This is a review of a 4 way split album between Alabama's Wormreich, Texas's Diabolus Amator, and California's Gravespawn and Vesterian called "Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei" which was released as a joint effort between Symbol of Domination Productions and Black Plague Records and we will start off the review with Wormreich a band that plays a very raw and satanic form of black metal.
Their side of t he split starts out with a very fast and raw black metal sound that utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats as well as some high pitched screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also brings in a great amount of 90's second wave influences.
The riffs also use melodies at times and there is also a brief use of melodic Gregorian chants and deep growls and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts and distorted effects can also be heard at times along with some of the songs being long and epic in length and the music also brings in a small amount of atmospheric synths and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic fashion and there last track is all instrumental, the production sounds very raw and powerful while the lyrics cover Satanism and Left Hand Path themes.
In my opinion Wormreich are a very great sounding satanic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "To Render The Right Hand".
Next up is Diabolus Amator a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw and satanic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very heavy, dark and melodic sound along with some tortured black metal screams a few seconds later and when the music speeds up the vocals get more high pitched while the songs also start using more tremolo picking and blast beats while the solos and leads also bring in a decent amount of melody while also having an old school style to them and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, the production sounds very dark, raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism and Anti Christian themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Diabolus Amator and if you are a fan of raw and satanic black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Sanity And Her Daggers Return".
Next up is Gravespawn another band that plays a very raw and satanic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very raw and heavy sound along with some high pitched and grim black metal screams a few seconds later and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard while also bringing in a very dark atmosphere and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and when clean singing is utilized it gives the songs more of a ritualistic feeling and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody at times and they close their side of the split with a live track, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism, Anti Religion, Epic Fantasy battles and War themes.
In my opinion Gravespawn are a very great sounding satanic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Beneath The Shadowed Past".
Closing the album is Vesterian a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very satanic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast and raw black metal sound stat also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the solos and leads are done in a more melodic fashion and the vocals are high pitched screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and after awhile the riffs start using more melody along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful and spoken word parts can also be heard at times and most of their tracks are very long and epic in length, t he production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover black metal, satanism, darkness and anti religion themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vesterian and if you are a fan of satanic black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Crushing The Mandate Of God".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of satanic black metal.

Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei is a four way split from Black Plague Records and Symbol of Domination Prod. featuring four American black metal bands: Wormreich (Alabama); Diabolus Amator (Texas); Gravespawn (California); and Vesterian (California). Each band offers three tracks, with the entire album running a little over hour. While each band brings their own take on the blackened arts, the whole of Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei serves as a fine companion to your nightside rituals.
After being delivered a nearly insurmountable tragedy in April 2015, where two members were killed in a van crash during a North American tour, Wormreich has done the unthinkable and clamored back out of the shadows to unleash their chaotic, ritualistic black metal upon the world once again. The band starts off with the scorching “Feeding the Ouroboros”, which shows the band finally controlling their chaotic sound. Dissonant, think riffing and mesmerizing percussion charge forth as the the vocals writhe and slither. It’s a great start to the split, but unfortunately, like on their latest effort Wormcult Revelation, Wormreich gets lost within their desire to create chaotic material. There are some great ideas on their next two tracks, especially the main chorus riff during “To Render the Right Hand” and the intoxicating, swirling maelstrom that closes out “Terra Mortuorum (Call of Nvathron)”, but it honestly sounds like the band is still trying to find their direction. It’s impressive that the band even came back at all after being dealt such a devastating blow.
Diabolus Amator follows the chaotic swirling pulse of Wormreich’s tracks with three reverently archaic songs. Second wave worshiping black metal is the order of the day. From the mid-paced “Sanity and Her Daggers Return” with its sweeping yet swaggering riffing to the blasting, iron plated attack of “Ravenous Fog of Deceitful Winds”, its clear that this project was meant to worship the dark gods of black metal. While there is really nothing new to behold during Diabolus Amator’s tracks, it’s a fine display of second wave worship.
Gravespawn and Vesterian close out the album and are being mentioned together as they are seemingly cut from the same cloth of high speed, whipping trem riffing driven black metal. Interestingly enough, the band’s share a member, Verigo, who plays bass for Gravespawn and guitar/vocals for Vesterian. Gravespawn’s tracks are a little energetic, with a little rhythmic palm muting and trailing melodies in places, offering a sound that is fast paced and sweeping. The riffs play through with underlying melodies lurking throughout. Vesterian sound is similar, yet a little more on the chaotic, blasting side of things. The guitars do offer some solid leads, but in a more slasher, razor-bladed kind of way than Gravespawn. Their songs come across fast paced and bleak, instead of the darkly triumphant sound of Gravespawn.
Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei offers four American black metal bands in one setting. While there isn’t much continuity between the acts, their differing approaches to black metal kept things moving along. Wormreich has managed to crawl out of a personal hell to unleash a middling, yet rather chaotic set of tracks. Diabolus Amator faithfully follows the path set forth by the early-to-mid ’90s Scandinavian black metal scene. Vesterian brings a blasting, chaotic assault, full of high speed trem riffing and snarled aggression. Stealing the show, though, Gravespawn offers three songs of solid, melodic yet aggressive trem riffing and energetic song writing. Regardless, here’s direct proof that the American black metal scene is thriving all over the country.

Qual é coisa qual é ela que se parte em quatro mas continua a ser um? É o split, pois claro. Representativo do underdround da viragem do novo milénio é o chamado 4-way split onde com um CD apenas se tem quatro grupos, rentabilizando assim o investimento por parte de pequenas editoras para ter um produto atractivo. Claro que isso depende sempre dos nomes contidos no dito lançamento. neste caso temos aqui quatro nomes do underground norte-americano que apesar de tocarem todos black metal, fazem-no de formas bastante distintas.
Os primeiros que nos surgem são os Wormreich que apresentam-nos três temas que têm diferenças de produção tão grandes que quase nos parecem três bandas diferentes. O que todos têm em comum é a produção algo precária, mas aquele que nos agradou mais foi "Terra Mortuorum (Call of Nvathron)" que entra numa toada mais hipnótica e depressiva, embora a bateria pareça claramente programada, com um som horrível, enterrada na mistura. Seguem-se os Diabolus Amator que apresentam uma proposta mais interessante, uniforme em termos de produção e bastante dinâmica em termos de composição. Curtos e grossos, esta one-man-band parte logo para a violência, tal e qual como gostamos.
Gravespawn é uma das mais interessantes bandas aqui contidas, com grande parte dos seu som a conseguir ser primitivo mas ao mesmo tempo a ter o punch necessário para nos manter interessados. Com a tendência a serem mais épicos e melódicos e com a inclusão de um tema ao vivo - onde a produção é algo inferior mas mesmo assim aceitável - acabou por ser uma das bandas que mais nos agradou. A outra foi sem dúvida Vesterian, que são de longe a melhor proposta aqui diferente, inserindo o seu som na vertente escandinava da segunda vaga de black metal, cheio de riffs em tremolo picking certeiros.
No geral é um bom lançamento de black metal underground onde alguns desequilibrios de qualidade (sonora e não só) acabam por ser compensados pela qualidade geral dos temas aqui contidos. Para os amantes do género, está aqui um bom investimento, esta edição limitada a quinhentas cópias.

Bitterbösen Underground Black Metal aus Amiland gibt es auf dieser Vierer-Split-CD, die sich die Horden Wormreich, Diabolus Amator, Gravespawn und Vesterianmit jeweils drei Songs teilen. Den Anfang machen Wormreich, die sich 2009 gründeten, ein Album veröffentlichten und typischen traditionellen, nordisch geprägten Black Metal spielen, der richtig schön rotzig daherkommt. Der kehlige Kreischgesang klingt richtig fies und thront in aller Bosheit über der finsteren Musik, die zwar dezente Gitarrenmelodien, aber keinerlei Schönheit offenbaren. Etwas störend wirkt das programmierte Schlagzeug, das aber nicht allzu klinisch klingt und dem Ganzen sogar eine Art Kälte verleiht, die gut zur Musik passt, die finnischen Horden wie Horna oder Behexen nicht unähnlich ist. Diabolus Amator gibt es erst seit 2012, haben aber schon zwei Alben auf dem Buckel. Ihr Black Metal ist schnell, hasserfüllt und klingt noch um einiges finseterer als ihre Kollegen zuvor. Die Produktion ist dünn und das Schlageug wohl dieses Mal echt. Ich fühle mich an die Tschechen Maniac Butcher erinnert, die in puncto Gitarren und verkommenen Gesang sehr ähnlich vorgingen. Gravespawn gibt es seit 2004. Sie sind tiefster Underground, was man vor allem daran sieht, dass es von ihnen drei Demos gab, bevor es 2012 zum einzigen Album „Woe To The Conquered“ kam. Auch sie spielen schnellen Black Metal, aber mit sehr dünnen Gitarrenläufen und ebenso dünnen, seichten Keyboardteppichen im Hintergrund. Gitarrist Verigo spielt zeitgleich auch bei Vesterian, die hier als letzte Band am Start sind. Auch hier schneller und böser Black Metal der alten skandinavischen Schule, der keinen traditionellen Schwarzheimer enttäuschen wird. Wer darauf steht, ist mit dieser CD sehr gut bedient.

