Mit „Arise In Impurity“ meldet sich eine 2015 in Dhaka, Bangladesch gegründete Band nach einigen Line-Up-Wechseln erstmals zu Wort. Orobas heißt sie und im Mai soll ihr Album erscheinen und die ersten 5 Stücke der Band beinhalten deren stärksten Einflüsse von Venom über Mayhem bis zu Behemoth reichen.

Nach einem….interessanten Intro beginnt der spaßige Teil des Albums. Richtig fette, abgehackte Riffs treffen auf heiseren aber sehr kraftvolle Vocals, die direkt vom Ohr in den Nacken wandern. Die Jungs verstehen es, wie man Blackened Death Metal zum Zünden bekommt. Die Riffs sind zwar häufig recht repetitiv, werden aber immer wieder durch kleine Soli, etwas Okulelengeklimper oder andere Späßchen aufgelockert, wodurch die CD nie langweilig wird. Bei den Vocals verhält es sich ähnlich. Heisere Growls überwiegen, aber auch Screams werden hier und da mal eingesetzt. Zum Abschluss wird noch „Black Metal“ von Venom zum Besten gegeben, bevor die 17 Minuten, die das Album lang ist, auch schon wieder vorbei sind. Thematisch grasen die 3 richtigen, selbstgemachten Songs verschiedenste Mythologien ab. „The Ravana“ dreht sich um den Haupt-Antagonisten im Hinduismus, „Lord Ramesses“ dürfte vielen als ‚Ramses‘ geläufig sein und zu guter Letzt folgt mit „Bad BLood Hunter“ der unvermeidbare Song über Satan.

Wenn man an Bangladesch denkt, denkt man sicher nicht zuerst an ordentlichen Extreme Metal, auch wenn die Szene Tag für Tag weiter wächst. Dabei sollte man sich den Namen Orobas auf jeden Fall im Hinterkopf behalten, die Jungs könnten auf dem Weg zur Spitze sein, denn „Arise In Impurity“ kann absolut überzeugen.

Another slice of bestial Blackened Death Metal is here with Bangladesh's Orobas stepping up to take the bullet. Armed with their debut EP just one year after their formation, Orobas waste no time in constructing a decent first-time effort to kick their career off with. 'Arise In Impurity' is the band's premier EP and whilst the music predominantly resides within the old-school Black Metal style, the vocals remain firmly rooted in the Death Metal style. Aside from the main three tracks and intro, Orobas have included a cover of Venom's 'Black Metal', which isn't half bad except cover's are too common these days and it makes as a poor excuse just to release the EP instead of recording another song in its place. 'Arise In Impurity' may not be innovative or anything new, but it certainly is a decent listen if your up for checking it out that is.

Starting with a wonderfully weird and disconcerting intro-track, the rest of Orobas‘ debut EP rests comfortably in the traditions of black metal, which is not to say this Bangladeshi band is simply copycatting the greats. Far from it.

They’ve got a great sense of creating rhythmically challenging compositions that grabs you by the throat and slams you around in a violent St. Vitus dance.

And the guitar solo on The Ravana is pure, dischordant, dark genius.

Orobas a vu le jour dans un petit pays à la culture millénaire enclavé entre l'Inde immortelle et la Birmanie, je parle bien entendu du Bangladesh. C’est bercé par l'Hindouisme et la religion musulmane qu'est née cette formation de Blackened Death Metal en 2015. Ils ont sorti cette année leur premier EP, « Arise In Impurity » en format CD via la collaboration Symbol of Domination Prod/Black Lion Productions, et en version CD-R Pro via Wolfmond Production.

L'artwork est à l'image des influences mythologiques qui guident le groupe. On peut y voir une divinité, mélange du démon Orobas – dont le groupe tire son nom – et de Sobek - le dieu égyptien de l’eau et de la fertilité -, orné des attributs des pharaons égyptiens et du Trishul, le symbole du démon Ravana, roi du Sri-Lanka.

Composé de cinq titres dont une cover de Venom, l'EP d'Orobas propose en un peu moins de vingt minutes un mélange de style classique mais réussi. Entre un Black Metal Orthodoxe et un Blackened Death à la Behemoth, les morceaux s’enchaînent rapidement dans une atmosphère occulte qui mélange les inspirations orientales qui bordent le Bangladesh comme le présage 'The Ravana', confirmé avec 'Bad Blood Hunter'. Ce titre joue sur la lourdeur du Black Metal Orthodoxe notamment grâce à la voix. L'occultisme est inspiré par la magie du Thrash/Speed/Heavy old-school à la Venom et Mercyful Fate. « Arise In Impurity » se conclue sur 'Black Metal' la cover de Venom, une version plus Black que l'original mais qui garde le côté Thrash, de quoi nous montrer que le groupe sait aussi bien parler de Satan que de Ravana ou encore de Ramsès.

Ce premier EP, encore sous l'emprise de leurs influences musicales, et au-delà du panthéon de divinités obscures et de grandes figures historiques, permet aussi de voir la qualité d’exécution du groupe. Il donne envie de le repasser, de voir le résultat d'un futur album qui prendrait plus parti au niveau musical, dépasser les inspirations et créer leur particularité. Qui sait, le souffle bengali marquera plus fortement son empreinte sur le futur d'Orobas.

The story of Orobas begin in a little country with an ancient culture, located between the immortal India and Burma, I’m talking about the Bangladesh, naturally. This Blackened Death Metal band is born in 2015, cradled by Hinduism and the Muslim culture. Their first EP called “Arise In Impurity” came out this year in CD format, through the collaboration of Symbol of Domination Prod and Black Lion Productions, and in CD-R Pro through Wolfmond Production.

