Missa Mortvm are a band from Chile that plays a very raw and melodic form of occult black metal and this is a review f their 2015 album "Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis" which was released by Satanath Records.

Silent sounds start off the album before getting a little bit more avant garde and ritualistic along with some melodic chanting and after a minute the music goes into a very fast, raw and melodic black metal direction along with some blast beats and leads that utilize a great amount of melody and the vocals are high pitched screams.

At times the vocals get very deep and grim in sound along with all of the tracks being very long and epic in length and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and you can hear a lot of 90's influences in the music while the songs still have a very modern atmosphere to them.

Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the tracks also bring in bass leads and you can also hear a bit of the more darker side of death metal in the bands musical style and chants also make their return at times while some songs also bring in a brief use of clean playing and synths which also gives the recording more of an atmospheric and epic feeling.

Missa Mortvm plays a style of occult black metal that is very raw, atmospheric and melodic at times while also adding in a touch of dark and death metal to create a style of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Spanish and cover Spirtual Ascension and Wandering Spirits themes.

In my opinion Missa Mortvm are a very great sounding raw and melodic occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Oh Bene Subtritus" and "Amissa Anima".

This one is sublime - hypnotic, majestic and ever so intriguing. Probably the best black metal band I've heard from South America in recent times.
From Chile, this is Missa Mortvm's first album but the band perfectly captures the sound and vibe it wants to propagate. Dark, hypnotic and strangely alluring, the music grows on you like a second skin, feeds on your emotions, and ultimately takes control of your thoughts and actions. Music this evocative is hard to come by, while also remaining occult in essence. It's difficult to put in words but for reference's sake, it sounds like a cross between Dissection and Aosoth. The early majesty of Dissection's painstaking tunes meets the darkness and atmospheric quality of the latter band, while using a template that's manually created to best justify the unique mixture of sound and imagination. Songwriting has never been better, having the quality to entrap your attention for the longest time. Simultaneously released by four labels, this is an important release whose quality has been universally appreciated by all those who've chanced upon it. Get completely mesmerized.

As far as black metal goes, this band from Chile know their stuff. MISSA MORTVM’S début album ET LUX PERPETUA LUCEAT EIS... is a glowing and excellent representation of what is so fun about down to earth, straight forward black metal. This album was released in august with a limited edition CD print. It has been scoring fairly high with fans and reviews, now it is time to see what I thought of it.

Well I can safely say that I down right loved this album. I really enjoyed the frantic pace of this forty minute record as it chopped and changed between some epic heavy riffs, haunting melodies and some serious fierce drumming. This is a very well made album that has a fair amount of character and skill. There is a good number of quality songs on here that will amuse fans of black metal. The production side of it is not perfect but it is more then adequate for this kind of music. The final mix gives the band a nice rough edge to them that is quite popular in the black metal genre for pretty obvious reasons.

I can’t imagine many black metal fans arguing with songs like, AMISSA ANIMA, CANTOS PROFANOS and OH BENE SUBTRITUS. The striking classic IMMORTAL sound on IRE VIAM DE LUMINE strikes back to the band’s PURE HOLOCAUST days and is easily my favourite song on ET LUX PERPETUA LUCEAT EIS.... Despite the long track lengths, I think the songs are very well paced and only drag on by a few seconds on the longer numbers. Each song is over six minutes long and has a lot of chopping and changing between heavy and some melody. It keeps the songs from becoming dull and I think in that aspect, MISSA MORTVM have done a damn good job.

ET LUX PERPETUA LUCEAT EIS... is worthy of a mention to black metal fans as these kind of albums is what keeps the genre alive.

Over the past few months, I've been working on reviews for the Russian label Satanath. Before I started this website, I had never heard of them or any of the bands on their roster, which really is a shame. Many of these bands deserve a bigger exposure. People should be waiting for these albums in stead of the new Behemoth or Cradle Of Filth. Furthermore, people should start checking for extreme music across the oceans, as well as on the old continent. Good music is everywhere and should not be ignored.

Missa Mortvm is one of those bands who definitely deserve better. Hailing from Santiago, Chile, this band comes up with five lengthy songs, loaded with black metal and influenced by all kinds of extreme music. In a way it's even hard to make out if they are a traditional black metal band or one of the now popular post-black metal acts. In Missa Mortvm's music, there's both, along with some death and doom. Beyond all categorising, fact remains that this is a massive wall-of-sound, and quite a brilliant one too.

The album opens with 'Cantos Profanos', which starts out as a dark ambient track and quickly evolves into a blast beat loaded blackened vehicle of noise and screams. However, and that's Missa Mortvm's strongest aspect, they add plenty of variation, both in tempo and vocal range. The music is dynamic, intense and comes with a lot of energy, just the way I like it. 'Oh Bene Subtritus', even delves a bit into the whole black 'n' roll scene, which again is pretty damn awesome. And the other three songs? Well, they're just as massive and stunning as the previous ones.

