic Events" eis que os cariocas apresentam "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil".

 

E este consegue ser ainda mais fantástico que o anterior!

O play abre com "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil" e a faixa-título é uma daquelas que já nasceram clássicas. Impressionante a evolução da banda do disco anterior para este. E olha que já são quase 25 anos de Death Metal!

Impossível ouvir esta faixa apenas uma vez!

 

"Tetragrammaton" e "Darkness Above the Firmament", não à toa alguns dos melhores momentos do disco, mostram o poder de fogo desta formação, com Diego Mercadante (guitarras e voz), Artur Cirio (guitarras), Vitor Esteves (baixo) e o "monstro" Markus Couttinho (bateria).

 

Depois daqui temos uma verdadeira aula de Death Metal. Faixas como "The Synchrony of the Cursed Star", "Cocoon of Neophyte" e "Demons of Nox" (pra ficar apenas em três exemplos) mostram uma banda afiada, que entende muito bem quando o assunto é Metal Extremo. Impressionante a coesão dos membros na construção de riffs marcantes, com uma cozinha que prova ser uma das mais talentosas do país.

 

A coisa fica séria em "Sulphur". Nunca um título foi tão propício a uma faixa, já que esta exala enxofre em seus pouco menos de 3 minutos de intensa brutalidade. O inferno regozija a cada riff maldito dessa faixa (e do disco, como um todo).

 

Seja nas faixas mais rápidas ou até mesmo nas cadenciadas, é inegável a qualidade técnica da COLDBLOOD quando o assunto é Death Metal. Diferente de muitas bandas que lançam discos cada vez mais repetitivos e sem inspiração, temos aqui uma obra obrigatória para qualquer um que se julga um amante do Metal da Morte.

 

Parabéns à Distro Rock, Mutilation Productions e Feed Bizarre por acreditarem em uma das mais tradicionais bandas brasileiras e oferecer ao Deahbanger uma obra-prima do underground nacional.

Tercer disco de los brasileños de Coldblood, lo hacen esta vez en una producción conjunta del label ruso Satanah (Rusia) Metallic Media (U.S.A), una modalidad algo mas frecuente ahora que en conjunción unen fuerzas y editan para abaratar costos y tener un mercado mas amplio de captar. Bien en primer lugar, Coldblood no mantienen una linea definida de los que nos tienen acostumbrados las agrupaciones de ese país, en anteriores teníamos a unos amazónicos buscando su mejor sonido, con álbumes bastante decentes y por que no, bastantes interesantes, en "Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil", la técnica es envidiable, tenemos a una agrupación bastante madura, donde todo esta bien engranado y en su justo lugar, por momentos se despeñan temas que pueden pasar por fríos, pero nada mas lejos de la verdad, solo la destreza y las composiciones que a pesar de ser lineales tienen un firme proposito, ellos no abusan en blast beats, ni las distorciones se pasan de revoluciones, la pasividad demoniaca parece apoderarse en su conjunto de esta obra, menos veloz, pero mas oscura y más pensada que otras veces, con cambios muy inteligentes, una producción nitida, clara con un preciso peso, uniformente bien confinado, death metal con ciertos aires de black, ellos no confunden su accionar que es siempre homogéneo, no espontáneo, pero si estable y claro, de escoger algún tema en particular es dificil, todas las piezas engranan y ninguna parece estar de sobras, sin embargo tracks como "cocoon of neophyte", la que da titulo al cd "Indescribable Physionogmy Of The Devil", podrían de alguna manera por sobre el resto o simplemente quedarse el mayor tiempo posible en tu psiquis, buen disco para disfrutar de buen metal bien pensado, equilibrado, endiablado y que no desentona en ningún momento.

The Brazilian trio ColdBlood is back with another record. Founded back in 1992 with a small hiatus in between, the band keeps spreading its important dark message. Drummer Markus however is also very active as drummer in a great deal of other projects, as he has always been, on and off. The same sort of can be said about the other members. With their effort ‘Chronology Of Satanic Events ’they left a fairly okay, but not that lasting impression. And I am afraid they repeat that again this time. The sound is too insufficient to impress. This would not have impressed 25 years ago, let alone now. And the same goes for the music, the vocals and it is rare there are moment I find the willingness to forgive them. You can hear great ideas and true metal spirit when you pay attention, but it demands a lot of attention. And fans these days, including me, might be a little too spoiled to go through the effort. I like their power and their spirit a lot, though. I just wish it was presented a few steps higher a level.