64 minutes of sinister black malevolence, mostly of high quality, provides great value for money.
My only previous acquaintance, is a meeting with Wormreich's EP Wormcult Revelations from 2014, which followed the band so far only full-length album, Edictvm DCLXVI from 2011. This split became the last recording that guitarist and keyboardist Nazgul Vathron took part in, before tragically dying in a car accident, only 30 years old, on tour last year.

After a quick warm-up with said EP, I must say that Wormreich disappoints a clue. The sound is far from as killer as on Wormcult Revelations. The sound also varies too much from song to song. The music itself ain't bad, though. Their black metal has elements of atmosphere and dissonance, and ingredients of dystopia and rituals. Besides, it's possibly a bit unreasonable to expect that the band will manage to maintain the same high standards on every release, and the EP was also exceptionally good. The band takes up about 19 minutes, and presents quite good black metal, which still would have come more into its own with a stronger production. Maybe its difficult to find a good sound-studio for blasphemous extreme metal in Alabama, in the heart of the despised Bible Belt.
Diabolus Amator was a one-man band, started in Virginia in 2012. Abyss has released two albums, moved to Texas, and employed two assistants. The band delivers nearly ten minutes of ice cold and knife-piercing black disgust. The production is cold, bleak and sharp in a way that suits the musical well. With moods and variety, the song material also works very well. Raw, heretical and tough as nails.
Gravespawn are located in Los Angeles and have ten years and one album behind them. The band is preparing a new album during the year, as well as a re-recording of an old demo with bonus material. The band's 15-minute contribution will unfortunately remain as the least interesting of this split in my ears. The band's fairly melodic approach to black tonality is far from polished. It is on the contrary rather woolly. Especially in the live recording, but also in the two studio songs. The music would have been quite alright, albeit still rather run of the mill, if the sound had been better.
Vesterian concludes with the longest sequence, at just over 20 minutes. The band also has the longest past, with over 20 years of experience, first under the moniker Centurion. Despite this, as well as a lengthy list of replaced members, the band has just one album to show for, and it wasn't released until 2013. They admittedly have almost a dozen miscellaneous releases, where demos constitute the majority. On this split they serve fuming and fiery black metal with frenzied instrumentation and jagged, mocking vocals. The vocals surpasses the other contributors, something even the rich and glowing sound does, unless you prefer the more necrotic and cutting variety.
By logically enough finishing with dessert, the listener is left with the best possible last impression of a split consisting of a lot of diabolic black metal that allows the listener to become acquainted with several bands at once. Although everything ain't on the same level, I'm generally very satisfied with Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei.

What's better than a black metal split? A four way black metal split. This album is over an hour of ugly, uncompramising black metal, with each band challenging your senses in their own special way. Wormreich is my personal favorite with their ominous and atmospheric domination. Their instrumental track, "Terra Mortuorum (Call of Nvathron)," is the best one of them all in my opinion. Diabolus Amator goes full second wave with possibly the most abrasive approach of the four. Terrifying vocals. Gravespawn prefers to challenge you by tossing you a sword and shield. Their tracks have a more viking metal vibe with their folky jaunt. Finally, Vesterian close things out with plenty more facepaint and death worship to go around. If you wanted a nice cross-section of what underground black metal is up to, this is a good place to go.

Основное отличие этой команды в многослойности материала, иногда просто кажется, что играет два трака. Эта глубина разворачивает сознание в сторону глубочайших пещер и подземелий, где гулко отдается каждый шаг, а диаволические мантры трепещут от нижних сквозняков и перепадов температур.
Второй трак так же атмосферен, но пожестче по верхним частотам. Здесь фиксируется истовая попытка создания ритуального послания демонам. «Разомкнутость» и открытость этого демарша создают энергетическую воронку, в которую будут втянуты все благонамеренные позывы. Инструменталисты работают на разрыв шаблона, создавая сырейший атмосферик, который вам удалось послушать за последний месяц. Вельзевуловский креатив группы линкует как к французскому черному легиону — особенно к его черно-эмбиентным проектам, так и раннему финскому эзотерическому блаку.