Of all the Satanath releases I've reviewed so far, I think this is one of my favorites. It definitely is one of my favorite black metal albums this year. Well-varied, intense, bleak, heavy and energetic. I'm quite sure that this stuff will make up for some stunning live performances, so I can only hope that these guys will one day come over to Europe and show some of the bands here how it's done...

Ever since I discovered Pentagram from Chile I’ve had an ear to the Chilean metal scene. But lately I’ve been losing touch with it so when MISSA MORTUM turned up I took extra notice. This is black metal in the more epic school. You get long songs that are broken up in different parts to add atmosphere to it. I have a sweet tooth for this kind of metal, whatever genre it might be, that paints a picture where you have to fill in the blanks. If you have ADD you might not find this that very exciting but I like it when the music allows you to totally lose yourself in it. And that I have found with this album.

This week I have been impressed with this Chilean black metal band: the careful instrumentation and the great effort to give the guitar work identity and color, creativity and personality, are all traits that stand out. The rhythms sound great and all, but above the rhythms there is another element of melody, tremolo melody, that takes the songs further and higher. Moreover, there are other aspects of the guitar playing to notice, not just one type of melody. More will be discovered with additional listens.

The drummer puts on a veritable clinic on extreme metal drumming: when to do double bass for more effect; how to time the kicks to a particular melody or rhythm; how to vary the kicks to make them stand out when you are listening; how to do black metal blasting; when to blast, when not to; how to avoid monotony; how and when to utilize various parts of the drum set with imagination, so on and so forth.

When the above guitar and drums skills are joined with a feel for songwriting, that’s when things get really interesting. In this case, the effect is immediate and undeniable, if you are into black metal.

The vocals are not the shrieking type, which means that more people will like them, as the shrieking tends to irritate some people. The vocals are gruff, with some screams here and there. It is in this department, if anything, that I would have liked a bit more mishegas or unpredictability or more unleashing.

This band is a bit of a mystery because, apparently, this album is almost completely the work of a single person, except for the bass. Bandcamp says that Ots does everything, and AJ plays bass. In the live setting Ots does vocals and plays drums, while AJ plays bass and Marbas plays guitar. Anyway, this is not beginner black metal nor is it shlock black metal. Metal Archives says that this is the first album, so great things are on the horizon in the future if this not a one-off album.

Always cool to hear a black metal band that keeps it ‘black’ while adding atmosphere and melody. Chile’s Missa Mortvm practice occult black metal that has a distinctive Dissection flair, basking themselves in the olden, melodic days more akin to bands on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. All five tracks have some length to them (the shortest is 6.5 minutes), but never feel bloated due to the sense of melody that the band uses to keep the listener’s attention. There’s still plenty of blasting and tremolo riffs to be heard, but Missa Mortvm is in no rush to get to the finish line and every move seems deliberate. Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis... is an album that is best taken in through the melodies that take you on a journey between blasts. It’s a trip worth taking.

Missa Mortvm is a black metal band from Chile and ‘Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis…’ is their first effort. They play black metal with a traditional approach in the instrumental department. This means raw tremolo picked riffs, simple but effective drums at usually quite fast tempos and the occasional melodic outburst. Bands like Naglfar, Mayhem and Dissection have scratched their marks into Missa Mortvm but also Drudkh’s repetitious character can be noticed. The vocals are not the usual screams, but consist of hoarse and airy growls more akin to death metal (it reminded me of Hecate Enthroned’s album ‘Kings Of Chaos’) or are sometimes Gregorian chants. Missa Mortvm is the kind of band you can’t really fault much because what they do isn’t necessarily bad, but on the other hand the material isn’t very memorable either. It’s simply there.

Ah, yes ... This album is just as delightful as I suspected.
After just having ignored two other albums from the same label, it feels nice to be able to enjoy and endorse another one. Having listened to black metal for 20 years in a row, you can probably call me a little bit picky.
Missa Mortvm is a Chilean duo, and Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis... is actually the band's dйbut. The band focuses on moods, both the melancholic, the gloomy and the proud and stand tall atmospheres. Thankfully, that doesn't mean that the other factors of the music takes second place.
Of course you can't compare this album with the genre's classics, but even though the album can't be said to be mandatory, and each and every one of the 41.5 minutes doesn't feel as necessary, this is still a dark and dreary album that can provide peace of mind for dark souls in a godforsaken winters night. I like this!

Actually Missa Mortvm were formed almost five years ago, but Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Est isn’t but this Chilean band’s first official release. The album was initially released independently the digital way in very, very, very early 2015, and then pressed on CD in order to get released via the unholy trinity Satanath Records, Sphera Noctis Records and Darzamadicus Records (a co-operation that appeared before in other constellations). It consists of five pretty lengthy tracks (from six to ten minutes) and it comes with great artwork; but that isn’t but undersigned’s personal opinion, and since it has nothing to do with the sonic side of this review…

Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Est takes off with the ten-minute track Cantos Profanos, starting with a cold and creepy introduction. But when the duo (main instrumentalist & singer [(1)] OTS and bassist AJ) start ‘performing’, I am truly impressed. Missa Mortvm create an extremely oppressive, massive form of Black Metal, rather slow-paced and atmospheric, with inclusion of fast and epic outbursts, hints of dissonant Post-Black majesty, drenched in abyssal spheres, and full of surprises. The latter has to do with the many changes in structure, the great intermezzos, the fabulous execution of well-written pieces, and last but not least the cool production.