Новый альбом бразильцев COLDBLOOD я ухватил на промо с особой радостью, которая будет понятна всем, кто заслушивался старым американским дэт-металом. COLDBLOOD — не кучка подражателей; группа очень старая, основанная в 1992-ом году. Правда, общий период её активности за прошедшее время составляет «всего» 17 лет, так как группа несколько раз самораспускалась. Ничего удивительного в этом нет: участники COLDBLOOD играли \ играют в GRAVE DESECRATOR и MYSTERIIS. Но 3 полноформатных альбома записать успели. Первый как-то не зашёл слушателям, но второй уже сумел произвести впечатление, причём неслабое — он был издан как в родной Бразилии, так и в Штатах, с дистрибьюцией в Европу. Новинка пошла ещё дальше — Бразилия, Штаты, Европа, а также крутейшее лимитированное издание в Китае! И это хорошо, ведь «Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil» заслуживает внимания.

 

Что тут ходить вокруг да около — это почти тот самый старый дэт-метал, который вы искали. Образца не 90-92, но где-то года 94-97. Именно тогда вышли знаковые альбомы, на которые во многом ориентируется бразильская машина смерти. «In Cold Blood» и «Eternal» MALEVOLENT CREATION, «Once Upon The Cross» DEICIDE, «Covenant» MORBID ANGEL… Инструментально «Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil» больше всего похож на Морбидов, так как в нём много риффов с характерным почерком, и немало «тягучести», коей себе почти не позволяли DEICIDE и MC. От этих групп бразильцы также частично переняли манеру игры, но в большей степени — стиль пения. Вокалист COLDBLOOD использует достаточно редкий из-за высокой сложности рык на уровне диафрагмы, которым прославился Глен Бентон. Его же использовал Джейсон Блаковиц на упомянутых альбомах MALEVOLENT CREATION. Таким же образом поёт вокалист малоизвестной греческой банды IN UTERO CANNIBALISM… и, собственно, это всё, что я могу вспомнить. Подобный рёв требует особых умений, длительных тренировок, и даже в какой-то мере физической уникальности, однако результат неизменно получается сокрушительным! Все прорехи в музыке COLDBLOOD — а они, надо признать, имеются — покрываются способностями лужёной глотки Диего Меркаданте.

 

Недостатки «Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil» касаются, в основном, качества записи. Звук альбома слишком вязкий и мутный, многие риффы плохо читаются в нём. Ударные тоже звучат скверно, особенно тарелки. Композиционная часть кое-где проседает, но, в целом, уровень мастерства бразильцев очень высок. Немалая часть их риффов могла бы стать классикой дэт-метала, появись они лет на 20-25 раньше. Зацените «Tetragrammaton», «Metaphysical Evil», «Draco / Pneumatik Phenom». Да, это в большой степени заслуга MORBID ANGEL, но переосмыслять культ тоже надо умеючи. Это вам не BEHEMOTH с их убогой долбёжкой. Зато бразильцам недостаёт гитарных соло. Вроде ж играть умеют — слушайте заглавную композицию. Почему не сочинить побольше таких атмосферных штук — загадка.

 

В общем, «Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil» я искренне рекомендую тем, кто скучает по дэт-металу старой закалки. Несмотря на некоторые огрехи, это не подделка и не ролевая игра, а искренний сатанинский метал смерти. Издание от Satanath Records содержит стандартный 12-страничный буклет с таким же стандартным внутренним оформлением — ничего особенного, но аккуратно и симпатично. А вот обложка реально крута. Рисовал её бразильский художник Рафаэль Таварес, работавший также с OCULTAN, AZAGHAL, BLOOD RED THRONE, QUEIRON. Такую и на винил не грех разместить.

Diesen gibt es bei Coldblood auf die Ohren und ist ihren Landsleuten von Krisiunund Rebaelliungar nicht mal so unähnlich. Bei rasendem Tempo und tiefen Growls geben sich Coldblood sowohl technisch versiert als auch hasserfüllt und brutal; alles bei präzisem Zusammenspiel und fetter, druckvoller Produktion. Wer auf angeschwärzten Death Metal von Bands wie Morbid Angel, Deicide, Immolation oder eben Krisiun steht, bekommt hier einen kleinen Geheimtipp serviert.