Третий трак — темный образчик хаоса в его зарождении, такой же многослойный, но еще более «воздушный напополам с пеплом» — депрессивный инструментал а ля Ксастур.
Diabolus Amator. Техасский one man проект сооружает люциферианское полотно из обглоданного коррозией металлолома, самых подозрительных гитарных партий, лирики, сквозящей антиклерикализмом и роковым отношением к темным божествам. «Интенсивность, угар и маниакальность» — вот что написано на штурмбаннере этого проекта.
Злой образчик немного более традиционного олдового блэк металла, труйного и оголтелого. Здесь совершенно не слышно, что всю контрмузыку сочиняет и исполняет ОДИН человек, а это значит — Мэтт Тэйлор собрал ненависти, мизантропии и дебоша за трех — четырех человек и все это бросил на запись. Кстати, он еще упражнялся в двух группах, что говорит о хорошем опыте зрелого исполнителя, собравшего личные идеи для соло-выступления. А таковых у него уже вышло два полноформата. Уж будьте уверены, такое никого не оставит безразличным. Мрак и беснование.
Gravespawn. Калифорнийские чертопоклонники из Лос Анджелеса доказывают, что черной подполье существует везде. Эти выпустили в 12-ом год цельный диск и немало формата помельче. Но не менее злобного и оскаленного. Дело в том, что несвятая троица исполняет допотопный треш-спид-блак, который невольно бросает нас во времена динозавров от блак металла, когда черное пламя горело мощно и ничуть не чадило. Вокалист знатно хрипит, исторгая воронье клекотание, поддерживаемое ритм-секцией, которая олицетворяет силы Тьмы, природные катаклизмы и сверхчеловеческую энергию, направляемую на дестракт. Это прекрасно проДЕМОНстрировано на их третьем траке — живом выступлении команды. Невозможно не поразиться этому вампирическому ритуалу.
Vesterian. Сатанисты из Северной Каролины, которые позднее перебрались в Калифорнию — самая старая и даже можно сказать, олдовая группа этого сплита. Вокалист команды как бы выведен над материалом, откуда вещает богохульно и остервенело. Надо отметить, что время от времени вокаллер переходит на зловещий речитатив, видимо поясняющий темные места. Инструменталисты нисколько не мешают ему, а точнее создают гранитный постамент на котором воздвигнуто это послание. По части гитар заметно, что исполнители за долгое время существования этой бригады обрели по настоящему злобарьское мастерство и ту самую поистине ядовитую техничность (в которой пришлось их обвинить вначале) с которой они валят свой звук. Вслушиваясь в этот АД, замечаешь добротные еретические соляки, пронзающие душу металлера до самого нутра.
Час ноль четыре минуты винландского демонического андерграунда, который представляет значительный интерес. 6-страничный мрачный буклет, исполненный в древнем стиле, весьма подробно информирует о четырех командах, их составах и трэках, есть что поразглядывать и почитать истинному ценителю true black metal.
One year ago, while on tour with KHAOTIKA, WORMREICH lost two members in a car accident. Like the founder Vulk once said, "This is not the end of WORMREICH" and they are kicking off this four-way split release. The first track 'Feeding The Ouroboros' is a well-done occult Black Metal assault, somewhat chaotic in the vein of South American Black Metal. The two following songs are sadly not on the same level, more than once it seems the band does not really know what direction to take, it sounds half-baked and undecided. The next three songs are by DIABOLUS AMATOR, which try to sound like a EMPEROR in 1992 ("Wrath Of The Tyrant" demo). And yes, I must admit the sound and songwriting is pretty close to this special blend of Black Metal. Since I am still listening to more than 20 year old Black Metal demos, I like the tracks by DIABOLUS AMATOR. Other people may come to different verdict. GRAVESPAWN are, like the all bands on this output, hailing from the United States and offer some kind of blueprint Black Metal. Right in the middle of being boring and awesome. Middle-rate at every aspect, some may call it mediocre. The last band is VESTERIAN, a band which is, like GRAVESPAWN, not trying to reinvent Black Metal. The band is active since 1994 (founded as CENTURION) and it seems like they have not changed their style during the last 20 years. Something like the MOTÖRHEAD or AC/DC of Black Metal. Quite enjoyable for me, especially having all these Black / Death Metal hybrid bands, all this BEHEMOTH clones in mind. To sum it up: this release gives every Black Metal fan the opportunity to make an acquaintance with four genuine Black Metal bands.