The artwork takes its inspiration through the mythological influences, as the band’s music. We can see a divinity which is a blend of the demon Orobas – which is also the band’s name – and Sobek – the Egyptian god of water and fertility – adorned with the attributes of Egyptians pharaohs and with the Trishul, the symbol of the demon Ravana, king of the Sri-Lanka.

Composed of five tracks, including a cover of Venom, the EP of Orobas offers, in less than 20 minutes, a successful blend of classical styles. The style is between an Orthodox Black Metal and a Blackened Death as Behemoth. The tracks are following each other quickly, in an occult atmosphere which mix orientals inspirations that the premonition “The Ravana”, confirmed with “Bad Blood Hunter”. This title is playing on the loudness of the Orthodox Black Metal, thanks to the voice. The occultism is inspired by the magic of the Thrash/Speed/Heavy old school like Venom and Mercyful Fate. “Arise In Impurity” is concluding on “Black Metal”, the Venom’s cover, a Blacker version of the original which is keeping the Thrash side of the song, what is showing us that the band knows as well how to speaks about Satan, or Ravana and Ramses.

This first EP, which is still under the influence of their musical influences, and is beyond a pantheon of dark divinities and some great historical figures, let us appreciate the workmanship of the band. It gives the desire to listen it again and again, to ear the result of a future album which would take more advantage in music, and which would surpass the inspirations and would create their particularity. Who knows? The Bengali’s blow may strongly mark his stamp on Orobas's future.

Последнее время очень заметен рост азиатской метал-сцены и сцены стран третьего мира в частности. Вот и данная группа со своим дебютным миником не исключение. Вдохновляется банда такими группами, как Behemoth, Beherit, Mayhem и Venom (так написано на их странице в фейсбуке), хотя первые три группы я бы сразу вычеркнул.

Ну что можно сказать по музыкальному и визуальному оформлению? По музыке мы имеем незамороченный, довольно спокойный, иногда кривоватый, но предельно олдскульный дэт с небольшой блэк-металлической атмосферой. Гитарное звучание получилось, конечно же, очень сухое, что делает общий саунд немного плоским. Музыканты не стали заморачиваться на дубли, запись второй гитары, а просто сыграли то, что есть. Исключением являются редкие соляки и трек "Bad Blood Hunter" с неожиданной акустической вставкой. Вот если бы подобное явление встречалось чаще, то было бы гораздо интересней. Возможно, более интересной музыку сделал бы грамотный бас, но в данном случае его как такового не особо и слышно, ведь заморочек на запись ритм-секции ребята тоже избежали. Запись аналоговая, довольно чистая, сведено все ровно, но каких-то конкретно профессиональных обработок нет. Возможно, это и к лучшему, что нет, но об объеме надо было все же подумать.

Вокальная часть, кстати, очень напомнила Vader, да и вокалист в общем-то в целом хорошо постарался. Шершавый, сиповатый гроул на фоне однотипных риффов слушается гармонично и очень разборчиво.

Завершает альбом кавер на знаменитый трек группы Venom, который, по сути, переигран "в копейку", но особо не выделяется. В то же время, несмотря на минусы, не сказать что альбом плохой или в край примитивный. Коллекционерам олдскула из забытых богом стран данные 17 минут, возможно, и придутся по вкусу, особенно если учитывать интересное оформление компакт-диска. А вот на фото участников смотреть не советую...

I meant to post this yesterday, but my job continues to mess with me. What I did here was to collect some new singles and a couple of new EPs that I found two nights ago while using the internet  to crawl through the underground. I like all this stuff and thought you might also find something in here that strikes the right chord.

In this globe-trotting expedition the music consists mainly of various shades and phases of death metal (much of it “blackened”) by five bands, hence the title of this post.

VERBUM

Verbum are based in Chile, and their debut EP Processio Flagellates was originally released on tape by the Chilean label Penitenziagite Records, although it’s now also available as a download at Bandcamp.

“Acta Non Verba” is a staggering, cataclysmically grief-stricken monster that initially proceeds at the pace of funeral doom and becomes increasingly intense and destructive as it evolves. “Ekphrasis of the Weak” ramps up the intensity by an order of magnitude, unleashing a storm of harrowing blackened death metal before collapsing into a titanic, ritualistic stomp laced with otherworldly arpeggios and truly ghastly, wrenching howls and shrieks.

“Eucharistic Flesh” further amplifies the EP’s building atmosphere of remorseless savagery through a terrifying cyclone of scything riffs and spine-shivering drumwork, transitioning in the middle to another lumbering crushfest of doom and degradation and another terrifying display of vocal extremity (which sound increasingly like the agonies of a man tearing out his own guts).

By the time you reach the closing track, “Procesión (Espurio Unigénito)”, you’ll have a firm grasp on Verbum’s modus operandi — and they will have a firm grasp on your throat as well, doing their damnedest to choke the life our of listeners and then consume the remains like a school of giant piranha. The song again veers (back and forth) from slow, massive clobbering to unhinged, inhuman fury.

What a damned fine EP this is! It may be a debut, but it is clearly the work of people (mostly unidentified) who clearly know what the fuck they are doing.