Brasil fue y es la primera potencia latinoamericana en cuestión de metal. Los nombres los conocemos todos, y su actualidad no hace más que reafirmar que en el futuro esto no cambiará. Coldblood, con casi 25 años de formados y una carrera un tanto errática, vuelven al ruedo para tratar de hacerse un lugar en la escena de su país y a juzgar por lo demostrado en este álbum, también les interesa la escena mundial.

Lo de este cuarteto oriundo de Rio de Janeiro es liso y llano death metal. El viejo death metal brasilero de toda la vida, todos sabemos de qué hablamos. Citar a Krisiun como una referente más conocido no sería descabellado, pero Coldblood se las ingenia para no sonar tan similares, ya que  hay una mayor preocupación por el groove y no tanto por la brutalidad como la banda de los hermanos Camargo.

Coldblood está lista para dar el gran salto, veremos que les depara el destino.

COLDBLOOD gives me a vampyric vibe. And the album title doesn’t do anything to contradict that either. This will in no way be a warm and fuzzy melodeath album. And being from Brazil there is that too to this band. This is death metal with a slight tech twist. Not as tech jazzy as for example Atheist or Pestilence but more in the Morbid Angel school of things death metal. And with a vocalist from the deepest rain forest that does his best to sound like a dude possessed this turned out to be a pretty darn cool record.

Ten months ago we had the pleasure of premiering a full stream of Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil, the most recent album by the Brazilian death metal band Coldblood. And today we get to bring you a video for the seventh track from that album, a chilling blast of hellfire appropriately named “Sulphur“.

 

The release of  a video like this one serves several purposes, one of which is to turn people on to an album they might have missed — and Indescribable Physiognomy is one that shouldn’t be missed if you’re a fan of barbaric, pulse-pounding death metal.

 

As we explained when we premiered the album, it’s a blasphemous scourge of deep, grinding riffs that whir like bone saws and jolt like pile-drivers cracking pavements as if they were ice, propelled by a jet-fueled drum attack that keeps the energy in the red zone, even when the band depart from their usual high-speed barrages and deliver ghastly mid-paced soul-reapers.

 

Coldblood join skull-clobbering grooves with an array of dismal, morbid melodies and a mix of noxious, gravel-throated roars and hair-raising shrieks. And throughout, the music generates an overarching aura of malign, infernal ferocity and sinister, supernatural peril

 

This is also high-grade headbang fuel, with plenty of bounding, bolting, darting technical flash to keep your adrenaline levels elevated — including bursts of searing, scintillating guitar solos that swoop and dive like demon bats on fire.

 

 

 

“Sulphur” is a particularly grim example of what the album has to offer, a dose of cold poison that hammers heartlessly and seethes in bursts of predatory chaos.

 

The video you’re about to see was produced by CS Music Videos, with footage recorded at Iguaçu New Cemetery and Old Cemetery of the Slaves in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The band’s vocalist/guitarist Diego Mercandante gave us these comments about the song and the video:

 

“Sulphur” is a song with a simple structure and a very strong physical extra energy, a lyrical delirium that describes the scenery of the location as well. As the lyrics say, we literally went to the confines of hell to make this shooting! The illustrative clip is a neophyte being attracted by a black Sendero, bearer of all the trans-cultural knowledge of the black pantheon. An endless saga without a return path begins… “

I knew an act from Brazil called ColdBlood, being active during the first half of the Nineties. And because this release (which was send to me, the kind way, by my dear colleague Aleksey K. from e.g. the Abigorum project and Satanath Records), did deal with a Rio De Janeiro based act with the very same name, I was kind of wondering: is this the very same band? So, here I seemed to suffer from a period of total amnesia. Apparently, indeed it is the very same ColdBlood, but… they did quite some new things in the meantime too. Deep investigation taught me that these Brazilian sweethearts did record and release two full lengths, some EP’s / singles, and a couple of splits (amongst which a compilation of older material in collaboration with Luvart, whom I’m going to write a chronicle in the near future for their latest release, done via the Brazilian division of Drakkar Productions – but that’s nothing but additional information). And apparently I did write a review for the last album, Chronology Of Satanic Events (posted on November 21st 2014). So, have I been on another planet for a while? Is there a mental hiatus within my existence? Okay, I am quite severe to myself, and I understand that I cannot follow everything – yet still…