Nel più puro spirito raw ed underground, i quattro gruppi che si alternano in questa compilation mostrano il lato più distruttivo ed evil della musica satanica per antonomasia, proposte che potrebbero incuriosire i black metallers dai gusti old school (se mi fate passare il termine anche in questo genere), tradotto senza troppi fronzoli, tanta cattiveria e atmosfera da tregenda infernale.
I primi tre brani ci presentano il raw black metal del quartetto dell’Alabama Wormreich, nato nel 2009, con un full length all’attivo (Edictvm DCLXVI) ed un ep uscito un paio di anni fa (Wormcult Revelations).
Dimenticatevi l’Alabama dello storico brano dei Lynyrd Skynyrd, qui si fa black metal terremotante, fortemente influenzato dal satanismo tout court, richiamando le true black metal band dei primi anni novanta che facevano danni nel Nord Europa.
Peccato per la pessima produzione, magari anche voluta per aumentare l’aura underground e malefica che si aggira terribile tra i solchi delle songs, ma questi tre brani raggiungono con fatica la sufficienza e il gruppo viene rimandato alla prossima release.
Le cose non cambiano con la one man band Diabolus Amator, progetto del polistrumentista texano Matt Taylor, già in pista con due full length negli ultimi due anni (The Dawn of a New Flame e Despotic Conjuring of the Soulless); i tre brani presentati hanno dalla loro uno spirito brutal/grind inserito in un contesto black metal che fanno del sound un massacro senza soluzione di continuità, specialmente nella turbinosa e marcia Ravenous Fog of Winds.
La parte ritmica risulta un bombardamento brutale, le vocals si muovono tra lo scream e il growl di derivazione grindcore, il suono è poco valorizzato da una produzione sporca, ma non difetta certo di attitudine satanista ed anticristiana.
Arrivano i californiani Gravespawn e le cose migliorano di netto: ormai da considerarsi quasi un veteranoa della scena estrema dai rimandi black d’oltreoceano, il terzetto della città degli angeli propone un black metal oscuro ed epico, abbastanza vario da passare tra mid tempo epici e guerreschi a sfuriate di metallo nero come la pece.
Fondato nel 2004, il gruppo ha un full length all’attivo (Woe to the Conquered del 2012) ed una manciata di lavori minori.
Il sound porta con se quel tocco di pagan metal alla Bathory che dona un’aura mitologica ed epica alla musica del gruppo, con due brani che alzano la media di questo split più la versione live di A Red Moon Rises over Transylvania e bastano per promuovere la band incoronandola come la migliore dello split.
E siamo ai Vesterian altro storico gruppo americano, nato nel 1997 in North Carolina e trasferitosi successivamente in California, con un full length all’attivo licenziato un paio di anni fa (Anthems for the Coming War Age) e poi una serie infinita di demo e lavori minori a comporre la loro discografia.
Il loro black metal d’ordinanza, sufficientemente supportato da una produzione accettabile e foriero di crudeltà e blasfemie varie, è valorizzato da buone trame chitarristiche.
Devoto alla scena svedese si riempie di spunti melodici nei solos che squarciano le tempeste ritmiche di cui sono pregne Black Metal Murder e Unseen Hordes Behind the Deafening Storms, song all’altezza della situazione.
Uno split con alti e bassi, ad uso e consumo degli amanti del true black metal, questo Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei, ma se siete ingordi divoratori del genere dategli un ascolto, potrebbe riservarvi un paio di gradite sorprese.
Ein 4-Way-Split ist an sich schon ein ziemlich lohnenswertes Unterfangen, da einerseits natürlich quantitativ mehr geboten wird als bei einer vergleichbaren Single, man gleichzeitig aber auch die Chance bekommt, einen noch intensiveren Konkurrenzkampf mitzuerleben, der bei entsprechender Qualität natürlich auch die Stimmung anheizt. "Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei" gehört zweifelsohne zu den Produkten dieser Marge, die ein erweitertes Interesse für die beteiligten Bands auslösen, wenngleich nicht alle hier vertretenen Akteure auch ganzheitlich überzeugen.