Verbum are looking for a label to release the EP on CD or LP, and they’re also at work on two songs for a possible 7″ release. The EP’s cover art consists of a portion of Albrecht Dürer’s “Flagellant” (1510) and cool logo work by Daniel Hermosilla. To download the EP, go here:

Orobas  are  a  band  from  Bangladesh  that  plays a  blackened  form  of death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Arise  In  Impurity"  which was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Symbol  Of  Domination  Productions  and  Black  Lion  Productions.

A  very dark,  avant  garde  and  ritualistic  intro  starts  off  the  ep  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  very  heavy  and  brutal  blackened  death metal  direction  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  while  melodic  riffing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  done in  a  growling  fashion.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  remain  true  to  a  very dark  style  of  death  metal  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  some  of  the  tracks  while  some  of  the  riffs  are  influenced by  thrash  metal  while  one  of  the  tracks  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  black  metal  screams  while  also  bringing  in  some  ukulele solos  and they  close  the  ep  with  a  cover  of  Venom's "Black  Metal".

Orobas  plays  a  style  of  blackened  death  metal  that  has  a  more  darker  approach than  most  bands  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Mythology  themes.

In  my  opinion  Orobas  are  a  very  great  sounding  blackened  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check out this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Ravana"  and  "Bad  Blood  Hunter".

Bangladeshi black-death. I’d say, for a change, that they actually lean closer to “death” than “black” in that equation, which is an unusual plus in their favor.

I wouldn’t exactly say they made a fan out of me here. But it’s surprisingly listenable, the riffs are simple and straightforwardly old school and the whole EP feels much akin to the earlier blackened thrash end of the black metal movement. A tad South American stylistically, perhaps?

There were some interesting folk bits thrown in that felt kind of Greek in origin, and bringing Rotting Christ to mind is always a good thing. Then they close matters out by covering Venom. Nice touch.

I’ll give ’em the horns up in the hopes they get a full length out soon. This was pretty decent, and by what appear to be Symbol of Domination’s standards?  Practically a masterpiece.

Direttamente dal Bangladesh – paese non certo prolifico per le uscite in ambito metallico (anche se la penisola indiana ha prodotto ultimamente qualche interessante realtà estrema, non ultimi gli Infernal Diatribe) – ecco arrivare gli Orobas, agguerrito quintetto dedito ad un robusto blackened death metal, appetibile ai fruitori del genere non solo per la curiosità suscitata dalla provenienza esotica del gruppo ma anche per l’abilità dello stesso nell’unire, con discreta padronanza e chiarezza d’intenti, ferocia ed aggressività con richiami all’heavy classico ed elementi diversificanti ed in senso lato sperimentali. Accanto a momenti rocciosi e granitici e ad episodi più canonici (“Bad Blood Hunter”) vi sono infatti fughe in territori ottantiani (la seconda parte di “The Ravana”) e squarci che spiazzano per la loro inattesa freschezza (l’assolo finale di ukulele di “Lord Ramesse”, opera del chitarrista Lord O. Badagris): il tutto tenuto insieme da un’atmosfera sulfurea e da una produzione piuttosto potente. In questo contesto non sfigura neppure la cover del superclassico dei Venom “Black Metal”, resa con piglio bestiale e decisamente energetico. Complimenti quindi alla sempre attiva Symbol Of Domination Production per aver scovato questa giovane band, che con questo esordio si guadagna una piena sufficienza e promette di avere altre frecce al proprio arco. Ascolto consigliato.

Gostamos sempre quando nos aparece à frente para analisar trabalhos de bandas de lugares exóticos. Os Orobas surgem-nos do Bangladesh com um death metal blasfemo e old school. Não nos apresentam nada de novo nem de fora de normal, mas realmente têm uma energia que nos mantém a ouvir este lançamento. Assim é, até à versão do clássico dos Venom, "Black Metal". Este tema icónico surge de forma tão apagada e tão sem poder, principalmente no que diz respeito às guitarras, que acaba por estragar a boa impressão deixada atrás. Apagando esta impressão, ficamos a aguardar por novidades dos Orobas.

Ecco, ora ho aggiunto alla lista dei miei personali ascolti anche del Black dal Bangladesh. Gli Orobas fanno quel Black Metal tanto caro agli anni ottanta, sporco e grezzo come solo in quegli anni si faceva, appunto… Tre tracce più una intro da fare rimpiangere un genere ormai perduto, dove il Black si fondeva con il Thrash più marcio e le capacità esecutive contavano davvero poco. I nostri fanno il loro dovere, macinando materiale purulento e marcescente, grondante odio e passione per il suono grezzo. Aggiungiamoci poi una cover, peraltro piuttosto canonica e simile all’originale, del classico dei Venom “Black Metal” e avrete un’idea di come suonano questi scellerati. Sono fermi nel tempo, tren’anni e più indietro, e va ben così: c’è pure bisogno di loro in questo universo musicale. Accoliti.

Arise in Impurity, EP debut from Bangladesh Blackened Death Metal Band. This’s my reviews, check it out.

 

 

1st track, Ode To Impurity (Intro). Instrumental psychedelic and dark ambient opening song. 2nd track, The Ravana. A mid-tempo death metal song with Great Shredder solo and this song ended with dark accoustic guitar arpeggio lick. 3rd track, Lord Ramesses. A song with Thrash Metal Riffs, Cookie Monster Vocal and ended with simple Guitar solo.