 

But to make it all up, I will focus -with attention and concentration- on the latest full length of this quartet (still with original members Vitor and Markus). The easy-named third album Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil (damn, what an idea to call your new recording like this) was initially released via the band’s main label Distro Rock Records in April 2016. However, the unholy marriage in between Satanath Records and Metallic Media (the latter released that album I did review as well, for example) once again proves to be a great one, for they are re-releasing the stuff on a worldwide scale. The material was written by drummer Markus Couttinho and vocalist / guitarist Diego Mercadante (who takes care of the lyrical side as well, by the way), and everything was recorded in their home town Rio De Janeiro, at the Estúdio AM in June and July 2015 with producer Fernando Campos (think: Unearthly, Tellus Terror, Empürios etc.). Both other members involved with this recording, for your information, are bassist Vitor Esteves (who left just after the recording sessions???) and lead guitar player Artur Círio, who was in e.g. Statik Majik and Vulgar before.

 

Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil is a ten-track album, but there are three instrumental bonus tracks included too. The whole album, including those extra pieces, lasts for fifty-two minutes, and comes with a 12-page booklet, and this in an edition of 500 copies (the original release via Distro Rock Records was less ‘limited’). And as from the very first seconds of the album (‘God is dead!’, you’ll notice soon…) you will understand that ColdBlood are not about to take prisoners – death to you all, that’s their message!

 

The material on Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil is of the purest repulsive and sickening American Old School-styled kind (kind? Not kind at all!), with all ingredients that characterise the scene for almost three decades. Diego’s grunts, for example, are so deep, so brutal, so hateful, and for sure they belong to the better vocals within the scene. Fine, within that vein, is the addition of some higher-pitched screams too, the Black / Thrash-way. I just think it’s a shame that you do not always clearly understand the poetry that floats out of this guy’s throat. I had to take the lyrics to see what Diego is ‘singing’ about. Okay, everyone knows that love and peace aren’t exactly subjects to expect. But still. FYI: demonism, blasphemy and diabolism, but I can imagine this information is otiose…

 

Composition-wise, there is that great balance in between melody and rhythmic heaviness. As it needs to be, the drums are of the devastating kind. The double bass drums bulldozer (it’s a verb as from now on: ‘to bulldozer’…) whole of the time, with several monumental outbursts, especially within the faster, semi-blasting moments. But when playing mid-tempo, those drums decelerate as well, without losing the initial brutality. The riffing too comes with a timeless execution, being supportive to the melody from time to time, then again strengthening the colossal violence behind the concept. And of course, there is no lack of fierce and fiery guitar soloing either. Short guitar solo attacks do rape the listener’s eardrums, but that to isn’t a coincidence.

 

Seriously, this is an inevitable soundtrack to pay tribute to the most ferocious scenes from both North and South America anno late Eighties / Nineties / 2000’s. Everything that reeks of Abhorrence, Krisiun or Rebaelliun, to stay within these guys’ home country, or in the vein of Incantation, Morbid Angel or Deicide, has been reinterpreted in one way or another. Okay, it means that this album lacks of originality, but I don’t give a f*** about the urge to be renewing. This is just decently performed Death Metal as it might typify the essence of the Old School.

 

A word about the sound: massive! No further comment…

 

I won’t dwell on the three bonus tracks either. It’s three times a composition taken from the album, just without the vocals, so the meaning behind it is strange to me. They’re even not a rehearsal version, taken from a pre-recording or demonstrational session, for example. Great material indeed, but unnecessary, I think.

Coldblood was formed in 1992, but it hasn't been easy for them. The band split up three times during their history. Despite their difficulties, they have always come back (since their last formation in 2005, they have been around for 10 years nonstop). Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil is the title of their third album. Musically, Coldblood clearly swear in the name of extreme Metal traditions à la Morbid Angel, Deicide, and Vader. Downright heavy, crispy, ruthless, and unholy Death Metal is what they like to churn out, constantly keeping their performance über-heavy on the darker side of the spectrum and offering a steady roller-coaster ride for listeners. They are good at what they do, doing just what they are supposed to do, and it's really enough. Songs on Indescribable... are equally good, none standing out above others. The vocals of Diego Mercadante sound deceptively like Glen Benton's, which I like a lot.