[(1) vocals: lyrics written and ‘sung’ in their mother tongue, Spanish]

That first song isn’t a coincidence, for all pieces are comparable in persuasion and conviction. The better part is based on somewhat traditional, slightly Nordic-styled structures, epic and victorious, fearless and straight-forward. But at the same time there are so many subtleties that give that little ‘extra’ to the whole experience. Every single composition is a creative combination of tradition and originality, of power and craftsmanship, of rhythm and melody. And as mentioned before, the variation in speed, approach and melody within each single song makes all of them necessary creations.

But it’s not the variation ‘within’ each track that is remarkable; the different pieces too do differ quite a lot from each other, though being based on a coherent identity. Ire Viam De Lumine, for example, is more thrashing and grotesque, while Cantos Profanos has an atmosphere even denser than any other track, while Oh Bene Subtritus, then again, is based on epic structures rather than ritual ones, and so on…

A surplus too is the vocal differentiation of OTS. Sometimes he screams like a servant from Hell, then again like an adept of the most suffocating Morbid Death trend. But within the whole mix, despite being on the foreground for sure, those vocal lines do not overpower the instrumentation. Every element has its own role to play, creating a fabulous symbiosis that, eventually, defines the majesty of Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Est. it’s every detail that makes this whole experience a great journey.

Riassumendo, “Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis...”

Chilean black metal band realised the album. That is a true black metal album in every possible way.

On the album it can be heard the influence of atmospheric and ambient music, and also in one of the songs it can be heard the ritual music, all of this is integrated phenomenally and awesome with the hole album.

The tehnical compliance is very good, acoustic is great and the production is solid. The vocal is very interesting, i'ts black death metal vocal in blackened death metal style,it’s awesome and specific in it’s own way.

This album will take to a place of darkness, coldness, death, ocultism, depression.

Missa Mortum is anonymos band that desirves a lot of attention of public and listeners. This band is a real dark and evil black metal band, with unholy evil music at it’s best.

Segítőnek egyedül AJ. maradt mellette, aki basszusgitáron segítette Ots törekvéseit a black metal színtéren. Kettőjük munkájának köszönhető tehát a tavalyi Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis… c. kiadvány, amit most mit sem sejtve, vidáman fütyörészve adott át a postás bácsi…

A lemezen hosszú dalszerkezetek foglalják magukba, amit a két zenész a dallamos, depresszív, okkultista metalról elképzel.

è un lavoro tanto semplice quanto dannatamente azzeccato: dopo qualche secondo di introduzione, parte a cento all'ora e finisce a cento all'ora, disseminando giusto qualche rallentamento qua e là, senza mai deviare e, soprattutto, senza mai sbagliare.

Bello. Bravi.

This is a great piece of darkness coming from Santiago, Chile. It’s nothing less than a debut full length album forged in misanthropic and destructive black metal, highly influenced by Nordic old sound.

Actually, the main mastermind is a guy called Ots, who composed all music, with good roots and knowledge in the most infernal side of the genre. This is a band that has live musicians from other great bands like Gates of Tyrant, Necrodaemon, Funeralis, etc. and recovers the essence of black metal music with excellent guitar riffs, holocaustic sections and good doses of chaos. Actually, everything is tied by excellent musical arrangements, but this dark entity reinterpreted the obscurity in music, and added sinister lines with high octane guitar riffs. Did I mentioned, all lyrics are sung in Spanish? This new born beast has black blood in the veins and for now, it is one of my favourites from South American black metal scene. It’s highly recommended for those who are looking for authentic gems in underground metal scene.

Milovníkům jinakostí jistě poslouží k dobru i skutečnost v souvislosti s používáním mateřského jazyka, čímž tento „rituál“ získává další plusový bod k dobru.

http://rumzine.com/missa-mortvm-et-lux-perpetua-luceat-eis%E2%80%8B-%E2%80%8B-%E2%80%8B-cd-2015-satanath-records

Out of nowhere MISSA MORTVM released a brilliant Black Metal album. The band from Chile was founded in 2011 and they have not released any outputs prior to "Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis...". The atmosphere of the five songs is raw and eerie (some may call it occult), reminding me of what Black Metal once was intended to be. A highlight are the versatile vocals, ranging from gnarling and growls over screams to chanting. The tempo is varied very often, the rhythm changes are happening very nonchalant. Difficult to describe, but you simply get the feeling that there must be a tempo change right now and then it happens. Once gain supreme songwriting wins the game. Regarding the sound the band tries to evoke the old school feeling without sounding like a feeble rehearsal room recording. This difficult task is solved to my utmost satisfaction. Many influences can be heard on the guitar work, but two countries are prevailing: Norway and Germany. Notorious bands like EMPEROR and SATYRICON but also dominant traces of LUNAR AURORA, DRAUTRAN and NAGELFAR.