 

4th track, Bad Blood Hunter. This song is really Blackened Death than previous tracks. The vocal is more variative and this song is awesome, cause ended with acoustic Guitar and Ukulele Solo. 5th track, Black Metal (Venom cover). Although titled “Black Metal,” but the genre of this song is Death Metal. This’s Death Metal version of Venom song titled “Black Metal”

How many bands do you need to create a ‘scene’? Well if the answer is ‘more than one ‘ then there is indeed a Bangladeshi blackened death metal scene and kudos to the labels for getting these two debut EPs out to a wider public. Not an obvious place to go hunting for extreme metal talent but it’s always heartening to see people just getting out there and doing it regardless of cultural backdrop, race, religion or style of government telling them not to in one way or another.

 

So first up we have Orobas – Arise In Impurity (Satanath). A little random intro noise and we thump into ‘The Ravana’. Mid-paced death metal of the blackened variety which ends with a quiet, weird little out of tune piano, which is actually rather neat and suggests imagination at play. Yeah, it’s OK. The production seems a little flat somehow but not cripplingly so. ‘Lord Ramesses’ and ‘Bad Blood Hunter’ up next and I guess the sound of Orobas begins to remind me of Polish band Pandemonium, and others; a slightly technical sound, good solid death metal shaded a nice black just a little unformed identity wise at present, but that will come. They finish with a cover of Venom’s ‘Black Metal’ which is a serviceable death metal variation. Lots of enthusiasm here, a good bit of obvious playing ability. It’s a good start. (6/10)

 

SerpentSSecondly we get Serpent Spells – Mantras Within Ascending Fire (Godz Ov War). A nicely picked intro drops heavily into ‘Piercing The Cervix Of Nehemah’, a full tilt bit of galloping death metal with eyes raised in a Nile direction with more of a black metal feel to the vocals, something continued with the equally frantic ‘Scourge Heretic Consecration’. It’s veering towards the technical, though the crispness isn’t quite there yet and the drum sound is a little thin. On the plus side though, the time variations are good and the slower section is simple, effective and eerie. The title track closes things in another headlong, spikey drive. Honours even I’d say. There you go. As debut releases, both are genuinely promising and enthusiastic, studied students. Not much that would mark them out as being from their particular region, but may be yet to come. A little more growth and maturity and I’m sure more individuality will push through. In the meantime; good start guys, good start.

Dhaka est la capitale du Bangladesh, mais également le berceau de OROBAS. Fondé début 2015, le groupe nous propose cette année sa première réalisation par le biais de « Arise In Impurity ». Avec des paroles basées sur plusieurs domaines tels que l’occulte et la mythologie, un death metal saupoudré de black domine tout au long de cet EP. Si la voix est gutturale généralement, même si quelques blasts se manifestent, l’ensemble ne s’avère pas trop agressif au regard du style pratiqué ici. L’édifice se montre même plutôt mélodique et renferme différentes influences. Déjà, une touche égyptienne émane musicalement de « The Ravana » inspiré par l'hindouisme et doté d’un solo. De plus, la fin de cette composition ainsi que l’introduction « Ode To Impurity » utilisent des claviers assez psychédéliques. Concernant « Lord Ramesses » au riff efficace, on remarquera une inspiration heavy metal. Par ailleurs, des apports thrash apparaissent comme sur « Bad Blood Hunter » plus énervé et qui met en scène un ukulélé lors de son final. Pour conclure cet EP, le quintet met à l’honneur une de ses influences à savoir VENOM. En effet, les bangladais reprennent respectueusement l’éponyme « Black Metal » (nous ramenant en 1982) avec une approche speed thrash. Attisant la curiosité, OROBAS est un jeune groupe cherchant ses marques et qui ne se limite pas à un style unique. Désormais, la prochaine étape est un album pour dévoiler ses atouts.

Debuttano con l’Ep Arise In Impurity i death metallers Orobas , maligna creatura attiva da appena un anno e cresciuta nei meandri della scena di Dhaka, in Bangladesh.

 

Il quartetto capitanato dal batterista e fondatore Hephaestus, paga dazio al blackened death metal di scuola est europea, con le proprie influenze che non si scostano dalle solite band storiche (Behemoth).

Con impatto e discreta determinazione, la giovane band asiatica rilascia il suo primo lavoro, Arise In Impurity, un ep composto da quattro songs più intro, oscure e basate su testi occulti e mitologici.

Senza lasciare nulla per quanto riguarda cattiveria ed attitudine, il gruppo spara quattro cartucce devastanti, colme di blast beat e di tutti i cliché che il genere impone, inserendosi nelle nuovissime proposte del metal estremo underground provenienti dal continente asiatico in seconda fila rispetto ad altre realtà con più esperienza e più personalità.

Bad Blood Hunter risulta il migliore episodio, oscura e malvagia quanto basta per convincere, mentre nel finale troviamo la buona cover del classico dei Venom, Black Metal.

La strada per il gruppo è lunga e tortuosa, Arise In Impurity può diventare un sufficiente inizio di carriera, se seguito da lavori più personali, tre brani (se escludiamo intro e cover) sono pochi per dare un giudizio definitivo, ma per ora il rischio è che gli Orobas finiscano nel calderone dei gruppi dimenticati o addirittura ignorati, anche se un ascolto potrebbe rivelarsi gradito per chi è un fan accanito del genere.