 

However, I am not sure about whether the three instrumental bonus tracks at the end of this record serve their purpose that well because the album's length along with these bonuses crosses rhw 50-minute mark. I would have preferred the album without them, making it sound more coherent and just optimal.

«Death metal dal 1992» ci comunica il retro copertina di "Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil", quarto disco dei brasiliani Coldblood. Quella che non ci viene raccontata è una storia costellata di cambi di formazione e di arresti di attività, oltre che di difficoltà nel produrre i propri lavori, al punto tale che se la prima demo risale a tutti gli effetti al '92, il debutto ufficiale avviene solo nel 2007 con "Under The Blade I Die". Oggi invece teniamo tra le mani il loro quarto album in otto anni (se si escludono le pubblicazioni minori) e davanti all'odissea passata dai Brasiliani, ora ridotti a duo, non si può negare una certa conoscenza nel plasmare la materia.

 

Sin dalla prima traccia, che porta il titolo dell'album stesso, la band ci spara addosso del death metal empio, che guarda con ammirazione alle realtà più sacrileghe provenienti dagli Stati Uniti, fatto di ritmiche piene di groove che scandiscono riff pesanti e violenti, ma sono gli assoli che rubano la scena quando entrano in gioco. Quasi ogni brano adotta una soluzione divertente che riesce a distinguerlo dagli altri e farsi un po' ricordare, pur non variando mai le influenze. I riempitivi senza dubbio ci sono, specie se si parla di un disco del genere che supera i cinquanta minuti, però questi ultimi non sono poi così dannosi.

 

I problemi reali dei Coldblood alle mie orecchie però sono due. Il primo è la voce, un growl che non riesce proprio a convincere per la mancanza di potenza; credo se ne sia accorta la band stessa, avendo riproposto tre brani in versione strumentale in fondo alla scaletta, di cui in caso contrario non mi saprei spiegare la presenza. L'altro problema è che alcune tracce avrebbero meritato di essere sviluppate meglio; i brani in scaletta sono piuttosto corti, solo il primo e l'ultimo ("Metaphysical Evil") superano i quattro minuti, molto spesso non si arriva nemmeno a tre. Tra questi c'è "Sulphur" che contiene buone idee, eppure ritengo che una maggiore evoluzione della struttura, con qualche passaggoa in più, avrebbe fatto fare un salto di qualità a questo e ad altri brani nella stessa condizione ("Cocoon Of Neophyte" e "The Synchrony Of The Cursed Star" per esempio).

 

Detto ciò, sono convinto che "Indescribable Physiognomy Of The Devil" sia un disco piacevole, intaccato dai suoi difetti, ma che grazie ai buoni risultati in termini di violenza e pesantezza riesce a riequilibrarsi e a farsi ascoltare. Lontanissimi dall'essere imprescindibili, i Coldblood potrebbero essere adaatti a chi cerca furia anticristiana nel death metal, con l'unica pretesa che venga eseguito con potenza.

O cenário Metal do Brasil já possui bandas lendárias, uma vez que a consolidação, ocorrida ainda na primeira metade dos anos 80, permitiu a proliferação de alguns nomes que continuam na atividade, ou que pararam e depois retomaram as atividades. E este é um fator visto em todos os estados do país. O Rio de Janeiro, famoso por sua diversidade cultural, um dos nomes mais importantes do cenário extremo, é a terra natal do COLDBLOOD, quarteto de Death Metal que mostra constante evolução musical de um disco para o outro, mas sem perder sua essência.

 

Então, o que podemos esperar de “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil”, seu mais recente álbum?

 

Se em “Under the Blade I Die” a banda mostrou um lado influenciado pelo Death Metal da Flórida e em “Chronology of Satanic Events” já se percebia uma evolução técnica densa e até mais musical, em “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” se percebe que o quarteto está com uma musicalidade densa, com uma pegada que ainda tem sua personalidade calcada no Death Metal do início dos anos 90, mas com uma forte carga do Black Metal desta mesma época, sem desvirtuar sua identidade. Ou seja, mais uma vez, a banda dá espaço à evolução, mas me permitam o uso de um velho chavão para ilustrar o que quero dizer de forma mais palatável a todos: quem gosta, vai continuar gostando; quem não gostava (ou não conhecia), melhor dar uma chance ao grupo.