Ausgerechnet die schwächste Combo darf den Auftakt machen und irritiert mit ziemlich hektischen Arrangements, seltsamen Breaks und künstlich angelegter Aggression. WORMREICH hat auf einigen vorangegangenen Alben schon ein paar Akzente setzen können, doch die drei Beiträge, die die Amis hier abliefern, sind nicht wirklich der Rede wert.
Wesentlich beeindruckender ist da schon der anschließende Output von DIABOLUS AMATOR. Das texanische Soloprojekt komponiert um Längen kompakter, fängt den Geist des ursprünglichen Black Metals sofort ein und inszeniert sich in den knappen zehn Minuten der hier gebotenen Existenz auf ziemlich hohem Niveau.
Ähnliches darf man auch von GRAVESPAWN behaupten; die Band ist inhaltlich sehr nahe an den nordischen Originalen, in erster Linie wegen der minimal melodiöseren Gangart ihrer drei Tracks. Mit der Live-Darbietung von 'A Red Moon Rises Over Transylvania' gibt es hier ein packendes Bonus-Schmankerl, welches das Interesse an der Truppe aus Kalifornien noch einmal deutlich steigert.
Der Höhepunkt wurde auf "Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei" aber für den Schluss aufbewahrt: VESTERIAN steuert drei mitreißende Hymnen im Stile von SATYRICON zur "Nemesis Divina"-Ära bei, praktiziert Nihilismus in seiner bösartigsten Ausdrucksform, hinterlässt aber auch bei den Hooklines den stärksten Eindruck. Wenn man bei einem solchen Release also von einem heimlichen Sieger sprechen möchte, dann übernimmt VESTERIAN hier die Favoritenrolle!
Doch Gewinner gibt es auf "Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei" mehrere; auch GRAVESPAWN und DIABOLUS AMATOR machen auf sich aufmerksam und betreiben absoluten Purismus. Würde WORMREICH dieses Level ebenfalls erreichen, dürfte man sogar von einem kombinierten Meisterwerk sprechen. Doch auch mit der leichten Startverzögerung ist dieser 4-Way-Split die Anschaffung absolut wert!
Quadrilogia da paura quella messa insieme dalla Symbol Of Domination! Una storia tutta americana, un manifesto dove si mostra cosa c’è sottoterra negli Stati Uniti d’America. Allora che si aprano pure le danze! Cominciamo con i Wormreich, sicuramente i più famosi e quotati del poker. Tre tracce tirate e velocissime, con una voce così maligna che ti chiedi se nel terribile incidente d’auto di anni fa il cantante non sia morto e poi resuscitato per portarsi dietro qualcosa dell’aldilà. Il minutaggio lungo è indice di una struttura canzone media piuttosto complessa, mai banale, affiancata però ad una registrazione morbosamente casalinga. Difficilmente eguagliabili… Seguono a ruota i Diabolus Amator, forti di due album frutto delle menti di una coppia di musicisti polistrumentisti. Il loro Black è più negli schemi ma altamente maligno, complice un’ugola fuori dal comune, che sembra sussurrare e gridare allo stesso tempo. Non capisco se sia un effetto del missaggio o meno, ma il risultato finale è poderoso, notevole. La loro musica è molto marziale, quasi mistica e rituale, decisamente sopra la media. La terza terna è data in mano ai Gravespawn, ufficialmente la più anziana tra le formazioni proposte, almeno per quanto riguarda le pubblicazioni ufficiali. Il loro è un Black di mestiere, quasi una generazione prima di quello attuale, puro e semplice come solo il colore nero sa essere. Tre canzoni dirette e dal minutaggio medio, anzi lungo per il genere proposto. Un retrogusto vagamente Power ed epico accompagna le tracce proposte… decisamente e rigorosamente Old School… Chiudono il sipario i Vesterian, che dopo una marea di demo dal ‘97 al 2013 si son decisi a pubblicare un album completo e ora sembrano averci preso gusto. Che dire, i più oltranzisti e veloci del lotto, seppur i più sporchi nel suono (ma le due cose nel Black si sa, viaggiano assieme…). Tre inni furoreggianti a tutto ciò che è negativo e pessimista, incazzato e rabbioso. Una voce piena di risentimento vomita fuori blasfemità varie per il sollazzo dei propri accoliti. Insomma, se esiste una scena Black americana, ne abbiamo un opuscolo in mano. A voi la scelta.

Nuevamente el sello SOD nos hace llegar un split con el cual dar a conocer a bandas de su catálogo.