Sometimes I have the feeling that the realisation of travelling through time is pretty near. Especially when I hear bands like OROBAS from Bangladesh. Their first EP “Arise In Impurity” sounds so much like the 1980s, it is a pure joy for all those old farts who witnessed the golden age of Metal. And the stuff OROBAS deliver doesn't sound put on. Instead, I feel the atmosphere of departure that was present back then, combined with the enthusiasm of the South American Metal scene back then. Don't expect perfectionism here, don't hope for a polished sound, don't wait for progressive moments. And you won't get disappointed. Expect charming rude riffs, hope for a rough sounding production with some mistakes and wait for some old fashioned proto Death Metal. And you will be pleased all the way through the three original songs of “Arise In Impurity”. Well, some original ideas are on the EP as well, like the spacey outro section of 'The Ravana' or the Ukulele(!) solo in 'Bad Blood Hunter'. Even the cover version of the classic VENOM tune 'Black Metal' does not diminish the fun I had with "Arise In Impurity". So, it's both thumbs up for OROBAS! I hope for more in the near future!

Blackened death metal from Bangladesh, that's something you don't hear every day. Orobas was formed in 2015, heavily inspired by bands like Venom, Mayhem, Beherit and Behemoth. Their music follows a similar path, an eerie intro, followed by primitive and harsh black metal. Yet, it isn't all blast-beats and thrash metal inspired chaos. The songs are quite varied and show some seasoned musicians. There's enough brute power and energy to please every fan of old school metal, whether that is thrash, death or black. Old school, like in the days those tags didn't really exist yet. You just smashed the play button and started headbanging. This ep is a good way to relive that era and it contains some nice surprises!

OROBAS aus Bangladesch macht keine großen Geheimnisse um die direkten Einflüsse der aktuellen EP. Tief verwurzelt im extremen Sound der 80er orientiert man sich sowohl an den ersten Gehversuchen im Death-Metal-Segment als auch bei schwarzmetallischen Vorreitern wie CELTIC FROST und HELLHAMMER. Herausgekommen ist dabei ein ziemlich puristischer 5-Tracker, dessen überraschende Vielseitigkeit der Band aber leider zum Verhängnis wird. Denn Flamenco-Gitarren ('Bad Blood Hunter'), lahme Doom-Kost ('Lord Ramesses') und ein ziemlich schwaches Cover des VENOM-Klassikers 'Black Metal' sind nicht gerade der Stoff, aus dem künftige Helden gemacht sind.

 

Dabei steigen die Asiaten noch sehr viel versprechend ein und feiern in 'The Ravana' einen stillen Tribut an Acts wie POSSESSED und DEATH, deren ungebremste, teils auch naive Ursprünglichkeit nahezu eins zu eins adaptiert wird. Doch im Anschluss verliert die Band irgendwie die Linie, beginnt zu experimentieren und entfremdet das Old-School-Gemisch auf zunehmend unangenehmere Art und Weise. Mit dem Schlusston der besagten Fremdinterpretation endet schließlich eine durchwachsene EP, die den ersten Erwartungen nicht gerecht werden kann und den Sprung in den international anerkannten Underground mit "Arise In Impurity" deutlich verpasst.

Bangladeshi blackened death metallers Orobas hail from Dhaka, and their new EP ‘Arise In Impurity’ comes to us from the underrated Symbol of Domination label. It is seventeen minutes of ferocity and blackness the likes of which I’ve never seen from this part of the world, and I like that!

 

After the eerie, almost occult organ and synthy intro, the machine gun precision of opener proper ‘The Ravana’ becomes ragingly apparent. But this is no one dimensional thrasher. ‘The Ravana’ oozes with miasmic darkness, with riffs that loom in and out of shadowy places with liberal doses of Behemoth-esque blasting. There’s something about the keyboard use that adds a little unease about what the end result may become, which enhances the release. Without something setting them apart, Orobas may have got lost in the mix somewhat.

 

‘Lord Ramesses’ has an early Venom vibe to it, while the nasty riffing in ‘Bad Blood Hunter’ is very tasty. Orobas have got a lot of potential to become something very special. My only real criticism is that the production would benefit from being a thicker, to give the guitar work a little more body. But a commendable start!

Orobas é uma banda de Blackened Death Metal proveniente de Dhaka, Bangladesh. A banda foi formada pelo baterista Hephaestus no início de 2015. Após várias mudanças na programação, a banda (composta pelo baterista Hephaestus, vocalista Sammael, guitarrista Kraken e baixista Puppeteer) gravou seu EP de estréia intitulado “Arise In Impurity”, lançado em 20 de maio de 2016 Depois do lançamento de ‘Arise In Impurity’ Kraken deixou Orobas e Puppeteer se mudou para guitarras do baixo. Lucifer juntou-se como um novo baixista. Orobas é fortemente influenciado por bandas como Venom, Mayhem, Beherit e Behemoth. O tema lírico da banda é baseado no ocultismo e mitologia. Atualmente Orobas está trabalhando para uma Demo que será lançada em 2017.

 

‘Arise In Impurity’ é o EP Debut da banda Orobas. Como parte da assinatura de Orobas a banda usou instrumento musical exclusivo como Ukulele em uma das faixas. As letras foram escritas por alguns personagens influentes de diferentes mitologias e o título do EP foi tirado após o trabalho feito por Nohttzver (Ex-Arma, Ex-Nafarmaan) de Pishacha. Blackened death from Bangladesh. Yes indeed. Or, well, the band themselves call it blackened death - but I will get back to that in a bit. Orobas are a four piece from Dhaka, who have added a session ukulele player for the recording of 'Arise In Impurity'. Except for the short ukulele solo, the band also use some keys in intro / intermezzo's, but for the rest, they are a classic metal combo, line-up-wise.

 

And classic metal is what we get: Orobas take us back to the days of Venom, Death Strike / early Master. So, 1990 and even earlier. Blackened death is not the description I would go for: rather simplistic, straightforward proto death does a better job in describing what Orobas has on offer.