 

A produção é assinada por Fernando Campos, e a mixagem e masterização foram feitas na Alemanha, por Mersus (baterista do ZARATHUSTRA). Assim como no antecessor, “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” busca aliar uma produção suja e agressiva com qualidade sonora em que se possa compreender o que o grupo está tocando. E isso eles conseguiram, soando ríspido, com bons timbres instrumentais e muito peso.

 

A capa é de Rafael Tavares, que deixou claro o que o grupo trata nas letras, ao mesmo tempo em que dá a clara ideia do que o ouvinte encontrará na música que irá ouvir.

 

Insano, com tempos bem feitos, arranjos bem pensados e uma dinâmica ótima entre instrumental e as partes vocais, esse disco é apaixonante em todos os sentidos, pois estamos lidando com um grupo de muitos anos e calos de experiência. E isso sem mencionar a presença de Alan Silva fazendo alguns vocais em“Draco/Pneumatik Phenom”, ou seja, a formação original mais uma vez estava junta em um mesmo CD.

 

O disco é bem homogêneo, nivelado por cima, com muita energia e agressividade. Mas por mera referência ao leitor, destacam-se a brutal e obscura “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” e sua carga pesada de guitarras azedas; a opressiva e bem trabalhada “Tetragrammaton”, onde baixo e bateria estão de primeira, criando uma base rítmica intensa e bem trabalhada (e é cheia de mudanças de andamento); a mais direta ao ponto “Darkness Above the Firmament” (que mostra alguns arranjos de guitarras ótimos); a explosão de agressividade intensa em “Cocoon of Neophyte”; o cortejo fúnebre de riffs abusivamente distorcidos e envolventes de “Demons of Nox”, a arrastada e cativante “Sulphur” (faixa do vídeo de divulgação, onde os vocais mostram-se ótimos, indo dos timbres guturais mais intensos aos rasgados sem nenhum problema); a com um jeitão um pouco mais raiz em “Draco/Pneumatik Phenom” (reparem nos duetos de guitarras esbanjando melodias); e a longa e arrastada “Metaphysical Evil”, onde a banda exibe bastante seu potencial em termos de técnica. E de bônus, temos as versões instrumentais de “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil”, “Draco/Pneumatik Phenom” e “Metaphysical Evil”.

 

No mais, “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” mostra que o COLDBLOOD está longe de ser uma banda sem gás ou que sente o peso dos anos. Pelo contrário, eles ainda têm muito o que mostrar e muito o que contribuir para o cenário.

São 25 anos de banda. Entre idas, vindas e mudanças de formação, o agora duo carioca Coldblood chega ao seu terceiro álbum, Indescribable Physiognomy of The Devil, que prossegue o massacre iniciado por Under The Blade I Die (2007), seu primeiro ato, ou seja death metal tradicionalíssimo carregado por uma aura negra que parece ter vinda diretamente do inferno. Ou, como preferir, blackned death metal. Rótulos à parte, a música do grupo permanece indubitavelmente um holocausto sonoro, capaz de maltratar tímpanos mais sensíveis.

 

É de destacar como nosso país vem produzindo bandas do gênero, haja visto excelentes trabalhos que inclusive já figuraram em nossa coluna, como Morthur, Grave Desecrator (ex-banda do batera Markus Couttinho) e Jupiterian. Se você se animou só de ler o nome dessas bandas, pode ir sem medo nesse aqui. É um dos melhores álbuns do estilo já feitos por esses lados, apenas confirmando a boa fase. Vale lembrar que Markus e Diego Mercadante (guitarra e voz, ex-Unearthly) tiveram a ajuda de Vítor Esteves (baixo) e Artur Círio (guitarra) na gravação de Physiognomy….e o resultado é pra lá de satisfatório.

 

E que poder de destruição! Faixas como Tetragrammaton, Cocoon of Neophyte e a violenta Sulphur, são capazes de preencher o ar com cheiro de enxofre. Mandar blastbeats potentíssimos parece ser brincadeira de criança para Markus, enquanto Diego canta como se David Vincent fizesse uma viagem ao inferno para tomar alguns drinks com Lemmy Kilmister. A faixa-título acaba sendo o grande destaque do álbum, pois já chega chutando o pau, sem “intros” ou qualquer coisa que o valha. Brutal!