Arrancan los estadounidenses Wormreich, con todo su black metal crudo, duro y a las chapas. Trve como el infierno mismo, caótico por donde se lo mire, es una andanada de poder.
Sigue Diabolus Amator, un dúo también de USA donde su black metal está impregnado de un sabor más old school y escandinavo. Muy bueno.
La tercera banda es Gravespawn, más o menos en la misma línea que las bandas anteriores, tal vez un poco más elaborado en su concepción.
Por último, Vesterian, los más veteranos de los cuatro grupos, en una línea muy Behemoth por cierto pero muy competentes.
Resumiendo, una buena muestra de black metal underground, en este caso de estados Unidos. Chequéenlo.

Okay! A four way split. As always with split records you hope that the bands will be different but not too different. I want to have that cohesiveness that an all black metal line-up gives you for example. I don’t want four different styles on one album. WORMREICH are very much black metal in the second wave of Norwegian black metal. Like early Emperor/Dimmu Borgir. DIABOLUS AMATATOR are very much Mayhem “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” black metal. Perhaps with a more aggressive approach. GRAVESPAWN is more in the Gorgoroth vein. VESTERIAN has more of an old Dark Funeral feel. Four black metal band that are different enough to stand on its own feet makes this an interesting split.

Quattro band si alternano nello split intitolato "Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei". Tutte americane, ma che di americano hanno poco. Tre brani a testa, per un totale di dodici, sempre all'insegna del black metal feroce e caotico che sa di Nord Europa. Una piccola finestra per convincerci del valore dei singoli gruppi coinvolti.
Reduci dalla perdita di un membro del gruppo e di un amico (a cui le tracce sono dedicate), i Wormreich partono in quarta. "Feeding The Ouroboros" potrà sembrare caotico — e lo è — ma a un ascolto attento risaltano una struttura cangiante e un numero non esiguo di spunti; lo stesso discorso vale per la successiva "To Render The Right Hand", anche se cede un attimo l'aggressività per farsi più struggente. La conclusiva "Terra Mortuorum (The Call Of Nvathron)" invece è dedicata a N. Vathron, il musicista deceduto, una scura marcia funebre strumentale.
Riguardo i Diabolus Amator c'è veramente poco da dire. Se avete già ascoltato black metal in vita vostra, i tre brani della band vi saranno familiari. Purtroppo cercare qualcosa di interessante nelle varie "Pregnant Virgin Whore" o "Sanity And Her Daggers Return" è impossibile. Il risultato è scolastico, e si confonde con la marea di uscite che un appassionato sente tutti i giorni. Non un passaggio si distingue, mentre la proposta così feroce sulla carta finisce per suonare docile, senza lasciare nulla.
I Gravespawn, riuniti da poco, spezzano un po' il leitmotiv del caos, dandoci un black metal più focalizzato sulle sensazioni epiche e le atmosfere combattive. Le sonorità rimangono fredde e taglienti, tuttavia i brani hanno melodie più sviluppate dei colleghi e non di rado sono accompagnati da tastiere. Piccolo particolare: "A Red Moon Rises Over Transylvania" è l'unico registrato dal vivo. Interessanti, ma queste tracce sono soltanto un antipasto per "Inexorable Grimness", EP uscito poco dopo questo split e che tratteremo presto su queste pagine.
Chiudiamo con le note dei Vesterian, già conosciuti ai tempi di "Anthems For The Coming War Age". I brani vengono da vecchie demo uscite a cavallo tra gli anni '90 e 2000, ma ri-registrati per l'occasione. Produzione e livello tecnico migliore però non coprono eventuali difetti dovuti alla minore maturità dell'epoca; le stesse "Black Metal Murder" e "Crushing The Mandate Of God" possiedono una melodia portante simile e si fatica a distinguerle. I Vesterian sono una band di genere e la percezione del loro valore dipende solo da quanto si è devoti al black metal. Detto ciò, possono suonare anche piacevoli.
In definitiva, i partecipanti a "Infirmos Vocat Deus Fidei" non vogliono sconvolgere le carte in tavola, puntano solo a chi ricerca queste sonorità, e non reclamano altro. Se con quest'ultima frase vi sentite chiamati in causa, questo split per voi non sarà tempo sprecato, e a voi, solo a voi, si consiglia di farsi un'idea, ascoltando tutto il lavoro sulla pagina Bandcamp della Symbol Of Domination.