The production and sound match the era as well, it has a certain charm, but does sound a bit thin - although bonedry might even be a better choice of words here. Besides the aforementioned bands, I am also reminded of the German act Impending Doom, who were active in the mid/end '90s. Oh, and the keys remind me of '90s computer game soundscapes. So... If you want to go back in time, this might be just the right stuff for you, powerful enough to teleport you back 25 years in one helping. It does have its charms, but all in all, these songs are just a bit too simple - and to be fair, boring.

Oh, right, if you are into covers and such, Orobas also play a cover of Venom's 'Black Metal'.

Black death metal bend iz ove zemlje koja već ima solidnu listu bendova je oformio bubnjar Hephaestus početkom 2015. godine. Poslije nekoliko izmjena line up-a bend (koji se sastojao od već pomenutog bubnjara Hephaestus-a, vokala Sammael-a, gitariste Kraken-a and basiste Puppeteer-a) je snimio svoje debi izdanje pod nazivom ''Arise In Impurity'' koje je izdato 20. maja 2016. Bend radi na demou koji je planiran za 2017. Liričke teme Orobas-a mi je lično približio moj prijatelj, bubnjar Hephaestus , i one su sve prisutne na samom omotu, koji je sam po sebi konceptualan I odražava tematske cjeline albuma, kao i sam bend. Njihova tematika je bazirana na okultnom I mitologiji i tri drijevna zla starog svijeta. Sam demon Orobas, princ pakla koji je fizički predstavljen kao spoj konja (primjetni su konjsko lice i rogovi na omotu) I čovjeka koji ima 20 demonskih legija pod svojom komandom.

 

 

 

 

Njihov ''Arise In impurity'' je EP izdat u CD i CD-R formatima u Maju, 2016.  CD (500 kopija) je izdat kao Co-release sub-labela ruskog Satanath Records-a, label-om zvanim Symbol Of Domination Prod. (Bjelorusija) sa Black Lion Productions-om iz Švedske. Kao CD-R (200 kopija sa 200 naljepnica sa Cover Artwork-om) je izdat za Wolfmond Production iz Njemačke.

 

Izdanje otvara jeziv i proganjajući instrumentalni intro, u kojem kroz naizgled gramofonski efekat klavijatura zvuči kao ukleti vrisci duhova. Druga pjesma ''The Ravana'' posvećena je prvom od tri zla, ponekad predstavljenim kao demonom Rakšasom, desetoglavim Šivinim posvećenikom. Njega na Artwork-u predstavlja trišula, indijski borbeni trozubac. Pjesma počinje agresivnim bubnjem i orijentalnom melodijom u maniru radova egipatskog Scarab-a i atmosferom Origin-ove  ''Wrath of Vishnu''.  Melodija se pretvara u klasičnu melodiju koja podsjeća na Monstrosity, i nakon još jednog kruga orijentalne melodije, upoznajemo se sa old skul vokalom, uz rif neobičnog ritma koji prate lijepi bubanjski aranžman. Za moj ukus ovaj dio se previše puta ponavlja i predugo traje, ali nesumnjivo ima svoj unikatan šmek. Solo je sasvim solidan, miješa orijentalne sa klasičnim evropskim elementima, kao što rade i dvije prvobitne melodije, koje opet čujemo da razbiju monotoniju prvog rifa. Klavijature na kraju ove pjesme su fino iznenađenje.

 

 

''Lord Ramesses'', o drugom zlu starog svijeta, faraonu Ramzesu koji je pominjan od biblije do pjesama Nile-a ima epičan početak, nakon čega upada dobar melodični thrash trzaj uz vokal i lijep thrash rif poslije njega. Refren je varijacija na osnovnu melodiju. Opet epični intro, pa opet melodični trzaj, opet razrada I refren.  Zadnji rif je urađen u modernijem duhu, a nakon toga upada odličan blast beat, pa još bolja epična malodija koja nas izbodi iz pjesme. Na omotu je predstavljena faraonskom krunom.

 

''Bad Blood Hunter'' je, kako mi je objasnio Hephaestus posvećena samom Satani, i ubjedljivi je adut albuma. Na omotu se može primjetiti zmija na faraonskoj kruni koja ga predstavlja. Prava death metal klanica u kojoj se odlični rifovi smjenjuju sa još boljim black-death melodijama od početka do kraja, growl'vokali se smjenjuju sa scream-ovima. Zadnji dio je odličan, i na orijentalan rif ulijeću zvukovi ukulela. Budući da sam velikiu ljubitelj tradicionalnih muzičkih elemenata provučenih kroz metal, poput Ade-a, Nile-a, pa I samih panslovenskih bendova od Temnozora do Nokturnal Mortuum-a, može se reći da me je ovaj dio oduševio. Gernijalan i sasvim neočekivan završetak, koji me je poveo nazad u trenutak kada sam po prvi put čuo maestralan kraj Death-ovog ''Crystal Mountain''-a sa iznenadnim uliijetanjem soloa na akustičnoj gitari ukombinovanim sa električnom. Izdanje zatvara obrada Venom-ovog ''Black Metal''-a. Možda je ova pjesma i previše puta obrađena od previše bendova, ali njom nam ovi vrijedni momci iz Bangladeša jasno poručuju o čemu se u njihovoj koncepciji metala radi i iz čega crpe svoju energiju. Bend u suštini ne donosi ništa novo u metal žanru, ali je zanimljiv spoj orijentalnih i evropskih skala. Činjenica da bendovi u ovom dijelu svijeta stvaraju metal muziku je meni samom impozantna i ovi momci su po meni ovim izdanjem odradili sasvim solidan posao. Oni su na samom omotu pet maglovitih figura lijevo, od kojih je jedino session član okrenut suprotno od ostalih. Odličan I kreativan koncept, sviđa mi se skrivena pozadina iza svega.