 

Parabéns a todos os envolvidos na confecção desse artefato, obrigatório para amantes do metal extremo. E, claro, não poderíamos nos despedir sem mencionar a poderosa arte da capa, que transmite fielmente o sentimento que o álbum passa.

Ovo је тек трећи албум бразилског death metal дуа Coldblood, чија је каријера дуга већ читавих 26 година. Бенд заправо има знатно више демо издања него дугосвирајућих албума. Иако до сада нисам имао прилике да ih слушам, оно што већ на прво слушање постаје еминентно је да су им главни узори Morbid Angel и Deicide. Већ сам успут поменуо да је у питању дуо, али на овом албуму апсолутно ништа није програмирано и урађено компјутерски, пошто је један од чланова одсвирао све рафалне паљбе на бубњевима, док је други кидао жице баса и гитара, те отпевао ову демонску проповед. Иако Coldblood готово ни по чему не одудара од својих узора, Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil ипак звучи свеже, можда баш из разлога мањка сличних, довољно квалитетних бендова. Албум је максимално агресиван, али је и изузетно пријатан за слушање. На њему је укупно 10 песама, а као бонус ту су и још 3 инструменталне верзије, те је укупно трајање скоро 52 минута. Coldblood је изванредан пример доброг и бескомпромисног ундергроунд бенда који своју музику ствара искључиво из љубави према истој и уживања у истој.

Com quase um quarto de século na cena underground não nos espanta ouvir um trabalho do Coldblood e ter certeza que estamos de frente a um trabalho marcante em prol do metal nacional,entretanto o desafio era muito maior pois o que se pode fazer após uma trabalho tão impiedoso como "Chronology of Satanic Events", mas ai que esta o ponto falado acima pois eles conseguiram "Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil é um dos melhores artefato da música extrema nacional.

 

 

 

Quem assina tal registro é Diego Mercadante (guitarras e voz), Artur Cirio (guitarras), e o "monstro" Markus Couttinho (bateria), que já abrem com a faixa que da nome ao trabalho uma otima escolha que já mostra que a banda evoluiu mas em nenhum momento abriu mão do peso latente de suas composições.

 

Difícil apontar destaques gerais em um trabalho tão homogêneo mas "Demons of Nox" The Synchrony of the Cursed Star",e Tetragrammaton são autenticamente Death Metal brasileiro, Sulphur chega a ser sufocante tamanha a brutalidade que a mesma emana.

 

Quem conhece o Coldblood sabe que eles tem um pé no Doom Metal então não é incomum momentos com uma quebra da velocidade mas é tudo tão bem pensando e executado que só demonstra o compromisso que os músicos tem com a musica extrema.

Death Metal out of Brazil is nothing really new. Since Sepultura’s early days there has been a constant stream of bands ranging from pretty average to nearly great. While nothing ever reached the height of “Arise” or “Beneath the Remains” there is some really good stuff from over there to check out.

 

Another band to add to this list would be Coldblood. I guess they can be counted among the Early-Days Sepultura followers as their sound is pretty similar in a lot of ways. The production somewhat sounds as if the album had been recorded in the nineties and has been slightly remastered in 2016.

 

The drums have this distinct steely and percussive tone giving the whole music a subtle jungle feel. The rhythm guitar is down tuned but not in a modern sense but more similar to those droning sounds back then. Lead solos are fast and flashy and while they sound like many others the quality is unquestioned.

 

Also the vocals remind me of Max Cavalera in his prime days. These are not your typical deep and growly vocals as can be found on most modern DM albums but held in mid-range and delivered with a lot of passion.

 

Everything on “Indescribable Physiognomy of the Devil” is very Old School. Not only the music and the sound but also the cover art work and the song titles and lyrics which are telling stories about demons and other dark themes. If there is one critic I had to make it would be the three not really necessary instrumental tracks that make the album feel a little bit dragging on. I have to admit that 15 minutes of pure instrumental music is just not my cup of tea and therefore they do not really add any value to the record in my books.

 

While I would not necessarily call the songwriting overly exciting or fresh it is more than solid as Coldblood are taking no risk and have not tried anything else beside recording a fun and easily listenable Old School Death Metal record. Just in case your shelf has still room for such an album you could do much worse than give this one a look.