 Orobas is a band from Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh and impressions after listening to their EP are quite positive. Their EP ''Arise In impurity'' is released in CD and CD-R formats in May of 2016. CD edition (500 copies) was published as a co-release of Russian Satanath Records' sub-label, a label known as Symbol Of Domination Prod. (Belarus) and the Black Lion Productions from Sweden. As a CD-R edition (200 copies with 200 stickers with Cover Artwork included), it was issued for Wolfmond Production from Germany.

 

 

 

EP starts with creepy and haunting instrumental intro, in which haunting keyboards sound ghost-like. The second song ''The Ravana'' is dedicated to the first of three evils, sometimes presented as a demon Rakshasa, ten-headed devotee of Shiva. In the artwork he is represented with trishula, Indian fighting trident. ''Lord Ramesses'', the second evil of the old world, Pharaoh Ramses, who was mentioned from Bible to Nile's song  is also in the cover, presented with the Pharaoh's crown. '' Bad Blood Hunter '' is, as Hephaestus explained to me, dedicated to Satan himself, and it's definitely best one on album, a real death metal slaughterhouse, in which great riffs alternate with even better black-death tunes from beginning to the end, growl vocals  alternating with scream vocals, end the sound of ukulele. Since I am a big fan of traditional musical elements combined with metal (from Nile and Ade to panslavic bands like Temnozor and Nokturnal Mortuum,  I can onlzy say that I was thrilled with this part. Completely unexpected ending, which took me back to the moment when I have heard Death's '' Crystal Mountain '' for the first time, and a great end of - solo on acoustic guitar combined with the distorted, electric one. One might notice a snake on Pharaoh's crown that presents him. The EP is closed with a cover of Venom's ''Black Metal''. One might think that this song has been covered too many times by too many bands, but when covered by these hard working guys from Bangladesh it shows clearly what their concept of metal is about and where they draw their energy and inspiration from.

 

The band doesn't really bring anything new to this specific genre of metal, but the fact that the bands in this part of the world make such an agressive metal music is very impressive to me and these guys have done a very solid job with this release. On the cover, they're presented as five misty figures in the left, and only the session member facing away from the others. Excellent and creative concept, I like the hidden background behind it.

 

This EP is marked with old school vocals and it's mixing classical European elements with the oriental. It has everything: melody in the manner of the works of the Egyptian Scarab and atmosphere of Origin's ''Wrath of Vishnu'', the melodies reminiscent to Monstrosity, melodic thrash-death riffs and even ukulele combined with the sounds of distorted guitar in the background.

No me canso de repetirlo: RRWZ me ha dado la oportunidad de escuchar bandas de los más recónditos países de nuestro planeta. Esta vez, directamente desde Bangladesh, Orobas debuta con este “Arise in impurity”.

Si bien la imagen de Orobas nos podría indicar otra cosa, diecisiete minutos bastan para darnos cuenta que este cuarteto despliega un feroz y oscuro death/thrash con espíritu old-school de muy buena factura.

Las influencias son demasiadas para nombrar pero el cover final debería darnos una pista de por dónde viene la mano, pero Orobas no vive de nostalgia, sino que abreva de las fuentes de bandas más modernas como Behemoth o Vader.

Excelente comienzo, recomendado!

Да, пожалуй, начну с того, что ребята издали вот это на компакт-диске - Symbol Of Domination им в подмогу. И на виниле, тащемто — 500 штук. Фото прилагается (взято с фб). ''Arise In Impurity'' on Vinyl 7''. Причем, как видите, есть экземпляры с красночерным винилом. Говорят, такие 200 штук первые будут продаваться. Ну там, мерчик кое-какой, еще футбы и проч.

Orobas родом из Бангладеш, но не все его члены, как мне кажется, есть вроде бы и европейцы там. Это их первый материал, который пошел в массы в качестве реального продукта. Потому-то я и удивился его разным форматам. По моему на фб я еще и кассету видел. Упс, пока не забыл: обложка НА КОМПАКТ-ДИСКЕ решена не в черно-белом варианте, как на виниле, а в черном и темно-оранжевом. Мрачняк в оформлении — однозначно.

Всего в этой компаии 4 человека и они валят олдовый дэт-метал, который хотелось бы слушать часами. Здесь поменьше тайминг, но есть возможность закольцевать диск и гонять, пока не …

Звук сооружен сочный и такой, как бы на живой плоти приготовлен. Ударные смачно работают — живее всех живых. И в целом эпишка обладает особым очарованием музыки, исполненной чуть ли не заживо. С первого прохода. Или так не бывает? Ну на этот вопрос ответят профи, а я только отмечу это обаяние, которое все-таки сыграло свою роль в воздействии этого дэтового материала на металлюг и имеет под собой (или над собой) вполне объективные основания.

Дэт. На издающем лэйбле написано «блэкенед дэт». А я вот думаю, что это дэт и дэто-треш. Очень хороший (злобарьский по идеалу) микс. Такая смесь ценится среди людей и в особенности нЕлюдей в человечьем обличье. Аврелий Августин (какой-то латинянин) в свое время сказал: «Холод милосердия есть молчание сердца». То, что пропагандирует Orobas, никаким боком к милосердию не относится. Ибо звуковая палитра этого аудиального террора насыщена красным, коричневым и красно-черным, короче - все цвета засыхания. Не зря группа обращается к местному оккультизму, весьма специфичному, надо сказать (ни слова более).

Тут есть даже интро. Но главное — то, что воспоследует за ним. Богатое многофактурное произведение в стиле хаотик-дэт в мид-темпо, разборчивое, разобранное по костям в ритуальных целях. Собранное потом. А пара костей отнесена местному колдуну. Ну и так далее, сами понимаете. И вот входит соло-гитара на 2:24, свободолюбивая, дерзкая, самостоятельная по жизни. Смотришь - все как будто просто, а магия работает. А с чего бы она не работала? Кости дело специфическое... органчик опять же там непритязательный... и что в нем? Будто кипятка на ноги вылили.

А вот в треках 3, 4 трэша впиливают в тело трека, органично, будто медицинское образование есть. Хорошо владеют скальпелем. Везде очень по умному сделан вокал - в олдовом ключе раннего дэтового неолита. Это искусно заниженный горлом харш, особое мастерство вокалиста. В одном месте он встречается с истинно трешевым ором.

А может магия заключена в проигрыше укулеле?... я давно знал этот инструмент, естественно сразу и забывал про него. А вот тут не могу сказать, удастся ли... Это гитарка такая небольшая, на 4 струны. Наверное, это и сесть весь местный колорит (ага Бангладеш и укулеле из Гаваев, все рядом)) ). А остальное неординарный мистический дэт-треш.

С особым интересом прослушан кавер великих VENOM – Black metal. Сразу в голове начинает играть, правда? 35 лет компо, исполнена сотни раз на дисках и миллионы раз на концертах авторами и другими поклонниками рогатого. И каждый раз как откровение, как черная сага, как бросок из тьмы...

La comitiva avanzaba solemnemente por el largo pasillo del templo. Todos llevaban unas roídas túnicas negras y máscaras de calaveras. Al llegar al altar, cada miembro de la congregación tomó el puesto que le correspondía formando un circulo. El sumun sacerdote subió al tabernáculo. Después de recrear unos signos con sus manos, comenzó unos canticos. Excepto él, el resto de los allí presentes comenzaron a retorcerse de dolor. Se quitaron las caretas, mientras la piel de sus caras se desprendía dolorosamente. Cuando hubo acabado la mutación, se acercaron al tonsurado. Éste descubrió su rostro, mostrando su verdadera tez. Sus gruesos y retorcidos cuernos se alzaban, mientras que unos ojos desprovistos de humanidad miraban a su nuevo ejército. Había llegado el momento de recuperar el mundo que una vez el Creador les negó……

En 2015, el combo de Blackened Death Metal Orobas, procedentes de Bangladesh, inició sus actividades. Finalmente, el sello Symbol of Domination Prod. publicó su E.P debut “Arise in Impurity” el 20 de mayo de 2016. Ahora, Broken Tomb os ofrecerá su reseña.

 

 

Siempre es difícil tener que escribir cosas negativas sobre un grupo. Es básicamente como si después de crear algo con mucho esfuerzo e ilusión, llegase un tipo que va de entendido y dice que eso no sirve. Pues bien, tristemente ese estúpido energúmeno soy yo. En mi defensa, podéis creerme cuando digo que odio tener que escribir malas líneas de la banda que sea.

 

Para la obra que hoy nos atañe, la palabra que mejor la define es “amateur”. Durante los escasos casi 18 minutos de música, la sensación de que tan solo son unos amigos creando algo de “ruido” sin mayor pretensión no cesa. Las tonadas carecen de gancho, y a pesar de que su extensión es estándar se acaban haciendo tediosas. Por otro lado, la producción no ayuda. No es que suene mal, pero sí que parece grabado en la casa de alguno de los miembros con un ordenador medio decente. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que es un conjunto que está empezando, con lo que espero que en próximos lanzamientos la cosa mejore. Aunque a juzgar por la capacidad compositiva de este asalto, tengo serias dudas. Ni el último corte, que es un cover de “Black Metal” de Venom llega a salvarse.

 

Los riffs son ásperos. Los hallamos fluidos, punzantes, malignos, a una cuerda y pesados.

 

Respecto a los tonos vocales, descarnados growls os despellejarán vivos.

 

La batería tiende a ser tocada a mid tempo. No esperéis mucha velocidad, mas no está suprimida por completo. Os toparéis con algún blast beat.

 

 

El Extended Play lo abre el innecesario tema intro “Ode to Impurity”, que de inmediato da paso a “The Ravana“. El inicio de este track es grandilocuente y de ipso facto llegan unas guitarras y parches feroces, hasta que acaba por desinflarse. Eso sí, atentos a los últimos instantes del susodicho. La acometida prosigue con la aburrida “Lord Ramesses”. Una tonada a medio gas donde el interés se pierde casi de inmediato. Llegamos a la recta final del empuje con “Bad Blood Hunter”. Para este humilde redactor es sin duda la mejor canción de todas gracias a la inclusión de…. escuchadla mejor y sabréis lo que quería expresar. Parar poner punto y final al disco, la banda escogió la versión del clásico “Black Metal” de los maestros Venom. Mi opinión sobre ésta ya la habéis leído un poco más arriba. ¿Para qué repetirla verdad?

 

Solo espero que para futuras entregas se esmeren en regalar algo de mayor calidad. Aun así, no está de más que juzguéis por vosotros mismos. Para ello solo hay una forma: darle al play al plástico.
